This case study examines issues associated with virtual businesses. In an effort to reduce costs, the founder, Kingo, creates a virtual business model that significantly reduces the need for overhead costs, such as office space. Employees work remotely and via electronic connections. Although this promotes a flexible work environment, the lack of a physical structure creates some issues. As the business grew, so did customer service errors and issues, causing the company to lose sales. Kingo decided the company needed a more sophisticated yet affordable IT system to capture the great amounts of customer and account information his company was gathering. The case goes on to identify and discuss the merits of five possible IT solutions. From this information I have determined that the PaaS system is JUNKVAN’s best IT solution.

The IT Options

This company has several options for IT systems that are not too complicated to implement, would be flexible and could grow with the company, and will not require a dedicated IT staff member to maintain.

The first option would be creating a totally custom application. This option would be the most expensive to develop and maintain as Kingo would really “own” this product from inception and wold not be able to see the product until it was finished.

The second option would be to use Microsoft Database. This option would be an easy upgrade and much cheaper for the company with limited licensing fees. Since the company already use MS it would be easy to upgrade and integrate new information. This would create one unified database and reduce the need for daily database updates. However, even though creating these databases seem to require less resources, they could take a significant amount of time to construct.

Kingo’s third option is to utilize Googledocs, a cheaper…...

According to this ad, the shoes will elevate you to an irresistible status in a woman's eyes. This advertisement uses appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos to sell a product Vans insists will undoubtedly attract woman simply because female onlookers see these shoes being worn. The visual image of an attractive woman in the advertisement is mainly working on a viewers need for acceptability in an attempt to motivate and convince them to purchase Vans shoes. The advertisement plays off the emotions of adolescence; teenagers and young adults are made to think that if they have these shoes beautiful women will be instantly attracted to them. Furthermore, the use of a beautiful woman with plump, full, luscious lips with a deep red lipstick color draws the viewer’s eyes immediately to the woman before anything else. This portrayal would lead one to believe wearing these shoes leads to gaining a beautiful, sensual woman. She just got a new job in her field as a Medical Assistant. Now that she has finished school her next goal was to lose weight. Melissa weighed 230 lbs. and she didn’t have any health issues, but lately she was feeling tired, having headaches, and have been stressed out. So she decided to join a gym membership because she felt like she had no motivation working out at home. She went to the gym five days a week for two weeks, but then it started going down to two or three times a week. She wasn’t eating strictly clean but started eating healthier foods. She did lose about 5 lbs. in two weeks, but then she stopped working out and continued binge eating and gained more than 5 lbs. during that time. So I tried to encourage her by going back to the gym and also preparing her meals for the week. I also told her instead of binge eating when she get stressed to go walking instead. I tried everything I could to help her lose the weight. I told her that she would feel a change in her body if she ate right and left the sugar and fatty foods alone. Many people don’t realize how harmful junk food can be to their body along with lack of exercise. Setting a goal to get rid of junk food and eating healthier can sometimes be very hard to do. We are......

...How Junk Food Affects Children Frendester Shanna Williams DeVry University How Junk Food Affects Children It is getting late as a busy mother of three, wife, and nurse is rushing to pick up her kids and head to softball practice. Its thirty minutes until the oldest child is expected to be on the field. The kids are crying and screaming that they are hungry. What is the mother to do? McDonalds bails her out again. The kids get a quick, hot, and fun meal. This mother doesn’t have to face the challenge of balancing work and life situations, especially cooking a dinner. All may seem at ease, but let’s reveal what is really at stake here. Once at softball practice the mother notices that her child is lagging behind during drills, becoming agitated, and is easily fatigued. She also notices that her child is not as lean as the other girls. The other children seem to be running circles around her child. It seems that her child is continuing to become more and more behind the expectations of her team at each practice. What is wrong? She does some research and is quickly taken by surprise. A diet comprised of an increased intake of sugars, sodium, and additives has numerous repercussions. “However, the potential negative psychosocial aspects of obesity, such as poor body image (BI), social isolation, and stigmatization, are also relevant in the lives of youth” (Martin, 2011, p.245). Parents and other youth leaders are strongly encouraged to be the defense against such harsh......

Vans

...Vans: Skating on Air By Group 14 Joshua Zamora Abderrahim Zennouhi Hong Wang Marketing Management 6208 –Wednesday 8PM Dr. Dillard and Professor Prince Introduction Launched in 1966 by Paul and James Van Doren, Vans was described as an “unconventional business model”. In the beginning, the company did not have a specific segmented target market. Vans just simply sold the shoes to anyone who wanted to buy and made customized shoes based on what the customer ordered. The company thrived off innovation and the original rubber-soled shoe was designed to be “the most durable and affordable casual deck shoe in the market”. During this period, customers had plenty of external fabric and color optionality, to go along with the rubber sole, which was instrumental in helping promote this niche product in the 1960s – thanks to the help of Van Doren’s children who were able to spread the word about the shoes at school. In the 1970s Southern California was said to give birth to skateboarding and ultimately a skateboarding group known as the “Z-Boys”. Compared to other mainstream sports such as Football or Basketball, Skateboarding was considered to be a disorganized sport during 60s to 70s. In a school environment, skateboarding received little to no recognition compared to mainstream sports. As a result, the mainstream brands were not interested in this niche skateboarding market which, during this time, allowed Vans to become the front runner in this niche......

Junk Mail

... Junk Mail Some of the main reasons why I am for junk mail or as they call it, direct or stand mail is simply because they it’s a way for small businesses to advertise themselves, keeps our USPS employees employed, also give companies the advantage to send direct mail pieces to specific buying groups, based on key demographics, such as gender, age, household income, household size and profession (Suttle); on a lighter note it even contains coupons. I know a lot of people are against junk mail because it takes up space, goes into the landfills, and most people just throw their junk mail without even reading it, however, I feel that as long as it’s used in the correct manner, its harmless. In regard to keeping employment for our USPS carriers, as much as we may dislike all that extra bulk mail we receive in our mail, we have to remember behind that junk/bulk mail is a hard working individual like ourselves just trying to make a living. According to an article I read, there is saturation mailing, where the Post Office helps bulk mailers send mail to every address in an area (with addresses only - no names - on the mailings). The bulk mailer has to build up a list containing at least 90% of the addresses in a carrier-route. The Post Office will then supply the remaining 10% for a small fee so that the bulk mailer will reach everyone on the route. ("U.S. Post Office") Whether we like it or not, there is a deadline to be met by our fellow USPS employee. All this junk......
