The Changing Landscape of Background Investigation

...| the changing landscape of background investigation in hr | OBJECTIVE: To know the need for background investigation in hiring a candidate. Through this paper, we bring out the logic behind the investigations and discuss some cases to corroborate that logic. Laws and rules governing the investigations will also be looked into. Some of the best practices will then be discussed as a practical approach to the issue. DEFINITION: A background check or background investigation is the process of looking up and compiling criminal records, commercial records and financial records of an individual or an organization. REASON: Litigation problems can arise if employees have an incorrect background to them. Every employer has a legal duty to exercise due diligence in hiring and protecting its employees and assets. Estimates are that 30%-40% of job resumes includes some false or inflated facts. Additionally, some Federal and State Laws require background checks be conducted for certain positions. Background checks are often requested by employers on job candidates for employment screening, especially on candidates seeking a position that requires high security or a position of trust, such as in a school, hospital, financial institution, airport, and government. These checks are traditionally administered by a government agency for a nominal fee, but can also be administered by private companies. Background checks can be expensive depending on the information requested. Results of...

...Instructions Your discussion questions are due by the end of the announced time period. Answer the questions below, and type your answers in the “answer box.” Copy and paste the answer box into the discussion board forum titled “My Mother Never Worked.” If you are working with a partner or in a small group, type the full name of each group member into the subject line of your post. Answer Box 1. Answer question one under Purpose and Audience. Write the thesis IN YOUR OWN WORDS. I believe that the point that the writer is trying to prove is that her mother was a hard worker throughout her whole life who never once stopped working regardless of the circumstances or obstacles that she came across. I think that her thesis was never explicitly stated because the telephone conversation stated her thesis well. She stated her essay with the telephone conversation and in the pause between the response of the lady from the Social Security Office she goes back in time and gives a little background of all the jobs her mom had. The writer had a specific question and the lady had a solid answer. At the end of the passage the lady answered her question and gave her the news that she wasn’t eligible for death benefits because her mother never worked according to their records. In my opinion the thesis was in some way written throughout the whole essay when she was explaining all the jobs and task her mom actually had because at the end of the essay you don’t question the...

...How To Change Your 2005 Honda Pilot Oil WRTG 393 Christopher Bloss June 10th, 2015 INTRODUCTION Changing your oil is just like changing the cat litter box – dump out the old crap, inspect for any issues, and fill up with new, fresh goods. The only difference is – if you make a mistake during the change process, you can cause permanent damage to your motor. This manual details the process of changing the oil in a 2005 Honda Pilot. This manual was written for the average DIY-er who has a basic understanding of engine maintenance. This manual is broken down into several thorough steps to help explain the process from understanding the purpose of an oil change, the need for changing the oil, and steps for at home oil changes. Motor Oil Purpose: There are 5 main purposes of motor oil: protection, lubrication, cooling, cleaning, and restoration of performance (Arnold, n.d., para 1). According to Arnold (n.d.), “Motor oil creates a slippery coating of lubrication so that the moving parts can move more fluidly. Without the oil's lubrication, the friction in the moving parts of the motor is greatly compromised and the compression is decreased, resulting in the inability to reach optimal levels of speed and performance.” Oil lubrication creates protection for the moving engine parts without this lubrication; the metal engine parts begin to degrade. As oil travels through the engine, the debris is collected and cleans the metal parts within the motor (Arnold, n.d.,......
