IT.205

Prior to developing a substantial system solution, companies are expected to act accordingly when managing the project itself. The IT department for example faces the decision to implement a new CRM solution along with installing new hardware. By moving forward with the CRM application change, the IT department is putting itself at risk. With excellent project management and analysis, the development of new CRM applications and hardware can result in a low risk high gain production if managed accordingly. Throughout this paper I will discuss the analysis, which should be conducted through project management. I will discuss the five variables of the IT department’s project management which include scope, time, cost, quality, and risk as to how they relate to the department’s decision making with the new application launch. Points that should be considered prior to selecting projects for the best business value will also be discussed. I will then conclude this paper with the factors that influence project risk and what I believe can minimize them.
I will begin with the IT department scoping the project for what systems, applications, and tools will be used in this project. The company is considering to update its current CRM system which is not compatible with its corresponding out dated hardware. The department has to scope the tools necessary to support the new CRM application, which is up to date hardware. Project management should be mindful that the primary tool needed to fulfill this project is updated hardware along with CRM application training for end users to become familiar with the new systems and hardware. End users will not be familiar with the new applications and should be provided with the necessary information to utilize the new applications with ease.

...Hardware Replacement Project This paper is a discussion concerning the upcoming hardware replacement project that is rapidly approaching the IT department with the implementation of a new CRM into our existing infrastructure to replace the less efficient version that we have currently in place. To do this correctly an important factor regarding the hardware must be addressed first, which is the cause for this project. The equipment that is currently in place has to be improved to support the upgraded functions that we wish to utilize with the updated CRM system. To properly implement this transformation we have to address all of the main variables possible with proper project management. Project Management Project Management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to achieve specific targets within specified budget and time line constraints (Laudon, 2011). Within project management are these variables required for us to manage in order for us to complete a task like this successfully. The first variable that we must understand completely is the Scope, which defines the work that is or is not included in a project (Laudon, 2011). Understanding the scope is understanding what work will be required for the goal which is the proper implementation and function of the new CRM by upgrading the current IS infrastructure by replacing if necessary equipment that is deemed non-functional, obsolete, or incompatible with current operational standards or......

...Hardware Replacement Project NAME Axia College of UoP Hardware Replacement Project As the IT department begins to plan for and implement a new customer relationship management (CRM) solution in the corporate office, there are several variables that must first be thoroughly examined. The IT department must address the needs of the office, as well as the legacy hardware and software currently in use. It is apparent that current IT infrastructure will not support the introduction of a new CRM application. The legacy hardware currently in use is outdated require replacement. When implementing a hardware replacement project the IT department will use five major variables of project management that relate to the hardware replacement project. These five major variables of project management include scope, time, cost, quality and risk. Additionally, the IT department must consider what project deliver the best business value to the company. Finally, the risks of the project must be identified, and mitigation strategies must be developed to reduce the project’s risks. Project Management Project management activities require that the IT department properly plan the upgrade, assess the risk associated with the implementation of the project, determine the resources required for implementation, organizing the work, acquiring the materials, both human and materials, delegating tasks, directing the activities, controlling the project implementation, reporting the progress, and......

...Assignment Hardware Replacement Project The five major variables involved in this project are scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. These variables must be considered in any project actually, as they are the determining factors of success of the project or the failure of any project. One of the very first concerns regarding the project that must be scrutinized is the projects scope, meaning, everything that the project entails. Exactly what is to be included into the project and what is to be excluded. At the onset, this can be a general idea, but before long, it must become a specific quantity. The scope will be determined by studying what is happening now, and what needs to happen and what changes need to be made. A considerable amount of this information can be garnered from the employees who will be using the finished project, and from the upper echelon that need the ability to output the information that they require. The time that this project will take must also be taken into consideration, based on the customers’ needs. Some customers may have a very large time frame, whereas others may only have a limited time, such as in-between seasons, to implement a new system. We must also consider the changeover, or conversion time required, and the all-important task of the time involved in training the employees on the new system to avoid introducing new errors. Attempting to make the project overly complex is also a time related subject. It is easy to add items to the......

...HARDWARE Introduction The term computer hardware refers to the physical parts of a computer which by interconnection and synchronization make up the computer system. The hardware can be divided in two groups: parts that are found in the central unit – housing of the computer called components and external parts called peripheral units. There is a range of computer components, but we will mention the most important, explaining their function and role in the computer. We can point out the following basic elements of computer system: * Motherboard (mainboard) * Processor (CPU - central processing unit) * Memory (RAM - random acces memory) * Graphic Card * Audio Card (Sound card) * Hard Drive (HDD - hard disc drive) * CD-DVD ROM (Compact disc / Digital video drive-Read only memory) * Network card (LAN Adapter - locall area network adapter) * Modem (modulator-demodulator) * Power Supply (PSU - power supply unit) * Input-Output units (I / O) Each of the following elements have distinct and essential function and role in contributing to the work of the computer, depending on the quality and performance, hardware directly affects system performance. Preserving the compatibility of components is equally important as selecting the brand and quality. Each motherboard is not compatible with any graphics card, processor or memory, because there are different standards that are mostly defined by the manufacturer or are dictated by the...

Hardware Replacement Project

...Hardware Replacement Project IT/205 January 26, 2014 Instructor:Jerry Holt A customer relationship management system (CRM) is used by companies to determine whom their loyal customers are and what their needs and wants are. “CRM systems capture and integrate customer data from all over the organization, consolidate the data, analyze the data, and then distribute the results to various systems and customer touch points across the enterprise” (Laudon & Laudon, 2013, p. 275). This information helps the company get to know their customers. While larger companies may not be able to know each customer individually and on a more personal level to learn what their interests are, the data collected and analyzed using a CRM system, allows them to do something similar on a larger scale. This data helps a company determine what products their customers are purchasing most, or where higher amounts of money are being spent, as well as the cost of selling to each customer. Is it more costly to sell to a higher volume of newer customers, as opposed to a smaller volume of repeat customers? If a new customer’s information must be collected and documented to provide a service, it may be more costly to do so with a large volume of new customers, as opposed to a repeat customer, whose information is already stored. For this customer, a transaction is all that needs to be processed, saving both time and money. When a CRM becomes outdated or no longer fits the needs of the......

...Hardware Replacement Project Jeremy Nieves IT205 March 9, 2014 Dave Collie Hardware Replacement Project A hardware replacement project is a serious undertaking for a business to implement. It is essential that the project have proper management in order for the project to be a success. According to Laudon and Laudon (2013), “Project management refers to the application of knowledge, skills, tools, and techniques to achieve specific targets within specified budget and time constraints” (p. 389). This can be achieved if the five major variables of project management are followed; these five variables are, scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. If the business project managers closely follow the variables by utilizing knowledge and skills, the replacement of the hardware can go smoothly and efficiently. Scope is the variable where the project is defined by what work needs to be done, and what should be implemented within the entire project. In other words, scope should be planned before the project even begins, and done as the project progresses. It is the projects manager’s job to make sure the scope of the project is maintained and followed, to insure a successful completed project. The scope for the hardware replacement project would include what type of hardware is needed for the CRM programs that the organization wants to run, so the business can continue to grow and generate profit. The time variable is self explanatory, in which the project must be......

Information Technology & Replacement

...INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & RESOURCE REPLACEMENT Information Technology adheres to the CoC Technology Replacement Program that requires computer infrastructure components be replaced every three years. This document establishes the procedures regarding this program. The Technology Replacement Program (TRP) is designed to support the IT goals and objectives of achieving stable, predictable and reliable computers systems. This program ensures sufficient money is set aside to keep our computer infrastructure current, without the need to perform periodic, large-scale systems upgrades. The TRP is designed to level out the cost and disruption of upgrading major IT infrastructure over a 3-year period. Strategy: There are 3 distinct options for building the CoC infrastructure. Deciding on which strategy to employ depends on what needs to be accomplished with computer technology at the CoC. Analogy: Purchase a high performance sports car? Maybe an old used truck? More likely, a new Minivan? In terms of technology, we could be the defacto leader in city government relating to automated systems, despite the costs. Basically, technology for technology’s sake; it’s cool, so we need it. We could allow each city department to solve their own business problems using their own technology strategies, resources and methods. But perhaps to implement efficient and effective automated systems within acceptable business constraints is the optimal solution; basically, buy what you can......

...Chapter 1 Managing change Q1 Figure 1.76 shows how bad an implementation can become. Action needs to be taken to prevent this kind of situation. What would you recommend should be done? This model is about how badly wrong the development and implementation can become, but it applies equally to the imposition of change. The secret lies in preventing this situation from arising by • Making sure that everyone understands the reasons for the change • Has the opportunity to play a part in influencing the shape of the new situation or system • And doesn’t have to deal with so much change that there are no anchor points for those involved. Q2 You are the project manager for a new management accounting system that will provide monthly profit and loss accounts to a chain of 30 computer dealerships, each of which is franchised to its local owner/manager. They have all done their own accounting before. What change issues would you expect to encounter? Does the fact that they are PC dealerships make any difference? Why might they have joined together in the chain? Several change issues will arise; • the imperative to change? Why does the franchise owner want to impose this change – if indeed it is being imposed? • meeting the many and varied individual needs • the implementation process • the changeover process • post implementation support • the nature of the franchisee’s response and the resistance if any In principle,......

...hired by New Jersey department to do projects analysis. The project chosen is Project IHTRHU. Collection of data, detailed analysis, findings and conclusion method has been conducted in providing comprehensive report. However, some data is limited and assumptions are made for sensivity analysis purpose. There are three significant findings based on the scope management plan and financial analysis conducted. On the scope management plan, it has been found that the tracking and monitoring of performance report was lacking as expert advice was not consulted and project scope was not well defined. Findings revealed that among the three projects, Project IHTRHU is the best project due to highest positive NPV rates based on the financial analysis. The discussion analysis comprises IRR, discounted rate, hurdles rate, cash flow, inflation and interest rate for the sole purpose of investment returns. As observed the scope management plan is overall good. Recommendation for improvement on report and tracking performance can be enhanced in avoiding delay and mitigate risk. Also, various financial methods has been used to determine quick cash flow returns. Hardware Replacement Project

...Hardware Replacement Project Steven Royster IT/205 Matthew Juliana 25 March 2012 The IT department wants to replace their old CRM with a new CRM solution. The only problem is that their existing hardware is old and out of date thus will not support the new CRM. I have been called in to not only access the situation but to analyze what equipment will be needed and help install the equipment. This has to be done before the new CRM can be installed and implemented. Before all that can happen I first must come up with a report for the executives that talks about the five project management variables and how they relate to the upcoming project. I will also discuss what considerations should be thought about as to get the company the best value and what factors will influence the project risk along with how to keep those risks down to a minimal amount. In order to get the picture of how the new CRM will work out the five major variables of project management must be analyzed to see how they will fit in to the scenario. The five major variables are scope, time, cost, quality, and risk. Every one of these variables will play a role in this project so I will discuss each one: 1. Scope defines what work is or is not included in a project. For this particular project there will be a scope for new networking equipment as well as computer equipment to implement the new CRM. The borderline of the scope for the project must not be crossed because it can possibly mess up one of...

...Hardware Replacement Project Chad Barker 04/07/2012 IT 205 Joseph Coleman The IT department has chosen a new customer relationship management (CRM) for the business. The new hardware replacement project will have five major factors, which are time, quality, cost, scope, and risk. The CRM has many ways it can be setup to use the best technology for the best solution for the organization. Numerous issues can come up for risks with this type of project as well as innovative new strategies to reducing the risks involved with CRM projects like this one. Some of the best ways to prepare for and supervise the hardware replacement projects, and also a look of the processes involved. For project management these need to be considered: planning of the work, risk assessment, anticipated resources needed to complete the work, work organization, the material and human resources, task assignments, direction For the CRM, supervision of CRM implementation, the progression of the project, and examining of the negative aspects and benefits of the project. The CRM project includes five major factors for setting up a project, which are quality, costs, time, scope, and risk. (Laudon, & Laudon, 2011) For quality there needs to be a plan for the results when the project is completed whether the organization is happy with the outcome of the project. The goal of the final plan is to help improve the decision-making and performance, and then the CRM project will be a success for......

Goals of the Project: Bob’s Hardware Store uses regular cash registers to ring up their transactions, but would like to move up to using POS so they can also accept credit and debit cards, which will increase their customers. The IT team needs to develop a program so that the store can use POS. This will help make the accounting process easier. Another objective to the POS is to reduce the amount of time it takes to process customer purchases, such as the ability to use credit cards and other forms of payment, keeping track of sales, and generating supply orders. The POS can be linked in to employees bank accounts, which will help with payroll. The POS will be also run through their computer system which will help Bob and his wife to keep better track of cash flow and profit margins. The above objectives will help to reduce the amount of time needed for the many...
