I have always had long hair down to the middle of my back since high school and really wanted a change. I was 19 years old and looked like I was 13 or 14 years old. So for my twentieth birthday, I decided that I was going to get my hair cut and styled. I was really excited and spent my days sorting through magazines for the perfect style. I was ready to take on a more adult look. I was talking to my friend one night and mentioned the plans that I had in mind. I told her that I wanted a really cute Bobcut with soft layers. She told me that she knew a stylist that could “hook my hair up” and offered to pay for it as a birthday gift. I accepted the offer and could not wait to get my hair done. That is when all my trouble began.
I should have known that the outcome of this situation was going to be a fail, judging by results of my friend’s hair, but I decided to go with it. When I entered the shop, I noticed that the stylist was the only one who worked in there, why because she was the owner of the shop. She seated me and told me that she would be with me in a moment. I looked at my phone and the time showed 9:30am. When she finally returned to seat me in her chair, it was 10:30am. When I was seated, she asked me how I wanted my hair. I showed her the picture from the magazine cutout. She told me that the style that I have chosen was not a problem and asked was I sure that I wanted to cut my hair. I was determined to get my adult look and said that I was sure. When she started to cut my hair, she told me that she was going to cut a little bit first and then ask me if I wanted it shorter. That never did happen. She just starting cutting and snipping like her life depended on it. I wanted to get up and leave, but figured that my hair was already gone so what more could go wrong.

She then proceeded to relax my hair. That might have been the only thing…...

When Bad Things Happen to Good People

...When Bad Things Happen to Good People Man’s search for understanding why bad things happen to people have raised many issues and challenges resulting to some questioning their faith. When tragedy occurs many are quick to ask why, and begin to question God for allowing those things to happen. We often blame others, ourselves, or even God, resulting to bitterness, hatred, and even loneliness. How tragic the news is when we hear something very distressing or how awful it is when it hits so close to home. Why do we react in that manner? Why must we blame God? Why do bad things happen to good people? Harold Kushner’s, When Bad Things Happen to Good People allows one to better understand why he wrote the book and his positive insight bringing light to a seemingly dark matter. Kushner is a Rabbi, a man of God, whom “spent most of his life trying to help other people believe, and was compelled by a personal tragedy to rethink everything he had been taught about God and God’s ways (p.3)”. Hence, it was difficult for Kushner to fathom why or how this could happen to him, his son, and his family. It is easy to sympathize with Kushner because we would probably have reacted in the same way if we were in his shoes. True, it seems unfair how bad things can happen to some, more than others, especially if one attempts to live a life led by God and believes in the goodness of the world, we ask, "how can God let this happen? Kushner contends that the main......

Are Guns a Good Thing or Bad Thing?

...Are Guns a Good Thing or a Bad Thing Melissa Cushman Vincennes University Jasper Campus English 102 Professor Mayfield 15 April 2013 Are Guns a Good Thing or Bad Thing? Have you ever wondered why the media never shows anything positive that happens due to guns? Guns have never gone off by themselves on purpose. There is always a living person pulling that trigger. The government keeps trying to take away our guns when the President himself has armed security guards for him and his family. People need to take a stand for what they believe in and fight for their rights! The government should perform more extensive background checks instead of just taking the guns away. Guns should not be outlawed because “guns do not kill people; people kill people”. There has been much debate in our country about gun control and whether or not it is necessary. The event that brought all of the debates to the surface was the Sandy Hook shooting that happened on December 14, 2012. Following this tragic event, the country gave political figures and the President of the United States a reason to push for more control on this issue. Some of the biggest problems facing the American people are confiscation, stricter laws, and 2nd Amendment rights (Madison, 2013). When rumors came out that the government wanted to confiscate all of the guns in the country people became outraged. The ones that do not own guns to begin with of course supported this rumor which ended up becoming...

Business Gone Bad

...Ashley Jackson Essay 2 Intro to Business 7/25/13 Starting and Operating a New Business In chapter 3 we learned all about starting up a business. We learned that there are a lot of key factors that go into starting a business. We also know that it may not always turn out successful. I found an article on bizjournals.com that talks all about the economy and entrepreneurship. It talks about how it’s been in the past and how it’s been since 2012. An entrepreneur is a businessperson who accepts both the risks and the opportunities involved in creating and operating a new business venture. The article states that entrepreneurship is on the rise again, but there is still one thing holding a lot of Americans back and that is the risk that the business may fail. If their business fails, it’s a big deal because the entrepreneur then just lost all the time and money they had put into the business. The article says that one in three Americans feel that fear that it will fail but that’s has moved from one in every four from 2008. We learned that a Business plan (which is a document in which the entrepreneur summarizes his or her business strategy for the proposed new venture and how the strategy will be implemented) is key when starting up your own business. Without a clear written out plan chances are slim that your business will succeed. In the article it talks about how 69% of small businesses rely on friends and family members to help start up the business and get it......

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

...about the money is an amazing feeling. About 60% of the people are able to buy anything they may need. This percent of people are many o f those who received an education. For the most part I believe having a better life is the best thing out there. Having all of the thing you want are what everyone wishes for,. Personally I believe spending your time to be able to get an education is worth it. It may seem boring but its is for your own good. In closing a better life is available if you receive an education. Finally, education also allows you to be a role model to many people. Your kids may look up to you as well as many others. For example, when you have your family your kids will be proud and want to be like you. You will be able to show many people that education is possible even for low class people. Personally I believe getting an education having been raised in a low income home may allow me to be a role model. About 90%of children look up to their parents in their lifetime. I would like to be a good role model to mine and take them down the good path. Anyone would be able to tell you education plays a major part on being a role model. Not just anyone can be a role model although there is an exemption. Being a role model makes you feel good about your decisions. I know I would like to be someone role model. Good or Bad

...There are many different thoughts that may come to mind when thinking of present day youth football leagues. A person from another state may think of kids building teamwork skills and their physical abilities, while a person from Texas may think of the gridiron, violent games expressed between these eight and nine year old players. Stefan Fatsis’s article “Rich Kids Are Soft, Poor Kids Need to be Together Up” uncovers the real, explicit experience these kids receive and how it affects them and their community, good or bad. In order to evaluate Fatsis’s article thoroughly, it is important to consider the use of rhetorical strategies and structure. One of the claims Fatsis makes is the “violent imagery” created in the coach’s speeches and the use of their vulgar language around the young players. The author uses the Esquire Network series, Friday Night Tykes (FNT) as his illustration to his readers, assuming the reader has watched the show. He uses the example “You have the opportunity, today, to rip their heads off and let them bleed” (pr.1) from the show, to represent the relationship being expressed between the coaches and players. He assumes he is showing his pathos at this point in the article and that attention of the readers is being grabbed. Another point of the article’s structure and stance involves the coach’s perspective between positive adult leadership and their vulgar, negative style on the field. One specific coach from the Outlaws explains how parents......

Is Divorce a Good or a Bad Thing?

...Is Divorce A Good Or Bad Thing? Introduction Divorce is defined as a marriage ending before any of the spouses die. According to dictionary.com, “divorce is a judicial declaration dissolving a marriage in whole or in part, especially one that releases the husband and wife from all matrimonial obligations.” Some countries in which divorce has become commonplace are the United States and South Africa. Divorce is not considered as big a deal today as it has been in the past. There has been an increase in divorce. Some people believe that the age of a child is an important factor in determining the impact divorce may have on a child (Beekman, 1986). Some also believe that, gender has an impact on the reaction to divorce on both children and parents (Whitton, Rhoades, Stanley, & Markman, 2008). Others believe that the impact divorce may have on parents is when they have less personal relationship commitment to their own marriage and are less confident in their own ability to maintain a happy marriage (Whitton, Rhoades, Stanley, & Markman, 2008). People may also believe that the communities that surround the family unit may be the cause of divorce (Wolfinger, 2005). One of the positive reasons for divorce is that women are becoming dependent and working in many different workforces (Jennifer, 2010). The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of divorce. In order to do this, the paper is divided in two sections. The first section will examine the...

Good Boss in Bad Economy

...Boss Good in a Bad Economy By RoBeRt I. Sutton ■ ■ ■ ■ How to Be a 130 Harvard Business Review | June 2009 | hbr.org Serge Bloch T hese are tough times for every boss I know. Fear and paranoia are running wild, not just in financial markets but in workplaces, too. A few weeks back a weary executive at a professional services firm told me how painful it had been to lay off 10% of his people and how he was struggling to comfort and inspire those who remained. When I asked a mutual friend, the CEO of a manufacturing firm, to “show some love” to this distressed executive, he jumped in to help – but admitted that he was wrestling with his own demons, having just implemented a 20% workforce reduction. It was not a coincidence to find two friends in such similar straits; few organizations seem to have avoided them. Good One Bad One

...C A.$£~ 3 Jack Brandon's initial idea has not panned out, and the cash is nearly gone. But he's got a new plan. Will you back him a second time? HBR CASE STUDY Good Money After Bad? by John W. Mullins From a rocky perch overlooking the sparkling lights of San Francisco, Christian Harbinson gazed across the bay to the hills above Sausalito. "There's nothing like a vigorous hike;' he thought, "to clear the mind before a crucial meeting:' It was a mild March evening, and the 35-year-old venture capitalist was reflecting on the recommendation he would have to make to his firm's investment committee the next morning about Jack Brandon's young company, Seven Peaks Technologies. Seven Peaks had developed an innovative device for cauterizing blood vessels during electrosurgery, and although the feedback from surgeons had been excellent, sales had been slow. The Palo Alto-based venture capital firm where Harbinson worked, Scharfstein Weekes, had invested $600,000 in Seven Peaks from its newly raised second fund of $100 million. SW's current investment strategy focused on early-stage medical technology companies, and Seven Peaks was a typical investment for the firm, which liked to get in on promising ideas modestly and then follow with additional rounds of capital after technological and market milestones had been met. The $600,000 was nearly gone; Harbinson and his colleagues had to decide whether to put more into the......

When Bad Things Happen to Good People

...When Bad Things Happen to Good People By: Harold Kushner Pablo Falcon Spring 2010 When Bad Things Happen to Good People Written by: H. Kushner “When Bad Things Happen to Good People” is a very personal book. The author talks about his belief in God and how people perceive the situations they get in as an act of God himself. The author explains that when unfortunate happenings occur people tend to blame it on God or the simple fact that the unfortunate happened because “the person must have deserved it”. The author also reflects upon the feelings that many people have when something bad happens to them or a loved one. They begin to question their faith. Why didn’t God answer my prayers? Is God real? What is God her for anyway? The main point the author illustrates is that the things that happen are not God’s doing. There is one point in the book that Kushner makes about how flight 205 crashed instead of flight 209. The plane crash caused people to die. God did not choose what families to afflict tragedy and pain on. If it was God’s choice he wouldn’t have had any of the planes crash. God gave flight 205’s families the courage to live on and look forward to the future. He did not cause the plane crash. Kushner says that, “Adam and Eve ate from the ‘forbidden tree’, also known as the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil”. Adam and Eve were given a test to see if they were going to be human or animal. Humans face choices. Animals have instincts. Adam and Eve......

Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

...People may often come across situations where a question regarding the suffering of good people becomes unavoidable. The Bible provides examples of the question through the suffering of Jesus Christ in his crucifixion, written in the book of John, as well as the trials placed on Job, where God tests his righteousness in the Old Testament. Although most of their losses are relatively the same, the purpose behind their stories are distinctly different from each other. Job, who unexpectedly witnesses his possessions being stripped from him, approaches his situation much differently than Jesus who acts more accepting of his situation. The idea of suffering may easily become intolerable, though these two major stories of Job and Jesus teaches individuals to have a deeper insight on how to deal with unbearable conditions. The suffering that both Job and Jesus face easily allows them to question their faith towards God for watching their pain to progress. The character of Job is introduced as a wealthy man with many possessions and described as “blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” (Job 1:8). Job is tested as he is stripped of his herd of animals, and his numerous children, causing him to grieve and still says, “The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.” (Job 1:20) In the second chapter, he is inflicted with physical pain from “the soles of his feet to the crown of his head” (Job 2:7). In comparison, Jesus’ suffering......

Religion: Good or Bad

...          Religion: Good or Bad Rev. 2  Leonardo Faye  Instructor: Allison Keating –Jones English 090 6/9/2012       It is a belief that religion is a good thing for people to be involved with.  Religion is intimately attached to people’s existence and because of that many bad things have happened. Religion had been used in the past as an instrument to create instability between people, cities and countries. So, my question to you is it, Do you think that people is good enough to be involved in religion? Although religion has been around since the human race put a foot on this mistreated planet, most of the complications began when people started to socialize. In the beginning, mankind used religion to worship what they could not understand, the Sun, the Moon, Stars and Comets between other things. However, time passed and men gained knowledge and started to understand how the universe works. So the Sun was not a good idol anymore, but they still had things that they did not understand. For example, where people come from? Why are people here? Is all this coincidence? Was it just the result of a random chemical accident? People needed an answer, and their discovered God. God was good because He was something that nobody could see or hear or talk to. He was out there somewhere. Some people asked Him for protection or wisdom when in need. They had a source of relief in Him, life was tough and He provided hope. And hope was a good thing. But, the problem was......

Good Intentions Gone Bad

...Good Intentions Gone Bad Ten Americans that are jailed in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti are pleading for the U.S. government to do more on their behalf and for the media to do less. These Americans who are affiliated with Baptist churches in Idaho went to aid Haitians after the Jan. 12 earthquake. They were arrested for trying to take 33 Haitian children to the neighboring Dominican Republic. The Americans claimed the children were orphaned but some of the children said they had parents. The Americans are charged with kidnapping and criminal association. The detainees worry that their arrest is taking focus from the quake disaster. American officials say they intend to let the Haitian justice system take its course and the Haiti prime minister is considering letting them be tried in the U.S. I feel that these fellow Americans had good intentions but took it to far. Just because the Haitian government is in crisis does not mean that the laws should be ignored. We have seen kids being allowed to come and get medical help in the U.S. legally. We’ve seen couples who were already in the adoption process being able to bring their children so it’s not like there were no other options. I feel that these Americans should be held accountable. I also feel that they knew what they were doing was wrong or they would have took them to an airport not try take them across the border to the neighboring Dominican Republic....
