On 1 January 1993, the single market was established by the EU. This hastened the need for a single currency. In 1999, the EU decided to set a new goal for the EMU: the introduction of a single currency. On 1 January 1999, the single currency, the euro, was issued to replace the currencies previously used in the 11 member states. There are four advantages of single currency.
First, a single currency should end currency instability in the participating countries (by irrevocably fixing exchange rates) and reduce it outside them. Because the Euro would have the enhanced credibility of being used in a large currency zone, it would be more stable against speculation than individual currencies are now. An end to internal currency instability and a reduction of external currency instability would enable exporters to project future markets with greater certainty. This will unleash a greater potential for growth.
Second, consumers would not have to change money when travelling and would encounter less red tape when transferring large sums of money across borders. It was estimated that a traveller visiting all twelve member states of the (then) EC would lose 40% of the value of his money in transaction charges alone. Once in a lifetime a family might make one large purchase or transaction across a European border such as buying a holiday home or a piece of furniture. A single currency would help that transaction pass smoothly.
Third, likewise, businesses would no longer have to pay hedging costs which they do today in order to insure themselves against the threat of currency fluctuations. Businesses, involved in commercial transactions in different member states, would no longer have to face administrative costs of accounting for the changes of currencies, plus the time involved. ...I watched the news on WGN Channel 9 on November 30, 2012 at approximately 9pm CST. There was a story of a young man that killed three people at a community college. He killed two, and then killed himself. This story ran for about four minutes. I listened to them talk about this young man as they do every person that has been in this situation. They talked about him the same way that they talked about the Columbine kids, and the Batman shooter. They want you to think that these people are disturbed, and have just snapped. They said that he carried an “edged weapon” with him. He killed a woman down the street, and a teacher before taking his own life. Earlier that day, I tuned in to the news broadcast on ABC Channel 7 at 11am CST. They began the segment with discussing the same story. Their segment however, only ran about a minute. They informed me on the time that this happened. They said that the police took another man into custody following the shooting. He was alive but could have died. They thought that they had the right man in custody, but thought that there was another suspect, and were not sure the kind of weapon that was used. As much as I hate to say it, Channel 9 news got me with this one. They were more credible because they had all the facts. ...reason I have identified this book as “the author’s account” rather than “the true account” of the story is because Sinclair’s personal bias shines through nearly every page of this book. Many crucial details have been omitted because they would be oppressive to the Indian perspective and give credibility to the fact that the cowboys acted lawfully in eliminating the threat of Harper. This bias will be further examined later. Background The book opens with a detailed description of the early hours of March 9, 1988 where Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) members were involved in the pursuit of a stolen vehicle. This pursuit leads to the arrest of two youths, during which time Cst. Robert Cross approaches Harper on the sidewalk as he matched the description of a suspect. After refusing to provide identification to Cst. Cross, Harper pushed him to the ground and made an attempt to disarm the police officer. A struggle ensued over Cross’s .38 special calibre Smith and Wesson revolver, resulting in it discharging into Harper’s chest. Police and paramedics on scene attempted to keep Harper alive, but he was soon pronounced dead. This incident provides the backdrop for the remainder of this book. ...The Study on Stealth Design Technology Abstract—In this report we study some basic ideas on stealth technology. Loosely speaking, the stealth technology can be divided into two categories: the study on target shape design and the study on radar absorbing materials. In this report, we explain the basic principles of these two categories, and give some simulations by CST Microwave Studio and Feko to show the effects of stealth technology. I. I NTRODUCTION The purpose of stealth design is to protect the target from being detected by the enemy’s radar and to increase the target survivability. Ideally, for an object to be ”stealth”, it needs to have a low optical visibility in addition to being low observable in the infrared spectrum and at all radar frequency bands, also the emission of acoustic noise should be low. However, this goal is difficult to achieve, and the recent research is mainly focus on the low observability in a certain radar bandwidth. In some degree, the term ”stealth design” is equivalent to the technology of reducing target’s the Radar Cross Section (RCS). The electromagnetic wave which contains both ‘E’ and ‘H’ fields can be calculated through these equations. These field vectors are more useful in calculating band structure of photonic crystal. This report deals with the calculation of band structure in two-dimensional photonic crystal. There are many methods for calculating band structure and this thesis is mainly focused on the plane wave expansion method. This report contains the simulation procedure for calculating band structure for both TE and TM modes in the presence of dielectric medium using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) microwave studio. Results which are obtained during the simulation provide an overview of the two-dimensional photonic crystal behaviour in the presence of dielectric medium. He stated that “CST can be powerful paired with SI therapy because CST works directly on the nervous system to improve neurological functioning, processing and integration of sensory information.
