Hostel Life

...the life in a hostel. At home one has to live as other members of the family live. Elders are always there to check the activities of youngsters. One cannot even frame one's own timetable of studies. One has to keep in mind the convenience of others. One has to study while others keep on talking and gossiping. Often one room, one kerosen lantern or lamp is used jointly by two or three brothers and sisters. If some relative or guest comes in, the whole programme of studies is upset. In fact, at home there is no atmosphere for serious studies. There is constant disturbance due to one reason or the other. The life in a hostel is different from that of the home. The greatest blessing of hostel life is independence. You may sleep whenever you like. You may get up late in the morning but none will question you. Apart from the general rules and regulations, which are to be followed necessarily by every one, one is his own master. It is due to this reason that many students do not like to go home even in long vacations. Those who love freedom, love the hostel life In hostel, life is full of opportunities of amusement. One is constantly in touch with young men of one's age. One can make friends with one's hostel fellows who have varied tastes and aptitudes. He may choose his friends according to his own liking. Mutual discussions of their favorite film actors and actresses, long criticism of the latest picture seen by them, and story-telling, add charm to hostel life. Good......

Hostel Management

...Hostels provide budget oriented, sociable accommodation where guests can rent a bed, usually a bunk bed, in a dormitory and share a bathroom, lounge and sometimes a kitchen. Rooms can be mixed or single-sex, although private rooms may also be available. Hostels are generally cheaper for both the operator and the occupants; many hostels have long-term residents whom they employ as desk clerks or housekeeping staff in exchange for free accommodation. In a few countries, such as the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, India, Nigeria and Australia, the word hostel sometimes also refers to establishments providing longer-term accommodation (often to specific classes of clientele such as nurses, students, drug addicts, court defendants on bail) where the hostels are sometimes run by Housing Associations and charities. In the rest of the world, the word hostel refers only to properties offering shared accommodation to travelers, students or backpackers. In this research work “hostel allocation management system”, a system will be design to manage a database for allocating hostel to students. The system designed will keep track of all the available rooms, their occupants and fund generated from hostel fee. The new system will be implemented using Visual basic 6.0 and access database. Chapter One Introduction 1.1 Background of the Study In 1912, in Altena Castle in Germany, Richard Schirrmann created the first permanent......

DIMITROV, PhD, Associate Professor, Faculty of Tourism and Business logistics, Goce Delcev University, Stip DEJAN METODIJESKI, PhD, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Tourism and Business logistics, Goce Delcev University, Stip A REVIEW OF THE HOSTEL SECTOR IN THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA Definition and historical development of hostels The hostel can be defined as a facility that provides clean, neat, affordable accommodation for young people who travel in their own country or abroad, individually or in groups, for educational purposes or vacation (Bhatia, 2002). These are places where young people from a different social status and nationality meet, places for recreation and friendship. In the hostel, guests often pay for a single bed rather than a room, share a common bathroom, living room and kitchen. It is intended for particular segments of the tourism market, such as young people (Medlik, 2003). Hostels can offer additional services such as food, information, etc. They are mainly located in city centers or near train stations and public transport facilities (Heyns et.al, 2000). The hostel industry, as we know it today, began to develop in 1907, when Richard Schirrmann, a teacher from the small town of Altena in Germany, decided to adapt one of the empty classrooms for an accommodation and overnight stay for students. This idea was not entirely unique, as inns and taverns in Austria already......
