Three key stakeholder groups consist of the owners/shareholders, employees of PG&E and customers living in Hinkley,California. The owners of PG&E ignored the fact that they did contaminate the water by using toxic chromium in order to make more profits and covered up the truth from its customers. At last, the company had to pay for what it had done: $333 million to victims. Definitely employees would be greatly affected, because they may lose their jobs if the company goes bankruptcy due to lawsuits and damages. They could have stopped this but they remained silent. As for residents in Hinkley, the polluted water ruined their lives. The epidemic swept the whole community even the young children failed to escape from this.
I found a handful of ethical issues in Erin Brockovich. To begin with, there was an issue of bribery. PG&E tried to buy houses which located in that contaminated land, and give house owners a good deal. It offered $250,000 to Jensen to her house. Clearly they knew why they offered so generously and what they did was wrong, but they did that anyway. Therefore, it is an ethical decision. Besides, an issue of whistle blowing also was shown in this movie. Eventually a brave employee who was in charge of destroying documents about the water problem in PG&E told Erin a lot of information about what exactly happened. This is an ethical decision, as that employee did the right thing. Finally, an issue of honesty and integrity was involved in the movie. The company lied to local residents, and even told doctors to lie that the their diseases had nothing to do with the water problem. This is also an ethical decision, because the company knew this was absolutely wrong.
If I were the manager of PG&E, I would firstly stop supplying poisonous water immediately I was informed the water issue, then I would tell the customers what I know so…...

...Victoria and Albert museum, as part of the assignment I found it was quite difficult to work out whether it was the marketing department or the public relations department behind certain things such as events. I found it difficult to distinguish the organisations ‘owned’ channels and the ones ‘bought’ by the V&A but after further research and through looking at their website this became more evident. Further on into the week I had my first PR workshop which started with a task to write about my style of writing in a time slot of 5 minutes. This related to the task in my PR Professionalism seminar which was to figure out my own learning style, and work on both my strengths and weaknesses. This task has actually helped me with writing this blog as instead of procrastinating over what I’m going to say I just start writing and then I find it’s easier for ideas to flow. Later on I was introduced to writing press releases and was intrigued to know whether I would be taught how to write them in the same style that was used at The Fashion Retail Academy. Learning the inverted pyramid writing was new to me and I found this an easy structure to follow along with the 5 w’s (who, what, when ,where and why). However, when I had to find my own example of a good and bad press release I really struggled with finding a bad one and actually finding websites with a press department. ...Metaphor for Telling It has been countless years since I have watched a movie about Native Americans, and even longer since I have witnessed a decent one. Most films on the subject of the Native American people are often set in the past and are habitually on the subject of brave Indian warriors. I had never viewed a Native American motion picture filmed in a present day setting, dealing with contemporary issues until I watched Smoke Signals. In the movie Smoke Signals, co-producer and scriptwriter Sherman Alexie uses unexpected humor, numerous significant flashbacks, and modernized Native American storytelling traditions to best narrate his story and the historical plight of Native Americans. First of all, Alexie employs wit by mocking stereotypical reservation life, the frequently biased film industry, and even his own people, the Native Americans. From the opening scene as tribal meteorologist and traffic reporter Lester Falls Apart covers his seemingly uneventful daily traffic report, as he has for the last twenty-six years, from the rooftop of his broken down KREZ van, we are introduced to the odd and amusing way of life on the “rez.” In another scene, Victor and Thomas are embarking on their solemn journey and are offered a ride by Thelma and Lucy driving down the road in reverse; again, it is suggested that they exist in a somewhat backwards nation. In addition, Alexie is quick to taunt the movie industry by belittling white cowboy heroes; he even goes so far......

...Susan's Blog and PwC’s Unique People Experience Initiative Q1. What aspects of active listening are suggested in Susan's blog and the UPE initiative? Active listening requires the listener to understand, interpret, and evaluate what he or she heard. The ability to listen actively can improve personal relationships through reducing conflicts, strengthening cooperation and fostering understanding. In Susan’s blog, same concepts are applied setting up a satellite women’s network, running a large number of internal events, some targeting to skills development, some informative and some purely on social. UPE initiative is a philosophical approach to developing talent, instead of treating everyone the same, the firm has customized its approach to fit the diversity of its people and create a culture. Q2. What aspects of constructive feedback are suggested in Susan's blog and the UPE initiative? Constructive criticism means starting from a different position. Your criticism should be factual, impersonal and timely. The value of changing their behavior must also be clear. In Susan’s blog, the first component of UPE understands those different needs, by assigning a partner/leader who is charged with getting to know him or her professionally and personally, including those aspects such as race, gender, and work-life issues that can affect experiences with the firm. ...In a short span of five years, blogs have invaded our culture and left an indelible mark on society. From Politics to Journalism, blogs are reshaping our notion of how content is created and information is disseminated. Before the popularity of blogging and the internet the main sources of news were television and newspapers. The content and perspective of the news was decided by the media. It was easy for them to stretch the truth, omit important issues, portray problems as more or less serious than reality, and show the point of view that they wanted the public to see. The internet changed the way our news was delivered, and blogs in particular have affected the news industry greatly. Unlike before where some executive decided what the country should and shouldn't be told about, it is now possible for any individual to publish news on the internet. This has changed the news industry dramatically from a consumers point of view. The executives can still try to control which stories are published and which point of view to portray, but online we can find the real truths more easily. Not only can we find out what happened from various view points, we can read individual people's thoughts and feelings about the stories. We can see what various experts think about situations and events, as well as the general public opinions. Another benefit for consumers is that we can filter the types of news we choose to read. Television news often shows world events, sporting events and a......

...24-hour challenge of Internet disconnection Last Sunday, I had an experience which I challenged myself – I asked myself not to communicate via the Internet for 24 hours in order to see how I would feel without contacting with the world through the Internet. I decided to stay disconnected with the social media in a day, the challenge started at 8am on 14/03/2015. This blog entry is to show my activities within the challenge. 8.00am (14/03/2015) I woke up and turned off wifi and mobile data completely. I did not turned off my cellphone because I love taking pictures, I want to capture moments of life – therefore I can use camera of my cellphone to make it. 8.30am It was considered early to me to wake up at this time. I got out of bed and did my personal hygiene in the morning. Turned back to my room, I decided to clean my room after busy weeks with schoolwork. Normally, I use my phone to check out my Facebook and messages, but I did not do it. I was quite satisfied to see my neat room. 9.15am I was hungry, I made instant noodle as a breakfast. I started feeling uncomfortable without using social media. Well, I really wanted to make it, so I continued the challenge. 10.00am After eating and cleaning stuff in the kitchen, I played some nice and sweet pieces of music on the piano. I really enjoyed it and did not think of what was happening in the social media. I played for 2 hours which made me have a calm mind. 12 noon I felt that I should check out my media account......

...be a major topic in life, coming-of-age will be as well. For centuries, teens have been misunderstood by their families. They don't understand our thought process or why we even thought that way in the first place. That's when great writers and great producers came together to make films surrounding that. The coming-of-age films were most popular in the 80s--coincidentally while the fashion was also very out there and misunderstood. Personally, a movie that stood out the most in the Generation X era, was American Pie. Though it was very comedic, it's very relatable. The film focused on a group of teenage boys attempting to lose their innocence, but also shows the main character's parents constantly trying to "fix" him. As a viewer, you are immediately on the main character's side. Throughout the movie, his father is always trying to piece in on his life. The father feels that he knows exactly what the teen is experiencing because of him unexpectedly walking in on an unusual sexual act the teen was committing. Throughout the movie, he is giving him tips on sex and tries to "rectify" his "situation," when nothing the father is offering is necessary. The main character was trying to have actual sex and since he had a hard time doing so, at times, he'd use inanimate objects in replace of an actual human being. As teens "came of age," based off of previous experience, parents understood that that was the time that they should have "the talk." Realistically, that represented......

Blog Paper

...The blog that I choose was one about the cyber defense for the blue team is what it is titled as. I like this blog because that is my ultimate goal and the career that I want to do after I have graduated from NOVA. I also have competed in the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) last year and want to again this coming year. Just thought this blog was helpful in getting some tips and maybe using it in the competition. The first part of the blog talks about capture the flag, which I am not really good at and need to practice that if I only want to get better at it. From my understanding of what capture the flag is gathering information or finding out what certain data is from a piece of information given to you. I think capture the flag is a great way of increasing your skills as an IT professional. Learning how to capture the flag can be somewhat difficult if you are trying to do it on your own. My suggestion would be to get with someone who is fairly good at it and work with that individual and get better at it. Also in a competition environment like the CCDC I would only have the strong individual working on capture the flag and get all of those knocked out real fast so you can get your points. The blog also talks about before you begin the competition and kind of list some guidelines to follow. I think that they are very helpful what was put out. It was things from who is going to be the team organizer, who is good at what operating systems, who are the strong......

...panicky side of the youngsters. The main characters Moon, Ah Lung, Ah Ping and Susan in the movie represent the problem youth in the society. The monologue of Moon at the very beginning unveils the failure of educational system in Hong Kong. As an exam-oriented society, elites with good academic results are highly praised but for those cannot obtain high marks are doomed to failure. Moon being the later one leaves school at the early stage and winds up being a gangster. However, students who go to school are not free from problems associated. Fruit Chan in the movies shows the evil side of students, there is a scene which a group of secondary students bully ah Lung in the public toilet in order to feel a sense of superiority. Also, Susan in the movie are unable to manage pressure and bad times in her life, she finally resorts suicide in order to escape from the reality. The leave of Moon’s parent, the unconsciousness of Susan’s teacher and a driver for her death, connotatively show the reaction of adult on the youth problem, they choose dodging rather than facing up to it. The marks-based society creates a new generation with high marks but low emotional quality, Fruit Chan has depicted the youth problem in an humanistic angle, awakened the society on the flaws about the current educational system and the lack of support for teens in the society. Another local problem shown in the movie is the grass-rooted problem in HK. In Made in Hong Kong, the replacement of glamorous......

...update about Blogspot to Google’s Security Blog http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.com/2015/09/https-support-coming-to-blogspot.html. Since 2008, we've worked to encrypt the connections between our users and Google servers. Over the years we've announced that Search, Gmail, Drive, and many other products have encrypted connections by default, and most recently, we've made a similar announcement for our ads products. In this same vein, today we're expanding on the HTTPS Everywhere mission and beginning an initial rollout of HTTPS support for Blogspot. HTTPS is a cornerstone of internet security as it provides several important benefits: it makes it harder for bad actors to steal information or track the activities of blog authors and visitors, it helps check that visitors open the correct website and aren’t being redirected to a malicious location, and it helps detect if a bad actor tries to change any data sent from Blogger to a blog visitor. While this initial rollout won’t support all of our Blogger users, we wanted to take the first step to make HTTPS available for Blogspot; for those users who want to try it early. We’re rolling this out gradually and Blogspot authors interested in enabling HTTPS support can begin opting-in today. Simply log into http://www.blogger.com, click on the blog you’d like to make HTTPS enabled, navigate to the Settings page, and select "yes" for "HTTPS Availability". Unfortunately, blogs with custom domains are not supported......

Blog Analysis

...Mary Cagle Feministe In 2001, Lauren Bruce founded Feministe as her personal blog to use in exploring feminist theory. Since then, Feminste has grown into a network of about five main authors and many guest bloggers. Feministe features a broad range of topics in order to “foster a dynamic, robust, progressive and inclusive feminist community,” according to the mission statement. This blog reaches a large audience; the twitter account @feministe has 23.7K followers, but they did not gain a following by taking the easy way. Many Feministe posts thoroughly examine events and people and the way they affect women around the world, and they are not always nice. Even their tagline, “In defense of the sanctimonious women’s studies set,” is a sarcastic response to a male blogger dismissing feminism. Along with the regular posts, Feministe has threads engaging their audience like, “shameless self-promotion Sunday” where the blog followers can post their own stories, “signal-bosting” threads where bloggers can post links and share other articles, and “spillover” threads for more discussion on a certain topic in the comments section. The latest post, a response to the report on Rolling Stone’s handling of the University of Virginia rape story, was very eye opening and provided a different perspective. In November, Rolling Stone released a story about a rape on the UVA campus. The victim, called Jackie, wished to remain anonymous and also did not release the name of her rapist.......

...1. Post One: Write a narrative from your school experience that encapsulates an important lesson you and perhaps others were able to learn. How did/has this experience shape (d) you? Refer to Chapter Three for ideas to help generate your blog ideas. Chapter three presents various lessons that a student like me can be able to learn from and relate to. My school experience in is rather diverse since living in a multicultural city like Miami, I interact with people from different ethnic backgrounds and learn a lot from them. Their languages, beliefs, traditions, culture in general. There are several experiences that emerge from this chapter that encapsulate how I feel and what I have learned through time; but the experience that seriously shaped me as a student and even though the story is somehow sad, taught me a great lesson about hope and never giving up. This was when I had already given up going to college after almost not being able to graduate from high school since I had to start working full time at 16 years old to be able to economically help my family. I couldn’t bare so many responsibilities being so immature. The intensiveness of the work and school at such a young age truly made a big difference in my life. It made me a more responsible and mature person. I had apportioned my time to play an important role in shaping my family at the same time playing a role as a student and as an employee. Just like soldiers in the field, I have struggled a great deal to......

...1300 layouts of films contain the cut of camera work, camera speed and space relation between characters and backgrounds; it gives me an insight of the process of animation making. Hence, I would like to comprehend more about the film produced by animation powerhouse-Studio Ghibli, especially the masterpiece-“Spirited Away”, which helps to promote Japanese animation to worldwide audience. “Spirited Away” is an animated film written and directed by the director of Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyazaki (Cavallaro 2004) in 2001, which have won awards in a number of international film festivals, including Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and a Golden Bear at the Berlin International Festival (Reider 2005), and become the top-grossing movie in Japanese history. In the following, the film’s themes based on the plot, use of photography and camera angle and aesthetic symbols and motifs will be analyzed throughout the essay to understand the key of success of this fantasy adventure film, which was set in a traditional Japanese bathhouse. A. Overview of “Spirited Away” The story begins with Chihiro, a spoiled ten years old girl and her families accidentally enter a spirit world and she is warned by a young boy-Haku to leave here before sunset while wandering off into the park.
