Using Computers in Proper Way

...As computers are being used more and more in education, there will be soon no role for teachers in the classroom. There is no doubt that education and the learning process has changed since the introduction of computers: The search for information has become easier and amusing, and connectivity has expedited the data availability. Though experts systems have made computers more intelligent, they have not yet become a substitute of the human interaction in the learning process. In my opinion what can be expected is a change of the teachers’ role, but not their disappearance from the classroom. Nobody can argue that the acquisition of knowledge is more fun and easier with computers. The mere activity of touching and exploring this device constitutes an enjoyable task for a child. This, accompanied by the relaxing attitude and software interactivity, usually contributes to a better grasping of new knowledge. At a higher educational level the availability of digital books, simulators and other academic materials provide the student with an ever accessible source of information, that otherwise would not be at hand. But, besides the increasing complexity and behavior of intelligent software, which is usually embedded in the academic digital material, the need for human interaction in the learning process will always be present, at least in the foreseeable future. There is the necessity for a human being to be able to determine what the specifics needs of each individual......

Disadvantages of Using Technology in Education

...The Disadvantages of Technology in Classroom Education Technology has also affected humans in classroom education. Since technology has been introduced as a medium for teaching back in 1900s, it has gradually replaced the human teachers and now students mostly rely on computers, television and other electronic mediums. Although these technology brings certain benefits in the classroom, it causes some students to be distracted and unmotivated to learn at school because they believe that learning by themselves using the computer is a much better and faster way. According to Vota (2009), “Since technology itself requires proper motivation for its benefits to accrue, any school that can’t direct student motivation capably will fail to do so with technology, as well (or worse, allow technology to distract students)”. This clearly shows that students are still young and curious but they need an ongoing motivation, guidance and support to excel in education. Apart from that, techonology also lessens/mininmises the learning time. Klaus (2010) states that technical troubles is often consume most of valuable teaching time. This happens when the student or teacher is not familiar with using the machine and they do not have adequate technical know-how to fix the machine. If there is any problem with the technology, the school need to call for technician to fix the problem and it will delay the student from the actual lesson plan that the teacher has prepared for them. Thus, this would...

Advantages and Disadvantages of Computers

...office or school has a computer or even a few of these devices. Anyway, these modern technologies without which lots of people cannot imagine their lives have some advantages as well as disadvantages. To begin with, I would like to comment on the advantages. So firstly, computer gives you the opportunity to access a lot of information about everything not to mention the fact that you can store large amounts of information on the computer in a database. One computer disk can hold the same amount of information as several books. And don’t forget about the fact that computers can do some jobs very quickly. For example, writing some report with charts and diagrams on a computer will take you less time than writing it manually. Computers not only allow doing those jobs faster, but also allow doing them from a distance for example, from home and sending somewhere you need by e-mail. Finally, computer is useful for communication. To my mind there is plenty of communication software which helps you to socialise with your friends, mates as well as with foreigners from all over the world not even leaving your room. On the other hand as any other appliance it has its own minuses. Let’s face the problem that computer becomes old – fashioned very fast after buying it and needs to be replaced. The point is that replacing a computer is quite expensive. The newer the computer is the more you have to pay for it. Not to mention, the costs you have to pay for fixing the computer if it......

Examine the Advantages and Disadvantages of Using Both Positivist and Interpretivist Methods of Research (20)

...Examine the advantages and disadvantages of using both positivist and interpretivist methods of research (20) Positivism is a theoretical point of view which concentrates on social facts, scientific methods and quantitative data. The research methods that are commonly used by positivists are questionnaires, structured interviews, structured non-participant observation and official statistics. These methods are used as they are objective and reliable. One sociological study that used positivist methods was Durkheim’s Suicide Study. Durkheim used official statistics to study suicide and demonstrate society as a science with its own distinct subject matter. One advantage of using positivist methods of research is that the data is that the data is easy to analyse. Using quantitative data means that there is less information which makes it easier to categorise and therefore makes it easy to create tables and graphs allowing easy analysis and making trends more identifiable. Also with the data being easy to analyse and categorise it also makes it easy for comparisons to make against existing research and data. A second advantage of using positivist methods of research is that the data is high in reliability. Positivists often use questionnaires and structured interviews to test reliability as the questions are controlled and therefore can be repeated. Research is considered reliable if other researchers can find similar results asking the same questions and showing consistency...

...plan in place to keep technology updated and useful. Because of connection problems, downloading issues, illegal software and other difficulties, teachers can sometimes stop using it simply because the lack of time. To lose the 10 minutes period just because of connectivity issues is not fair, and it's one of the main reasons for the failure of technology integration in schools To sum up, technology can be powerful learning and educating tool, but schools must first ask themselves if they have the resources, not only the material but also human resources, to afford and maintain such expensive equipment .
