An inspiration. What is it you may ask? Well, to me an inspiration is something or someone you can look up to. An inspiration is someone who is worth a thousand words. An inspiration is someone who is a great role model for others. An inspiration is someone who has achieved a great number of goals. My list could go on and on, but what I am trying to get at is how Maya Angelou is my inspiration. She has achieved worldwide fame as a poet, author, actress, historian, civil rights activist, producer and director. She has published ten best selling books and numerous magazine articles, winning both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award nominations. Maya Angelou has also survived many hardships. She remembers the good times and the bad and writes about them both. Maya Angelou's sad life experiences inspired her to write works of poetry about herself. And today she is one of the most acclaimed female black authors in history. Maya Angelou is the true definition of an inspiration to me.

Maya Angelou is considered to be one of the most talented people alive. She has made a difference in so many people's lives. Her personal outreach for women, especially in Africa, has helped change the live of the less privileged. She gives her heart and soul to those in need. Maya Angelou is also a very talented and gifted woman. She has had great success in professions as an author, actress, poet, historian, civil rights activist, producer and director. She lectures throughout the U.S. and abroad. Maya Angelou also happens to be believed to be a great leader by many people. In the 1960's, at the request of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., she became the northern coordinator for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. She was appointed by President Gerald Ford to the Bicentennial Commission, and by President Jimmy Carter to the National Commission on the Observance on the…...

...English Literature Before 1790 Essay #21: Assess the role of the female characters in Oroonoko Feminist point of view and psychoanalysis Notes to LCY We change the focus now We talk about how the narrator tells more than stories She portrays 3 things - all paradoxical 1. Her position in the book – the implication of power in society, and her flip to author creating a superior position 2. Her uncertainty over female power – the flip 3. Her subordination (submission) – her paradoxical actions and her will (can also mention what she has seen) Focus on 3 things on how they affect the 3 things it portrays 1. Patriarchy 2. Oppression 3. Stereotyping   When the French philosopher Simone de Beauvoir (1973) wrote “one is not born, but rather becomes, a woman” (p. 301), it raised the idea that instead of any biological, psychological, or economic causes, being a women is purely a social construction in a patriarchal society to oppress women. The use of the word “becomes” implies a voluntary submission that under a patriarchal settings, women embrace the stereotypical norms of what constitutes femininity, hence “become” a woman (Butler, 1986). Under such settings in a parochial society, the birth of Oroonoko highlights the paradoxical traits of female though its display of psychological struggles occurring between the main characters. Oroonoko, commonly regarded as the most famous book by the first English female professional writer Aphra Behn in 1680 (already...

...are going through that someone is taking for themselves. This should show in the cash and disbursements accounts and make sure that they balance. Finally, according to the annual report it says that some of its financials are not reporting under GAAP and use other financial reporting rules to make them. The reason for this is because being an international as well as national organization GAAP rules does not apply to some international countries and therefore have to follow those countries accounting rules and it probably is not the strongest and effective system but its how those countries accounting rules operate. In closing, I would bring all these observations and recommendations to senior management and make sure that at least half of my recommendations are followed and make sure that I follow up with them and make sure that what I left is being considered and treated as precaution and to make sure that they are checking those accounts for no funny business. ...successful in the position A career in nursing is more diverse than any other available today. It requires a kind heart, a sharp mind, and a passion for lifelong learning, all characteristics I possess. It is not an easy career choice, but a challenge I thoroughly look forward to embracing. A good nurse must be nimble on their feet, conscientious, trustworthy and able to quickly establish compassionate relationships with new patients every day. The demands are high, however it is because of this that the rewards are so great. Nursing requires a combination of supreme understanding of the science of health and a caring bedside manner befitting only those who seek a position with such a personal involvement in the patient’s well being. It is my extraordinary amount of empathy and caring, in combination with a passion for science and health that makes nursing the perfect career for me. A good nurse must also be very socially adept, as they will attain to a patient’s social and emotional health as much as their physical health. I highly enjoy working with people, doing whatever it takes to improve their life and day, whether that means providing them with the best care possible, or just being there for them with a hug to get through a tough time. There is nothing that gives me greater enjoyment than improving someone’s day, whether it is just taking the time to sit with him or her and talk or something as simple as a smile given to someone who may not have one. Prospects for......

...The World Is Flat Flattener Information Technology Essay The World Is Flat is an international bestselling book by Thomas Friedman that analyzes globalization, primarily in the early 21st century. The title is a metaphor for viewing the world as a level playing field in terms of commerce, where all competitors have an equal opportunity. Globalization became more prominent during the last decades. Friedman argues that globalization made the world smaller and flatter, allowing all countries to take chance of the available opportunities equally. As Friedman describes in “The World is Flat” there are three eras of globalization and ten flatteners which made the world smaller, making it easier to communicate and share our knowledge. This paper deals with the flattener number 2 i.e.; “When the NetScape went Public” and associated developments after 2003 till date. Background Thomas Lauren Friedman is an American journalist, columnist and author and has won the Pulitzer Prize three times. In his famous book “The World is Flat” he identifies three eras of globalization. The first era, called "Globalization 1.0",between the years 1492, when Columbus set out to discover a new trade route to the New World, and 1800, made the world fall in size from large to medium. During this period, the strength of a country was based on the number of horsepower or the number of steam engines owned, compared with other countries. The second period - "Globalization 2.0", between the years 1800......

...goal to perform strongly on the compensated dimension of his/her task” (Christ, Emett, Summers, and Wood, p. 433). In my opinion, employers like the federal government, the state, and the city should provide these types of benefits. Also, health providers should be included as well. As a CEO, I would deal with criticism appropriately. Task-oriented leaders focus on getting the necessary task, or series of tasks, at hand in order to achieve a goal. These leaders are typically less concerned with the idea of catering to employees, and more concerned with finding the step-by-step solution required to meet specific goals. They will often actively define the work and the roles required, put structures in place, and plan, organize, and monitor progress within the team. The advantages of task-oriented leadership is that it ensures that deadlines are met and jobs are completed, and it is especially useful for team members who do not manage their time well. Additionally, these types of leaders will tend to exemplify strong understanding of how to get the job done by focusing on the necessary workplace procedures, thus can delegate work accordingly in order to ensure that everything gets done in a timely and productive manner. However, because task-oriented leaders do not tend to think much about their team's well-being, this approach can suffer many of the flaws of autocratic leadership, including causing motivation and retention problems. Those with specialized skill sets......

...My most important experience sought me out. It happened to me; I didn't cause it. My preferred companions are books or music or pen and paper. I have only a small circle of close friends, few of whom get along together. They could easily be counted "misfits." To be plain, I found it quite easy to doubt my ability to have any sort of "close relationship." After the closing festivities of Andover Summer School this past summer, on the night before we were scheduled to leave, a girl I had met during the program's course approached me. She came to my room and sat down on my bed and announced that she was debating with herself whether she wanted me to become her boyfriend. She wanted my reaction, my opinion. I was startled, to say the least, and frightened. I instantly said, "No." I told her I on no account wanted this and that I would reject any gestures she made towards starting a relationship. I would ignore her entirely, if need be. I explained that I was a coward. I wanted nothing whatsoever to do with a relationship. I talked a lot and very fast. To my surprise, she did not leave instantly. Instead, she hugged her knees and rocked back and forth on my bed. I watched her from across the room. She rocked, and I watched. Doubts crept up on me. Opportunity had knocked and the door was still locked. It might soon depart. "I lied," I said. "I was afraid of what might happen if we became involved. But it's better to take the chance than to be afraid." She told me......

Pentium Flaw Essay

...In June 1994, Intel discovered the floating-point unit flaw in the Pentium microprocessor. Professor Thomas Nicely, a professor of mathematics at the Lynchburg College, had written code to enumerate primes, twin primes, prime triplets, and prime quadruplets. Professor Thomas Nicely noticed some inconsistencies in the calculations on June 13th , 1994 shortly after adding a Pentium system to his group of computers, but was unable to eliminate other possible factors (such as programming errors, motherboard chipsets, etc.) until October 19, 1994. On October 24th, 1994 he reported the flaw he encountered to Intel. According to Professor Thomas Nicely, the person that he contacted at Intel later admitted to Intel being aware of the flaw since May 1994. The flaw was discovered by Intel during testing of the FPU for its new P6 core, which was first used in the Pentium Pro. Professor Thomas Nicely sent an email describing the flaw that he had discovered in the Pentium floating point unit (FPU) to various contacts, requesting reports of testing for the flaw on the 486-DX4s, Pentium and the Pentium clones. The flaw in the Pentium FPU (floating-point unit) was quickly verified by other people around the Internet, and became known as the Pentium FDIV bug (FDIV is the x86 assembly language instruction for floating point division). An example of the flaw was found where the division result returned by the Pentium microprocessor was off by about 61 parts per million. On November 7, 1994......

...MY Essay Florida, August 10th 1998 What motivates you? For as long as I can remember, I have dreamed of science. Where others see the engineering, experimentation, and presentation of science as a chore, I only see excitement. Even as a child I constantly sought it out, first on television with Bill Nye and The Myth busters, then later in person in every museum exhibit I could find. Science in all its forms fascinated me, but science projects in particular were a category all to themselves. To me, science projects were a special joy that only grew with time. In fact, it was this continued fascination for hands-on science that brought me years later to the sauna that is the University of Alabama in mid-June. Participating in the Student Science Training Program and working in their lab made me feel like a kid in a candy store. Just the thought of participating in a project at this level of scientific rigor made me forget that this was supposed to be my summer break and I spent the first day eagerly examining every piece of equipment. Even at first, when the whole research group sat there doing rote calculations and others felt like they were staring down the barrel of defeated purpose, I remained enthusiastic. Time and time again I reminded myself of that famous phrase "great effort leads to great rewards," and sure enough, soon my aspirations began to be met. This shift in attitude also coincided with a shift in location: from the computer desk to the laser lab. It...

Examples of target behaviors: 1. 2. 3. 4. You want to exercise more. You want your dog, Buster, to become toilet trained You want to study more. I want to stop smoking. 1. Identify the target behavior that you are seeking to modify. Be VERY specific (“I want to study at least one hour a day.”) I want to exercise one hour a day at home. I go to physical and occupational therapy twice a week for a total of 4 hours a week but that's not enough. I need to do more at home so I can reach my goal of independence. Since I do not exercise at home the behavior I want to modify is currently nonexistent. 2. If a desirable behavior such as reading is presently nonexistent, go to step 4. However, if it is present in limited form, or is a behavior you want to eliminate, monitor it for about a week to establish a baseline of occurrence. Behaviors can be recorded by frequency or by duration. For example, if smoking is to be decreased, count the number of cigarettes presently smoked per day. If studying is to be increased, record the number of hours presently invested daily. Also keep track of the situations in which it occurs as well as the favorable or unfavorable consequences.
