Holiday

...During my last school holidays, I spent a few days at my cousin’s house at Morib, a well-known sea resort. I shall never forget that visit.  On the day I arrived at Morib, my cousin told me that he would do to make my stay there a very interesting one. He said that he would make a raft to use it in the sea. Then he would buy fishing net to catch some fish in the shallow water near the coast. When I heard all this, I was very delighted because it was one of the reasons that I had decided to visit my cousin. We then walked up to the beach which is near his house.  While we were there, sometime in the evening, the sea looked extremely beautiful. I saw the islands and hills in the distance, the birds in the air, and a few boys and girls playing on the beach. I also saw some fishermen coming out of the water with their catch. All this was indeed very interesting to look at.  On the next day, my cousin and I collected some tree trunks from the forest nearby. As my cousin’s house is close to the sea, we decided to make the raft on the beach itself. It took us almost the whole morning to make the raft. We then had our lunch and went to Banting, the nearest town, to buy fishing net. After that we returned to my cousin’s house.  In the evening we put the raft on the sea. The water was still high, but the raft floated quite well. My cousin and I sat on it and began to row it by using the oars that we had made ourselves. We felt very happy indeed and continued to row it. We......

...Roman Holiday PART 1 ROMAN HOLIDAY TRANSCRIBED BY Graham (hepburn@unforgettable.com) (A newsreel begins:) --PARAMOUNT NEWS-- NEWS FLASH (A commentator describes the newsreel showing Princess Ann at several ceremonies in various European locations.) NEWSREEL Paramount News brings you a special coverage of Princess Ann's visit to London, the first stop on her much publicised goodwill tour of European capitals. She gets a royal welcome from the British as thousands cheer the gracious young member of one of Europe's oldest ruling families. After three days of continuous activity and a visit to Buckingham Palace, Ann flew to Amsterdam where Her Royal Highness dedicated the new International Aid Building and christened an ocean liner. Then went to Paris where she attended many official functions designed to cement trade relations between her country and the Western European nations. And so to Rome, the eternal city, where the Princess' visit was marked by a spectacular military parade highlighted by the band of the crack Piersa Yeri Regiment. The smiling young Princess showed no sign of the strain of the week's continuous public appearances. And at her country's embassy that evening, a formal reception and ball in her honor was given by her country's ambassador to Italy. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (The Embassy ballroom. Holidays

...Holidays “All work and no play makes jack a dull boy” Just as water and food is necessary for our body similarly holidays are also important for a healthy mind and physique. They provide relief from monotony of our daily routine. They are important for our mental and emotional well being. They are not only meant for enjoying but also for pursuing our hobbies and interests. During holidays, leisure replaces work as a priority. You are filled with the enthusiasm to explore, travel and learn. There are no rules for getting up in the morning and going to school. We are our own rulers as we manage our time according to our own wish. We play, visit places, pursue our hobbies and are relaxed. Holidays bring back to us natural vigour and cheerfulness. They relieve us of mental worry. Holidays are essential for workers in every department of life. They enable us to resume our work with renewed zeal and energy. Rest is enjoyable when it follows hard and strenuous work and hard work becomes easy and enjoyable when it comes after holidays. Holidays donot mean idleness. They donot mean sleeping and gosssiping. Idleness is not a thing of enjoyment. It is the root cause of all sins and evils. It is truly said, “An idle man's brain is a devil's workshop”. Wish to explore nature is in everybody's heart and holidays are best time to fullfill this desire. God also encourage us to travel. Holy Quran says, “Travel through the earth and see how He began the creation” (29:20). During holidays......

Holiday

...Ariel O’Brien 10/23 Every once a year, someone always has that one tradition they like to do on a holiday. Well, mine so happens to be on Christmas. Every year on Christmas, my family and I like to play fun games after opening our presents and done having dinner. Some may have the same thing every year just like my family, but in my opinion, I don’t think it’s the actual same. My family and I like to be different every year. Even though we still buy each other gifts, there are some things we just buy for the fun games! Every year we try to come up with a new game, sometimes we play cards to win a gift. The fun about winning one of those gifts is that it’s not something that you expected, for example, a tissue box or maybe even a candle because it can be random. It’s the best to have a random gift because later on, we actually might just use it, which makes the fun out of the random gift. People also have their own types of recipes, mine so ever tries different things every year because my family and I like to switch up things every once in awhile and try something new. We usually look up recipes in a cook book or the internet and would bring it to each other’s houses. My family and I like to try new things every year because we wouldn’t want to get bored with the same thing every year something new is also exciting! My family and I also like to visit each other’s houses so we wouldn’t get bored going to the same one house every year. Before......

Holidays and Celebrations

...Holidays and Celebrations The book “All Around the Year” by Jack Santino is about the holidays and celebrations in America and how different decorations have different meanings. It follows the change of the seasons and the holidays that fall during those times. The books starts off by telling the reader that everyone views holidays differently and that everyone has their own celebrations besides the main ones like Thanksgiving and Christmas. We have anniversaries and birthdays, ethic holidays and occupational celebrations. Depending on how you were raised and what religion you are decides some holidays you choose to celebrate or ignore and how you would decorate for the time of year. Chapter two is about holiday symbols and meaning. It talks about the kitchen being the center of the house, it is always decorated to go along with the seasons and the food that is created and baked to feed the family throughout the year. There are colors that represent different times of the year and you will always find the warm colors of changing seasons in the kitchen because the woman is customarily in charge of it. It talks about when they start decorating for different holidays and how long it will be before they come down. Neighbors compete against each other to have the most elaborate or most creative decorations for the holidays. It is a never ending battle to have the best of everything. Chapter three is about the winter and spring months. Winter has the shortest days and......

This gesture has now turned to giving gifts to our family and friends. The holiday season of 2014 is shaping up to be a prosperous year for retailers. With an estimated 4% increase in holiday sales compared to 2013 and consumer confidence is at its highest because of lower unemployment, higher wages, salaries, and disposable income. Consumers this holiday season are expected to spend approximately $804 on gifts. Along with lower gas and energy prices, consumers are more likely to spend more this holiday than the last on gifts like Disney Frozen Snow Glow Elsa Doll, Apple iPhone 6, and jewelry. Key promotions like Wal-Mart’s price matching policy, Kmart’s layaway service, USPS delivery service schedule hours expansion, the holiday season looks to be headed in a positive way. There are other ways to improve this holiday seasons like online retailers providing free shipping on all purchases or discounting newer products instead of outdated items. Holidays

...During the holidays, we had plenty of time to do whatever we wanted. Some may apply for part-time jobs whereas others may be busy with their own CCAs. As for me, I went to participate in different marathon volunteering work. I volunteered for different races such as, Sundown Marathon, Great Eastern Women Run and the SGX Bull Charge Run. During different runs, I gained new experiences and realized that working and organizing such runs may not be an easy task and it requires a lot of team work to get this moving smoothly. At the end of the SGX Bull Charge Run, we were told to help disperse the crowd at the floating platform of Marina Bay as the event is over. Two aunties came up to me and told me they did not manage to use a single coupon as they came back too late. They asked me to allow them to join in the last queue at the Ice-Cream booth so that they could at least use two of their coupons. Taking pity on them, I reluctantly allowed them even though I had instructions not to allow anyone to queue anymore. After that, another two ladies came up to me and requested for the same thing, only they wanted to finish using two of their coupons. While my friend heard the conversation, she came up to the two ladies and told them no. My friend rolled her eyes at the two ladies which resulted them getting into an argument. I stepped in and explained to the two ladies while my friend went to cool off. I told them that we are not supposed to let anyone queue anymore and after a long......
