1.0 INTRODUCTION ABOUT SCHOOL RESOURCE CENTRE (SRC)

School library and library staff are important resources for the classroom teacher in connecting students with books and other reading materials. Library staff offers variety of services to teachers in order to support student reading.

Library staff can help students find books that match with their interests and reading levels. Besides, they provide other reading-related services such as offering reading promotions and other reading-focused activities. In addition, they provide service of adding new titles to the library in response to teacher and student recommendations and promoting books to students through book talks, book clubs, reading aloud to the classes, and providing lists of recommended reading for different interests.

My secondary school is a SMK Shahbandaraya. My school resource centre have four part first is library which is located at block Beta 1 at the second floor. Second is ICT room/computer room, at the left side of the library. In front the ICT room have another room is audiovisual room. Lastly at the right side have one glasses room for student do revision or group discussion with their lecturer.

2.0 EXPERIENCES USING SCHOOL RESOURCE CENTRE DURING SCHOOL TIME

3.1 READING CLUB
One of experiences using School Resource Centre during school time is establishment of Reading Club. The School Resource Centre launches Reading Club in the schools during Reading Week with book talks, author visits, giveaways, and displays to all student.

3.2 BOOK AND BRUSHES
Book and brushes is a special program that gives young adult reading section paint. Students must read at least three books from the library and later on they are given chances to paint an example of the book on the mural that has been placed in the library.

3.3 THIRD EXPERIENCE
Besides that my school also do competitions and events for example quizzes, author visits, Book Week, book fairs. For example is Battle of the Books which is a public school contest for students where students competes each other by answering questions about the author, characters, plot, and setting of story of the selected books.

3.4 STORY-TELLING FESTIVAL
Next is Story-telling Festival which is an annual festival. Everyone can get benefit when join the programme because story-telling training workshops are held for teachers to help students learn and share storytelling techniques.

3.0 SERVICES, ACTIVITIES, PROGRAMS, OR PROJECTS DONE AT YOUR SCHOOL RESOURCE CENTRE

4.5 EASY ACCESS TO THE BOOK BY SYSTEMATIC SHELVING
For the shelving, students’ librarian or staff must arranged books on shelves from left to right, top to bottom, bay-by-bay, numerical and alphabetical order of different section and display attractive books and they have to make sure on going shelf tidying.

School Resources Centre must provide good and comfortable environment for usage of students and staff. This can be done by keep tables, chairs and cushions are neatly arranged. In addition, discipline of turn lights and switch on/of computers must be applied in every library user. Librarian also needs to ensure that shelves, books, computers and furniture are clean and neat

4.6 INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)
ICT is most important thing in this new millennium era. At my school, student can use computer to surf internet for academic purposes; including to search knowledge about the school. In a section, there are services of photocopier and printer for library user.

4.7 PROMOTION
Promotion is one of on-going service provided by SRC. There is section that displays latest promotion for example based on an author, theme or event and writing or illustrating reviews. Besides, promotion is done by talking about good reads in class, during a visit to the library or at assembly. In addition, by using ICT book trailers, slideshows, book-related images and videos are created.

4.8 LIMITATION ON BORROWING
Borrowing limit is one area where policies can give bad impact on student reading. Students are allowed to borrow from all areas of the book collection without any low limits on numbers of item that can be borrowed.

4.9 LIBRARY TIMETABLE
Library timetabling is a flexible access to library. Flexible scheduling of the library allows access throughout the day. This allows students to use library services when they need to especially during lunch breaks, before and after school.

4.0 YOUR EXPECTATION TOWARDS THE SRC AND STAFF(S)
Student Resource Centre must be a centre where all information and service needed by school student can be easy access. The service must be in good condition to avoid any delay in use of service when in emergency. Even though it is centre for student to gather, the environment of noisy must be avoided to ensure other user get comfort to use the centre. Since most of SRC are well-equipped with air conditioner, it is advisable to not allow any heavy food get into the library. Only beverages in closed containers and dry foods are allowed. In addition, the library areas must be clean. All trash must be placed in appropriate trash or recycling bin. Last but not least, the staff must be friendly and always available in the area of SRC. This is to ensure whenever student need help or guide, there are staff available to help student.

5.0 YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS/ SUGGESTIONS TO IMPROVE THE SRC
It is highly recommended that SRC can be improved in such numbers of way. First, the internet coverage not only limited to the computer that available in the library. At this era, Wi-Fi is more recommended for efficient use to higher number of user. Student can bring their laptops to do individual assignment. To avoid student from get into access inappropriate website, management of SRC can limit the usage of internet to any website such as social networking website.
Secondly, it is recommended to SRC provide light reading materials such as academic magazine and journals for light reading. This will endorse SRC as one stop centre for student even for simple purpose.
Lastly, it is suggested to publish any updates news and information at special board in the area of SRC. This can be information board for student to get know any information, news, advertisement or event directory of teacher. This can be information board for the student to referred to.

The term School Resource Centre (SRC) emerged in Malaysian education since 1st May 1983 when the Ministry of Education directed all schools to use this term instead of school library.
