The reasons are as follows: 1. Current Ratio – The purpose of the current ratio is to assess a private nonprofit human service agency’s liquidity. Current Ratio is important because it allows the agency to make sure they are not facing any liquidity problems. Liquidity means the extent to which the agency has cash and other assets readily convertible into cash to cover current operating expenses. 2. Contribution Ratio – The purpose of the contribution ratio is to assess the agency’s dependency on its major revenue source. Contribution ratio is important because it ensures the financial viability of the agency. 3. Program Expense Ratio – The programs/expense Ratio means that a private non-profit human service agency should spend a minimum of 60 percent of its total expenses for programs. It is important to meet this standard in order to help donors make an informed decision. 4. Hsm 260 Week 2 Ch 1

...1) Accrual accounting “means that transactions are recognized (recorded) when revenues are earned and when expenses are incurred” (Martin, 2001) the text explains accrual accounting provides a more complete financial picture of a human service agency. 2) Cash method accounting “means that transactions are recognized (recorded) only when cash is received (when revenues are actually received) and only when cash is paid out (when expenses are actually paid)” (Martin, 2001). The text explains that this method is often used, but is not the most accurate method that should be used in a human service agency. 3) A: Recorded using accrual method “Accrual accounting means that transactions are recognized (recorded) when revenues are earned and when expenses are incurred” (Martin, 2001) Accrual accounting gives a human service agency more information and less room for mistakes to be made. B: Recorded using cash method “Only cash in and cash out transactions are recognized (recorded) under cash accounting” (Martin, 2001) when a human agency uses cash accounting it leaves more room for mistakes to be made because not always will all the information be accurate. 4) Revenue recorded equal the cash received, from my understanding of the text that in accrual accounting all revenue earned and expenses are recorder, and in cash accounting then the cash is recorded so I would answer the question as no accrual accounting revenue recorded is not equal to cash received. 5) Statement of......

Hsm 220 Week 2

...HSM/220 External environmental factors are everything that is outside of the organization that helps it to operate effectively. The four external environmental factors are Economic, Sociological, Technological, and Political and Professional. Economic factors have to do with income and funding, and of course not forgetting the competitors. Sociological factors have to do with the target population. This determines what groups the organization will focus on. Target populations range from children, teenagers, and adults. Technological factors have to do with new technology and the need to stay up-to-date as well as keeping track of new ways to help people. Political and professional factors have to do with the laws and competitors, or people and business’s that they can work with. The six internal factors are made up of the organizations vision, mission, goals, culture, beliefs, and products. The organizations vision helps set goals and keeps the employees focused on the future. The mission statement outlines the organizations purpose and who they are. Goals are set up to motivate employees to strive for their best and the best of the organization. Culture has to do with how the vision of the organization will be carried out based on their values. Beliefs are the values of the organization, these values help to motivate. The products are the services which help to meet all of the organizations factors. The......

...Final Project: Analyzing Financial Statements Joyce Davis HSM 260 December 2, 2012 Final Project: Analyzing Financial Statements Financial statements provide a nonprofit human service, with a detailed account of financial records that shows how the company finances are managed. A financial statement provides the company with records that show how their finances were handled in the past. It also allows a company to look at where the company is heading financially. It is very important that a company evaluate their financial statements. In doing this the company will be aware of changes that need to be fixed in the budget. This can prevent an agency from going under. It will also permit them to continue provide services to the needy within the society. The XYZ Corporation provides psychiatric counseling to the indigent in El Paso Texas. The writer will provide a detailed financial analysis of the corporation’s finances. Hsm 260 Week 9 Short Answer

... Week 9: Short Answer Question HSM/260 Why is it important for a human service professional to be familiar with financial management? Provide at least two examples that illustrate your point. A human service professional will deal with several aspects of the human service industry including the financial area. It is very important for a human service professional to have knowledge of financial management even if it is not his/her job role, title or responsibility. Having knowledge of the financial management allows a human service professional to make decisions or judgments which is in the best interest for the human service agency financially. It is vital for all staff to become familiar with the agency’s financial goals; therefore the service provided by the agency’s staff can be performed with everyone on the same accord financially. Everyone can understand the need for adjustments in areas of weakness; including layoffs, salary decrease and or any cost-cutting measures that is needed in order for the organization/agency to meet its financial obligations. It takes knowledge to understand how vital the financial aspect is to the organization and ensuring all staff has the knowledge of financial management and goals is very essential. Each individual at one point may need to step up and fill a position or make an executive decision; therefore if someone is terminated, becomes ill, or sudden death the agency can continue to run smoothly without taking any losses and the......
