I'm sure many of us have tried coloring our hair at home and just follow the directions on the box. If you are planning on doing this by yourself, there are many imperfections that you and others might notice: missing patches of the hair, applying the dye unevenly, and dye getting on your skin when washing it out. The first thing you need to do it find the right color fr your hair. If you're dying your hair for the first time, try to find a dye that isn't a drastic change in color. Next, you can start the process of actually dying your hair. Cover up your neck with an old towel and wear the gloves provided. Make sure you are wearing an old piece of clothing that you wouldn't mind throwing away if you got dye on it. You may want to use some petroleum jelly around your hair line, to keep the dye from staning your skin. Now to start dying your hair, take the dye and pour it in the bottle provided and shake it up very well. Clip up the parts that you're not ready to dye. Gradually apply the dye to the hair that isn't clipped up. It's easier to work the dye into your hair of you use a comb. Work from one side to the next, applying the dye with the use of the comb. When finished coloring each section, don't disturb the color in your hair for the amount of time prescribed in the directions. After your hair is put up in some kind of bun, wipe the dye off, if any, that got on you with a damp towel or baby wipe. After the time is up, wash your hair with warm water and shampoo. Repeat twice to remove leftover color. Apply the conditioner that came with the hair coloring kit, let the conditioner sit in your hair for five minutes and then rinse it another two times. Blow dry and style if…...

Edge Coloring

...Edge coloring From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search     A 3-edge-coloring of the Desargues graph. In graph theory, an edge coloring of a graph is an assignment of “colors” to the edges of the graph so that no two adjacent edges have the same color. For example, the figure to the right shows an edge coloring of a graph by the colors red, blue, and green. Edge colorings are one of several different types of graph coloring. The edge-coloring problem asks whether it is possible to color the edges of a given graph using at most k different colors, for a given value of k, or with the fewest possible colors. The minimum required number of colors for the edges of a given graph is called the chromatic index of the graph. For example, the edges of the graph in the illustration can be colored by three colors but cannot be colored by two colors, so the graph shown has chromatic index three. By Vizing's theorem, the number of colors needed to edge color a simple graph is either its maximum degree Δ or Δ+1. For some graphs, such as bipartite graphs and high-degree planar graphs, the number of colors is always Δ, and for multigraphs, the number of colors may be as large as 3Δ/2. There are polynomial time algorithms that construct optimal colorings of bipartite graphs, and colorings of non-bipartite simple graphs that use at most Δ+1 colors; however, the general problem of finding an optimal edge coloring is NP-complete and the fastest known algorithms for it......

Highlight Hair

...highlight your hair. You can apply honey straight to your wet hair and leave on for two hours. An alternative method is to mix equal parts of honey, lemon and water in a spray bottle. Apply to damp hair and spend an hour in the sun. You will need to wash your hair twice to get out all the honey. Honey gives hair a lot of bounce and natural highlights. CHAMOMILE TEABelieve it or not, brunettes can get natural golden highlights this summer with chamomile tea. Boil a pot of chamomile tea and allow it to cool completely. Wash and condition your hair normally, then rinse your hair with the tea. Relax outside in the sun with your tea-drenched hair for 30-60 minutes. Repeat every other day until your hair has beautiful natural highlights. OLIVE OILYou may know that olive oil is a fabulous hair conditioner but many people don't realize it can be used as a natural hair lightener too. Comb a generous amount of olive oil through your hair. Spend about an hour in the sun and then wash out the oil. Your hair will not only be naturally highlighted, it will be moisturized too! Repeat three days a week until you achieve the desired highlights. LEMONThe best known of the natural hair highlighters is lemon. Mix 1/4 cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice and 3/4 cup of water in spray bottle. Spritz lemon water onto your hair but do not saturate scalp. Leave mixture on your hair for 2 hours, spending at least 30 minutes of that time in the sun. Pin Curling Your Hair

...hairstylists and celebrities continue to use it. Keep reading to learn how to create glamorous, silky curls in a matter of minutes. The best way to start this look is with clean hair. Wash hair with your normal shampoo and conditioner, and then towel dry until it is only semi-damp. Apply a frizz-fighting crème, and proceed to blow dry hair straight. Gather the essential pin-curl materials: setting lotion, bobby pins and a rat tail comb. Make sure that you place your pins in an easily accessible place, preferably in front of a mirror. Begin by applying a bit of setting lotion to a one-inch section of hair; this will make strands malleable, and more likely to hold a curl. Wrap the ends of the hair around two fingers, circling twice. Proceed to roll the hair up towards the scalp in a tight loop. Be sure to loop the hair in a circle without actually twisting the hair itself, as twisting the strands can affect the integrity of the curl. Once you have rolled the hair all the way up to the scalp, gently secure the curl with two bobby pins, crossing over the loop of hair in an “x” pattern. Repeat the process until you have pinned the entire head of hair. Wrap a silk scarf around your head and apply gentle heat to the hair, using a blow dryer on the lowest setting. Remove the scarf and allow hair to cool. Gently remove the bobby pins to reveal a head full of gorgeous, shiny, and beautifully retro pin curls. Channeling old Hollywood glamor has never been......

Effects of Hair Die on Hair

...The Anatomy and Chemistry of Hair and Hair Dye Many different plant extracts were used for hair dye in Europe and Asia before the start of modern dyes. Indigo, known primarily as a fabric dye, could be combined with henna to make light brown to black shades of hair dye. An extract of the flowers of the chamomile plant was long used to lighten hair. The bark, leaves, or nutshells of many trees were used for hair dyes. Wood from the brazilwood tree yielded brown hair dyes. Another hair dye was derived from a tree similar to the Mulberry tree. Other dyes were produced from walnut leaves or nut husks. Some of these plant-derived dyes were mixed with metals, such as copper and iron, to produce more lasting or richer shades. Outside of the many colors that hair can be dyed, there are many different method used to color hair. Hair dye and the hair coloring process is a matter of chemistry. The first safe commercial hair color was created in 1909 by French chemist Eugene Schuller. He used the chemical Paraphenylenediamine. Hair coloring is the result of a series of chemical reactions between the molecules in hair, pigments, as well as peroxide and ammonia. The choice of which method to use will depend on the desired shade and longevity of the color. Temporary hair dye lasts for between one to three washes. This type of hair coloring involves no chemical reactions within the hair. Pigments are applied to the surface of the hair, without penetrating any further. These are easily......

...fighting dry hair. The baggy method is a good way to do this. At night, comb or finger comb through your hair, dividing it into several sections. Apply a moisturizing agent on your hair's ends, working it in with your hands or comb so that they're saturated. Good moisturizers include plain olive oil, jojoba oil, coconut oil, shea butter and sweet almond oil. However, if you have a commercial product that works well at keeping your hair soft and supple, use that. You may also want to use a leave-in conditioner first, and apply oil on top of it. After applying your product, place a plastic bag (sandwich size or smaller is suitable) over your ends and secure the bag with a rubber band. Make sure the band is over the bag and not on your hair -- you don't want the elastic tugging at your hair all night. A variation on this is the ponytail method, which you can use if you either don't have time to separate your hair into different sections or just prefer a simpler way to baggy. Pull hair into a loose ponytail and moisturize your ends. Apply a bag to the ends and secure. Cover your hair as you normally would for nighttime protection and remove the bags in the morning. Over the Entire Head Maybe you need an overall moisturizing treatment. The baggy method works for an entire head, too. Comb or finger comb through your hair well. Apply products listed above, but instead of only focusing on the ends, work them through your entire head of hair. Wrap your hair around your head; it......

Hair Research

... Abstract Hair and health have an existing relationship, yet little is known about the relationship between stylist hair care practices and encouragement of self-care in the African American community. The hair cosmetic industry has undergone a revolutionary change over the last two decades, dramatically veering from merely cleaning to repair, increasing the tensile strength, reducing oxidative damage, and stimulating growth. Unfortunately, the psychological and physical consequences of improper hair care by stylists have resulted in “hair stress” in the African American community (Winfield, 2008). The problem under investigation is what are physical and psychological processes of growing healthy African American hair, where people look good on the outside and feel good on the inside. This study utilizes a content analysis approach for using YouTube tutorials to support the “Growing Hands Theory” that encourages proper hair care practices related to physical and mental health for people of African descent. Core Concept Definition Healthy Hair Healthy hair is a result of hair care and self-care. Hair care varies from different hair types because all hair is not the same, but all hair benefits from individuals having appropriate nutrition, hydration, exercise, stress management, and restorative sleep. Strausfogel (2013), focuses on internal and external strategies for better hair growth. Many of these products that......

Healthy Hair

...Natural VS. Chemical Based Hair Britney Jones COM/170 June 30, 2014 ELSIE WALKER Natural VS. Chemical Based Hair Having natural hair is healthier than having chemical based hair. Natural hair and chemical based hair can both be straightened and curled. Natural hair straightening is a hair styling technique used since the 1890’s which involves the flattening and straitening of the hair in order to give it a smooth, streamlined, and sleek appearance. Chemical based hair gets straight by using a harsh hair product called a relaxer. Both hair types can be curled as well. Natural hair is already in a curl like form. But if you want to have more curls you can do different type of hairstyles. Some of the hairstyle are called Bantu knots, straw sets, and rag curls. As for chemical based hair you can do braid out styles and setter waves to get that perfect curl pattern in your hair. Natural hair needs a lot of moisture because it can get dry from being mistreated. Natural hair needs water and natural moisturizers to keep its moisture. To keep moisture in your natural hair you can spray water onto your hair at least twice a week to continue having beautiful moisturized natural hair. You can also use natural moisturizers like coconut milk, coconut oil, raw shea butter, olive oil, and homemade flaxseed gel. Also shampooing your hair gives it moisture too. Remember, shampooing too often strips the hair of its natural oils so be sure not to overdo it! Every other week is......

Coloring the Tides

...Red Algal Blooms Coloring the Tides Raymond A Martin College of Central Florida Abstract There are large, toxic blooms of dinoflagellates that leave a red coloration in the water. This rouge discoloring has become known as a red tide. Red tides have many damaging effects on the coastal environment and the ecosystem of the seas. They occur naturally as far north as southern Alaska to date. This paper will discuss what a red tide is and some of its causes. It will also explore the environmental impacts as well as health risks associated with these large toxic blooms. Next, we’ll look at the economic effect and the sociological impact of a red tide. Lastly, we can examine what to do to protect yourself from its harmful effects. Red Tide/Red Algae Effects What is Red Tide?  Harmful algal blooms, or HABs, occur when colonies of algae—simple plants that live in the sea and freshwater—grow out of control while producing toxic or harmful effects on people, fish, shellfish, marine mammals, and birds. The human illnesses caused by HABs, though rare, can be debilitating or even fatal. While many people call these blooms 'red tides,' scientists prefer the term harmful algal bloom. (NOAA 2012) Algal blooms, during which algae become so numerous that they discolor the coastal waters, visibly seen as reddish-brown. The algal bloom may also deplete oxygen in the waters and/or release toxins that may cause illness in humans and other animals. Species in the United States that......

The Gene Behind Your Graying Hair

...identify the genes behind gray hair, curly hair, beard thickness, and the humble monobrow. Some genes decide the color of your hair, while other, considerably less friendly genes influence whether or not you go bald. Now, a University College London study has identified the DNA behind gray hair, curly hair, beard thickness, and even the humble monobrow. The researchers say their results confirm long-held suspicions nursed by unmarried aunts — going gray simply runs in the family. We humans have lost most of our body hair over time, yet the abundance of head hair we’ve managed to retain throughout our evolution varies tremendously from individual to individual, and not just among those who regularly drop a Benjamin at the salon. According to the researchers, the appearance of our hair is mostly an inheritance game as evidenced by the obvious differences appearing on different continents. For example, straight hair is virtually absent from sub-Saharan Africa, while variable hair color is mostly found in West Eurasia. “Interestingly, different genes have been associated with straight hair in Europeans and East Asians, suggesting that this trait evolved independently at least twice,” wrote the team of researchers led by Dr. Kaustubh Adhikari Hair Diversity Adhikari, of UCL’s cell and developmental biology department, and his co-authors analyzed 6,357 people with varied ancestry across Latin America to identify new genes associated with hair color, greying,......
