Company Research Paper:
Milwaukee Brewers

Introduction
I decided to do this research paper on the Milwaukee Brewers because they are my ideal company to work for. I have played baseball my entire life and love the Brewers in particular. My desire to work for the Brewers is not solely based on the fact that they are my favorite team though. The Brewers have increased their revenue and attendance every year for the last 5, this shows that they as a company, are growing and continuing to make more money.
Background
The Brewers are a Major League Baseball Team that has been based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which has a population of about 1.5 million people since 1969 (Forbes 2011). Although the population surrounding the team is high, the brewers are the smallest market in Major League Baseball. In 2001 the Brewers made themselves known when they built a new stadium, Miller Park, which at the time was one of a kind. Throughout this paper I will give statistics such as revenue, team value, and player expenses from 2006 compared to 2011 to show how much this company is growing.
Team Value
In 2006 when Brewers owner Mark Attanasio bought the team he paid 223 million, today the Brewers are estimated to be worth 376 million, a 68% increase in five years is proof that the Brewers are a team and a company that is on the rise and growing even more every year. The valuation breakdown of the team is as follows: Sport 137 million, market 115 million, stadium 85 million, and brand 35 million. The Brewers (the smallest market in the Major Leagues) have the seventh highest television rankings, which show the dedication of their fans, and makes them a fun company to work for and be around. The Brewers have also had a 17% increase in total revenue from 2006-2011 making them one of the most rapidly growing franchises in Major League Baseball. In addition, they have shown their will to become a bigger and better franchise by going from a 65 million dollar payroll in 2006 to a 100 million dollar pay roll in 2011(Forbes 2006 & 2011).
Employees
Disregarding coaches and players, the Brewers have 222 full time paid employees on their staff. Their job titles range from scouts to director of marketing to the radio announcers (Brewers). I had the opportunity to meet with ticket salesman for the Brewers, Seth Condra and Billy Freise, both of them had nothing but good things to say about the company and said that they look forward to going into work each and every day.
Three Questions
What is the most important business aspect or department of the Milwaukee Brewers? What skills and attributes are most important to have to work for the Milwaukee Brewers? Will the Brewers continue to grow in 10-20 years or will they reach a peak soon?
Conclusion
The Milwaukee Brewers are a very good option for someone in the Sport and Recreation Management field to look in to, they are growing every year and seem to be a great company to work for. The staggering increases in revenue and team value along with their high number of employees show that they are looking for people with fresh new ideas and any way to improve their already very successful business.

...Research Paper How does an imposed requirement of regularly identifying exposure to operational risk benefit an insurance company? Executive Summary The topic of this research paper is how an imposed requirement of regularly identifying exposure to operational risk benefits an insurance company. Risks occur naturally in all business, but if risk is not controlled, there are plenty of consequences that can arise. Insurance companies deal with risk everyday, ranging from fraud, car theft, health policies, and bonds and stocks. Operational risk is defined as the resulting risk that is present after financial and analytical risk is analyzed. Actuaries are able to use many mathematical and statistical techniques that are used to calculate these risks for insurance companies. Using probability distributions and random variables, actuaries are able to identify, evaluate, and manage or control these risks. Studies on car theft have been performed to determine the percentage of risk involved in this type of risk. Different theories and hypothesis have been developed to analyze these situations. This allows insurance companies to proceed with the possibility of emerging fraud. Banks also involve different types of risk that can be modeled under a process known as Linear Discriminant Analysis. Life insurance companies involve policies between insurers and policyholders. Every contract is different for every policyholder, so the risk involved with life insurance varies greatly.......

...public as is independence from welfare. However, if the public begins to understand the true face of poverty as well as the complex causes of this social condition, more effective solutions can be applied. This study is meant to be a preliminary investigation. While it is widely believed that attitudes determine behavior, the author, through her professional experience in survey research, has noted that stated attitudes and opinions do not necessarily predict behavior. It is important to understand motivations and other underlying factors. Additionally, there may be a bias in respondents’ giving of socially acceptable responses. Bolstrum (2002c) demonstrates that while there is high stated support for public programs and policies and some positive attitudes related to poverty and the working-poor, opinion can easily be swayed. Epstein (2004) also argues that public opinion polls may not be indicative of actual preferences and support. However, as a first step, this study will utilize survey research to examine attitudes, attributions, and stated support for public policies and programs, while future research should attempt to further uncover attitudes and beliefs and how these can be shaped. Operational Definitions Attitude – “a psychological tendency that is expressed by evaluating a particular entity with some degree of favor or disfavor” (Eagly & Chaiken, 1998, p. 1 as cited in Cozzarelli, Wilkinson, & Tagler, 2001). Attitudes related to poverty will be measured......
