City Report Tokyo and Karachi

...Report: Tokyo and Karachi Mackenzie J. Kiene Cleveland State University Abstract Upon comparing and contrasting the two megacities of Karachi and Tokyo it is apparent that these are two very dissimilar metropolitan areas with only a handful of similarities. On one hand, there is Karachi, a city with one-third of its population in poverty and 40% of its residents living in the slums. On the other hand there is Tokyo, which has been deemed as one of the cleanest, most efficient, and safest megacities in the world. With such differing characteristics it is easy to use these two cities as complete opposites despite their status as two of the largest megacities in the world. It is particularly interesting how two cities with two of the largest populations in the world can be so vastly different and harbor citizens with such contrasting lifestyles. Keywords: Populations, Economy, Socio-political, Environment, Culture, Religion Population Demographics: Karachi Karachi is one of the most heavily populated cities in the entire world with an approximate population of 21.2 million people which is still growing at a rate of about 5% per year. Karachi has grown from a population of 500,000 in 1947 to its approximate 21.2 million today. Angotti and Beckel (2001) believe that this huge population spike is due to Karachi’s key situation in the strategic and economic scheme of British trade in the 20th century. Karachi has a very......

Feel free to browse and inform yourself with mental disorders and their treatment. This is the place where you can attain peace of mind by solving problems like depression, anxiety, or addiction etc. their families in need of psychiatric care and treatment of substance (addiction) abuse. Karachi Psychiatric Hospital offers the community, an inpatient treatment as well as outpatient services for children, adolescents and adults. Visiting a psychiatric facility on its own is quite disturbing being a psychologist because somehow psychiatrists do not mostly deal with the people as clients but as patients, on this visit it was the first time ever that i saw an ECT on a patient that patient was there since a week at it was her 3rd session upon asking the doctor told that in all there are 8 sessions given to a person 2 to 3 times a week, the process of giving the ECT in think was not appropriate because when current passes a body all the electrolytes in it dry out so the patient is to be prepared by giving electrolytes in advance and when the doctor was questioned about anaesthesia she told that in thousand people chances of bones fracturing or other kind of physical injury because of fit of ECT is one percent so they do it without it, which is again questionable. ECT in psychiatric hospitals seems very normal there was......

Jama Masjid Allah Wali - Bohrapir, Karachi

...of any unforeseen hazard, these stairs does not provide an immediate and swift egress from the mosque. Facilities for handicapped: There are as such no facilities given for the handicapped. There is no ramp available. The elderlies face trouble in performing ablution and walking up and down the floors. Toilets: The toilets are located right next to the mosque. Its orientation is not proper, and the odor from the toilet escapes into right into the street. The entrance to the toilets is next to the mosque’s side entrance. Shoe Space There is no space designed for the storage of shoes. Shoes are left outside the mosque, or placed in boxes in the mosque. Analysis Jama Masjid Allah Wali is one of the many mosques that were created in Karachi before the partition of sub-continent. The actual planning was done according to the population of the area at that time. The ablution seat is 10” high. The height is insufficient, and does not meet with the standard of 12”-18” height. The distance between ablution seats is 6”, against the standard of 12” distance. The main entrance is 6’ wide and it is sufficient and as per the standards, but the secondary entrance is 4’ wide, which is not wide enough. Risers and tread should always be in a fixed ratio (i.e. T+2R=24-25). This ratio cannot be seen in the stairs of mosque. The stairs are also 3’ wide, against a minimum width standard of 4’. And in the case of such mosque, they should be at least 6’ wide. The saff size has become 4’......

How to Get a Driving License in Karachi

...How to get a driving license in Karachi Trying to get any ordinary task done, in a place like Karachi, when you have to deal with the government, turns out not to be an ordinary experience at all. One example of that is what happened when I got my driver’s license. Firstly, I would discuss the honest and decent way in which my friend and I tried to get our license. We went to the license department on a Thursday afternoon. When we reached there, many agents tried to approach us told that they could get our licenses for us, as they had contacts with officers inside the department, who would get our licenses within no time. They also mentioned that it was almost impossible for us to get the licenses without hiring anyone for us, because the people inside the department are corrupt people and will never pass us in the theoretical exam and as well as the practical one. Since, we were there to follow the right way and had no of breaking the law; we decided to get hold of the licenses in a fair way. When we tried to get our driver’s license honestly, here were the steps we had to follow, in which we encountered different situations. Firstly, we entered the license department and went straight to the counter where we took our license forms in one building. After filling out forms, we had to go to the other building where we had to submit them. In that building, a huge crowd was present and a race for the submission of forms was happening. Those who had arranged an......

...export credit agencies surveyed now have no-bribery declarations, and most of them have formal bribe-deterrence policies. But inconsistencies in policy implementation remain a concern. For example, while certain agencies have designated staff to oversee their anti-bribery measures and have created formal written guidelines and staff training programmes, others have only ad hoc arrangements. Overall, while some agencies exhibit good practices that others can replicate, so far there is little evidence of bribery deterrence policies in operational practice. More must be done to tighten agencies’ anti-bribery commitments. These are Karachi Interbank Offered Rates (KIBOR) KIBOR-Rates KIBOR is the average asking price of the loans to be made by one bank to another, it has nothing to do with the banks lending to corporates. That is why when banks quote KIBOR-based prices for loans to their customers, it is the premium they demand over KIBOR, and not KIBOR itself that really takes into account the credit worthiness of the borrower and the prospects of loan recovery or default. KIBOR is defined as the Average rate, Ask Side, for the relevant tenor, as published on Reuters page KIBOR or as published by the Financial Markets Association of Pakistan in case the Reuters page is unavailable .It is Karachi Inter Bank Offer Rate (KIBOR), given by specialized institution on daily ,weekly, monthly and on 1, 2 and 3 yearly basis to all the commercial banks of Pakistan so that they charge interest to their customers on that basis.
