...English Comp.I 1100-01 4/10/2012 The most important concepts I’ve learned in this semester was to not give up and keep going. I love all my classmates and instructors because they have taught me not to stress about college and work. My instructors help me each and every day to keep trying on my homework and when I ask for help, they are right there supporting me. I know that my grades and attendance is not all that great but my instructors give me chances to catch up on all my homework and give me second chances. I think by just handing in all your homework that attendance shouldn’t even matter because there all kinds of students that work and go to college at the same time and I am one of them. I am learning how to balance a full-time job and also being a full-time student, it gets very overwhelming but my instructors encourage me not to give up because they all have been there before and know what it feels like. This semester has been overwhelming for me but I am teaching myself to keep striving for more and not give up. I am so thankful for having such incredible instructors and classmates to keep pushing me to become that much better at what I am doing in college. Little Priest is probably the best college for me right now because it is the most easy college there is for me right now especially juggling a job on the side. ...Brandy Tyree Sharla Yates English 098 June 7th, 2012 Succeeding in College College can be a very difficult time in a persons life. Especially, for those like myself that have been out of school for many years or even for those who had hard times in high school. It is my first quarter in college and I have found that college does not have to be challenging. If one such as myself, just takes the initiative to learn the ways to make it not such a trying time we can become very successful. There are many different study skills that can help us succeed in college. Note taking is one of the skills that I have found very helpfully in my first quarter in college. Taking notes can be used for many different reasons and help in many different ways. Notes can be used for teachings in class that have no related textbook. Writing down things like questions the teacher asks as well as the answers to those questions, these can reveal the teachers goals and objectives of the subject (“Study Tip #09”) . Even if there is a textbook to the teachings, notes can save time in having to go back through a chapter of the book to find the information needed. Writing down everything from titles to organize the notes to new words or concepts, even diagrams and forms can all be very useful. These notes are very helpful to look back at to study for upcoming exams. If one does not take notes all they have is memory to rely on, the odds aren't very good. “Most people can keep information in......

...WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN COLLEGE? The real meaning of college success to me is being able to look back after you graduate and be able to say “I did great!” That I enjoyed my college days while trying to manage being a mom, wife and a working-student. My steps includes time management, aiming for A’s, knowing my interests and what I want to become, Setting priorities, choosing my peers and Learning how to take it easy. These pointers will be my guide to be successful in college. First, is time management. I will use my spare time for assignments, projects, or just by doing advance reading. I know that getting ahead helps a lot, incase something unexpected comes up, then I do not have to worry about coming to class not ready. I will use my free time wisely and try to be more productive. Getting power naps whenever I can to help me recover from less than 8 hours of sleep. I will eliminate web surfing, unless it’s school related, watching TV shows that eats too much of my time, and switch reading magazines to reading my textbooks. Second, is aiming for straight A’s. This won’t be easy but I know with a positive attitude and dedication, It’s not impossible. I will work hard, study hard and I won’t let negativity or failure occupy my thoughts. ...Personal Responsibility and College Success Erin A. Miller GEN/200 December 4, 2011 Aminah Brelvi Personal Responsibility and College Success It is my belief that the correlation between personal responsibility and college success encompass all areas of my life. Even though teachers are there to teach me, implementing my personal responsibility values will ensure my college success by using solid time management strategies, identifying my goals, and managing my stress. Definition of Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility, to me, means being aware of my commitments, knowing what my resources are to follow through with those commitments, understanding my deficits, exploring ways to better them, and being active with my goal planning. My management of time and stress will be the two biggest hurdles to overcome. When I am considering how best to manage my time, I look at four specific areas: structuring time for my schoolwork, using an effective calendar, scheduling family time, and managing my stress. Dave Ellis(2011), author of Becoming a Master Student, summed it up so well by saying, “Time is an equal opportunity resource. All of us, regardless of gender, race, creed, or national origin, have exactly the same amount of hours in a week. No matter how famous we are, no matter how rich or poor, we get 168 hours to spend each week-no more, no less.” Relationship between Personal Responsibility and College Success The first......

It will also talk about the relationship between personal responsibility and college success, and last but not least, the main reason of being successful in school. When people hear the word responsibilities, it comes to their mind to take actions, to be obligated to do something, maturity, reliable, and trustworthy. Responsibilities mean to that people have to do things that they normally do not do. Examples, taking care of their kids, making sure the bills are paid, having transportation for the kids, having clothes and shoes, and having food in the house. There are a lot of ways to be responsible. Secondly, when it comes to personal responsibility and college success, the two seem some what the same. People can not have one without the other. They both have goal settings and require time. Personal responsibilities is the key to college success because at times, people often find themselves falling short and have a habit of turning assignments in at the last minute or try to cram in a lot for a big test. ...College Success Helpful Tips For College and Life “Becoming a Time Manager and a Goal Setter” is a chapter that teaches skills that can used in every part of life. The purpose of this chapter is to teach you how to manage your time and establish goals in each area of your life. Some types of goals are an immediate goal, which is achievable in a few hours. A short-term goal is achievable within the range of a week to a term. An intermediary goal is achievable a year or more. A long-term goal is achievable in a matter of years (Wong 108). Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Responsibility and College Personal responsibility varies for each individual, but for me it encompasses all areas of my life. It determines how I choose to live my life via my moral compass. Education and personal responsibility are two aspects that can sometimes be hard for people to take control of. It is much easier to point a finger when things do not go as planned, such as failing a test or turning an assignment in late. In order for students to be successful in college, they must practice personal responsibility by holding accountability for their actions, identifying educational goals, and using time management skills effectively. I have made mistakes in my college career, and I do not always blame who I should. Sometimes, I would much rather blame the teacher for failing a test or not agreeing with my grades when either turning my assignments late or not turning them in at all. The truth is that I should hold myself accountable for my actions. It was up to me to get the work done and to turn in the assignments. It is also my personal responsibility to study for the tests and to put in the correct amount of time each week in order to pass the course. I appreciate the teachers that do not give in the rules that they have made, and those who hold us students to our lack of responsibility. Learning includes making mistakes, but if we do not learn from our mistakes then that is solely our fault and nobody else’s. Another way I can be successful in college by using......

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Responsibility and College Success Andrew More Gen/200 August 20, 2012 Prof. Cassandra Smith Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal responsibility for me is an important concept composed of three parts. It is a continuous process, starting with the recognizing of social standards, which leads into the formulation of a plan as an effort to comply with these standards, and ends with the acceptance that failures are a direct result of my own shortcomings. These components are every bit as important as the whole, all intrinsically tied in with long term college success. Personal responsibility commences with the recognizing of social standards. People do this automatically without even knowing it. It is the constant desire to fit in, the interpretation of what is socially acceptable or not. This is where I choose what social group I wish to belong to. Each social group has its own different set of standards, yet they are always polarized into success or failure. My understanding of these standards is the basis for my perception of what failure is, and what success is. According to Haskins (2009) “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity.” It can be said that students in general wish to be perceived as successful. The first thing I as a student do is evaluate what success means in my......
