...FACTORS THAT AFFECTS STUDY HABITS OF GRADE ONE STUDENTS OF BALUARTE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LUMBIA CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY” During the last century we have moved from the Industrial Age through the Information Age to the Knowledge Age. The ability to obtain, assimilate and apply the right knowledge effectively, will become a key skill in the next century. Our ability will no longer be judged solely by qualifications gained in the past, but will also be assessed by our capacity to learn and adapt in the future. Learning isn't just about economic success, however. It is the key to achieving our full potential. Human beings are uniquely adapted to learn and we have the ability to do so throughout our lives.Learning has the power to transform us. Specifically, we can become more successful:at home and with our families, at work and at large in our local community. (Campaign for Learning, UK, 2001) Learning is very important. As human beings we are expected to learn to be able to cope with the new generation. To be able to learn effectively, one must have a good study habits. Study habits are routines, including, but not restricted to, frequency of studying sessions, review of material, self-testing, rehearsal of learned material, and studying in a conducive environment. ...Australasian Journal of Educational Technology 2009, 25(5), 645-665 Factors affecting the way students collaborate in a wiki for English language learning Vida Zorko University of Ljubljana Wikis are believed to be a powerful tool assisting the development of constructivist learning environments, as their very nature supports collaboration. However, not much research has been done into the types of collaborative interaction that take place in wikis when used for learning. The main purpose of this study is to explore the factors that affect the ways students collaborate in the wiki environment. To this end, a qualitative exploration of students’ perceptions of collaboration in the wiki was carried out among sociology students at university level who used this environment in blended, problem based learning as part of their English for Specific Purposes course. The research shows that the wiki promoted many collaborative behaviours among students, such as learning from each other and communicating with the teacher. However, the data indicate that the wiki was less successful in facilitating other types of collaboration, such as communicating with peers and co-constructing products, primarily because the students had the opportunity to collaborate in live meetings and preferred to use Messenger and email to communicate. Overall, the results obtained here confirm that the wiki can be used to enhance effective collaboration in a constructivist approach to......

Factors Affecting Junior High School Students' Interest in Physics

...Journal of Science Education and Technology, Vol. 15, No. 1, March 2006 ( C 2006) DOI: 10.1007/s10956-006-0355-6 Factors Affecting Junior High School Students’ Interest in Physics1 Ricardo Trumper2,3 We report the results of a study on students’ interest in physics at the end of their compulsory schooling in Israel carried out in the framework of the ROSE Project. Factors studied were their opinions about science classes, their out-of-school experiences in physics, and their attitudes toward science and technology. Students’ overall interest in physics was “neutral” (neither positive nor negative), with boys showing a higher interest than girls. We found a strong correlation between students’ “neutral” interest in physics and their negative opinions about science classes. These findings raise serious questions about the implementation of changes made in the Israeli science curriculum in primary and junior high school, especially if the goal is to prepare the young generation for life in a scientific-technological era. A more in-depth analysis of the results led us to formulate curricular, behavioral, and organizational changes needed to reach this goal. KEY WORDS: interest; junior high school students; physics. INTRODUCTION As noted by Osborne et al. (2003), “the investigation of students’ attitudes towards studying science has been a substantive feature of the work of the science education research community for the past 30–40 years” (p. 1049). Its importance is......

Factors Affecting Students Performance

...Factors Influencing Students Academic Performance In Nigeria Socio-Economic Factors Influencing Students Academic Performance in Nigeria Some Explanation from a Local Survey Nigeria like any other developing nations has witnessed series of political instability, with obvious effects on educational policies at federal, state and local government levels. This gradually laid the foundation of fallen standard in education at the primary and secondary school levels, which caused differential academic performance of students. In the quest of finding survival feet, the nation has evolved series of socio-economic and educational measures but these have not improved the social-economic status of families in the country. It is within this milieu that this study examines socio-economic factors influencing students' academic performance in Nigeria, with some explanations from Ido Local Government Area of Oyo State. The time frame of the study covers the period of 2004 to 2007. A total of one hundred and twenty (120) copies of questionnaire were administered to respondents. The study revealed that insufficient parental income, family type and lack of funding by governments are factors influencing students' academic performance. Based on these findings, certain recommendations are made towards improving student academic performance. Prominent of these include proper funding of education by government, sensitization of parents towards their children education and the support of NGOs......

Factors Affecting Students Performance

...All of the research reviews support the hypothesis that student performance depends on different socio-economic, psychological, environmental factors. The findings of research studies focused that student performance is affected by different factors such as learning abilities because new paradigm about learning assumes that all students can and should learn at higher levels but it should not be considered as constraint because there are other factors like race, gender, sex that can affect student’s performance. (Hansen, Joe B.2000). Some of the researchers even tried to explain the link between students achievements, economic circumstances and the risk of becoming a drop-out that proved to be positive (Goldman, N., Haney, W., and Koffler, S., 1988, Pallas, A., Natriello, G. McDill, E., 1989, Levin, H., 1986) B.A Chansarkar and A. Mishaeloudis (2001),explained the effects of age, qualification distance from learning place etc. on  student performance. The performance of students on the module is not affected by such factors as age, sex and place of residence but is associated with qualification in quantitative subjects. It is also found that those who live near the university perform better than other students. Yvonne Beaumont Walters, kola soyibo,(1998) further elaborated that student performance is very much dependent on SEB (socio economic back ground)asper their statement, “High school students’ level of performance is with statistically significant differences, linked...

...FACTORS AFFECTING STUDENTS’ PERFORMANCEA Case Of Private CollegesSyed Tahir Hijazi 1 andS.M.M. Raza Naqvi 2 Abstract: Many empirical studies are carried out to explore factors affecting college students’ performance. The focus of this research is that student performance in intermediate examination isassociated with students’ profile consisted of his attitude towards attendance in classes, time allocation for studies, parents’ level of income, mother’s age and mother’s education. The research is based on student profile developed on the bases of information and data collected through survey from students of a group of private colleges. Public sector educational institutions are not the focus of this study. IntroductionMeasuring of academic performance of students is challenging since studentperformance is product of socio-economic, psychological and environmentalfactors. For the last 20 years, education in Pakistan is growing as a profitableindustry with prime objective of maximizing profit by delivering high qualityeducation that produces well-educated, skilled, mannered students according toneeds and requirements of the dynamically growing market. That’s why thescope of research is always there to find out what are the factors that affect theperformance of the students. There are two groups of students as generallyperceived i.e. those who improve and those who don’t improve. This study cancontribute to find out the factors, which are responsible for......
