Summary / Reaction

“The 400-Pound CEO” by George Saunders tells the journey of an ordinary overweight male. He slaves away at a dead end job openly ridiculed by his colleagues for his size, his love life is non-existent, and he goes through life hoping only for the end. Jeffery was not always four hundred pounds, he slowly let himself go. The lower his confidence got, the higher the number on his scale read. His life is basically a facade. His job is to fool housewives into thinking their pests are going to a “better place” when in actuality they get savagely murdered. He also has to go through his days acting like he is cool with having no other half, the opposite sex see him as nonexistent. So he turns to food to comfort him. Jeffery’s life seems to take an upward turn when Freeda accepts his painfully awkward proposal to a date. He wipes out his menial savings to impress this woman who seems to care nothing about him and hours before was repulsed by him. The next day he comes into work only to find out it was a prank that Freeda accepted in order to pay her phone bill.

Jeffery grows increasingly frustrated by his state of life each day and he snaps. His business had been under personal investigation by a self appointed animal rescue crusader. As much as she annoys him Jeffery flies off the handle when he sees his jerk boss, Tim, threaten her. Because of his size he easily kills him and allows the girl to escape. With Tim out of the way, he hands the business over to himself and runs the company how he sees fit. They will finally do what they claim with the animals and employees will be treated with the utmost respect. Finally, Freeda is all over him when she smells power. His reign is short-lived and Jeffrey is promptly arrested.

Even though I enjoyed the “400-Pound CEO” the most out of Saunder’s collection, I cannot say I…...

Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...THE BENEFITS OF TWISTED PAIR CABLE Recommended Changes and Benefits As I am a consultant for NCF, the Networking Consultant Firm and my first assignment are at Ocper, Inc. We will first study to their current networking and current technology that they are using. First, they have use coax cable to connect 20 windows peer to peer computers. The president had told me that he expect his company to be expand and double in size, in the next two years. What NCF will recommend is to take a closer look at benefit of twisted pair cable. Since the business now needs to connect 20 computers, I would explain how twisted pair cable will help them. Cable is the medium through which information usually moves from one network device to another. There are several types of cable which are commonly used with LANs. In some cases, a network will utilize only one type of cable, other networks will use a variety of cable types. The type of cable chosen for a network is related to the network's topology, protocol, and size. They need to be more understand their current situation so; it could help them to get the highest performance from it. The twisted pair cable come with in two varieties; shielded and unshielded twisted pair. For this case, I would choose the unshielded twisted pair to be the solution because this cable is the least expensive cable, there are pro and cons, it may be susceptible to radio and electrical frequency interference (it should not be too close to electric motors,......

The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...p=683070&seqNum=2) I would like to suggest using Twisted Pair Cables based on two major advantages that would benefit the company in the long run. First would be Cost, Twisted Pair Cables are way less expensive than that of the coaxial cable. In 2011, a solid UTP category 5 cable costs $87.99 per 1000 feet, which is about 9 cents per foot versus one foot of RG 58 coaxial cable costs 94 cents which is more than 10 times the cost of the twisted pair cable. The number two advantage is data transfer speed. A Category 5e twisted pair cable runs at a speed of up to 1GB per second, while a coaxial cable speed ranges from 10MB up to 350MB per second which is like comparing a row boat to a speed boat. With faster data transfer speeds, your employees will be able to process more information in a smaller time period. Fiber Optics is also an option that I think your company should look into. It has extremely high bandwidth that no coaxial nor twisted pair cable can give, resistance to electromagnetic interference that lowers the possibility of errors. It also has its disadvantages that you need to think carefully about if you would consider using fiber optics. First one would be the cost of installation, which alone speaks for itself. More often than not with the latest technology you need special equipment to test it therefore upping the cost some more. In essence, I still stand with my suggestion that you strongly consider using Twisted Pair Cables because of the obvious......

Twisted Pair

...The Benefits of Twisted Pair The Benefits of Twisted Pair The current topology appears to be a bus topology. Everything is connected via coaxial cable and is referred to as passive, meaning that each computer on the network “listens” for data to pass by with its name. While this type of topology will suffice for small networks, it is not ideal for the current network at Ocper, inc. Another downside of the current topology is lag. While the network is small you may not notice the lag, or just assume the network is supposed to run this slow. Using coaxial cable as a network data path limits the amount of bandwidth available as well as the ability for two-way data flow. My recommendation would be to convert to twisted pair cabling. The twisted pair cable will allow you a larger bandwidth which in turn allows more computers to send more data across the network. Twisted pair will also allow two-way data flow, allowing for data to pass back and forth more effectively by “sharing” the bandwidth. For these reasons, twisted pair will allow you to transfer vital information back and forth across the network much more quickly, making the customer wait less. I would also recommend changing the topology to a star-wired Bus. A star-wired bus will allow you to isolate segments of your network and span it over greater distances. Isolating a segment of the network will allow you to place different security......

Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...Running head: The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable 1 The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable Alexander Williams Dr. Johnson CIS175 July 25, 2013 The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable 2 Abstract I have been recently hired by a Network Consulting Firm (NCF) and my fist task as a consultant will be to work with Ocper, Inc. Upon arrival at Ocper, I learn from the president that there is no one dedicated to information technology or networking on the staff and there are 20 Windows peer-to-peer client computers connected via coax cable. The president also addresses her concerns for growth. She feels that the company will double in size over the next two years, but does not want a drastic overhaul. For this assignment I will hit 4 main topics. First I will describe what changes I would suggest for the current network type and explain why I am doing it. Second, I will describe why I would recommend upgrading to twisted pair cable from coax cable for all current and new client computers on the network. Third, I will discuss the possibility of implementing fiber optic cable in to the network. Finally, I will display research costs and analysis to facilitate an upgrade on the network. As above mentioned, the current network is 20 Windows peer-to-peer client computers utilizing the bus topology. Also important to note is the fact this company lacks an employee with an IT background, therefore they have been inclined to set up a simple peer-to-peer network due to its...

Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable Introduction to Networking October 29, 2013 Ocper Inc. is a small company that has no one dedicated to information technology or networking on the staff, and there are 20 Windows peer-to-peer client computers all connected via coax cabling. The president has indicated that the company plans to double in size over the next two years, but she is weary of drastically changing the computing environment. This is my first assignment, but I feel that I have a very good plan to help give them a faster, more secure, and efficient network. The first change that I would recommend would be to move away from a peer-to-peer network to a client/server network. I would explain that there are many advantages to switching to a client/server network such as (Dean, 2009): * User logon accounts and passwords for anyone on a server-based network can be assigned in one place. * Access to multiple shared resources (such as data files or printers) can be centrally granted to a single user or groups of users. * Problems on the network can be monitored, diagnosed, and often fixed from one location. * Servers are optimized to handle heavy processing loads and dedicated to handling requests from clients, enabling faster response time. * Because of their efficient processing and larger disk storage, servers can connect more than a handful of computers on a network. The advantages of a client/server far outweigh any possible disadvantages.......

Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable Gregory M. Dowell CIS 175 Professor Blanson November 3, 2013 Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable Ocper, Inc. is a company that currently has twenty employees connected in a peer-to-peer network. Over the next two years they are looking to double in size and are looking for a solution to their computer networking needs but are weary of any drastic changes. Currently all of their computers are connected using coaxial cable. Through this paper I will show the benefits of changing their network configuration, as well as replacing the coaxial cable with twisted pair or possibly fiber optic cable. My fist suggestion is to reconfigure their network from peer-to-peer to a client/server network in a star configuration. By doing so, there will be a central computer used as a server that would facilitate communications and resource sharing between the other computers on the network. With this server clients will be able to share data, data storage space, and devices such as printers. The users will still be able run applications and save data to their own computer, but will also have the option to save it to the server (Dean, 2009). Saving the data to the server will enable better security of the data since backups to the system can be scheduled every night. In addition, each client can be authorized only the access to the applications they need. In the peer-to-peer configuration each computer can communicate with each other......

...The initial cost of equipment can also be a concern. The cost of the hub/switch will run about $750 to $1800 for each hub/switch, if you add a backup that price will be $1500 to $3600. Depending on the work station NIC cards you may need to upgrade to new cards that accept the Cat 5e cable. I would recommend installing Cat 5e or Cat 6 (speeds up to 1000 Mbps, 1 gigabit per second Gbps) twisted pair cables rather than using the coaxial cable. The twisted-pair cable is designed for telephone communications and modern Ethernet networks. The pairs of wires are twisted to give protection against crosstalk; crosstalk is interference of noise generated by adjacent pairs. Just like any electrical wire a magnetic field is produced when current flows through it. By twisting the wires together in pairs the magnetic fields will be opposite of each other and while null or cancel out. Two basic types of twisted-pair cable exist: unshielded twisted pair (UTP) and shielded twisted pair (STP). The UTP cable contains pairs of copper wires that are covered with an insulating material and then are twisted around each other to help with the cancellation of crosstalk. UTP cable has a few advantages, one of which is the size. Due to its small size in can be run easily through duct work or in the ceiling and allows you to install more cables in wiring ducts. UTP is compatible with most network systems and is easy to install and the cost be foot is less than other cable types. The other cable...

...With a client/server network you will experience quite a few advantages over your current peer-to-peer network which include having user logon account and passwords in one centralized location, access to multiple shared resources, problems on the network can be monitored, diagnosed, and fixed from one location and faster response time because servers are optimized to handle heavy processing loads (Dean, Network+ Guide to Networking, 2009). I would suggest that we upgrade from the current coax cable, which has a data speed ranging from 10 MB per second up to 350 MB per second, to a twisted pair cable that has a data speed of up to 1 GB per second (Gates, 2011). Twisted pair cable consists of a pair of insulated wires that are twisted together. The twisting of the cables helps to reduce noise pickup from outside sources. Since you plan to expand your company over the next two years, using the twisted pair cable will make it much easier to add the additional workspaces. If we set up the network to accommodate the extra workstations you anticipate, when the time comes you will just need to plug the cables into the designated switches and be up and running in minutes...

Twisted Fairytale

...the man heard an unexpected sound came out of nowhere. A rose coloured twinkling light that reminded the man of fog from the big city. Then fog changed direction. It was coming towards the two creatures. At that moment, a deafening yelp made the man twitch, the man was so anxious he started sprinting to see were it was coming from. As the man felt like he had triumph the greatest achievement accomplished ever. He’s face turned pale the second he looked up. At first, the fog looked beautiful like the man had never seen, but he now knew that it was almost more blackhearted then Adolf Hitler. The Fog had put the two together, a pair of horns on a Griffins head with the neck and body of a unicorn with Griffins majestic wings and lion-like legs. The man was almost frightened to death yet flabbergasted at what he had seen. The glorious roar of the Griffin and the united beast bolted east, far away from the scene. It was then that the man decided to start running after the flying horse, It felt like he was going to the Moon and back, without the fun of riding a spaceship. It took the man 10 days searching, then he heard in the distance, another roar, then a scream of a girl. That girl wasn’t just any girl, it was the man’s daughter, Sophia. The man charged for the direction the scream was coming, unaware that the beast was expecting him. As the man positioned at the front of the Enchanted forest, he made out the words “Daddy, where are you”, so the man took a step into the......

Twisted Love

...Savanna Hammock 12/8/14 Geneva High School Cheri Cox Twisted Love H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once said, “Sometimes the heart sees what is invisible to the eye.” There were many big towns in Alabama, but also many small towns. Geneva, Alabama was one of those small towns that involved lots of excitement. There were many positive things about this town but also many negatives. One negative being, everybody knew your problems before you did. Geneva was very unique, and always promising a new adventure every day. The most excitement came from relationship problems, especially those of Shay Daughtry. Shay was a 16 year old girl who was boy crazy and had the kindest heart. She was one of the prettiest girls to roam Geneva High School which was why she was such a flirt. She was also very popular among all the student body, teachers, and community. Not only was she a star in the classroom, but a star in sports also. If Shay wasn’t your ideal girl, then I don’t know what was. One summer Shay met a boy named Jonathan and instantly fell head over heels for him. He was everything she ever wanted, or she thought so anyways. Shay was one of those people who had a lot of guy friends, because she said girls were too much drama. Her best friend was a boy named Nate Walls, who was going through a bad breakup. Shay was so head over heels for Jonathan, she pushed Nate away. Nate needed the love and support from his best friend, so he called her one day and they agreed to meet for lunch. Nate......

Leg Day

...it is important that you wear the proper attire. Each individual will have their own preference, but one needs to wear lose-fitting clothes that allow him or her to expand and not feel confined. Also, when working out with weights, always wear flat bottom shoes such as New Balance or Converses; this will help you maintain your balance. When you go to the gym, make sure to bring a water bottle; that way, you can hydrate in between exercise changes. To have a productive leg workout you can do squats, deadlifts, elevated-weighted lunges, and the leg press. The first thing you should do when you go to the gym is stretch. There are different ways to do this. One is to bend down and stretch your back and hamstrings. You can then spread your legs to the sides, bend one of your knees, reach to the side without the bent knee, and count to 10. Then, you will switch legs to stretch the other side. Next, balance on one foot and fold the other leg back to stretch out your quadriceps and switch to do the same with the other leg. After this, you can begin your warm up. For a warm up, you can get on the treadmill and press start. It will start off very slow, but you can always adjust your speed later. It is recommended that you jog at least a speed of 3.5 for 5 minutes. You can then choose to jog or run on a speed of at least four for at least thirty minutes, or you can walk for one minute and then sprint for 30 seconds, repeating this cycle for a minimum of five times. Now, you are ready......

The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable

...The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable July 28, 2012 The Benefits of Twisted Pair Cable The current network model that is being used by your company today is the peer to peer model. This model is an ideal selection for a company or organization when there are very few computers. Since your organization currently has 20 Windows peer to peer client computers I would like for you to consider moving towards the client server network modelOnce a peer-to-peer network grows beyond 10 computers, it will likely begin to suffer from performance and from administrative problems (Posey, 2000) In the client server network model network hosts have specific roles which are assigned to them. There are certain host that are assigned as servers, which will provide network resources to the workstations. Unlike the current peer to peer model that is supported in your organization today in which everyone workstation has the same or similar operating systems. There are several benefits for your organization to consider to transitioning to client server network model. One of the major benefits of the client server network model is scalability. Since we know the potential for this organization to double in size over the next two years scalability is a key factor. It’s very easy to expand the size of your network with client server model because it will be easy to just add on workstation. Everything is centralized to the server. This server will be the......

Benefits of Twisted Pair

...recommendations: Your company currently has 20 workstations connected with coaxial cabling. The company wants to expand and double its size in the next 20 years. We recommend that you upgrade your cabling at the minimum to a twisted pair CAT5 or CAT6, preferably CAT6. Coaxial cable for network connections is obsolete and does not provide the performance or scalability to support a growing company. All though twisted pair cabling is a suitable choice for your company, we would also like for you to consider the possibility of using Fiber Optic cabling. Fiber Optic cabling would be our preferred choice for your company. The benefits of twisted pair cabling are that they reduce cross talk on multi pair cables. Twisted pair cables transfer balanced differential signals more efficiently than coaxial cable. Twisted pair cabling is easy to install, improves signal-to-noise ratio, and improves ground bounce that balance signal transmissions, twisted pair of the unshielded variety on an average have communication speeds of 10000 mbps for CAT6. Fiber Optic cabling is the best upgrade choice but it is more costly than twisted pair. However the benefits of upgrading to Fiber Optics far exceed the cost. For short cable runs the difference between twisted pair and fiber optics will go unnoticed. Considering the growth of your company, longer cable runs are to be expected. Fiber Optic cabling is better at maintaining signal strength and integrity over a long run. Fiber......
