My Return to School

Throughout, my life I have experienced many obstacles which prohibited me from continuing my education. Realizing that certain decisions I was making started to affect the outcome of my life, it was time for me to make a change. Returning to school has been something I’ve always wanted to do. Being that I am 28 years of age; it was definitely time for me to crack down on my future stability. However, I knew my life was at a major stand still without any future plans ahead of me, so I made the decision that it was time for me to return to school.

The decision to return to school was the best decision I have made for myself in a long time. It provided me with a sense of responsibility and also gave me a view into what my future could hold. Obtaining a college degree would help change my life for the better and provide me with the knowledge I need to succeed. Becoming a more productive individual to society is what I believed would help me towards my path to change. Making right decisions was something I lacked…...

My Reasons for Returning to School

...Ronney Davis 08/30/2012 My reasons for coming to College During high school, I really did not think much, if at all, about going to college. I graduated from high school in 1982, after I graduated, I decided to join the military (US Army). I spent 10 years serving my country, but in 1992 decided to get out of the military. I moved to Philadelphia Pa, instead of returning to Chicago. I lived in Philadelphia pa for 14 years, where I worked as a chemical operator manufacturing and testing specialty chemicals for 13 of those years, but I lost my job once the plant I was working for closed. I worked odd jobs for two years, but never could find work I really wanted, so in October 2009 I decided to return home to Chicago. Once back in Chicago I could find work in the field I was looking for, so I took a Certified nursing assistant course (the job I’m working now), but Still not satisfied, so I started volunteering at my daughter school working with the staff, students and parents. I found myself working with teachers in over crowed classrooms. After the first year the school principal started noticing the work I was doing and was really impressed and asked had I ever considered going back to school and I said yes , but, and this started me to thinking . I have been around enough to know that that without education, I would never get anywhere in life, but I always found reasons for not taking the plunge, however after a lot of thinking , I realized that my reasons for not......

My School Work

...Where Was my Choice to Live or Die Criminology, The Core Susan Huhn August 17, 2011 Where Was my Choice to Live or Die It was a cold crisp day; we were on our way out of town. My sister was taking her car and my son, brother and my brother’s girlfriend was in theirs. It was Sunday mid-afternoon; the air was cool and my sister Diane and I left about thirty minutes, before the others. This was the beginning of a nightmare that would never seem to end. I guess in your life you never think anything tragic would happen, but our whole lives was about to change. The one thing I was grateful for is that we were not listening to the radio. We would have heard the tragic news in a way that would have been cold and without any concern for our thoughts. My sister and I was laughing and talking. My cell phone rang and my brother was on the other end of the line. You would have to know him; he always liked to pull pranks to scare us to pieces. But this time his voice was different, sad, like he was lost in what he had to say. I could hear him crying as he was talking, but what took my breath away was the crying of my son in the background. I was driving and I just pulled the car over and stopped. Chris is my brother, he said sis you need to go to mom’s and meet Donnie, I ask him what was wrong. This was a trip we always took and never missed it. So I knew it had to be something bad, but I did not know it was going to be this bad. I listen to those words over and......

Mr Return to School

...My Return to School ENG 121 Ava Hardiek Sept 23, 2012 My Return to School Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.” ( Quotations, 2012) I had not entertained the thought of going back to school. I felt I was too old, fixed in my ways and did not have any desire of continuing my education. I realized continuing on the road I was on, I had no job satisfaction. Have you ever felt trapped in life, not to mention felt like what is the point in doing something different? I became comfortable with how things were in my life. People have many reasons for making the choice for higher education including: increased salaries, being an example for their children or even a job promotion. My reason for returning to school is different. I am looking to change careers. I want to alter my path, which will lead me to a new direction. I will explain my reasons, advantages and what I want to accomplish by returning to school. To begin, I started my family at the young age of fifteen and I graduated from high school with two babies. My dream of being a lawyer was shattered, however I did not want to spend my life on government assistance. In the meantime, I decided to attend a vocational school to obtain my nursing degree. The school was only for eleven months. After completing the program, it allowed me the opportunity to financially provide for my family. I raised five children, working as a licensed practical nurse......

My High School Expierence

...High School was an interesting experience for me. There were plenty of good, bad, and confusing experiences. When I started my freshmen year I wasn’t 100% sure I was ready for high school. It revealed me in all aspect, the good and the bad but has built my character. My experience at Northwest High School has helped shaped me into the person I am today. While at Northwest I learned a lot about my personal qualities such as my strengths, weaknesses, work habits, and attitudes. One of the first things I learned was responsibly. Depending on how much time and effort I put in to learning in the overall class depended upon me. I learned to take initiative if I do not understand something. While working with other I had to humble myself and become receptive to the ideas and options of those around me. While in high school I also learned communication was essential. I learned how to communicate my thoughts and ideas in a formal manner. Listening and speaking were most important lessons for good communication. Although I hated speaking in front of a large group I leaned how to organize my thoughts and communicate ideas through fluent speech. Through listening I learned how to receive, interpret, and process information. Thinking and reasoning skills were something else I had to learn. I had to learn efficient leaning skills that worked best for me. I had to realize that the way I learned was not always the teachers expected me to learn. I had to find new ways......

My First Day at School

...My First Day at School After a patience of six years to become the known phenomenon as a student, I suddenly felt nervousness scatter my entire body. I was lost in my own thoughts and there were nowhere to escape. The excitement and enthusiasm that had been grown since last year where my parents told me the very unknowing thing school disappeared. I didn’t want that the school should be replaced by the comfortable kindergarten with the safely settings where my friends were. I became afraid of the unconscious, afraid of the strange and I began crying. I wanted that my father immediately turned the car and drove back home, but it was too late. We were only few metres from the school. My parents told me that it would be great and that I would meet new people, and get new friends to know. I would no longer be a little boy, but instead a big boy that went to school with own schoolbag with books in it. I knew that all the things my parents told me were just for to get me more comfortable in the situation. Actually it helped especially the last thing they told me and therefore I saw a ray of hope even though the circumstances. Was it so terrible as I predicted? Maybe it was just me who was too exaggerated. I was dressed in my finest clothes and my hair was weird done with help by some sticky trash, fashionable my mother told me. N. Zahle’s School was the name of the school where I began and spent my next ten years. It was a school of good reputation where my sister......

A Reflection of My School Experiences

...A Reflection of My School Experiences Danielle June 19, 2014 EDUC- My immersion into the education field began around 1978. Every Saturday, I would help my mother load up her car with musical instruments of all sorts, and head on over to the Community Center in one of the toughest neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Despite the grime and crime ridden neighborhood that the Center was located, on the inside, one would never know of the issues that existed on the outside. There, I met my first group of children with disabilities, children with Down’s Syndrome. My mom came here every Saturday to teach these students who were from the local orphanage, music. My job was to pass out the instruments and help where needed. The funny thing about my experience when I look back is that I NEVER saw those kids as being “different” I mean I noticed that they had mongoloid features and stubby fingers but they laughed and acted as silly as I did. I didn’t know it then, but that is when I got the “teaching bug.” They say it takes a special person to teach special education, and that is very true. My first classroom experiences may have made the toughest teacher quit. I’ve been spat at, had feces thrown on me, food tossed at me just to mention a few, but none of those incidences broke my spirit because I believed that I could, along with the help of my paraprofessionals, turn these students around. No, it wasn’t easy and I went home many a night crying and calling my mom asking her how......

With My Friends in School

...illustrator 9. Nodding – illustrator 10. Waving hand With my friends in school I did not have to go far to witness the five gestures which are emblems, illustrators, regulators, adaptors and affect displays. I just have to hang around with my friends in school and already, I can witness the different kind of gestures because most of my friends have so much energy that they move and express themselves a lot that it is very easy to detect their gestures. To be specific, we were in the campus in our favourite hang-out place: Student Lounge (Room 1132) chatting, fooling around and telling stories each other funny stories and if there is nothing new, tell recycled funny stories. We also do serious stuff such as teaching each other about school topics that one of us is struggling. The most obvious gesture that I witnessed is laughing which is an affect display of emotion motivated by fun. Laugh conveyed fun and happiness and familiarity with the person we are with which is why we laugh a lot when we are together. I can no longer count the times that my friends laugh since everybody was telling silly stories and making fun of each other. The second gesture I saw was a cross arm coming one of my female friends that we were making fun of. Again, this is an affective display of emotion but this time, it was motivated by disgust and being defensive because my friends were making fun of her. I only noticed this once followed......

My High School Life

...A belief that I have come to hold after starting high school is that private schools fall short of the most important benefits that public schools have to offer. I have learned this through my own personal experience of going to a catholic grammar school for nine years, and then transitioning to the public high school that I currently attend. Of course, the main purpose of going to school is to gain a good education that will help you be successful in the future. This belief I do hold true; both private and public schools grant this opportunity. But public schools and private schools each grant an entirely different social experience, and the social experience, in my opinion, is much more valuable than the academic experience. Along with gaining an education, part of being successful in life is learning how to interact and form relationships with people who are different from you. In grammar school, the majority of the people I met were white, Catholic, and of the same learning ability. Every day at school, students were expected to wear uniform clothes, uniform hair styles, and learn at a uniform pace. There were no accommodations for people with slower learning paces; everyone was expected to keep up. Growing up, this is how I expected all schools were like. For nine years I was almost blinded to the fact that people of different religion and learning pace, even physical appearance, even existed in the real world. But the fact is there are more types of people than......

My School

...My school is different from other schools and I love my school. I am penning down my thoughts on what makes my school different…….. Can you think of the place, where one meets children from different backgrounds, temperaments, some mischievous, some bright, some really cute. The challenge of discovering for yourself the magic of science in the laboratories, learning the skill of programming, making robots dancing to your tune in the computer laboratory, makes you feel like a magician. Could there be a better fairy land than a school which makes it possible for us to create all this? cool, where one makes friends, one plays, enjoys, learns and grows. Such a place, my friends, can only be a school! Imagine how dull our lives would be if there were no schools. The open spacious grounds to run and play, the world of books, where one lives in the characters described in them, the experience of living a life with different characters in novels. Losing oneself in them, visiting different cities, countries, reliving the past, the present and the future, as visualized by the writer, gives a completely different dimension to one’s life. Could it be possible had it not been for the school library? My school, which is situated in the heart of Hyderabad, is the place which I have described above. I love my school; it is like the blood which flows in my veins, I cannot live without it. I am what I am because of this wonderful part of my life.My school is the temple of learning which I......

...accommodate him. He argued that he is always accessible by his cell phone or computer and that he could very easily work a few hours of his job from home. To this, Norma replied that she needed him in the office because the nature of the business is unpredictable, and she did not want to be dependent on a cell phone or Internet connection to stay in touch with one of her most useful team members. With that, she closed the dialogue. When Norm detailed the conversation to his wife, it resulted in another argument. The next day, Norm decided to share his frustrations with a friend in the office. "It should not be a problem for Norma," he fumed. "She is without an immediate family and obviously does not want one. Of course she would not understand my problems."Unfortunately for Norm, as Norma was preparing to speak with him about the latest project, she overheard him. She called him into her office and gave him a reprimand.Norma's Need for OrderNorma's life has never been easy. At the age of 42, she could proudly say that she had earned her position through hard work and extra effort. It was no secret that she was one of the most promising managers and a likely candidate for a vice presidency in a few years. She knew other employees complained at that and made suggestions that there must be other reasons for her rapid advancement in the company. Norma managed to ignore the majority of these comments but once had to file a harassment complaint against an employee who had implied to......

Why Did I Return to School

...There are many good reasons why I chose to go back to college, despite it took me 12 years after graduating High school to make that choice. For example, my children are the number one reason why I am currently studying to get a nursing degree. Having an education opens many doors for me to succeed, and provide a better life for them. I want to give them the opportunity to farther their education after High School. First, I want them to be proud of me; Second, I want to encourage them to keep studying; And third, make them see that getting an education is the best decision, and they follow my example. I want to secure their future, by having a college found for both of them separately, so they do not have to worry about money for college. Another good reason is, to help lighten the Burden on my husband’s shoulders if work would slow down, or he loses his job. To go to college and get an education makes me the back-up plan to support my family. My husband is the only provider for my children and I, and I plan to change that. Furthermore, I want to make adequate preparations for our retirement plan, so my children do not have to worry about us, when we get old. One last reason is to make myself proud, to achieve a degree on a career I enjoy. Going back to school has been the best choice I made in a very long time, and all my reasons for it, makes it so much worth it....

What My School Needs

...My name is XXX and this is my 3rd year at DMAC. I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with my concentration and focus being advertising. DMAC is great for students that want to focus on digital art, fine art, and animation and video production. Classes tend to be smaller in size and most of the teacher’s actually work in the field, which I think is crucial for student to get a real world outlook. At DMAC my recommendation would be to have class on teaching students how to professionally critique fellow classmates work and how to handle criticism of their own work. Most classes require students to present their assignments or projects to the entire class and students are encouraged to give their opinions and thoughts on the presented work. This is where I’ve noticed that many students struggle or fall short. Many are afraid to comment on others work, either because that is their friend or because they feel if they say something that isn’t boosting the presented work then others would do the same when it comes to his or her turn. Students need to able to give constructive criticism in a professional manner and not be concerned about it sounding harsh or “I did not want to hurt his/her feelings”. In the real world being able to criticize presented artwork or design work in the right manner is very important as it shows knowledge in the topic and being able to make one understand where him or her can get better. The same goes for accepting criticism. I......

My First Day at School

...My mother accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the school office. Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I would be all right. It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to ourselves. Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuck-shop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty. After recess we went back to out classroom and my new friends and I managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise. Still some parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very relieved to be reunited with our parents. I too was glad to see my mother waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had been a wonderful first......
