Why I’ve chosen the Middlesex University of Dubai? I believe that personal growth and development are key components of the university years and I am convinced that studying abroad experience would offer unique possibilities to accomplish these aims. Ever since I was a young boy, I have dreamt of living in a foreign country. I always knew that I wanted to go abroad and study in Great Britain. Something about being independent and exploring the unknown always appealed to me. Now, although my ideal destination has changed from Europe to UAE, I still seek to fulfill that long-awaited childhood dream. I continue to have a strong desire to explore the world around me and to learn and experience foreign people and their authentic culture. Studying abroad was a thoughtful decision for me. I have reached a point in my life where I want to see beyond the walls of my own everyday lifestyle and way of thinking and experience something new. I have chosen to go to UAE for a variety of different reasons. First, I would like to improve my English language skills. Now, in our changing and internationalizing world, it has become even more important than ever to communicate with people around the globe. English seems to be the language of choice with a great percentage of usefulness as nowadays as in future. While in UAE I would also like to fulfill various academic goals such as economics, administration and management. The second reason that made my family and me prefer studying at the Middlesex University, UAE, is its high popularity of education in the world. As it is considered, the Middlesex University has prepared a great number of highly qualified specialists in different fields of science. UAE is highly developing country in the region and in the world. Moreover, I would love to study at your…...

...design choices on their merits and choose the solution that best matches the requirements. The crucial and unique task of the engineer is to identify, understand, and interpret the constraints on a design in order to produce a successful result. It is usually not enough to build a technically successful product; it must also meet further requirements. Constraints may include available resources, physical, imaginative or technical limitations, flexibility for future modifications and additions, and other factors, such as requirements for cost, safety, marketability, productibility, and serviceability. By understanding the constraints, engineers derive specifications for the limits within which a viable object or system may be produced and operated. [edit] Problem solving Engineers use their knowledge of science, mathematics, logic, economics, and appropriate experience or tacit knowledge to find suitable solutions to a problem. Creating an appropriate mathematical model of a problem allows them to analyze it (sometimes definitively), and to test potential solutions. Usually multiple reasonable solutions exist, so engineers must evaluate the different design choices on their merits and choose the solution that best meets their requirements. Genrich Altshuller, after gathering statistics on a large number of patents, suggested that compromises are at the heart of "low-level" engineering designs, while at a higher level the best design is one which eliminates the core......

500 Best Essay

...What a delight reading all the 500 word essay submissions was! I was surprised at how many I received – over 100! And those were just the people who took this challenge and motivated – I know many more may have felt intimidated or overwhelmed by the assignment, or as if doing such a thing was beyond their ken. Here’s what I look for in a good essay: a beginning, a middle and an end, a provocative or revealing subject, an intimacy in the writing, and an essay that leaves me either having learned or felt something. I love essays that are courageous and confessional. I love essays that make me crave the outcome and wonder where it’s all leading. I ADORE essays that open with a provocative statement. The winning essay opens with this: My father didn’t recognize his sister when he carried her on the stretcher to the ambulance. What the what? Who could resist reading the rest? I couldn’t. Essay writing may be new for many of you but I encourage you to continue to work on that skill set. How can you jump start your essay with a provocative or interesting opening statement? How can you summarize your thesis in a way that satisfies us mightily? How can you tease us along and make us crave the outcome? Writing something in only 500 words is a creative exercise both in restraint and in meaning. These essays would have been significantly less compelling if another 250 words were added – unless the thesis at the top of each essay were more complex. The word count limit (again, a......

...Best of the Best Best of the Best is a movie about the world of martial arts combined with a fictional story line. Released in 1989, I saw this movie for the first time when I was only 10 years old and it has always been a personal favorite. Aside from some cheesy acting and basic storyline the movie itself has merit, not so much for the violence that is innate to the sport of Tae Kwon Do, but for the ending that is wrought with emotion. This movie does not glorify violence in the sport, but rather portrays it matter of fact. The premise of the movie revolves around a tournament between the South Koreans and Americans. The tournament is to be held in Seoul, South Korea and so the task begins of assembling the American team. James Earl Jones plays the role of Coach Frank Couzo who invites top and former great karate athletes to be a part of the five man team. (Lots of references to karate, but it is actually Tae Kwon Do). The five men are brought together, from different backgrounds and of course with varying personal struggles and personality conflicts ensue. Sonny (David Agresta), is an Italian, street smart, macho man. Virgil (John Dye) is the centering persona of the team. He is a Buddhist and expresses the need for calm and meditation. Travis (Chris Penn), is a bit of a hillbilly and has quite the temper. Alex (Eric Roberts), is a widower and has a son, Walter. Alex was forced to retire years ago after suffering a career ending shoulder injury. Tommy......

...Erickson's work. This will be accomplished by excerpting small portions of various published articles about his work, most of them of a transcriptual nature. Part III of this volume is a step-by-step, explicit presentation of the patterns identified in Parts I and II. This Part is intended to give you the skills necessary to construct each pattern through an understanding of its formal characteristics. Our belief is that in this way the patterns of Erickson's behavior will be made available to you for use in your own work. We strongly recommend that you read this volume carefully and that you spend some time experimenting with each pattern. This book is designed primarily as a training manual, not as a novel. Careful use and re-use will reap the best rewards for you. FOOTNOTE 1. Since I was quarantined at home on the farm, there was little diversion available. Fortunately, I had always been interested in human behavior, and there was that of my parents and eight siblings, and also that of the practical nurse who was taking care of me, available for observation. ...Q1. a) The T-value is 3.5 and the P-value is 0.001. The chance of an association between Expend and Number of this magnitude occurring just by chance is around 1 in 1000. So we very strongly suspect that there really is an underlying association. b) The average or expected monthly expenditure on extras this year is $12.26 for customers who did not take any options last year. For every option the customer took last year you can add another $2.79 to this. c) The prediction equation is not very accurate. The model error measures the typical difference between the fitted values and the observed values. This is a rough estimator of the prediction error. The sample size was n=83 so there is a typical prediction error of [pic] which is the large in comparison with the typical size of expenditures in this data set (roughly $10-$30 judging by the given mean and standard deviation). The percentage of variation in expenditure explained by optional purchases last year is only 12%. d) We predict $12.26+5x$2.79=$26.21 e) This is a simple regression (single input variable) and chapter 15 gave an explicit formula for the slope estimate. The equation for slope is [pic] and we know this equals 2.787. We also know that the standard deviation of expenditure is 14.064 and of number is 1.828. Solving for the correlation gives the answer 0.362. For simple regression, you can calculate the slope from the correlation or visa-versa. For multiple regression, it is the partial......

...Discussion 2 The information that is given is as follows: • raised $15 million and retired $19 million in new long-term debt • sold $25 million in new stock and repurchased $5.4 million • purchased $50 million in fixed assets and sold $5.73 This tells me that in all three categories (operating, investing, and financing activities) the firm has a positive cash flow. The more accurate cash flow statement would have to be the income statement. This statement will tell if the company made profit or note. The expansion plan is a good move. Base on the positive trends from 2007 to 2008 from total current assets, total fixed assets, total current liabilities, total equity, I can confidently say that expanding would be in the best interest of the stockholders and the company. These numbers tell the company is operating at a profit. If the company was to be sold today and all debts are paid, the stockholders/owners of the company would make out with money in the bank. Best Practice / Best Fit

...Organizations often implement a best practice or a best fit approach to strategic human resource management. A best practice approach would suggest that a set of universal practices could be applied to various different organizations in various different trades. On the other hand, a best fit approach to strategic human resource management would suggest that different practises would need to be put into play depending on different variables such as company culture, processes and external environmental factors. A best practice approach could be beneficial to an organizations attempt of strategic HRM as it would help the organization to make a profit and to obtain their long-term goals. In order to ensure that they are using a best practice approach, the organization would need to make strategic changes to the recruitment and selection process, rewards, training and to ensure that employees remain motivated and committed. A best practice approach could also be beneficial to strategic human resource management as best practice activities often strive to improve overall performance of an organization by selecting key best practices that may better the company such as training, appraisal and reward systems. A best practice approach may also be beneficial to an organization in terms of finding a solution, as the best practice approach is more universal, the solutions are proven to have been successful with other companies. Is Best Buy the Best?

...Is Best Buy the Best? Is Best Buy the Best? Best Buy is one of the leading retailers in electronics and electronic services. With the growing popularity of online shopping, some retail stores are experiencing less physical business and more e-commerce. Best Buy has adapted to this trend and is still able to maintain many stores throughout the nation. The company simultaneously provides an easily navigated website to reach all of its client preferences. To maintain a structure as this, a company must have superior management and functionality. There are four basic fundamentals that encompass the management of a successful business such as Best Buy. The traditional functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. These functions are affected by several external and internal factors such as globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, and ethics. Five Common Factors In 2010, Best Buy separated itself as a company into three divisions; the Americas, Asia and Europe. Each division was created with an executive vice-president running each area who would report to the Chief Executive Officer (Ernst & Young Global Limited). When the company planned this out, it created a self-paced region instead of the entire company proceeding as a whole. In other words, Asia can progress at a different pace then the Americas in all aspects. This plan enabled all regions and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to use their brains and ideas from clients to develop more......

Best Fit and Best Practice Perspectives for Hr Management Essay

...concepts of 'best fit' and 'best practice' are two well known approaches to human resource management. The 'best fit' perspective claims that HR strategy become more and more efficient when it is linked to its environment of the business. It explores the close link between strategic management and HRM by assessing the extend to which there is a vertical integration between an organisation business strategy and its HRM policies and practices. 'Best practice' school claims that certain 'best' human resource practices would result in enhanced organisational performance, manifested in improved employee attitude, lower level of absenteeism and turnover, higher level of skills for higher productivity, enhanced quality and efficiency. That is why the 'best practice' model is also referred as high commitment models. These two concepts are generally described within the literature but it is sometimes difficult to stretch the specifications of each approach. This essay will attempt to fill that gap. Section two compares these concepts according to human resource studies. It will highlight areas of agreement between each approach. Section three therefore stretches the differences between 'best fit' and 'best practice' approaches. We now try to discuss in section four the approach taken in this debate by the CIPD. Concluding elements are found in section five. The terms 'best fit' and 'best practice' are used in strategic human resource management literature. The 'best fit'......

...Regulatory policy reforms should encompass two elements: first, strengthening supervision and the enforcement of prudential rules, especially in the area of credit risk; and second, ensuring that the regulatory framework enhances, rather than diminishes, incentives on bank owners and managers for prudent management. The four countries covered in this paper implemented major reforms to prudential regulation in the late 1980s and/or early 1990s. Bank supervision departments were strengthened and new banking laws were enacted, incorporating much stricter prudential regulations on, inter alia, capital adequacy, large loan exposures and insider lending. This has brought most aspects of their banking legislation into line with international best practice. If the new banking legislation is to be effective, close monitoring of the banks by the supervisors, particularly of their asset portfolios, and the imposition of sanctions on banks which violate the regulations, are necessary. To prevent insider lending (or at least levels of insider lending which exceed prudential limits) and other forms of imprudent lending activities, such as excessive loan concentration, supervisors must carry out regular on -site inspections and have the accounting skills to detect when bank records have been falsified. Regulators should also focus attention on identifying potential problem debts in the banks, and ensure that banks properly classify loans according to predetermined criteria based on......
