Reaction Paper: Felix Y. Manalo Directed by Joel Lamangan under Viva Films, the epic-historical-biographical film “Felix Manalo” broke two Guiness World Record (Largest Attendance for Film Screening and largest Attendance for Film Premiere) on its international premiere night held last October 5, 2015 at Philippine Arena, Ciudad de Victoria, Bocaue, Bulacan. The said film was also a major production of the church, Iglesia ni Cristo and with its whole support, the movie became more than just a successful one; it was a mega-blockbuster hit. Originally, it was a 6-hour film, but during its premiere, only the cut-short 3-hour version was screened. The film is a historical drama portraying the life of Bro. Felix Ysagun Manalo, the first executive minister of the Iglesia ni Cristo and regarded as the messenger of God in these last days. The film was shot in a sepia-like filter which gave me the impression of it being shot in an era where colored pictures have yet to exist. The soundtrack and music video of the film entitled “Ang Sugo ng Diyos sa mga Huling Araw” was released on October 4, 2015 at the Philippine Arena. It was performed by Sarah Geronimo, composed by Joan and Ryan Solitario and arranged by Louie Ocampo. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up as it played and it also moved me like how a worship service hymn would. It revolves on how Bro. Felix Manalo survives all the struggles, and the problems he faced just to discover the one true church. The purpose of the said film is to know, learn and share the history of how the Iglesia Ni Cristo was established. As a member of the Church of Christ, I really appreciated every second of the movie especially in the Japanese period. It made my faith so much stronger. Words can’t…...

...REACTION PAPER “Tsunami” Horrifying! Shocking! Great! Alarming! These are the things I can say about the movie. I had watched so many documentary movies about this matter. At first, I thought this film will be kind boring. But I was proved amiss. As I keep looking on the scenes I get started to like it. Its drama really melts my heart. The adventure is very intense. It’s like watching a horror movie but in fact it is not. You get shouted, shocked, and amazed in every big scene, like when a big cargo ship stuck on the bridge and the man is trying to evade the falling cargo containers from that. Luckily he survived to that enormous challenge. The movie ends with the scene of Hyundai in ruins, but in an atmosphere of hope. Sometimes we need to follow our instincts. We must take a perfect action in making decisions in life. Like of what had happened to the City of Hyundai, many people killed, streets, bridges and buildings were vanished away by the tsunami in just seconds. We must also take salute to those people who are willing to offer their life for the sake of others. I desire that this movie will inform our government. They should construct strong policies concerning about our environment. May they shall take active actions in accomplishing better devices that will greatly help us in warning millions of people if ever there would be some instances that this kind of tragedy will happen to our loving country. Because nobody know when the nature will take revenge......

Reaction Paper on the Movie "Freedom Writers"

...REACTION PAPER “FREEDOM WRITERS” By: Racel Emmanuelle R. Mendoza There is an obvious discrimination shown in the movie “Freedom Writers”, where everybody hates everybody and they got no choice but to live in a world full of pandemonium. Random cultural implications are shown in the movie. Where one has to accept his/her society since birth, or someone has to really join a gang to keep up and belong to a hood. In the case of the students in the movie, they are just simply hopeless and what they all just do is to keep raging flames in their hearts. Until one tough and undeniably smart professor came on their way to take action – Ms. Gruwell. As Ms. Gruwell came into the movie, I just thought that there will really be one person who will unexpectedly cross one’s life and lead you towards impunity. Same with the world or certain country where there is rampant chaos and a peacemaker leads to fight for the right. At first, Ms. Gruwell had dismay that she wasn’t able to understand everything. And because she thinks and considers the factors she sees in her current endeavor, she came up with a very unique plan that a usual professor wouldn’t think about. – FREEDOM WRITING. I guess, the maker of the movie wanted to disseminate how the therapy of writing one’s feelings comes into such a relief to those whose minds are insane and broken. This is a very good twist in the movie, where in cultural liberalism takes place. Series of difficulties are shown in the movie, and how brave Ms...

...Theresa A ANT2410.002 Reaction Paper Chapter 13 In the chapter on Religion I find it hard to believe some of the ideas behind some cultures beliefs, but I think that has a lot to do with the fact I am not very religious and am very much a skeptic. Take for example anthropomorphic supernatural, which are deities in the form of humans, it would seem the "God" of Christianity is a form of anthropomorphic and it is said that they get annoyed if neglected, but in Christianity all bad is done by the devil and all good is done by God and no one with "true faith" would be able to be convinced otherwise. Where I would say that it is neither and it isn’t caused by a supernatural force.   It also says that is some cultures, deceased ancestors can be supernaturals. It amazing what is conveyed to kids without really knowing the basis of their cartoons. For example, I noticed while watching The Lion King and Mulan, which are two children movies, that they portray the ancestors as spirits. In the Lion King the father Mufasa is teaching his cub Simba about his kingdom he says that the gases in the sky are all of his ancestors watching down over him and that one day they will help him lead. In the movie Mulan, where in the Japanese culture ancestor worship is the principal religious activity, she prays to her ancestors for strength and guidance when she goes off to war for her father. I for one have never noticed how much religion is based in children movies before reading this chapter....

Reaction Paper on the Paper

...Reaction Paper The Paper When working in the corporate world, it can be very hard to balance work and family. I found this to be true, especially in the newspaper business, while watching the movie The Paper. Martha (Marissa Tomei) is pregnant in her ninth month and is very worried that Henry (Michael Keaton) won’t be there for her when the baby arrives. He promised to spend more time with her, but he wakes up in his clothes from the day before because he didn’t get home from work until 4am. She gets very upset. Henry is an overworked newspaper editor for The Sun, which is located in Manhattan. Where there is a lot of competition. Henry seems to be obsessed with wanting to beat the competition and gets very upset when his paper misses the big story of the day. He always saying throughout the movie “got to get story today, not tomorrow, today.” He’s under pressure to get his story, which is the right story, by the deadline. He also has pressure from his managing editor Alicia Clark (Glen Close) to get his story by deadline or they will run the wrong story today. She says “run it today, fix it tomorrow” and “those are union drivers waiting, mister.” She’s all about the money. I have had to deal with this type of thing in the corporate world. It seems that management is all about making money for the company whether it’s good for the customer or not. Henry gets caught in a dilemma when Martha sets up an interview at the prestigious Sentinel. On one......

...Reaction Paper We people must take care of what we have, especially our only home, the planet which had the ability to grow and is capable of giving everything in existence, the one and only Earth. Earth’s nature is the most precious gift that God has given us, so in return, we must take good care of it and not ignoring its climate crisis. Based on the movie, it the facts of the differences of Earth’s topography and nature nowadays compared to the times long ago. The differences of the facts were caused by this intriguing global warming that alarmed all the people in the world. This global warming is the result of the gradual increase of greenhouse gases in the ozone layer, thus trapping the sun’s heat in the earth’s atmosphere. These greenhouse gases result from human activities like fossil fuel burning, and deforestation. By this, we cans see results like the melting of glaciers, permafrost, extreme weather events, species extinctions, changes in nature, and etc. Upon seeing this, it turned out to be a wake-up call for me. It made me cautious about this topic, making me anxious for instant help to our Earth. I hope people will also feel what I feel for this problem. For this is the problem that is the hardest for us because it signifies all existing living things are in danger. It’s good to know what is stated on the movie, that many governments and countries supported the Kyoto Protocol’s aim at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is such a relief for me......

Reaction Paper in the Movie El Presidente

...El Presidente Reaction Paper EL PRESIDENTE Making a historical film is always a tough endeavor. What makes it even more challenging is its subject happens to be a controversial figure in history. And one of these is the El Presidente which was became one of the entries in Metro Manila Film Festival 2012 directed by Mark Meily. He crafts a tale centering about Emilio Aguinaldo, the first president of the First Philippine Republic. This general, politician, and revolutionary leader lived a long, grim, and gainful life from the time of the Philippines' revolution against the Spanish colonial rule to the American and Japanese. Jeorge "ER" Estregan plays the lead role with Cesar Montano as Andres Bonifacio. In this film, the story touches on the revolutionary encounters, as well as the many issues, that took place during Aguinaldo's time. It also explores his inner struggles as a husband, a member of the working class, a war leader, and a politician. It boasts a grand production highlighted by sophisticated cinematography and set pieces. Compared to many other Filipino epic and historical pictures that fall short on their technical ventures, this film gets high marks in its period and action sequences. Even with some inconsistencies and softness lingering in a couple of scenes, many shots still offer that "WOW" factor for the viewers. And most importantly, the production is still able to live up to the emotional investment such a historical offering needs to promote a sense......

Jose Rizal the Movie Reaction Paper

...JOSE RIZAL THE MOVIE Reaction Paper Heroes are not about persons having super powers or super strength just to save other people’s life. But it’s about how you make sacrifices and giving everything you have without any hesitation. The movie Jose Rizal is a 1998 biographical film of the Philippine National Hero directed by Marilou Diaz-Abaya. This movie shows what the real meaning of “patriotism” that was being inculcated in our minds until now. It also shows how noble person Rizal is. It focuses on the condition of society and government at the time of Spanish Colonization in our country. With the use of the written novels of Rizal (Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo), the Filipinos have awaken to the abusive ways and discrimination of Spaniards towards Filipinos. It really gave the picture on how the Spaniards treat us in our own country and rule the government with their own ways. Dominican Friars symbolizes justice and should be followed. Because of that Dr. Jose Rizal started the war by awakening the hearts of his people through his malicious works that gets the attention of Spanish Government and triggers the Filipino people to fight for their own discretion. It shows that being brave is not about killing others but also using the power of mind through writing. The movie had successfully showed the characteristics of a Filipino like being brave in their own way and patriotism. And the most important for Rizal was to give his country the freedom and justice until......

...REACTION PAPER THE MEN WHO CRASHED THE WORLD I. SUMMARY THE FINANCIAL AND stock market meltdown of September-October 2008 is unlike anything that the vast majority of us have seen in our lifetimes.  Americans would have to be old enough to remember 1929 and the onset of the Great Depression to have seen a crisis of this magnitude. People in Japan, it’s true, know all about the “lost decade” after the late 1980s bank crashes – but the late situation is a disaster on a global scale. Great Depression is actually, the outcome of this crisis and is unpredictable. Among other differences, the 1929 stock market crash and subsequent credit crisis led to the Great Depression of the 1930s in part because governments responded with “tight money” policies until too late, an act of suicide which central banks and governments today definitely will not repeat. Quite the contrary, extremely energetic state interventions in Europe and the USA – very much against the recent ideological free-market “run of play” – have halted the fears of a total global banking collapse and the short-term stock market panic. It’s indeed instructive how quickly the entire ideology of “unleashing the free market” and financial deregulation could be thrown aside in order to rescue giant banks that are “too big to fail.” The U.S. Treasury will not only be purchasing (at above-market rates) the “toxic assets” held by these institutions, but pumping hundreds of billions more into them by buying “preferred......

...Reaction Paper The documentary “China’s Water Challenges” is about the problems on water that China facing now. The problems they had is that they had more water, less water, dirty water and mud water. The main location of this problem is on the Yellow river. When it rains, the flow on the yellow river is turbulent that causes severe floods on the cities beside the river. When it is now raining, the river has less water and more sediments caused by the erosion of the soil. Drought was also a problem of China because some provinces do not rain often. Wastewater management causes problem to the community as it produces foul smell and contaminate the potable water of the city. China’s government, for me, has done a great job to solve these problems especially on the Yellow river. They relocate the people living on the side of the river to higher places to prevent damages from floods cause by the river. They also formed a committee that will monitor the condition of the whole river. They encourage people to build terraces and plant trees beside the river to prevent soil erosion. Their government is concerned to the well-being of the community. They really did what they are meant to do. The way they deal with the problem is something that we should learn from. We should take the China’s government as an example to take on our problem in water sources here in our country. We should work together to prevent and completely solve our problems here....

...Reaction Paper: An Inconvenient Truth The documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, by Al Gore is an eye opener and also a wake up call for me. I have heard about global warming before, probably back in grade school but I knew a little about it or I only knew the meaning of the term global warming. The documentary gave me a deeper understanding of what global warming really is and what will be the consequences if we do not do something about it. The way the documentary is presented is very effective. Al Gore defined and described global warming in a way a non-science-loving-environmentalist-geek would understand. Most likely, that would be the reason why it won so many awards. The documentary showed the basic process of global warming which is the greenhouse gases are trapping the sun's heat in the earth's atmosphere which makes the earth warm. The greenhouse gases are caused by producing too much CO2. When Al Gore compared the old and new photos of the same place, the difference was very obvious. I can clearly see that the glaciers are starting to melt. Al Gore also showed graphs and charts showing that every year the production of CO2 is getting higher also earth's temperature is getting warmer. Other nations are trying to do something about global warming. Most national governments have signed and ratified the Kyoto Protocol. The Kyoto Protocol is an amendment to the international treaty on climate change, assigning mandatory emission limitations for the reduction of......

...Reaction Paper On Immortality On Ice The movie that we watched was about reviving a person from the dead. This is said to be done in the future but they had already started researching how to use ice as a power to revive a clinically dead person. They used ice as a method to preserve a body and now they are planning on how to revive a person through the use of nanotechnology that can repair all the cells that were ruptured n the freezing process. The technology that they were referring in the movie is called Cryonics. This Cryonics would enable a man to prolong his life and at the same time be able to revive himself in certain conditions. As a technology, it also has technological system which various aspects. The first aspect is the techniques or human activity-form. In the Cryonics, it was seen on how people preserved a dead body. In Egypt, the dead people were mummified and preserved in order to reach the second life. In Cryonics, they also want to follow this ritual or activity. They want to preserved a dead body in order to revive it and not for the preparation of the afterlife. With this technology, they can prolong the life of a person or they can make people “immortal”. The technique that they will use in technology is the power of ice to preserve a dead body. Their example is a frog that was frozen to dead and was still able to revive itself when the ice melted. The second aspect of the technological system is resources, tools, or materials. In studying Cryonics......

My Reaction to the Movie Precious

...Lajada Barber Douglas Root English 102 21 September 2015 My Reaction to the Movie Precious The reality of some of the things that happen in this world and what people that get away with is unbearable and disgusting. The movie Precious is based on a true story and the fact that people would let their own daughter go through things like that and just allow it happen is just messed up on so many levels. The main character Clareece Jones known as “Precious,” was abused physically, mentally, and emotionally and many people knew that those things were going on in her life but nobody did anything about it, she had to face all her problems alone. She went home every day practically being a slave to her mother, doing everything for her, and when she didn’t the things the way her mother would want it done then she would be beaten, have things thrown at her and even forced to eat, and was even used for sex for her father. In many ways 16 year old Precious was abused and it took for her second child to be in danger for someone to help her. Precious was raped by her own father and was impregnated with two of his children, which one was diagnosed with Down’s Syndrome. Most people would not know what to say or even know how it feels to be in that predicament but I do; scared to come home because you don’t know whether or not he’s there waiting on you, feeling dirty every time he touches you or looks at you, wondering why it had to be you going through that situation, wondering......
