Theme: “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing!”

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2: 9-10

“But as it is written, eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the hearts of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.”

Subject: “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing!” (I wish I had two people in the house this morning who would high five somebody and tell them, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing!”)

• Yeah, yeah, when the windows of heaven are opened and it’s my time to reap; I don’t want to miss a thing!

I. Introduction:

1. Some of you will remember the popular movie, “Armageddon” which arrived in theaters nationwide in 1998, starring Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck.

a. The hit song from the sound track for the movie was performed by a group called “Aerosmith” which featured a young man named Steven Tyler, recently well-known for being a judge on American Idol.
b. This song was entitled, “I don’t want to miss a thing.”
c. The song says, “I don’t want to close my eyes, I don’t want to fall asleep because I’d miss you girl and I don’t want to miss a thing.”

2. Come on saints, stop looking at me like a cow looking at a new gate, you all weren’t born saved!

3. But as I read from our Paulinian text this morning, the words from this song begin to take on new and spiritual meaning.

a. For I heard the old preachers say, “serving the Lord will pay off after while.”
b. Not only that but I heard John the Revelator record that Jesus said, “And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” (Revelation 22: 12)
c. And I don’t know about you but when God performs his promises in me, “I don’t want to miss a thing.” (High five two people and tell them, “I don’t want…...

These Things I Know

...These Things I’ve Learned…. If you really stop to watch….stop to listen and take in the moment, you realize how fast the world is moving around you. You also realize that you have missed a million moments by (personally) moving--just as fast as that world. As cliché as it may sound, I blinked and I was 18 years old, I blinked and I was 30, and I blinked and now I am 50. That is how fast it feels. I swear my children were just born….but suddenly, they are adults. It feels like just yesterday that I was a young woman able to raise a child, work full time and take a night class all at once with ease, and now I’m a grandma with a good few aches and pains, looking at retirement plans. Very rarely do we think about our life’s purpose or reflect on the big picture when we are growing up or even when we are in our 20’s or 30’s. I’m sure it happens at different ages for different people…maybe some never do, I don’t know. I believe I started “getting it” when I was in my 40’s. By this…I mean that I truly realized what was important in life and what not to sweat about. Losing family members had a lot to do with it. It was hard enough when I lost Grandma and Grandma ...parents are security blankets that are very, very hard to lose. But when Uncle Bob died…I felt a major change in my soul. It was as if I’d been on a spinning top my whole life and then it just stopped. Everything was suddenly right there in front of me to deal with…think about, from my......

Did I Miss Something

...Did I Miss Something? What I believe he is trying to claim according to the story he just wrote. He is claiming that he cannot fail to accept the fact that divorce has left him with certain scars. With those types of scars it cannot be done away so easily. In the story he says that he has lived a good life by sharing time to time between his two parents but him thinking about it, he feels that something is a miss by this. It may not be something evident as many others in cases experience by others; this is, is own point of view we still have to remember. If I have to say where he would be stating his claim at, I guess it would be the third paragraph of his story. From my experience from a divorce family it’s hard to say for me because I’ve been somewhat like a loner type and keeping to myself about many things and not telling people this and that but again not many ask about it in the first place and it is bad because that child can hear the fight between the two all the time and it can mess up the kid as to how he or she grows up but that’s just my somewhat point of view. I guess that the evidence Putnam is trying to base it on with some solid ground, is the vague memory of his younger years with the fight between his two parents which many kids should not see or hear. He then states that being upstairs in the hallway in the state Philadelphia at home of course, he starts to remember seeing shadows. Those types of shadows start to move back and forth and with the voices...

I Want You

...I WANT YOU FOR THE U.S. ARMY!” Now, what would you do if someone were to ask you this? Or if you seen it out in town on a poster? Would you pay any attention to it or just walk on by? Most people would honestly just walk on by, unless, there was something in that particular poster that had caught their attention. Recruiting ads have changed over the years, but this one was popular. This particular recruiting advertisement was an effective argument because of their slogan, Uncle Sam, his stare, his point, and the use of America’s colors; red, white, and blue. I would say this particular recruiting image was for men or boys. Back then it were only the men or boys who could actually join the army. So, this poster excluded any women and girls because they were not allowed to join. The main targeted audience for this was for the younger men and boys, and for more than one reason. The younger they are, the more apt they are to be healthier. The army wants them to be younger because they can move more quickly and act upon things faster than someone who is older. They also want the men who don’t already have a family started because then they won’t have that worry while out in battle and can focus better on what they need to do. Where is the place where you see most advertisements for things? Out in town, right? This image was more than likely posted out in town on public buildings as well, that is where most of a town’s population goes for many different reasons. Having it out......

Things Guys Should Not Do If They Don't Want Her as a Wife

...9 Things Guys Shouldn’t Do If They Don’t Want To Marry Her Women can be hard to read, but guys are pretty skilled at giving ladies mixed messages too. Like when a guy acts like he’s into a lady, when really…he’s just not that into at all. Here are things ladies wish men wouldn’t do when they clearly have no intentions of making them their wives or girlfriends. 1. Do not be ambiguous about what she is to you. If you only like her as a friend, refer to her as your friend in front of her. 2. Do not pay for her meals. It’s a really sweet gesture. But if you don’t fancy her in a romantic way at all, then split the bill. Because after all, you’re just friends. Do you pay for all of your friends’ meals? No. 3. Do not ask a lady about the type of guy she likes. This will make her think you’re curious to know if you fit what she’s looking for in a man. Thus, making her think you are interested. 4. Do not talk to her all the time. Don’t call and/or text her every day. This makes it seem like you’re thinking about her all the time, which can be translated into something more. 5. Do not spend one-on-one time with her after a group hangout. This makes a lady think you want to extend your time spent together, which then makes her think you really, really like spending time with her. And that can make her think you have romantic feelings for her. Just go your separate ways after a group hang-out. 6. Do not hold her hand. Just don’t. Sure, friends hold hands but not all the...

I Read It but I Don't Get It

...I read it but I don’t get it[1] The title of my article is a title of a book by Cris Tovani but more of that later! I want to explore why I feel that Ken Rowe’s literacy report misses the complexity of literacy development in young people– at least from my secondary perspective. Of course he covers some bases and on the surface suggests a balanced approach. He is also right that teachers need to be better educated about reading practices. However, the emphasis on phonics which has been widely reported in the media appears disproportionate to its usefulness. Some students can manage to read and spell without phonics so why do we need to occupy their brains with phonemes or phonic practices. Others need them. The informed primary teacher differentiates accordingly. What Ken Rowe does not focus on is the literacy needs of young people in secondary schools where decoding is less of a problem than comprehension. For many students reading is meaningless – particularly fiction. The Four Resource Model of Allan Luke and Peter Freebody[2] outlines what students need to do as they read: Effective literacy draws on a repertoire of practices that allow learners, as they engage in reading and writing activities, to: • break the code of texts: recognising and using the fundamental features and architecture of written texts including: alphabet, sounds in words, spelling, conventions and patterns of sentence structure and text • participate in the......

I Want a Wife

...Essay) JUDY BRADY I Want a Wife (1971) Judy Brady’s essay became an instant classic when it appeared in 1971 in the premier issue of the feminist magazine Ms. As you read, analyze the definitions of “husband” and “wife” that Brady uses, and consider why this essay became so powerful in the 1970s. I belong to that classification of people known as wives. I am A Wife. And, not altogether incidentally, I am a mother. Not too long ago a male friend of mine appeared on the scene fresh from a recent divorce. He had one child, who is, of course, with his ex-wife. He is looking for another wife. As I thought about him while I was ironing one evening, it suddenly occurred to me that I, too, would like to have a wife. Why do I want a wife? I would like to go back to school so that I can become economically independent, support myself, and, if need be, support those dependent upon me. I want a wife who will work and send me to school. And while I am going to school I want a wife to take care of my children. I want a wife to keep track of the children’s doctor and dentist appointments. And to keep track of mine, too. I want a wife to make sure my children eat properly and are kept clean. I want a wife who will wash the children’s clothes and keep them mended. I want a wife who is a good nurturant attendant to my children, who arranges for their schooling, makes sure that they have an adequate social life with their peers, takes them to the park, the zoo, etc. I want a wife who......

...This is a test. I am trying to get some help with some of my work. I started school late and now I have been playing catch up. I came across this website and it seemed that I could use this website as a helping point in which I can look and refer to what ever I was doing at that time. Now, being that I have seen some of the articles that has graced your website, I would like to become a member because this seems like a good point of reference for me. So, in order to use the full capabilities of this website, I need to download a document. Now, at this present time, I have no documents to upload. So I will upload this so I can become a member and be able to utilize this website as my personal reference when I need it. In the near future, I plan to upload some of my work in order to satisfy this upload trial that I am being forced to upload just to become a member. So far, this website has helped me out greatly and I am hoping that once this group of words will be sufficient enough to allow me access to this site. Like I said earlier, this site will only be used as a reference due to some of the essays and assignments were done by students that were doing it before me. For all I know, their info may be wrong. That’s why I trust no work other than my own. Like I said before, this site will only be used as my reference. Thank you ....

Before I Die I Want to

...Before I die I want to... Before I die I want to be able to do many things that I want to do but I will only highlight a few that I really would like to be able to focus on. One thing that I want to be able to do before I die is to be able to live happy and relaxed for a long period of time. Another thing that I would want to be able to do before I die is to travel to a few different countries or even states for example in particular South Korea and maybe London. Something else that I would want to be able to accomplish before I die is to be at the top position possible at a job in the IT field or some computer related position. Lastly before I die I would like to be able to live life without regrets. The reasoning behind me wanting to be able to live a happy and relaxed life is because ever since I got into high school I don’t think have been living constantly happy life, and I have defiantly not been able to be relaxed because I picked up a job that I almost work every day and have lots of things I have to constantly worry about especially now that I’m in college, and my grades really matter to me now and hoping that I will be able to do well in my classes. Another reason that I would want to live happily is because living happy can help your life span so If I continue on living stressed out and worried about things every day I feel like it can affect my health in the long term, I feel like being able to live worry free would be such a good feeling. I really......

I Don't

...Problem 3 Now I will explain why the NPVs of these two approaches are different. For Approach A, NPV is calculated using cash flows denoted in Peso and interest rate in Mexico and then transferred into Euro at the lowest exchange rate in 2008, which is 15.99 MXN/EUR. This is equivalent to using a constant exchange rate of 15.99 to transfer Peso into Euro every year. On the other hand, for approach B, cash flows are transferred into Euro every year and NPV is calculated using cash flows denoted in Euro and interest rate in France. Since Peso is depreciating across time, cash flows are transferred into Euro using a series of increasing exchange rates. Cash flows in Approach B are lower than those in Approach A. Therefore, NPV denoted in Euro for Approach B is higher than that for Approach A. Problem 4 If the inflation in Mexico is 3%, which is the same as that in France, the nominal interest rate in Mexico will be the same as that in France according to International Fisher Effect. So the discount rate will be the same. According to the Interest Rate Parity, the exchange rate between these two currencies will stay the same due to the same nominal interest rate. Thus, the cash flows denoted in Euro for these two approaches will be same. Since both cash flows and discount rate are the same for these two approaches, NPV will be the same. You can see the calculations in this spread sheet. Both approaches give you the same NPV if both countries have the same inflation rate. ...

I Don't Speak White

...Pathos Positioned Research Paper: Language Identified with Race and Minority “I Don’t Speak White” Written by Kendra Alexander Your language is your identity; the way you speak depends on your environment and the people surrounding you. Race and ethnicity are not huge factors in the way one expresses themselves. While some associate certain slang verbiage with the African American race, each ethnicity and race have their own “slang” or abbreviations they use. The way we communicate within our social groups connects us to one another. Edward Sapir, in Language: an Introduction to the Study of Speech, stated “Language is the most massive and inclusive art we know, a mountainous and anonymous work of unconscious generations.”  Every culture creates their own language, they find a way to clarify themselves amongst each group, whom is to say one language is better than the other. Negative connotations can be placed on the way one speaks due to their background, or ethnicity. If a minority person speaks “well”, along with these negative race connotations, the person is then seen as acting as though they are the “superior” race. Language can connect us, but it can also segregate our defined cultures. Language and behavior tend to be associated with race, class, and popularity. The connotations of language and race create the “acting white” phenomenon showing that basic stereotypes still exist unrealized or unnoticed, and not only affect social aspects of a person’s life......

Idk - I Don't Know

...propagandizing, which Orwell portrays as one example of how the elite class abuses language to control the lower classes. Although the slogan seems to help the animals achieve their goal at first, enabling them to clarify in their minds the principles that they support, it soon becomes a meaningless sound bleated by the sheep (“two legs baa-d”), serving no purpose other than to drown out dissenting opinion. By the end of the novel, as the propaganda needs of the leadership change, the pigs alter the chant to the similar-sounding but completely antithetical “Four legs good, two legs better.” 2. Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland, Beasts of every land and clime, Hearken to my joyful tiding Of the golden future time. These lines from Chapter I constitute the first verse of the song that Old Major hears in his dream and which he teaches to the rest of the animals during the fateful meeting in the barn. Like the communist anthem “Internationale,” on which it is based, “Beasts of England” stirs the emotions of the animals and fires their revolutionary idealism. As it spreads rapidly across the region, the song gives the beasts both courage and solace on many occasions. The lofty optimism of the words “golden future time,” which appear in the last verse as well, serves to keep the animals focused on the Rebellion’s goals so that they will ignore the suffering along the way. Later, however, once Napoleon has cemented his control over the farm, the song’s revolutionary nature......

I Want.............

...It happened nearly two decades ago in Japan. Just as they did in the U.S., home prices in Japan doubled nationally in ten years and tripled in large cities like Tokyo. And then they began to fall. When the bubble burst in Japan, it forced the country into a lengthy recession. The main reason Japan was not able to pull out quickly was because the Japanese government did not act quickly during the boom years, Japanese banks made money hand over fist. Unfortunately, most of the money they made was a direct result of bad loans. (Sound familiar?)The kicker is that the Japanese government knew what was going on, but rather than call the banks on their bad loan practices, they played a waiting game, hoping the banks would somehow be able to work things out and replace the losses caused by the bad loans. 3 Of course, some people may argue that our government would never knowingly allow banks to fill their books with bad loans at the expense of the American people, but the fact is that is exactly what our government did. It became obvious to everyone some time ago that the housing bubble had grown out of control due in part to a lending bubble . Rather than discourage the use of creative financing and predatory lending practices, the government actually encouraged it.In 2004 Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan stated that......

I Want to Live

...I Want To Live Life What do you think of when you hear the word marriage? When I hear that word, I think of two people so in love that they want to spend the rest of their lives together. They want to raise a family in a big house with a white picket fence and live happily ever after. Lets be real, statistics show that 40-50% of marriages will end in divorce. I don’t know about you, but those odds aren’t really in my favor. So when I look at it all there are just to many disadvantages to marriage. Getting married is such a hassle, why would anyone want to. You have to deal with wedding planners, flower arrangements, guest lists and etc. Theirs just to much to put into getting married your already stressing yourself out before you actually get into the marriage. Lets not forget about the things you have to give up. Such as, you aren’t able to take risks. The way I see it, life involves risks. Some that betters you off and some that bites you in the butt and set you back. From experience with me when I fall or get set back, I get up and take another risk and move on. I think taking risks are fine, as long as you’re the one who suffers from the setbacks. You can’t take those chances with another person’s life, health; money and future are in your hands. It would be a pretty selfish thing to do. To me marriage means your keeping the best interest of two people in mind at all times. Yeah, it might keep you from going to jail or other stupid moves, but it might also hold......
