LUCY For some months into 2015, this movie, Lucy has been hitting theater headlines across the world. It has consistently received diversified opinions from movie critics. From what I can see on the online reviews, it has received both positive and negative criticisms from all over the world. It leaves a lot of questions than answers as to why there is so much fuss around this particular film. Confused about what to believe in, I opted to watch the movie, albeit with an open mind. Lucy is a Sci-Fiction film, filled with some action and adventure. It is about a young girl, a student, who gets involved with a drug dealing boyfriend. Her boyfriend asks her to do a single drop inside a hotel while he waits outside. But the drug lord has other ideas, he kills the boyfriend and forces the girl to transit his drugs, hidden in her stomach. The drug bag busts open and she is exposed to the drug. The content of the drug sends her brain into unprecedented over-drive, manifesting the real powers of a human brain. She acquires enormous supernatural powers; she becomes a great warrior, able to understand everything around her, ranging from languages, medical conditions to mind reading. She is also able to travel through time, from the past to the present day. The movie is faced paced, quickly moving between time. The parallel transition between Lucy’s story and the simultaneous lecture in which the professor tells his class about how the brain operates is quite amazing. The directing is as fast as it gets, trying to keep the audience at par with the narrative. I found it to be a little confusing, that is, transitioning between time, space and the lecture requires an extra bit of concentration. The editing is great, given the high 3D graphics…...

Reaction Paper on the Movie "Freedom Writers"

...REACTION PAPER “FREEDOM WRITERS” By: Racel Emmanuelle R. Mendoza There is an obvious discrimination shown in the movie “Freedom Writers”, where everybody hates everybody and they got no choice but to live in a world full of pandemonium. Random cultural implications are shown in the movie. Where one has to accept his/her society since birth, or someone has to really join a gang to keep up and belong to a hood. In the case of the students in the movie, they are just simply hopeless and what they all just do is to keep raging flames in their hearts. Until one tough and undeniably smart professor came on their way to take action – Ms. Gruwell. As Ms. Gruwell came into the movie, I just thought that there will really be one person who will unexpectedly cross one’s life and lead you towards impunity. Same with the world or certain country where there is rampant chaos and a peacemaker leads to fight for the right. At first, Ms. Gruwell had dismay that she wasn’t able to understand everything. And because she thinks and considers the factors she sees in her current endeavor, she came up with a very unique plan that a usual professor wouldn’t think about. – FREEDOM WRITING. I guess, the maker of the movie wanted to disseminate how the therapy of writing one’s feelings comes into such a relief to those whose minds are insane and broken. This is a very good twist in the movie, where in cultural liberalism takes place. Series of difficulties are shown in the movie, and how brave Ms...

Critic Paper on Sociology

...The Age of Social Transformation by Peter F. Drucker Critic Paper Basically, this article of Drucker describes the rise and transformation of “knowledge society”. The twentieth century has seen more common and radical social transformation than any other time in history, the labor and politics of the developed countries now are completely different in terms of processes, problems and structures from the past century. In his article, in the first part of it, it is explained that the work-force, society and politics has change qualitative and quantitatively. Changes occurred from the farmers and domestic servant. Before World War I, Farmers are the largest group compare to servants. Farmers and domestic servants were everywhere. After World War II, farmers are middle sized group but nowadays, farmers are only 5% of workforce and the servants are dead because of the rise of blue-collar worker. And from the rise to fall of blue-collar worker, the rise of knowledge worker occurred. In the part of The Emerging Knowledge Society, formal education enables work & social position, education will become center of the society but the knowledge in application is effective only if it is specialized. Knowledge society is the organization that performs. The Employee Society, traditional work for a “master” but nowadays, the “boss” is an employee as well. Supremo Filipino Movie Reflection Paper

...Supremo Filipino Movie Reflection Paper Reflection Paper about Supremo Supremo is a Filipino movie which shows the Spanish era in the Philippines and how the Philippines fought for its independence. Andres Bonifacio was the main character of the movie because it focused on how the Katipunan, which was led by Bonifacio, formed and struggled to fight the Spanish military even though they were severely disadvantaged in terms of training and weaponry. The film also showed the devastation it left in the Philippines after the Filipino-Spanish war. The film started started out by showing Andres Bonifacio’s wife dead and a brief introduction of his past. Afterwards, a small action happened while he was helping some of his fellowmen travel into the city since their house burnt down but they were harassed and attacked by the Spanish military for not bringing their cedulas. Just by seeing this, the film wants to show us how oppressive the Spanish military were and even if their excuse for not bringing their cedulas were valid, they took advantage of them by trying to search their items even when they said that they will just go back which led to bloodshed. I think they just want to express their dominance over the Filipinos and show us that they can do whatever they want to us. To support this idea, there was also a part where they publicly killed a Filipino after judging him guilty for trying to kill a military official and said that may it be a warning to all who would think......

Movie Paper (12 Angry Men)

...COMM 132 October 2, 2014 Movie Paper (12 Angry Men) In the Movie, 12 Angry Men, 12 jurors were tasked with finding a young man guilty or not-guilty of murdering his own father. In order for the men to fulfill their duty as jurors, they had to come to a consensus of whether the young man was guilty or not by working together, as a group, in order to analyze the trials evidence and testimonies, to then come to an agreement on the defendant’s guilt or innocence. As a group that was formed solely for the purpose of achieving a goal of determining someone’s guilt or innocence, the men face many of the challenges that come with having to deal with group communication, such as working with strangers, successfully interacting with them, and having uncooperative members, among other challenges involving the elements of group communication. First of all, the 12 individual members of the group of jurors had to move past the awkwardness that comes with primary tension. In accordance to Tuckman’s Group Development Stages, during the jurors forming stage many of the jurors seemed to feel uncomfortable working with the other members of the jury. Some of the members were evidently uninterested in even working with the group to achieve the group’s goal. For example, Juror 7 and Juror 12 were the most expressive of their lack of interest as Juror 7 just wanted to get a verdict in so that he would be able to go to his much anticipated baseball game, while Juror 12 would started with......

...Movie Critic Lauren HUM/150 February **, 20** Movie Critic The story of U.S. Navy Seal Chris Kyle isn’t exactly an unknown story. Chris Kyle, named the Legend is said to be the most lethal sniper in the United States military history. Chris Kyle has over one hundred and sixty confirmed kills throughout his service to the USA. Kyle enlisted in the Navy after the devastation of 9/11 swept the country, and continued on to complete four tours of Iraq before finally coming home. The editing of American Sniper was dead on. There were gorgeous shots and amazing sound effects, which when put together created the perfect picture. The close up shots of Chris preparing to take a shot, while being able to hear his deep and calm breathing generated the most personal feeling a movie can cultivate. Chris Kyle is known for having the longest recorded kill in US history, and this movie provided a marvelous show of that. The eyeline matching that Eastwood used was just as if you were there next to Kyle. An example of this is when Eastwood used the aerial shot from over a mile away to show the magnitude of Chris Kyle’s feat. The Navy Seals are trained for battle but this situation proves why Kyle was name the Legend. This movie clearly falls into the action genre but doesn’t necessarily keep all of the aspects the same. One thing I find in this movie to be atypical of the action genre is the way it is filmed. All of the scenes are intense and keep the viewers on the edge their seats,......

Fym Movie Reaction Paper

...Mendoza, Andrew F. Dr. Arsenia Lucy P. Dev (Friday; 4:00pm - 5:00pm) October 30, 2015 Reaction Paper: Felix Y. Manalo Directed by Joel Lamangan under Viva Films, the epic-historical-biographical film “Felix Manalo” broke two Guiness World Record (Largest Attendance for Film Screening and largest Attendance for Film Premiere) on its international premiere night held last October 5, 2015 at Philippine Arena, Ciudad de Victoria, Bocaue, Bulacan. The said film was also a major production of the church, Iglesia ni Cristo and with its whole support, the movie became more than just a successful one; it was a mega-blockbuster hit. Originally, it was a 6-hour film, but during its premiere, only the cut-short 3-hour version was screened. The film is a historical drama portraying the life of Bro. Felix Ysagun Manalo, the first executive minister of the Iglesia ni Cristo and regarded as the messenger of God in these last days. The film was shot in a sepia-like filter which gave me the impression of it being shot in an era where colored pictures have yet to exist. The soundtrack and music video of the film entitled “Ang Sugo ng Diyos sa mga Huling Araw” was released on October 4, 2015 at the Philippine Arena. It was performed by Sarah Geronimo, composed by Joan and Ryan Solitario and arranged by Louie Ocampo. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up as it played and it also moved me like how a worship service hymn would. It revolves on......

Islam Movie Critic

...Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is the producer and director of the short film titled Innocence of Muslims. He masquerades as Sam Bacile, a realtor who could have been discriminated or mistreated by Muslims in Egypt. It is a film that insults Islam as a religion by featuring Muhammad as a cynical character. This paper analyzes the film in terms of its audience and purpose. The paper takes the dimension of critiquing the ideas about Islam offered in the film since most of them are not founded on facts but rather on malice. The controversial film was uploaded on Youtube in 2012 as a trailer for a movie that was in its production. There were two versions of the videos one titled Muhammad Movie Trailer and the other The Real Life of Muhammad. The videos were dubbed in Islam’s common language: Arabic. This point leads us to know who the intended audience was. The film was intended to gain viewership in the Islam world as a way of criticizing their religion. It is also arguable that other religions such as the Jews and Christians would be subscribed to the video in huge numbers as it talks negatively about Islam which is supposedly an enemy to their religions. Actually, there were suspicions that the film could have been funded by the Jewish fraternity. Throughout the plot of the ‘trailer,’ the actors make inflammatory remarks about Muhammad while others defend him. Muhammad himself is presented as a bloody killer and thug, child molester, homosexual and a polygamous man who mishandles......

Bug's Life Movie Paper

...BUG’S LIFE THE MOVIE In the Disney movie, A Bugs Life, there are many sociological factors that are present.   First there is the difference between the leadership styles of the Queen ant, Princess Atta, and even Hopper the grasshopper.   Also, the ant colony it self portrays the differences in social groups and who is looked at as a norm based on the ants perception and those who are deviant from the colony.   And lastly, another sociological perspective that can be seen is the symbolic interationist perspective and the way one acts of deviance or norm and if that is based and if that behavior is biological or learned.   In what follows the colony of ants will be descried and analyzed through the sociological aspects of, leadership portrayed by Princess Atta, the groups that are presented by the ants and the grasshoppers, and also the theories of behavior that can possibly explain Flik’s non compliant ways of the other ants.     Leadership can be categorized in three different ways.   These ways are Authoritarian, Democratic, and Laissez-Faire type leadership.   Those who lead in an authoritarian manner are those who give orders and have things done their way and their way only.   Democratic leaders strive to gain a consensus from others and are open to others ideas before making there final decisions.   A leader who demonstrates laissez-faire type leadership is one who is highly permissive and provides little or no direction and gives others as much freedom as......

Movie Critic: to Kill a Mocking Bird

...Movie Critic: To Kill a Mockingbird To Kill a Mocking Bird is a novel that received raving reviews from critics like Chicago Tribune, Time Magazine and Life Magazine. With this being her only novel, author Harper Lee created the story in effort to tell a story of siblings Scout and Jem Finch and how an experience that changes their view on the town have they live in. Scout Finch, a young 5 year old girl is the protagonist and narrator in the story. Jem Finch, her 9 year old brother looks after her and is her constant playmate throughout the novel. Atticus is the father of the two, a lawyer in Maycomb, and acts as the “moral backbone” of the novel. When the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird became an immediate success, a picture film comes out in 1962 based off of that novel. Since the film received eight Academy Awards, it is automatically assumed that the film did a great job portraying the novel in live action. However, there were some differences as well as similarities when comparing the two. The largest similarity in the book was the main plot. Tom Robinson was convicted of raping Mayella Ewell and Atticus had to defend him, being willing to do so. Atticus feelings toward the matter did not change also; he still stood up for equality for all races, which caused him to be look down upon in Maycomb County during the trial. Another similarity of the novel is the ages and occupations of most of the characters. There were quite a few differences, however, that if you had......

Movie Critic Review of Crash

...Crash: Of Racial Discrimination and Stereotypes November 3rd, 2011 Crash: Of Racial Discrimination and Stereotypes Directed by Paul Haggis and produced in 2004, Crash was the Oscar Awards winner of Best Picture in 2006. Aside from Best Picture, the movie won only one other award: Best Original Screenplay for Paul Haggis and Robert Moresco. Despite its little recognition, Crash is an important movie to watch. Plot The plot of Crash is not about a typical, narrative story in the usual sense. Instead, it focuses on a theme or message and weaves several linked stories to highlight the theme. The movie is essentially about racial discrimination and the consequences of stereotyping people. Set in LA, the story covers a 24-hour period. The movie depicts the stories of several people whose lives are intertwined by accidental and casual encounters, usually on the streets. The characters in the story are people of varying ethnic groups: a bad and a good cop, a group of police investigators, a couple of teenage robbers, a DA and his wife, an Arab family, a Hispanic locksmith and his family, and an affluent African American movie director and his wife. The story revolves around how all of these people have deeply ingrained prejudices and how they themselves could suffer from discrimination. Theme and depiction Discrimination and stereotyping of people sometimes happen as a result of reinforcement of the behavior of the people being......

Moore's Movie Paper

...His beard is a bit unkempt, wiry and unruly. His hair is sloppily jutting out from beneath his baseball cap. Being fairly new to the movie scene, this plain manner of dress allowed him on average person, therefore, trustworthy. His manner of speaking seems to fit his image as well. His tone seem to be geared toward a broad audience. # 4) Pathos is used extensively by both films. The appeal to emotions is very strong because emotions direct people and the way that people live their lives. Emotions are very powerful, and both movies try to appeal to our emotions to persuade us to their side of the argument. Moore appeals to the viewers emotions in the inauguration scene in the beginning of the movie. He shows the protestors at Bush's inauguration to incite anger into people over the fact that Bush was elected. He also does this later in the movie when he interviews troops in the hospital. He wants people to feel bad about the troops and therefore be against the war. He also interviews the mother of a fallen soldier to appeal to people's emotions. He wants to show the pain and anguish that the mother has now that her son was killed in Iraq. He appeals to our emotions because we don't want the pain and anguish of losing a loved one, so he wants us to oppose the war so that people will not have to suffer the pain that the mother shown in the movie had. # 5) Michael Moore has very nearly become a household name in today’s politically charged society. I would even......
