Reaction Paper on the Movie "Freedom Writers"

...REACTION PAPER “FREEDOM WRITERS” By: Racel Emmanuelle R. Mendoza There is an obvious discrimination shown in the movie “Freedom Writers”, where everybody hates everybody and they got no choice but to live in a world full of pandemonium. Random cultural implications are shown in the movie. Where one has to accept his/her society since birth, or someone has to really join a gang to keep up and belong to a hood. In the case of the students in the movie, they are just simply hopeless and what they all just do is to keep raging flames in their hearts. Until one tough and undeniably smart professor came on their way to take action – Ms. Gruwell. As Ms. Gruwell came into the movie, I just thought that there will really be one person who will unexpectedly cross one’s life and lead you towards impunity. Same with the world or certain country where there is rampant chaos and a peacemaker leads to fight for the right. At first, Ms. Gruwell had dismay that she wasn’t able to understand everything. And because she thinks and considers the factors she sees in her current endeavor, she came up with a very unique plan that a usual professor wouldn’t think about. – FREEDOM WRITING. I guess, the maker of the movie wanted to disseminate how the therapy of writing one’s feelings comes into such a relief to those whose minds are insane and broken. This is a very good twist in the movie, where in cultural liberalism takes place. Series of difficulties are shown in the movie, and how brave Ms...

Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Paper

...Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Paper Casie Thibeault PSY/315 July 27, 2013 Michelle A. Williams, PhD Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Paper The very word “statistics” seems to produce anxiety in most students - anxiety produced from its connection to mathematics. The first step in controlling anxiety is to understand the connection and just how useful statistics can be for comprehending information that has been gathered. A statistic is a representation of information, and its function is to help researchers either to organize, summarize, or understand data. The ability to describe data is essential when gathering statistics. Statistics can be broken down into two basic types: descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Descriptive statistics are a summary of information that makes the data presented more easily understood. The descriptive method is limited to only the population in which the researcher is dealing with, and only describes that particular group (Purdue OWL, 1995-2013). Inferential statistics offers a more detailed conclusion regarding the hypothesis. A benefit of the inferential method is that it can be used to take a broader view of populations, making it possible to draw conclusions about sizeable groups of people (Purdue OWL, 1995-2013). In a nutshell, the simple way to distinguish between the two would be that descriptive statistics summarize and inferential statistics draw conclusions. Both descriptive and......

Supremo Filipino Movie Reflection Paper

...Supremo Filipino Movie Reflection Paper Reflection Paper about Supremo Supremo is a Filipino movie which shows the Spanish era in the Philippines and how the Philippines fought for its independence. Andres Bonifacio was the main character of the movie because it focused on how the Katipunan, which was led by Bonifacio, formed and struggled to fight the Spanish military even though they were severely disadvantaged in terms of training and weaponry. The film also showed the devastation it left in the Philippines after the Filipino-Spanish war. The film started started out by showing Andres Bonifacio’s wife dead and a brief introduction of his past. Afterwards, a small action happened while he was helping some of his fellowmen travel into the city since their house burnt down but they were harassed and attacked by the Spanish military for not bringing their cedulas. Just by seeing this, the film wants to show us how oppressive the Spanish military were and even if their excuse for not bringing their cedulas were valid, they took advantage of them by trying to search their items even when they said that they will just go back which led to bloodshed. I think they just want to express their dominance over the Filipinos and show us that they can do whatever they want to us. To support this idea, there was also a part where they publicly killed a Filipino after judging him guilty for trying to kill a military official and said that may it be a warning to all who would think......

...Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Paper Terrance Douglas, Katie Faiman, Marika Schlindwein, Christyl Schoultz, & Samantha Sisk PSY/315 February 3, 2013 Dr. Deborah Suzzane Descriptive and Inferential Statistics Paper Have you ever noticed that we just keep moving forward? There are countless, unseen individuals who make this happen each day, but how do they operate? How do they accomplish all of this? We live in a complex world. Behind the scenes, researchers are steadily developing new theories and testing their outcome. For them, statistics serves a very different purpose. In the next few paragraphs, the role of statistics is explained as their role in the psychological community. Statistics itself is then further subdivided into two different methodologies; descriptive and the inferential (Aaron & Aaron & Coups, 2009). Each method utilizes data for a different purpose, and in each method, data may be gathered differently. Lastly, an example of each of the two types of statistics which helps the reader to distinguish clearly between the descriptive and inferential types of statistics which researchers use to conduct their work. It will further be shown how the two methods of statistics relate to each other in research. It is by understanding the two different roles of each of these types of statistics that researchers are able to gather meaningful data, which is testable and provable and keeps us on a forward moving......

...Descriptive Statistics Paper Research and Evaluation I RES/341 July 20, 2011 Patricia Towne University of Phoenix Descriptive Statistics Paper Last week, team C paper included a hypothesis that explained why gas prices were on the rise and the factors that play a part it in. This week, after further research and evaluation team C conducted intense research to support and confirm the articles that explained the different situations that involved crude oil and the reason why it plays a factor on the price of gasoline. Team C thoroughly conducted research with the help of the UOP library and many online sources to help aid in their investigation. There are numerous factors that play a part in the calculation of this data and this paper will focus on the information gathered with the use of calculation of descriptive statistics, frequency distribution, and histogram. A part of descriptive statistics involves calculating the measures of central tendency and dispersion. Central tendency involves estimates of the mean, mode, and median. The mean can be used in describing central tendency. The mode is the most frequently occurring value in the set of scores (Lind, Marchal, Wathem, 2005). And the median is the score that is found at the exact middle of the set of values. By reviewing and analyzing the central tendencies of the data the below graph will help further explain the central tendency, dispersion, and skew for team C’s data. Looking over the histogram regarding......

Movie Critic Paper

...Movie Critic Devin L. Burks University of Phoenix February 23, 2015 LUCY For some months into 2015, this movie, Lucy has been hitting theater headlines across the world. It has consistently received diversified opinions from movie critics. From what I can see on the online reviews, it has received both positive and negative criticisms from all over the world. It leaves a lot of questions than answers as to why there is so much fuss around this particular film. Confused about what to believe in, I opted to watch the movie, albeit with an open mind. Lucy is a Sci-Fiction film, filled with some action and adventure. It is about a young girl, a student, who gets involved with a drug dealing boyfriend. Her boyfriend asks her to do a single drop inside a hotel while he waits outside. But the drug lord has other ideas, he kills the boyfriend and forces the girl to transit his drugs, hidden in her stomach. The drug bag busts open and she is exposed to the drug. The content of the drug sends her brain into unprecedented over-drive, manifesting the real powers of a human brain. She acquires enormous supernatural powers; she becomes a great warrior, able to understand everything around her, ranging from languages, medical conditions to mind reading. She is also able to travel through time, from the past to the present day. The movie is faced paced, quickly moving between time. The parallel transition between Lucy’s......

...(compared with two and a half for the lightweight motorcycle then sold by Sears, Roebuck), an electric starter, and a step-through frame for female riders. Generally superior to the Sears lightweight and easier to handle, the Honda machines sold for less than $250 retail, compared with $1,000–$1,500 for the bigger American or British machines. Honda followed a policy of developing the market region by region, beginning on the West Coast and moving eastward over a period of four to five years. In 1961 it lined up 125 dealers and spent $150,000 on regional advertising. Honda advertising represented a concerted effort to overcome the unsavory image of motorcyclists that had developed since the 1940s, given special prominence by the 1953 movie The Wild Ones, which starred Marlon Brando as the surly, destructive leader of a motorcycle gang. In contrast, Honda addressed its appeal primarily to middle-class consumers and claimed, “You meet the nicest people on a Honda.” This marketing effort was backed by heavy advertising, and the other Japanese exporters also invested substantial sums: $1.5 million for Yamaha and $0.7 million for Suzuki. Honda’s strategy was phenomenally successful. Its U.S. sales rose from $500,000 in 1960 to $77 million in 1965. By 1966, Honda, Yamaha, and Suzuki together had 85% of the U.S. market. From a negligible position in 1960, lightweight motorcycles had come to dominate the market. The transformation and expansion of the motorcycle......

Descriptive Statistics Paper

...Introduction In this paper the authors will analyze the Whitner AutoPlex data using descriptive statistics. Team D will use these statistics to calculate the measures of central tendency, dispersion, and skew the data. Team D will also display the descriptive data using graphic and tabular techniques. A frequency distribution tablet and a histogram style graph will illustrate the Whitner AutoPlex data set in measuring terms. Based on skew value and histogram, a discussion of the best measures between central tendency, and dispersion will be included. Central Tendency, Dispersion and Skew The best measures of the central tendency and dispersion data are that by seeing how the order of our information tends to be that the older the consumer the cheaper are the vehicles purchased by them. With this data we can market our sales to the younger consumer because he or she tends to spend more. The tendency in this could be because older people value their money a bit more and are less willing to spend it as much as younger individuals. As a result we can look to market our advertising to a younger audience and design items that a younger audience would be willing to buy and spend money on. By using this data we should be able to maximize profits while attracting a more diverse spectrum of customers at the same time. We can continue to produce items for the population interested in purchasing currently. Information gathered from a whisker box graph shows the same age......

...Mendoza, Andrew F. Dr. Arsenia Lucy P. Dev (Friday; 4:00pm - 5:00pm) October 30, 2015 Reaction Paper: Felix Y. Manalo Directed by Joel Lamangan under Viva Films, the epic-historical-biographical film “Felix Manalo” broke two Guiness World Record (Largest Attendance for Film Screening and largest Attendance for Film Premiere) on its international premiere night held last October 5, 2015 at Philippine Arena, Ciudad de Victoria, Bocaue, Bulacan. The said film was also a major production of the church, Iglesia ni Cristo and with its whole support, the movie became more than just a successful one; it was a mega-blockbuster hit. Originally, it was a 6-hour film, but during its premiere, only the cut-short 3-hour version was screened. The film is a historical drama portraying the life of Bro. Felix Ysagun Manalo, the first executive minister of the Iglesia ni Cristo and regarded as the messenger of God in these last days. The film was shot in a sepia-like filter which gave me the impression of it being shot in an era where colored pictures have yet to exist. The soundtrack and music video of the film entitled “Ang Sugo ng Diyos sa mga Huling Araw” was released on October 4, 2015 at the Philippine Arena. It was performed by Sarah Geronimo, composed by Joan and Ryan Solitario and arranged by Louie Ocampo. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up as it played and it also moved me like how a worship service hymn would. It revolves on......

Bug's Life Movie Paper

...BUG’S LIFE THE MOVIE In the Disney movie, A Bugs Life, there are many sociological factors that are present.   First there is the difference between the leadership styles of the Queen ant, Princess Atta, and even Hopper the grasshopper.   Also, the ant colony it self portrays the differences in social groups and who is looked at as a norm based on the ants perception and those who are deviant from the colony.   And lastly, another sociological perspective that can be seen is the symbolic interationist perspective and the way one acts of deviance or norm and if that is based and if that behavior is biological or learned.   In what follows the colony of ants will be descried and analyzed through the sociological aspects of, leadership portrayed by Princess Atta, the groups that are presented by the ants and the grasshoppers, and also the theories of behavior that can possibly explain Flik’s non compliant ways of the other ants.     Leadership can be categorized in three different ways.   These ways are Authoritarian, Democratic, and Laissez-Faire type leadership.   Those who lead in an authoritarian manner are those who give orders and have things done their way and their way only.   Democratic leaders strive to gain a consensus from others and are open to others ideas before making there final decisions.   A leader who demonstrates laissez-faire type leadership is one who is highly permissive and provides little or no direction and gives others as much freedom as......

Moore's Movie Paper

...His beard is a bit unkempt, wiry and unruly. His hair is sloppily jutting out from beneath his baseball cap. Being fairly new to the movie scene, this plain manner of dress allowed him on average person, therefore, trustworthy. His manner of speaking seems to fit his image as well. His tone seem to be geared toward a broad audience. # 4) Pathos is used extensively by both films. The appeal to emotions is very strong because emotions direct people and the way that people live their lives. Emotions are very powerful, and both movies try to appeal to our emotions to persuade us to their side of the argument. Moore appeals to the viewers emotions in the inauguration scene in the beginning of the movie. He shows the protestors at Bush's inauguration to incite anger into people over the fact that Bush was elected. He also does this later in the movie when he interviews troops in the hospital. He wants people to feel bad about the troops and therefore be against the war. He also interviews the mother of a fallen soldier to appeal to people's emotions. He wants to show the pain and anguish that the mother has now that her son was killed in Iraq. He appeals to our emotions because we don't want the pain and anguish of losing a loved one, so he wants us to oppose the war so that people will not have to suffer the pain that the mother shown in the movie had. # 5) Michael Moore has very nearly become a household name in today’s politically charged society. I would even......
