HRE 2723 – FINAL PAPER TEMPLATE (revised)
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PLAN

You are to answer the following questions:
1 – What is your definition of leadership after completing this course? I believe that my general view of leadership has not changed over this course, however, before I had a very vague concept of what leaders do and how they act but not an in-depth perspective of the exact characteristics that they possess and how they use them to better themselves as well as their followers. Through this course I have been able to see how different people view leadership and the strengths and ethics that people feel are essential for the people to be successful leaders. This course has been very beneficial for me as a leader for several reasons, however, I feel that my biggest growth came from the section in emotional intelligence and the importance it has in leadership. This is a concept that I had never given enough focus on and would be important for any leader to be prosperous. After completing this course my overall understanding of a leader has grown into having a true concept of what a leader is as well as what a leader does. Prior to this class I believed that managing and leading were synonymous and that a manager is automatically considered a leader. However, I have learned that a leader is not someone who just checks things off a list but much more. I still believe that a leader is someone that completes tasks and has managerial skills to get the job done but also can be much more influential. I believe that good leadership in any field will make the people involved much more productive and will overall have a greater impact on overcoming adversity. After concluding this class I believe that leadership can be defined as influencing people to complete the tasks they are confronted with while thoroughly giving them motivation and guidance. With this I…...

...Nicholas Duffel Section A Motherly Leadership Leaders can have a direct bloodline effect on people in their lives, especially mothers. This leader in my life happens to be Laura Landreneau, my mother. My mother has been sculpted into a great leader that has also shaped the lives she has influenced. During her early years, she enlisted within the Army as a nurse stationed in Ft Sam Houston. From her first days at Basic Training, she showed her skills as a leader from leading formations to becoming her Basic Training Platoon Leader. After her years within the service, she moved onto regular practice of nursing and became a mother of three children down the road. She brings what she learned as a leader to the table of being a mother and she uses her motherly skills learned to amplify her skills as a leader. She was chosen for this paper because of how she incorporates her character within all aspects of her life, career, family, friends, and community. Chapter 1 – The Nature and Importance of Leadership Laura says that through her years as an experienced nurse you must be that leader to those who are new and less equipped as her self. “Experiences you share builds that rapport within the work place with both your co-workers above you and at that same level as you.” Decisions have to be made sometimes in very quick instances depending on the severity of the case. Sometimes these decisions can be life saving as a nurse. This applies to students that sometimes decisions may...

Harvard Graduate Case Analysis

...Situation: Harvard University owns a huge property which is not developed in Allston, across the Charles River and most of it in the University campus. The main motto of the Allston initiative is to focus on the growth of number of students who can rent these undeveloped properties from Harvard. The mission of HRES now is to create and design a survey by drawing lessons from a 2001 survey. These lessons will deliver information which helps in deciding on how well these undeveloped properties can attract Harvard students and how well they will be able to compete with the private homes. Problem: The challenge for HRES is on how to create and design a campus housing survey for graduate students that optimizes an equilibrium of price, locality and community space. It is also very difficult to foresee and predict future desirable homes by using a current student survey. Analysis: The capability of getting a high response rate is the key challenge for HRES survey. However the 2001 survey has a few pros and cons which are as follows: The survey leaves a first impression that it is too long, though it is rationally perfect. The aim of the survey was to include each and every situation, but it becomes very specific and comparatively takes more time than “20 minutes” as mentioned in the survey instrument. For questions which are too specific and particular to answer, students should concentrate more, read those options carefully and check the difference. For instance the question......

The Regency Hotel Case Study

...------------------------------------------------- Case Assignment 2 The Regency November 7, 2015 Michelle Archibald HRES 1101 November 7, 2015 Michelle Archibald HRES 1101 Case Assignment #2 One of Bangkok Thailand’s most prestigious hotels, The Regency, was established 15 years ago and was operated by a Thai General manager for the entire time. The hotel was sold to a large American hotel chain. When this was announced the current General Manger of the hotel decided to retire early leaving an open position which was filled by an American named John Becker. John Becker believed in the empowerment of employees. He believed that all employees should be empowered to make decisions to the best of their ability to ensure the satisfaction of their guests needs. He was very successful running hotels in America this way, and expected The Regency to be just as successful. This is not however how the hotel was run by the previous management. After Becker introduced this new policy to the hotel, the management seemed to have a mixed reaction to these changes, though no one protested it. Becker also asked that the employees and managers not come to him for minor problems, and to try and resolve them on their own. This request proved to be more difficult for the staff than Becker anticipated, for they found it hard to distinguish a minor problem from a major one. Becker began to get frustrated with the staff and the amount of times they would come to him with problems. ......

Leadership

...Julie Jackson Leadership Development Plan HRE 2723 5 January 2011 You are to answer the following questions: Leadership Development Plan 1 – What is your definition of leadership after completing this course? This course has taught me a great deal about how to be a better leader. My definition of leadership is having the ability to express a strong passion and knowledge for one’s beliefs. One must stand strong in their convictions in order to maximize a group’s strengths and to hinder their weaknesses. I also believe that the only way to be a great leader is to lead by example. No one wants to follow someone that they cannot trust. Leaders must gain respect from their followers. The easiest way to do this is for one to lead by example. 2 – For this section, you are to set a specific leadership goal for yourself in the next 12 months. This could be a position of leadership, a leadership role, or a leadership initiative you want to undertake. It can be in any context—your work, community, student organization, sports team, etc. Within the next year, I will be working at the Baton Rouge Speech and Hearing Foundation. As part of my communication disorders major, I will be participating in this clinic to better prepare myself for future endeavors as a Speech Language Pathologist in a school system. I will be starting off working with another classmate by helping autistic children develop their communication. We...
