Twitter Addiction

Twitter has come to be probably the most commonly used social networking site, nearly half of twitter users view their profiles every day. Some of the users spend an unreasonable amount of their time on twitter, whiling the hours away unnoticed, while chores to go unfinished, and even going to the extent of ignoring family and friends in the real world. Although a majority of the hundreds of millions of people use twitter as a special networking device, it has several of negative impacts such as social isolation, communication problems, and health problems which profoundly impact the lives of the users. "The people drawn to Twitter are people on the cutting edge, the real nerds who are resentful of the fact that the general population have found and taken over Facebook" – (Steve Dotto), host of Dotto Tech.

“Twitter lets me hear from a lot of people in a very short period of time.” - Robert Scoble, blogger. While twitter addiction disorder or twitter addiction are not medically accepted terms, the actuality of addictive behavior on twitter is a mounting concern for scores of twitter users, and one that psychoanalysts are seeing more regularly in their patients. “If you have found that sharing, connecting and learning through twitter has replaced all avenues of learning and communicating and in your life, it is a possibility that you have twitter addiction disorder” (Fenichel.) “Using Twitter for literate communication is about as likely as firing up a CB radio and hearing some guy recites ‘The Iliad.’" - Bruce Sterling, science fiction writer and journalist.

Twitter reduces the amount of time spent with significant people in one’s life through frequent checking of profile updates and tweeting. “The qualities that make Twitter seem inane and half-baked are…...

...stand the smell of curry, and the local Indian family, who were mindful of their neighbours' aversion, had already taken to closing their doors and windows whenever they cooked the dish, but this was apparent insufficient doings in the Chinese family's opinion. the unnamed Chinese family eventually took their neighbours to Singapore's Community Mediation Centre for a ruling on the matter, and the final ruling says that the Indian family could only cook curry when the Chinese family was not at home. The judgment incensed Singaporeans, many of whom have eyed a recent flood of mainland Chinese immigrants with some disdain.  Singapore's native Chinese population have been particularly upset by the newcomers, as most of them too, do not speak English, which remains Singapore's national language. Many netizens online argued heatedly on this issue, exclaming that the PRC family should be the ones adjusting and adapting to Singapore's way of life, not tell the locals to adjust to the foreigner's way of life instead. The differences between locals and foreigners can spark off countless arguments,  and this may unfortunately result in a fractured society,  Overcrowding, infrastructure. The ushering in of foreigners and immigrants should also be halted significantly as this will result in overwhelming overcrowding in this already small red dot of ours, and an increase in market price as many rush to buy houses. ...opportunities and not letting them go. It is not abnormal for opportunities to occur and how we let us pass by sometimes. In the third stanza expresses be as happy as you can be. It does show you should always please yourself. It is not shocking she uses the expression to be please yourself but as quoted prior to ‘listen, girl, these moments are clouds:’ the sixth stanza showed new things are emerging. And at the end of the poem ‘and sunshine can’t read road signs’ it gives significance of the poem that this is you’re moment to shine. It is an irony of how you’re life will be according to her and the words used in this poem for instance ‘listen girl’ there using words spoken in daily language. This idea showed is not using the proper use of English. In the poem we do not have too a great deal of information on this ‘friend’ she is referring to, he/her is not named. It gives us influence on being fascinated on his/her life. There is no rhyming method in this poem this may suggest importance of hoe unpredictable this person life was. The poem’s tone is levelled keep your head up through all the hard times, a bright day is coming forgetting the darkness. The explanation on why I have selected both poems ‘on top’ and ‘to a friend’ is they both engage in talking about someone’s life. They both have similarity in which they both rhyme in some stanzas. The similar words at the start of each verse and the mainly significant it is we all have issues in society. Snyder and shakir......

...When I was first assigned to write a persuasive essay about the future in September, I wrote it about the different logic of people. Many can accept change that is heading towards them while many hesitate to approach it. Writing this essay was difficult because I didn’t have as much knowledge as I do now. As time went by, looking back at this essay, I believe I could’ve done a better job. As I improved on my persuasive essays, it began getting easier to develop ideas and set a theme to my writing. In the beginning it was harder to get all of my thoughts together and make my paragraphs flow. Now that I’ve mastered writing persuasive essays, my ideas flow together without taking too much time trying to fix the way my sentences formed. In the beginning of the first marking period, we were assigned to answer short constructed answers in the form of a paragraph essay. As difficult as it was in October, it is much easier now that I have many techniques I could use in writing. In the “The Autobiography” We explained the different perspectives the author, Benjamin, Franklin spoke in. It was a very complex assignment because we were limited to a paragraph. Trying to put down sentences to explain what my point was was very difficult because my sentences were not constructed properly. Throughout marking period two, I mastered writing short answers without going off topic and creating run on sentences. I learned how to place my sentences in the order which they make sense and most......

...Andrew Neimetz 12/19/2013 Mrs. Nichols English 12 Les Miserbles Composition Jean Val Jean was one of the most important characters in the book "Les Miserables". Most people see Jean Val Jean to be the protagonist of the story. This is mainly thought because the story is based around the event where Jean Val Jean, a convict that escaped and now wants to live a good life, takes a little girl, named Cosette, in and raises her as his daughter. He does this by giving the past gaurdians a lot of money. To many people, giving up a lot of your money to take in a girl that you have never met because the past gaurdians are horriable is an incredible act. It is even more incredible when you think that Jean Val Jean was never forced to give this money or take in this child. Just like many people believe he is a great person and the protaginist, others believe that he isn't as good of a person as people say. This is because even though he did rescue Cosette from a horrible life, he is still an escaped convict that hasn't paid this dues for commiting the crime. Eventhough his mindset has changed, he still commited the crime and should pay the price for it. Between these two views, many of these people see Jean Val Jean as a person who is like Christ as in being a redeemer. In the Bible, wheather you believe it is truth or just stories, Jesus is a perfect example of a redeemer because he gave up his perfect and sinless life to save people of their sins. This action is very......

...Essay summary: Suki Kim’s “Facing Poverty with a Rich Girls Habits” Facing Poverty with a Rich Girls Habits is an insightful essay published in New York by the author Suki Kim. In this essay, she shares various challenges that she had to overcome in order to adapt to a new life of poverty and cultural diversity in New York after leaving behind her affluent and luxurious life in South Korea. This article discusses the author’s point of view as 13-year-old Korean immigrant who moved to United States out of desperation and financial tragedy rather than in search of a better life. The author’s main idea in this essay is to convey the message that the foundation of divided immigrant groups, cultural differences and generation gap are so deeply rooted even in the United States that it is impossible to eradicate them from the mindset of people. The author emphasizes on the fact that her wealthy and sheltered background in Korea created confusion. Thus, making it difficult for her to identify with people’s perception of her race in America “One new fact that took more time to absorb was that I was now Asian, a term that I had heard mentioned only in social studies class”, stated author Suki Kim in her article. She continued, “In Korea, yellow was the color of the forsythia that bloomed every spring along the fence that separated our estate from the houses down the hill. I certainly never thought of my skin as being the same shade.” The author struggled to accept the fact......

Florianne by David Woodrell (Essay) The loss of someone, especially one’s own flesh and blood like a daughter, is a hard thing to deal with. In the story the narrator experiences a lack of closure, after the disappearance of his daughter. When we focus on a loss and the lack of closure, the ability to deal with it becomes weaker. ...Argumentative Essay: Why is it so Important to Know More than One Language We live in a multilingual world that is becoming increasingly globalized and it is therefore very important to know more than one language. There are three main reasons for this: an additional language can help you progress in your career, you gain an awareness of other cultures, and it helps increase our understanding and knowledge of our own language. More and more job advertisements are now specifying that they want second, third, and even fourth languages in some cases, and knowing more than one language opens up your prospects in a highly important way. Furthermore, as more and more companies begin to trade internationally, people are frequently beginning jobs for which they need no language skills, but then being asked to relocate abroad, or offered a promotion that requires language skills. Therefore, it helps with career enhancement. Some people refute this claim by saying that there are plenty of other jobs available, but this is simply not the case anymore with the global recession and more countries being international. The second reason that it is important to know more than one language is that it increases cultural awareness and allows you to communicate with different people. All good methods of learning languages also entail learning about another culture, especially when your language skills get to a higher level. This awareness allows people from different nationalities and......

The Subtweet Summary: The author uses a more serious tone in tone in the article because people use the subtweet to say something about someone but not meant to say it direct. The purpose of a subtweet is to say something to someone without saying that it’s meant for them directly. The subtweet is a pretty standard trend on twitter. Everyone uses and makes subtweets that has a twitter. Reaction: I feel like the subtweet is no different than making a regualar tweet. It’s all the same thing to me. If I wanted to make a point and not have anyone know who I’m talking about then I won’t tweet about it. People take things way out of proportion. They want to have subtweets so they could have something to talk about. Half the time when a twitter user makes a subtweet you can make out whom it’s about without having the person’s name in it. The subtweets are just another thing to cause problems and complain about....

...provoking. My main objective would be to read these noteworthy books, and then draft my papers and essays to reflect how that particular author wrote. At that point I became so determined to create remarkable literature that I began to practice by writing in my journal every night. My writings would run the gamut-from the somewhat dull day to day activities I engaged in to what the latest hot gossip in school was. When it came time to writing papers in middle school I was certain I had it nailed down, that I would always get an A+ on my writing. So when some teachers did and others did not, I didn’t understand? I was heartbroken, thinking that I had done everything I could possibly do by creating interesting stories so they would be amazed at how well I could transcribe. But the real challenge arose when I got into high school. Although I had made it into AP English, it was ten times harder than I had ever expected. Coming from a small school where your class size is made up of only 23 students, being accepted into a class like that was a huge accomplishment, but also overwhelming. We began reading stories and books that I had absolutely no understanding of. So when asked to write long essays focusing on our opinions and views of these stories, mine could be written in just a few sentences. I simply did not understand them, and my writing ultimately revealed that. Being in an advanced English class, our teacher not surprisingly expected the work of advanced students, and for......

...We have access to information every day of our lives. This information can inform us, entertain us or instruct us. More importantly, it can be used to control us. The following essay will examine how information is used to exercise power over others by discussing the novel “Animal Farm”, the film “Erin Brockovich” and the issue of asylum seekers. The issue of how information is used to control others is demonstrated in the novel “Animal Farm” by George Orwell. The novel “animal farm” is a story about animals that take over a farm. Flee their owner out, and begin to manage the farm on their own. Using their own system and power led by Napoleon. However instead of all animals being equal in the end some animals tent to have more power than others. Napoleon does this by using a variety of false information. For instance the animals must obey and follow the 7 commandments, but as time goes we seem to see these commandments being changed by the pigs. For example (page 15) the seventh commandment that “All animals are equal” gets changed to (page 90). “Some animals are more equal than others” this makes Napoleon and the other pigs better and sets more power over the others. In this and other ways, the novel “Animal Farm” demonstrates how information can give us control other others. Erin Brockovich is a film based on a true story of Erin Brockovich (played by Julia Roberts) who fought against the US energy corporation, Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Erin Brockovich was an......

...important because of the fastness Baldwin gives off by saying, “I have begun this letter five times and torn it up five times” (1). James Baldwin’s tells his readers how the racism that have been caused on blacks are ripping their souls shreds piece by piece, such as being segregated. The readers are not prepared for the bluntness. Baldwin also knows a letter can be passed on as a constant reminder that when you have constantly put someone down day in, and, day out you have ultimately crushed that person’s hopes, and, dreams of ever becoming something great. Baldwin could have had this same conversation with his nephew, but he wanted this as a reference so whites can read it. Baldwin’s images throughout his essay to his nephew allows him to demonstrate how whites see blacks in their little world. “Well, the black man has functioned in the white man’s world as a fixed star, as an immovable pillar” (5); it is from this quote Baldwin creates an image of nothing ever changes in the white people world to his readers. Since whites could remember they have always assumed blacks were here to serve them in life. Baldwin suggests that blacks are stuck on the white man time because this is what we have been taught for so long. Baldwin tells his nephew that he must not bow down to the white man.. Baldwin goes on to tell his nephew that the white man’s motives are that the blacks are to“perish in the ghetto,......

There are many reasons that a student may need to use a free English article. Aside from using free English essays to learn and improve their writing skills, some students look for free English essays in order to research a topic that they are studying.
