My First Concert

...My First Concert Crazy, violent, confusion, these are only a few words that can describe my first real concert. I guess that makes it sound like something bad could have happened…In reality, this was one of the most fun nights of my life. The night was filled with a bunch of new experiences and memorable ones as well. I was 16 years old, was always into punk rock and the related genres, slowly transitioning into hardcore rock and metal. At the time I was not aware of the huge differences of the variety of music scenes, I was used to going to a very small local punk rock show; an environment where I knew almost everyone at the show, and more than likely the band playing as well. Well, local shows are only fun for so long. It was nearly my birthday I wanted to nothing more than to go to a real concert with names that were known by more than just the kids at my school. Sure enough I was going to get my chance! A couple of my friends were planning on going to a show, but one of their friends dropped out on them so they had an extra ticket. They offered me the ticket and I accepted in an instant! This show was consisted of 4 bands, 3 of which were on my top 10 favorite bands list. Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada and Saosin, I couldn’t believe that I was going to go see these bands live! The day of the show finally arrived, I could barely contain my excitement throughout the day, hours seemed like days while I basically watched the clock. Finally I was picked up and off to...

My First Computer

...Running Head: My First Computer My First Computer Robert Fehn Park University Introduction to Computer CS140 03 May 2005 My First Computer Introduction I began working with computers about 3 years ago. Needless to say it was a shocking experience sitting in front of a picture tube and not knowing how it worked or where to begin. I began by hitting buttons and asking question at the same time. The first computer that I bought was a new Packard Bell 486 with windows 3.1 and a Cannon bubble jet. It was more troublesome to use and I was not computer literate and I had no ideal what I had but I had a computer in my home. I was asked prior to buying the computer what I wanted put on it my answer was whatever it comes with and I had no idea what to use so the guy put some programs on it and I took it home and was in business. I would do little things at first just to try and get a feel for this thing but it would amaze me or frustrate me. I had this thing and did not know what to do with it at times I felt like throwing it out the window. The more I tried reading the book the more I got confused and I had no patience with this technology. I looked through several different computer books and that did not help. So I finally gave up on computers and left them alone for several years. After five years I found myself in the need of a computer because I had moved up in position and it required the use of a computer and everything was becoming electronic including the......

My First Day at School

...My First Day at School After a patience of six years to become the known phenomenon as a student, I suddenly felt nervousness scatter my entire body. I was lost in my own thoughts and there were nowhere to escape. The excitement and enthusiasm that had been grown since last year where my parents told me the very unknowing thing school disappeared. I didn’t want that the school should be replaced by the comfortable kindergarten with the safely settings where my friends were. I became afraid of the unconscious, afraid of the strange and I began crying. I wanted that my father immediately turned the car and drove back home, but it was too late. We were only few metres from the school. My parents told me that it would be great and that I would meet new people, and get new friends to know. I would no longer be a little boy, but instead a big boy that went to school with own schoolbag with books in it. I knew that all the things my parents told me were just for to get me more comfortable in the situation. Actually it helped especially the last thing they told me and therefore I saw a ray of hope even though the circumstances. Was it so terrible as I predicted? Maybe it was just me who was too exaggerated. I was dressed in my finest clothes and my hair was weird done with help by some sticky trash, fashionable my mother told me. N. Zahle’s School was the name of the school where I began and spent my next ten years. It was a school of good reputation where my sister......

On My First Son Explaination

...Lines 1-2 Farewell, thou child of my right hand, and joy; My sin was too much hope of thee, loved boy. * The poem begins with the speaker saying "farewell" to his child. * The speaker also says his "sin" (or mistake) was that he had "too much hope" for his son. He implies that there is some connection between his love for the boy and the boy's death. That's odd. * The phrase "child of my right hand" is also kind of funny. It implies that the speaker's son was born from his right hand (weird, huh?). Or maybe this implies something about the speaker's favoritism toward his first-born? (Think of the phrase "my right-hand man.")  * "Child of my right hand" also would indicate that the speaker's son is lucky. The right is always the good side; the left is the bad or sinister side. (In Latin, a language Jonson knew well, the word for left side is the same word that gives us sinister in English.) * As it turns out, Ben Jonson's first son was named Benjamin (just like his father), and in Hebrew Benjamin means "son of right hand." Okay, so maybe "child of my right hand" isn't so weird after all. But how many people really know what Benjamin means in Hebrew? Sheesh! * Finally, read these lines aloud. Go ahead. Nobody's looking. Notice anything? These lines are in a very famous rhythm: iambic pentameter. If you've read any Shakespeare (a friend of Jonson's), you should be picking up what we're putting down.  * Basically, an iamb is a combination of one......

My First Day in English Class

...English is an interesting subject to me, it is also very important to us especially we as students. We did nothing much on the first day of our english class but i also gain alot of things from my first day in english class. On the first day of class i got to know that my lecturer for english is Miss Yumni Yassin. Firstly we were asked to introduce ourself. Then our lecturer set some rules and regulation for us such as '' no late comers are allowed in the class'' and we can only speak english language in our english class even to our friends. Even though its hard for some students to follow theese instruction but i think setting these rules is very good idea. Because it makes us to be more discpline and punctual. Next we are given a chance to sound out what we aspect from our english class, and how to make our english class interesting for all of us. Besides that we are also required to take out a piece of paper and a pen. Then we are require to write down which part in english are we week in. After that we were asked to send the paper to her without writting our name this is because few of the students might be shy to tell about their weakness in english language because they think they will ''lose face''. Moreover our lecturer also gave us introduction about english and explain to us which part are we going to cover in this trimester for english, she also told us the importance of grammar to us. Finally we were dismiss. Eventhough our class were ''send one packing'' the......

My First Job

...Jason McDonnell Quentin Overton English 111 x April 24, 2014 My First Job  My first job was that of a cattle rancher on our family ranch. As a kid I loathed having to work with cattle, fix fence and windmills. I learned to appreciate it later in life as I thought about how the experience shaped my work habits. My Granddad grew up in the sand hills of Nebraska on his father’s ranch. Grandma wanted to move to town, so the big ranch was sold and the one I grew up on was bought. My brother, sister and I had always been expected to do chores around the house and take care of the yard. Most brothers and sisters dislike each other from time to time, but we were family, we didn’t stay mad long, or else it would end up in a hand holding session out on the front porch. I'd spend the next 18 years enslaved to there. I worked every weekend and summer often sun up to sundown. There are no days off when you have a ranch. This upbringing provided a wonderful relationship with my Granddad. As I grew older and was eventually paid $300 a summer, I started to appreciate the pride that came with having money in my pocket. More importantly, I realized we were not only feeding our family but supporting a way of life. At the end of a long hot summer day came a strong sense of accomplishment as we finished up branding 215 calves. There were many days when personal plans had to be cancelled due to an issue on the ranch. Usually it was broken down equipment, broken fence, or a windmill that......

My First Day at the Eli

...My First Day at the ELI I had never been more disappointed in my life. On January 12, 2012, I traveled to Syracuse because I wanted to learn English as a second language at the English Language Institute. Now, as I was there for my first day, I realized that my frustration had only just begun. First, My English was not so good, and there were multiple English tests to determine the suitable level for me. When the first test started, a long piece of paper like a mat was distrusted among us, and I was required to read it and write a reflection about it in an essay format within an hour. At that time, I did not know what an essay is, and how to write it; moreover, I did not understand the article at all due to a lot of academic words I was not familiar with; as a result, I did not write anything. In addition to the writing test, I had to take a listening test and answer some questions. It was very awful since I did not get anything from that long conversation. The talk was quickly, and I could not write something down. Not only there were a writing and listening test, but also a speaking test as well. It was like an interview to test my speaking skills. The only things that I answered were what my name is and how old I am, other than that, I kept repeating this expression could you speak slowly? After I finished these tests, I thought there was nothing else to do, so I started to comfort myself and forget about these tests. However, I was mistaken; I was asked to go......

My First Book

...them down. One such challenge I received was to read an entire fiction book series of at least 6 books. After a period of discussion it was finally decided that it should be a classic series for my first and it ended up being Harry Potter on popular demand. This challenge eventually ended up being one of the few challenges I ever had to encounter where I was least bit motivated to actually complete it. Seeing how little effort I put in to complete the challenge and my resistance to give up on the challenge a new condition was added limiting the time I could take to finish the challenge. The time period allotted to finish the entire series was fixed at a month so as to give me a certain sense of urgency which did not help in the slightest thanks to my usual habit of always procrastinating. At the end of the third week all I did read was the first chapter of the first book with minimum interest. It all felt like reading a regular school text book and somehow try to get through it all and finish it off. At one point the school textbooks did seem more appealing than the book at hand. Eventually it came down to just a week till the end of the allotted time. Finally during the last week I decided to finally read and at least try finishing off at least one book. I chose to start fresh from first chapter and read 3 chapters daily and finish off all 17 chapters as soon as I possibly could. Next I decided to choose a specific time of the day when I could read and maintain what little......

My First Day at School

...My mother accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the school office. Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I would be all right. It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to ourselves. Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuck-shop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty. After recess we went back to out classroom and my new friends and I managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise. Still some parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very relieved to be reunited with our parents. I too was glad to see my mother waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had been a wonderful first......

My First Essay

...My First Essay My Personal Essay I walked into the first class that I have ever taught and confronted utter chaos. The four students in my Latin class were engaged in a heated spitball battle. They were all following the lead of Andrew, a tall eleven-year-old African-American boy. Andrew turned to me and said, "Why are we learning Latin if no one speaks it? This a waste of time." I broke out in a cold sweat. I thought, "How on Earth am I going to teach this kid?" It was my first day of Summer bridge, a nationwide collaborative of thirty-six public and private high schools. Its goal is to foster a desire to learn in young, underprivileged students, while also exposing college and high-school students to teaching. Since I enjoy tutoring, I decided to apply to the program. I thought to myself, "Teaching can't be that difficult. I can handle it." I have never been more wrong in my life. After what seemed like an eternity, I ended that first class feeling as though I had accomplished nothing. Somehow I needed to catch Andrew's attention. For the next two weeks, I tried everything from indoor chariot races to a Roman toga party, but nothing seemed to work. During the third week, after I had exhausted all of my ideas, I resorted to a game that my Latin teacher had used. A leader yells out commands in Latin and the students act out the commands. When I asked Andrew to be the leader, I found the miracle that I had been seeking. He thought it was great that...

My First Experience

...be exact. I have lived in Africa all my life and I loved the African culture. I have not been a globe trotter but every part of Nigeria and Africa is pretty much the same. My first major travel experience is to come to New Orleans, Louisiana United States of America to study after spending eight (8) year in a Nigerian University (University of Maiduguri) without graduating. Everything is entirely different in this part of the world. Unlike some parts of Nigeria that currently does not want westernization including western education. I clearly see what makes America great and New Orleans the crescent city facing the Mississippi river and the birth place of jazz with rich culture. I boarded a Delta Airline to the United States to start the spring semester in Southern University New Orleans in January 2014. I looked forward to seeing the beauty of America as I’ve always see in movies. As I got off the plane at Louis Armstrong International airport (MSY), got hold of my luggage, I started to notice the difference and it dawned on me that I am over 100,000 miles away from home. Evidently, it was different out here than what I use to know. Everyone knew their way around. I barely could communicate because no one had the patience to understand my thick English accent. I tried to speak to a white lady by a corner and she walked away from me after saying “I can’t understand you”. I felt humiliated and wished I could board the next flight back to my country. America was too busy for......

...like a single-effort vertical jump. * The glycolytic system provides energy for activities of slightly longer duration and lower intensity like strength training. * The oxidative systemsupports long-duration, lower-intensity activities like walking or distance running. In recent years, exercise physiologists have learned how to target each system with specialized training to better prepare individuals for a specific event or sport. On the next few pages, you’ll discover how your body’s energy systems interact, and learn how to challenge each one so you can reach your fitness goals faster and with less wasted effort. FIRST RESPONDER: THE ATP-CP ENERGY SYSTEM Whether you’re running a 40-meter dash, jumping up to answer the phone, or catching a child falling off the monkey bars, the adenosine triphosphate–creatine phosphate (ATP-CP) system is first to respond. Among your three energy systems, it’s the one most prepared for emergencies. It kicks in whenever the oxidative system, your body’s normal method for providing energy, isn’t up to the demands you’re placing on it. All three of your energy systems ultimately run on ATP: It’s the fuel source for all your physical functions, from eating to breathing to running hill sprints. Your glycolytic and oxidative systems (which we’ll cover shortly) make most of this ATP to order, cobbling it together from the food you eat and the air you breathe as need arises. But a small quantity of ATP is socked away in your muscles......

My First Class

...MY FIRST CLASS After being a part of M.A.D. for over a month now, today I finally got a chance to teach the kids i.e. Today was my first class as a teacher with M.A.D. . . . It was so fulfilling and was a great experience. So it all started today at 8:00 AM when I woke up very excited and happy knowing the fact that from this day onwards I actually start Making a Difference. So I reached my Centre i.e. Aashiyana(Panchkula) at 10:30AM with all the books, Markers etc. The class was not for another half hour. But our team decided to go in and check in on the arrangements made by the authorities for the classes. Everything was perfect, the kids reached the classes on time and they were also super excited to learn which made this all more fun. And so our classes began at 11:00AM . After the Ice-Breaking session, it was pretty clear that my kids loved playing games, so I decided to begin my class with a simple “Sit-Stand” game. The kids loved it and after adding a few twists to the game we had a winner. The class applauded the winner with BIG smiles on their faces & hence, I began with the teaching session. The kids were so eager to learn and this curiosity for learning was clearly visible on their faces. After a brief introduction to the first exercise in the book, I was surprised to see the response of the class. Everybody knew what to answer and almost everyone wanted to speak out the answers. This was such a good feeling. The kids were themselves trying to speak......
