My mother, who taught me to walk my first steps, who danced and sang with my crazily, and who has always been there for me as my support whenever needed, is my role model and has made an unforgettable impact on my life.

My mother is the one person in my life who I can go to for anything, everything good or bad. She always has my back through everything I do in life. She is the one person in my life who has kept me on a straight path to success, because she has always told me that failure isn't an option .If you set your heart and soul out to do something you must succeed in anyway possible I have Iearned from my mother to believe in god, and do my very best at everything I do. She has always told me and my brothers to treat people the way you want to be treated, and never take for granted the talents god has given you, because there are people out there less fortunate. I'm thankful for all the small things my mother has done for me, because its all the small things in life that really add up to something.

My mother is a very hard worker, she has been working all of her life, and to this day she is still working. She never complained about her life. When she was sometimes tired from work, she still makes time for her family, and makes sure that we have done our…...

What Role Does Race and Ethnicity Play in My Life

... What role does race and ethnicity play in my life? Name: Shanshan Dai The terms race and ethnicity were complicated ones to me. My attitude to these two terms was that they somehow overlaps with each other, in the sense that people from the same ethic group usually share the same race to some extent, while race is more of a exterior factor, like the physical appearance. I first try to get myself more understanding of what this means. Obviously a number of philosophers and academicians had approached these definitions in many profound ways. A simple way of definition that appeals to me is that ethnicity is used to define a group of people whose members identify with each other through a common heritage, consisting of a common culture, and may also stress common ancestry and religion, as opposed to an ethnic minority group which refers to race. Speaking of the role of race and ethnicity in my life, I guess the first thing is to identify my racial and ethnic position. My identity is not a complex one. In other words, as an Asian Chinese born and raised in China, I do not see myself has a mixed racial or ethic background. Neither part of my parents’ family has any foreign origin or family members from outsider culture. The role of race and ethnicity plays differently as I grew up, of which can be perceived into three phases – before the age of 19, when I left home to the United Kingdom for the first time; to my four years abroad in the UK; and then move to my......

The Role of Music in My Life

...Music is one of the most important and powerful things in my life. My life would be totally empty without melodies. Listening to different tunes helps me to de-stress, relax and it can also help to motivate me in trying times. I love listening to music while on my way to university, as I feel it helps me to prepare for the day that waits. I think it is like the memoirs to my life as it has been there throughout everything with me. When I was younger, I had the great love for musical as I have now. I always listened to whatever was playing on the radio or television. I had much of a care for musical compositions. There was sometimes a little bit of classical, rock, jazz, blues or pop music thrown in to the mix here and there, but that’s really all I liked back then. Whether I was in the car, the house, or anywhere else there was sure to be some The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, or the Rolling Stones constantly playing somewhere in the background. At the time I didn’t care for those genres of music much, and now as I’m older, I still enjoy them as they allow me to reminisce on memories from times of my childhood. Once I hit my teenage years music became my life and gradually started to inhibit my soul. I believe music has the ability to convey all sorts of emotion. Whether the emotion is joy and happiness or sadness and despair through rhythms, harmonies and the lyrics music shows it. The song “How Come, How Long” by Stevie Wonder is such an emotional and......

Role Model

...Many people have role models or people they look up to in their life. Whether it be a actress, super hero, sports star, or just someone you admire they inspire you and the decisions you make. For me, that person is my mom she is very beautiful, successful. Ever since I could remember she has been right beside me supporting any dream or goal I was trying to reach. When I am older I hope I could be there for my kids the way she is for me. The first thing I admire is her beauty. No matter if she is dressed casual or professional she always looks clean cut and ready for anything that may come up. She has a beautiful big white smile that can warm up a room. She has very high cheekbones, which many people wish they were born with. Her eyes are a very light brownish green color, just looking into them you can see all the love she has for others. My mom is pretty tall I would say, but not to tall. I am very lucky to of inherited my moms genes. Now my mom isn’t all looks, she also has brains. She got her undergraduate at Cal State Long Beach, and went on to getting her Masters degree at Arizona State University in teaching. She has been teaching at Rhodes Junior High for almost 10 years as a seventh grade science teacher. To this day she still loves every minute of it. She is a very hard worker and makes sure that every lesson she teaches keeps the students interested and learning. She goes over and beyond for her students and does her best to make sure everything is to its full...

My Role Model

...extraordinary influence my mother has been on my life. She's the kind of person who has thoughtful discussions about which artist she would most want to have her portrait painted by (Sargent), the kind of mother who always has time for her four children, and the kind of community leader who has a seat on the board of every major project to assist Washington's impoverished citizens. Growing up with such a strong role model, I developed many of her enthusiasms. I not only came to love the excitement of learning simply for the sake of knowing something new, but I also came to understand the idea of giving back to the community in exchange for a new sense of life, love, and spirit. My mother's enthusiasm for learning is most apparent in travel. I was nine years old when my family visited Greece. Every night for three weeks before the trip, my older brother Peter and I sat with my mother on her bed reading Greek myths and taking notes on the Greek Gods. Despite the fact that we were traveling with fourteen-month-old twins, we managed to be at each ruin when the site opened at sunrise. I vividly remember standing in an empty ampitheatre pretending to be an ancient tragedian, picking out my favorite sculpture in the Acropolis museum, and inserting our family into modified tales of the battle at Troy. Eight years and half a dozen passport stamps later I have come to value what I have learned on these journeys about global history, politics and culture, as well as my family and......

What Role Does Philosophy Have in My Life?

...What Role Does Philosophy Have in my Life? In many circumstances individuals consider Philosophy to be a very abstract field, but what exactly is Philosophy? Philosophy studies the basic nature of existence, of man, and of man's relationship to existence. What we must question is, would one be better off with or with out Philosophy? I consider that one should live a life with Philosophy. Philosophy consists of questioning man’s relationship to existence; if man does not question existence, are we just living through the notions of life? As humans we feel the need to believe in something and search for understanding. The consideration of Philosophy opened a new realm of questions. The fields of Metaphysics and Epistemology were derived from Philosophy. If not for these branches of Philosophy, how would I have known to question what I already know? How would I have been able to describe what I perceive? How about being able to explain my surroundings? It all came for the fields of Philosophy. If not for Philosophy, we would have yet to appreciate the meaning of esthetics, the study of art. We encounter esthetics everywhere we go. In the buildings we see, the words we speak, the sounds we hear, in the music we create. Simply the emotions we express throughout the day can be considered part of esthetics. One must use Philosophy to help us give reason to life, and not view it as absurd and meaningless. We all have some sense of what is right, and what is wrong. Whether we......

My Role Model

...underestimate the impact of the role model that teachers and school staff provide to students. I spent five years as a boarding student in High School and one teacher and one staff member had a profound effect on my life and faith journey. My Grade 8 Science teacher took the time to quietly talk to me after my second test which I had not done well in. He let me know that trying to fit in and thus not study for the test was not the answer – and encouraged me to do my best. His quiet, understanding approach was just what I needed at that point in my life. Even more profound was the effect of the cook on my life. He was always pleasant and polite, no matter how tough the comments from the students. It is impossible to provide food for 100 students just like mum does at home for the family. I had the job of opening the kitchen about 5 am to start getting breakfast ready. I had to go down to the cook’s flat and get the keys. He usually left them on the table just inside his room. Numerous times when I quietly slipped in to get the keys, I found him asleep beside his bed on his knees. That quiet statement about the practice of his faith has left an abiding impression on my own spiritual journey – even to this day. Something that came through very strongly in the interview with the Christian teacher who wanted his son in our school rather than in his prestigious private school, was his desire to have his son have strong Christian role models. There are excellent......

My Role Model

...My grandmother had a huge impact on my life. She always encouraged doing everything I thought I wanted to do in life. She would always say be the best that you can be in this life. My grandmother always said that I can do anything if you put your mind to it. She even said that I am a good person and can accomplish better in life. Those words along with other words have stuck with me to this day. It wasn’t a heroic deed that led me to see how she pushed me to my accomplishments. It was the deed of empowerment. That took me along way. I have accomplished a lot of things in my life. I will start with graduating from high school, becoming a licensed cosmetologist, and attempting to graduate from college with long term goal afterwards. My favorite activity or hobby does add meaning to my life. Every since I was little (I can remember being in second grade). I knew I would be a cosmetologist. I began early combing my own hair. Neither my mother nor grandmother could comb hair. I did a better job at a very early age. I then started practicing on my little sister’s hair until it became my job. My grandmothers empowering words started then when she noticed my talent. My talent has turned into my hobby because most people don’t get tired of their hobby that’s something that you enjoy. When I am off from my full-time job with benefits I spend most of the day working at my family salon. I really enjoy what I do and I’m really glad I made the choices in life that I made. I am a very......

...was raised by my mother and stepfather. As far as I remember by father was not in my life as much as my stepfather was. My stepfather is my role model, he has shown me the ways and steps of life to reach our full potential. My Father is a hard worker, he works 5am-8pm Monday through Sunday. I have never met a person in love with work as much as him. He has the choice of leaving his work early but chooses to stay to make sure everything is complete. My stepfather came to this country 18 years ago to pursue a better career opportunity. He came into business doing Mosaics with his cousin where he later became manager in that section of the company. My stepfather never slacked of at what he did. He came across problems with his cousin’s company because they were not paying him enough and so decided to open up his own business. He is very successful at what he does and has done many great mosaics all through out New York City. He taught me that you couldn’t take things for granted. Never allow people to step over you or push you down. He is still, to this day, working to pursue succession and never forgets to tell me that in order to succeed in life you need, ignorance and confidence. Ignorance to ignore people who always try to turn you down and the confidence to know that you are the best at what you do and you will prove everybody why. My stepfather is my true role model because I look at him and I see what a father figure should be. He is always there and helping my family in......

My Role Model English Paper

...to be posted on my sacred Facebook wall. While I searched, I could hear my mom vacuuming downstairs while my sister blasted her Finnish, heavy metal music as if she was challenging my mom in a battle over who could make the most noise. As this battle raged on my last nerve, I came across a website with nothing but quotes from a man named Mahatma Gandhi. I was somewhat familiar with Gandhi at the time; it was only a few weeks prior that my social studies class learned about his non-violent protests. He seemed like a pretty chill dude. I reached the end of the page. There it was, a simple sentence of eleven words: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” All of sudden everything went quiet. It was like in the movies when a guy sees a beautiful girl and nothing else in the world matters except for that girl. I shook myself out of this trance, and went about my day but in the back of my mind those words lingered, pervading my thoughts often. I could not fully grasp the sheer significance of those eleven words until I was trying to sleep one night; the day’s event were whizzing through my head preventing my slumber. As usual, my thoughts turned towards those eleven words. I had an epiphany. You see, a common thing for teenagers to do on Facebook is to complain about how nothing ever goes their way. I admit that I have taken part in this game as well, but this time it was different. I realized, thanks to Mr. Gandhi, that I have the power to live the life that I want to......

Role Models

... Introduction When we think of role models, we think of people we call mom, dad, auntie, uncle, teacher, counselor or it could even be a politician or a celebrity or somebody of that sort, but somehow they become are role models. The dictionaries definition of a role model is a person imitated by others, but my definition of a role model is somebody you admire and look up to, learn from their mistakes, watch as they become successful, you see there downfalls, but there still become your role model. Years ago when I was in 7th grade it was black history month and we were having our annual black history month project. And again I was going to do something simple and just do Martin Luther King Jr., But my teacher assigned me a different black history activist. “Lorraine Hansberry” and I remember saying to myself “Who is Lorraine Hansberry??”… Later on that day when I arrived that day home I told my mom who my black history project was and we enjoyed doing the project with me. I learned so much about her. Not only was she an activist she also was a playwright, and an author. So when I received this leadership/role-model project I knew exactly who I was doing my project one “Lorraine Hansberry”..!! Lorraine Vivian Hansberry ......
