...operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store, and BlackBerry App World. Usually, they are downloaded from the platform to a target device, such as an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android phone or Windows Phone, but sometimes they can be downloaded to laptops or desktops. Mobile apps were originally offered for general productivity reasons, including email, calendar, contacts, stock market and weather information. However, public demand and the availability of developer tools drove rapid expansion into other categories, such as mobile games, factory automation, GPS and location-based services, banking, order-tracking, and ticket purchases. For this assignment I will focus on two apps, Swell Radio and MyFitnessPal. I am a person who is just getting my feet wet when it comes to the tech sector. I am a beginner, and so far I seem to enjoy apps that are rather simple and productivity based. MyFitnessPal Available on: Website myfitnesspal.com Founded 2005 Founder Albert Lee, Mike Lee Product Czar Warren Wan MyFitnessPal is very useful and is a must have when I want to keep track of my calories consumed and burned on a daily basis. The app’s aim is to make good health attainable and sustainable for everyone. Used by more than 40 million people, MyFitnessPal is the leading resource for taking charge of daily health. Events

...important incidents in the Philippines that shaped the course of its history. These are events - both good and bad - that are equally important in nurturing and strengthening the solid foundation and sense of nationalism among the Filipinos. Prior to the Spanish colonization, the Philippines already enjoyed a rich culture and tradition, still evident among the indigenous peoples living up in the mountains or along the coast. For more than 300 years, the country was under the strong grip of the Spaniards – who abused and caused the death of many Filipinos. They introduced many colonial impositions, particularly regarding economy, such as polo y servicio, tobacco monopoly, tributary system, cedula personal, cash-crop economy and so on. However, despite all this, the Spaniards have also contributed so much in Philippine culture, language, education, architecture, Filipino mind sets and most importantly, the introduction of Christianity in the islands. By the 1900s, the Philippines became the only Southeast Asian country to be occupied, if not totally colonized, by the United States. They came to “civilize” us, justified by the so-called “Benevolent Assimilation” - educating the Filipinos, introducing to them what a civilization is like, and when all things are done, leaving them strong enough to rule their own country. However, their stay in the Philippines was marked by many tortures and bloody events, yet, they introduced a better system of education in the Philippines......

...the key questions in the United States v. Microsoft antitrust trial was whether Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser was part of its Windows operating system or a separable piece of application software. As another example, the GNU/Linux naming controversy is, in part, due to disagreement about the relationship between the Linux kernel and the operating systems built over this kernel. In some types of embedded systems, the application software and the operating system software may be indistinguishable to the user, as in the case of software used to control a VCR, DVD player or microwave oven. The above definitions may exclude some applications that may exist on some computers in large organizations. For an alternative definition of an app: see Application Portfolio Management. [edit] Application software classificationApplication software falls into two general categories; horizontal applications and vertical applications. Horizontal applications are the most popular and widespread in departments or companies. Vertical applications are niche products, designed for a particular type of business or division in a company. There are many types of application software: An application suite consists of multiple applications bundled together. They usually have related functions, features and user interfaces, and may be able to interact with each other, e.g. open each other's files. Business applications often come in suites, e.g. Microsoft Office, OpenOffice.org and......

An Event

...It was one of the few events in my life that I felt totally compelled to attend .When Elijah and I had broken up two years ago ,it was an acrimoonious parting .We were both too young then to value the relationship and in the end ,decided we could eventually talk to each other in a civil manner before breaking up .Now he was going to be married to someone else ,and I was invited. I knew that my bossom friends were expecting me to turn down the invitation ,which made me even more determined to attend the ceremony .I felt that I was mature enough to handle such event and wanted to lie to rest the rumours about me still hurting after all this time.It was certainly an important event for me as it was golden opportunity to prove my strength once and for all. "My maturity was at stake!" I thought. On the day of the wedding,I woke up bright and early, determined not to be late.I had laid out my white dress which had been picked out the week before.I was going to look good and be gracious at the wedding.I could let "bygones be bygones," period. The sun shining in a clear blue sky and the rustle of leaves,as they brushed against each other on the gentle breeze, was like soothing music to my eras. When I left the house, there was still a good two hours before the wedding.I decided to go and window-shop at Queen Bay which was next to the church so as to be sure that I would be at the event on time. The shopping centre was particularly crowded at that time, being a......

College App

...College apps From a young age I have always had a passion for athletics. From baseball to football, I was in love with the activities. Although baseball has a special place in my heart that could never be filled. From the tee ball leagues, i put my heart and soul into the sport, and sadly never recieved anything in return. I could never say i didnt enjoy my time playing, but I could say that all the events that came from baseball started a long road filled with obstacles and challenge at every corner. Without this path my life would be completly different, nor do i believe i would be as happy as i am now. Throughout my childhood i played on several different travel and recreational leagues for baseball. Honestly i would still be playing if it wasnt for one fateful game in my 8th grade year of middleschool. it was the fall season for travel ball and i was playing a scrimmage in the pre season against a fairly easy team. During the 4th inning i was switched into right field, were my baseball career would change forever. Long story short i was sent falling backwards going for a pop fly, and landed on my throwing wrist causing a buckle fracture. Sadly this ruined my ability to throw a baseball as i could before, I could no longer play the sport that meant absolutely everyrthing to me. This led to a sad state of depression, which caused me to become very inactive and gain alot of weight. I had no idea what to do what myself anymore, I felt a loss of purpose. Some time passes......

Banking App

...Banking APP In today’s world a phone is more than just a device that makes calls to family, friends and businesses, we are doing so much more than we ever could imagine in the past. The smart phone is the new device where we are able to do so much more than just talking, the wireless technology has taken the office and put it in the palm of our hands and made it mobile, so we can do those office functions remotely. The advantages of this technology in short is that it allows more communication with others through not only talking but also through texting and internet which has allowed face to face communicating like skype and Apple’s face time to name a few. We are also dependent on our smart phone to help us navigate through our day from the calendar to remember appointments, meetings, doctors’ appointments, alarms, GPS, internet, social media, shopping and mobile banking which all of these are applications that make day-to-day life a little easier. Many of the changes that we have seen when it comes to smart phone technology have improved quite a bit of the last ten years or so and are that people are using those features and functions that are convenient for them. Much of this can be contributed to the fact that in today’s times we have less and less time to ourselves, we need more convenient ways to do more in shorter amount of time and smartphones and APPS are a way to get this done . This is not only for the US citizens but worldwide users as well who maybe feeling the...

...platform for Apple's email servers and calendars. Third-party iOS and OS X app developers are able to implement iCloud functionality in their apps through the iCloud API.[25] Backup and restore[edit] iCloud allows users to back up the settings and data on iOS devices running iOS 5 or later.[26] Data backed up includes photos and videos in the Camera Roll, device settings, app data, messages (iMessage, SMS, and MMS), ringtones, and Visual Voicemails. Backups occur daily when the device is locked and connected to Wi-Fi and a power source. In case of a malfunction of any Apple device, during the restoration process, iCloud offers to restore all data along with App data only if the device was synced to iCloud and backed up. Back to My Mac[edit] Main article: Back to My Mac Back to My Mac, also previously part of MobileMe, is now part of iCloud.[27] As before, this service allows users to log in remotely to other computers that have Back to My Mac enabled and are configured with the same Apple ID. Email[edit] As with MobileMe (and .Mac and iTools before it), an iCloud account includes an email account. Unlike MobileMe and its previous iterations, an email address is an optional part of an iCloud account, in that the user can choose not to use it but can still use the email as their iCloud Apple ID. The email account can be accessed using any standard IMAP-compatible email client, as well as the online web app mail client at the iCloud.com. Additionally, on an iOS device,......

Events

...Tragic events are those events that causes great abruption and powerful impact, which ends up having a universal response from all the people (Arkkelin & Veitch, 1995). These types of events could be hurricanes such as hurricane Katrina, volcano eruptions, floods, or even disasters that are totally unexpected such as the airplane crash of September 11, 2001. The analysis after this traumatic event underlines the understanding of how individuals perceive, respond, or change their behavior when facing global threats. The plane crash of 9/11 caused a fear of uncertainty and left individuals wounded in realization that, indeed everyone is exposed to vulnerability and that even within our comfort zone, it takes few seconds for our whole lives to turn upside down. The article chosen for this analysis is of Bornstein & Hendricks (2007), which talks about the stress responses that were faced by adolescent living in the Washington area. The article will include adolescent perception, personal characteristics, and maternal characteristics. The Theoretical Basis of the Article This article sheds light on unique perspective as few studies have examined the after effects of war or natural disaster on adolescence from an ecological point of view. This article concentrates on maternal characteristics, personal characteristics, as well as the perception of the adolescent towards the primary giver (Bornstein & Hendricks, 2007). From a young age, a child will use same or similar...
