One of the main reasons why I am attending college is to better myself. I grew up in a family where no one other than my grandmother went past high school. She went to college to become a teacher however she never finished her schooling because she went to work and raised a family.
But she always instilled in me that I needed to get as much education as I could, and go as far as
I could to reach my goals. She passed away in 2007 but I know that she would be very proud of me for going as far as I have. Having a higher education actually gives me the chance of getting promoted ahead of my peers that much faster. It shows that I have dedicated my time and worked that much harder through deployments, field training and the stressors of everyday life. I think being in the military for the last 15 years has actually given me the skills to study more in this day and age. I have actually learned a lot about different type of software and computer programs that I would of never knew had I not come into the army. As a supply sergeant you really have to know more than just the basics to get by. We don’t just use
Microsoft programs in our daily tasks. Seems like every year the army makes a new system that we have to learn in our job and if you don’t know how to use the basic computer programs it will interfere with these programs as well. It doesn’t hurt that I have pretty good typing skills either. I feel that having a higher education will make me much more of an asset in the civilian world. Now days you need to have something more than just a high school diploma to get anywhere in today’s work force. I picked this degree plan because logistics is what I do in the army. It may not be exactly the same job that I am doing now however I have been doing the same job for the past 15 years and I feel that I would have…...

...Gaining an education can enhance your life as an act of defiance or an assertion of power. Going to school isn’t for everybody but it’s up to you to know what you want. As for Sherman Alexie, (author of “Superman and Me”), he described his life as an Indian boy living on the Spokane Indian Reserve in eastern Washington state and how reading and writing greatly affected his life. As an Indian child, the narrator was expected to fail. But although failure is what was expected of him, Alexie refused to do so. He wanted to prove that his culture was able to get an education and value reading. Now he teaches creative writing to Indian children and has many students described as students who are “trying to save their lives”. Therefore having this quote, “I refused to fail. I was smart. I was arrogant. I was lucky”. (p. 91). (MHG Alexie 83-91) inspired me to take on this challenge in life. An Art education provides me with skills, knowledge, perseverance, and wisdom. It broadens my attitudes of acceptance of others who are different from me; it enhances my understanding of how the world really works; it provides the possibilities for growth and joy to my life. Education challenges me to become a dedicated, productive, and relevant member of my American society. I have the ability to draw still life. My dream is to become a still life artist. The skill of drawing cartoons started in 6th grade when my teacher gave me a Garfield coloring book. Once I got home, my cousin and I decided...

Education

...What Education Means to Me My educational experience to date has been challenging. While I attended school, I did not have much encouragement or discipline to do well. Education was not your first priority in my home. With my family moving frequently it was hard for me to keep up with my educational level. I dropped out of high school during my sophomore year due to pregnancy. Although I was forced to grow up quickly and didn't have the freedom that most people my age do, I did manage to finish high school through an online program. This is my second semester of college. I had to take some developmental courses because I did not have as much knowledge as an average high school student. My developmental courses will ensure that I am ready for college level courses but at the same time will take a while to finish so this delays my degree. Finishing my high school diploma online was very beneficial for me. I was able to do it from home while caring for my newborn baby. Doing my college classes online is also very helpful due to the fact that I can do it anywhere at any time. This is very convenient because I am a stay at home mom and I can work around my daughter's schedule without worrying about finding someone to watch her while I'm in class. With all the distractions at school such as friends, clubs, and etc., online schooling is the better route for me at this point in my life. It enhances my learning, to be alone, focused, and self-disciplined. I now have a...

...Ben Franklin said, “ In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes”. Taxes are collected from citizens from the government in order for the government to provide everyone with various goods and services. Let’s say, “ The state has decided to increase funding for public education. They are considering four alternatives to finance these expenditures. All four taxes would raise the same amount of revenue.” The four taxes proposed are as follows: a sales tax on food, a tax on families with school-age children, a sales tax on jewelry, and a property tax on vacation homes. Each of these four taxes will be analyzed based on the benefits principle and the principle of horizontal equity and then classified each tax as progressive, proportional, or regressive. We will use this information to determine which tax is best suited to finance public education. The benefits principle states that people should pay taxes based on the benefits they receive from government service. Jewelry is a luxury, therefore it is not a good that everyone needs. It is most commonly purchased by the wealthy and middle class. If a sales tax on jewelry is going to be used to fund public education, a public service, the benefits principle cannot be applied to this tax. Because a majority of middle and upper class citizens send their children to private school rather than public school, they are not receiving the government benefit of paying this tax on jewelry. If however, the purchasers of jewelry do......

College Education

... Lesson 5: Write and Communicate Well 10/09/2015 College education is more important today than ever before. For me, advancing my education will provide me with more opportunities. “More than ever, attending college provides opportunities for graduates which are not as wide spread to those who have not received a higher education.” – Importance of College Education, Paragraph 1, Jeff McGuire [www.collegeview.com/articles/article/importance-of-college-education.] Furthering my education will also allow for a greater knowledge of my desired field. In life, setting goals and aspirations are a key component in success. My number one short term goal is to complete my Associate of Science in Construction Management Degree in two years. Along with completion of my degree, I also hope to further my education beyond just and Associates of Science. I fully intend on getting my Bachelor's Degree in the same field of study. Another important goal for myself, is to move up the position ladder within the company that I currently work for. To reach these goals, a lot of inspiration was needed. For many people, inspiration can come from a variety of things such as money, family and work opportunities. My biggest inspiration was to become a better version of myself, and become a bigger asset to my employer. When you complete your college education, having a plan setup on how you intend to use your education to the best of your abilities will help you start your path to......

Education

...Achieving Our Potential The majority of individuals recognize that education allows us to analyze, understand and appreciate our environment while giving us the life skills to survive in this globalized world. According to Merriam’s Dictionary, the definition of education is “any act or experience that has a formative effect on the mind, character, or physical ability of an individual.” Although most people have similar ideas as to what education is to them, I learned that not everyone’s opinion is comparable. As a student changes over from middle school to high school, they are given more of a voice because they are able to choose classes, although it is only a select amount. Allowing high school students to select a class gives them the opportunity to explore and learn a different subject. Also, students begin to discover their hidden talents. Tied together, required core classes and the classes students may choose from, help expand their prospect. Also, classes join into each other and benefit one another, sparking student interests and understanding of the classes themselves. I wondered what a high school student’s outlook on education would be and senior, Esther Herrera, gave me her opinion. “I am 17 and I think education is extremely important. I will admit that I do not always find school the most fascinating way to spend my time, but it is necessary.” The students begin to define themselves by the subjects and areas they are most interested in and their desire to......

...focus mainly one thing while they are in school; Career and income, but how do you achieve that? How does one get the career they want and the income they yearn? The answer is education several countries are known for their exceptional performance in academics and the pressure related to their education. Among those countries are China, India and Japan. These three countries share a lot in common; exceptionally bright students and a very rigorous education system that showers students with pressure from parents to perform exceptional in school. Anita Desai, who is the author of Studies in the Park, shows us how the much education is important in India. Studies in the Park is about a young man named Suno. Suno is ready to apply for college, but before he goes into college, he must pass the entrance exams for his college. Suno undergoes pressure from his parents to study hard and pass the entrance exams. Suno is always reminded from his parents that he expects good results from him and he should just be studying. Suno starts to get fed up with all the talks and his loud home, so he tries and find a new place to go and study; The Park. At the park he meets other students who are just like him; tired of all the noise at home and fed up from their parents nagging at them to study. BSN Degrees An associate's degree program takes 2 or 3 years to complete, while a baccalaureate degree requires 4 years. RNs earning an associate's degree often attend community colleges, while those pursuing a baccalaureate attend traditional, 4-year universities. Core courses are similar, but the bachelor's degree requires additional coursework across different disciplines than an associate's degree. Additional courses in a baccalaureate program teach critical thinking skills, communication, and language. The main difference in study between an ADN and BSN is the emphasis on additional education in leadership and management, wellness, and community nursing. BSN prepared nurses possess......

Sex Education

...Should the early sex education be taught in schools or not? Discuss In recent years, the number of pregnancies and the sexual transmitted infections which are experienced by the teens has unpredictably increased. The sex education can be identified as the process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships and intimacy, and the teens refers to those whose age is between 12 and 20. In whether or not the early sex education should be taught in schools a number of arguments, both for and against, need to be examined. These arguments include that sex education decreases the teenage pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases. Comprehensive sex education promotes healthy behavior. Sex education materials contain offensive content and induce youth to attempt initiated sex. Firstly, the sex education reduces the incidence of underage pregnancy and the spread of transmitted diseases. With regard to the outcomes of the sexual behaviors, it is clearly discovered that the teenage pregnancy and the sexual transmitted diseases are the most serious effects of teen sex. According to Klein, each year, in United State, teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Meanwhile, Klein states that by age 18, 70 percent of American females and 62 percent of American males have initiated sex. Thus, comprehensive sex education advocates believe that...

Furthering Education

...Running head: FURTHERING EDUCATION A Need For Further Education Lisa Heathington Grand Canyon University: NRS 430v – Professional Dynamics February 24, 2012 Abstract It is time for nursing to step up and mandate that the bachelor’s degree is the minimum requirement. It is essential in today’s challenging times that nurses understand the why and not accept the notion that this is how it has been done before, so this must be the acceptable. Only through furthering our education and the understanding of evidenced based nursing will today’s nurses be able to meet the ever changing needs in this complex society. Quality nursing care relies on education. The Associate Degree Nurse (ADN ) completes one to two years of general education with two years of clinical practice. Nurses are taking on more patients with less resources, are facing more complex illnesses, and using more technical equipment. Research has shown “lower mortality rates, fewer medication errors and positive outcomes are all linked to nurses prepared at the baccalaureate and graduate degree levels.” (Rosseter, 2011, Rosenberg & Pfeifer, p18). According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2011) “Studies have shown that graduates from an entry level nursing program may pass the NCLEX exam but that does not mean they are prepared for practice. The NCLEX does not test the difference between graduates of different programs, measure for performance, or test for the knowledge of a......
