After working through the theoretical foundations Powerpoint (click here), select only one of the theories and discuss its usefulness in the context of managing organizations. Use online peer-reviewed journal research (case study research is best) to inform your writing, and to advance the theoretical discussion beyond what you encountered in the PowerPoint. You may select a theory that you will eventually use elsewhere in the course (such as in the theoretical paper assignment next week—hint, hint).
Your initial post should contain 3 scholarly citations and 3 references minimum (your textbook may NOT serve as a source for this forum).
After reviewing this week’s required PowerPoint presentation, the theory I chose to further discuss is complexity theory. According to the presentation, complexity theory is relevant to all traditional fields, focuses on specific questions about parts, wholes and relationships, cuts across all disciplines of science and, is the study of complex systems and understanding their indirect effects (Introduction to the Theoretical and Conceptual Foundations of Organizational Management, n.d., p. 19). Another more specific definition of complexity theory is that it is the study of “how order, structure, pattern, and novelty arise from extremely complicated, apparently chaotic systems and conversely, how complex behavior and structure emerges from simple underlying rules” (Cooke-Davies et al., 2007, p. 52).
Complexity theory and, in turn, complexity thinking is ideally suited in for managing organizations because ‘“complexity management is coupled to ethics or values – the need to encourage a diversity and autonomous action implies a respect for other people (and their ideas) and a high level of trust’ and a common vision” (as cited in Swanson & Zhang, 2011, p. 40).
The third article I chose to review for this week’s assignment…...

Public University Analysis

...Assignment 2: Public University Analysis Professor JoEtta Malone Course Title ACC410006VA016-1126-001 September 3, 2012 One benefit that many employees either have or wish they had is contribution into a pension or retirement plan. From an accounting view point, there are many guidelines that need to be followed for companies or universities with these plans. The GASB has proposed changes recently that will affect the pension liability on the financial statements of universities and other non-profits. I have looked at the financial statements of the Ohio State University. The Ohio State University has two basic retirement plans available to their employees. The most popular plan is “covered by the Public Employees System of Ohio (OPERS)”. Their second plan is one in which the employee can “participate in” an “Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP)”. The major difference between the two is the OPERS is a defined benefit plan which includes contributions made by the employee, contribution matches made by the university and also other fringe benefits offered to their members. The ARP is a defined contribution plan that only includes contributions made by the employee and contribution matches made by the university. GASB has provided guidelines for Statement No. 67 and Statement No. 68 which make universities and non-profits account for future......

American Gonverment - Public Policy

...03.02 Public Policy: Assessment Policy Analysis of: Education (Higher Education for All Students) “If we want America to lead in the 21st century, nothing is more important than giving everyone the best education possible — from the day they start preschool to the day they start their career”, said President Barack Obama. To prepare people for jobs of the future and help restore middle-class security we have to out-educate the world and that starts with a strong and healthy school system. There is no code or bill that has taken place yet to implement higher education, but President Barack Obama and his team have created several initiatives to help all students receive an education beyond high school. Helping middle class families afford college, trying to keep the cost down, strengthening Community Colleges, and Improving Transparency and Accountability are all the ways President Barack Obama, and his team plan to use to accomplish his goal in higher education. After interviewing a principal of a local elementary school she stated that, “higher education after high school should be a #1 priority in high school students.” She also felt that the students should be encouraged by their teachers, counselors, and school representatives to achieve their maximum education. More programs are needed to build a connection for students in high school and with local colleges/vocational schools that will encourage them to seek higher education. President Obama and his...

Public vs Private Universities

...English IV November 18 2013 Public vs. Private All high school seniors nationwide and even some juniors have heightened responsibility and many more difficult decisions to make. One of the main decisions is deciding on a plan for schooling after finally throwing their caps in the blue sky on graduation night. When considering and picking the most comfortable university for the student, there are many different factors to think long and hard about: seeing if the school offers the major of their choice or something that is of interest to them, deciding on a comfortably located university that fits each student's living situation perfectly, signing up and acquiring financial aid, and deciding on a public or private university. One of the factors mentioned should not be a factor at all. Students should not have to worry about struggling to afford a supposedly better education at a private instution versus a public institution. The major difference between private and public institutions is how they are funded and how they use their funds. (Public University vs. Private College) Public insitutions were mostly founded by state governments as early as the 1800s. (Public University vs. Private College) Because most public universities are founded by public funds, the tuition is significantly lower. This is where public and private institutions differentiate. Private universities rely mostly on tuition and private contributions for funding. (Public University vs. Private......

Private vs Public Universities in Kenya.

...PUBLIC COMPARED TO PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES. The public and private Universities in my own unbiased views differ in quite a number of weigh though we can never measure the quantity of knowledge dispatched by each plus being bright is an individual and not the school. One of the advantages with public universities is that students who qualify to go to these institutions get to pay a subsidized fee since the government pays for them some amount. With this in mind, it is obvious that high school candidates who aspire to join institutions of higher learning would definitely prefer public universities. This brings a lot of competition among those who intend to join public universities and is a relief to the parents. With private universities, it is very expensive and therefore the first qualification is the money factor, followed by the grade you got in your KCSE. This makes it possible for the students who can afford to pay to learn in private universities. Joining a Public University comes with pride, with the belief that those who join private institutions are not bright enough to match them. Joining a public university does not come easy, You know it’s so hard to remain in the sieve of thousands of candidates, the criterion that is so strict. We therefore find that public universities only take the students who perform the best in the country, where they select them in a chronological manner from the highest. A critical look at both the private and public universities reveals......
