The accounting firm of Barnes and Fischer, LLP, is a medium-sized, national US-based CPA firm. The partnership, formed in 1954, now has more than 6,000 professionals on the payroll. The firm mainly provides auditing and tax services, but it has recently had success in building the information-systems-consulting side of the business.

It is mid-January 2005, and you are a newly promoted audit manager in an office of Barnes and Fischer, located in the Pacific Northwest. You have been a senior auditor for the past three years of your five years with Barnes and Fischer. Your first assignment as audit manager is to assist an audit partner on a client acceptance decision. The partner explains to you that the prospective client, Ocean Manufacturing, Inc. is a medium-sized manufacturer of small home appliances. The partner recently met the company's president at a local chamber of commerce meeting. He indicated that, after some difficult negotiations, the company has decided to terminate its relationship with its current auditor. The president explained that the main reason for the switch is to establish a relationship with a more nationally known CPA firm because the company plans to make an initial public offering (IPO) of its common stock within the next few years. Ocean's annual financial statements have been audited each of the past 12 years in order to…...

...Running head: Client Understanding Client Understanding Paper Letitia Edwards University of Phoenix July 1st, 2013 Professor Boswell Abstract One of the most important responsibilities of accounting personnel is to ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. To ensure compliance, a new employee would need to review the firms’ current financial statements and get clarification if needed. Client Understanding Paper Reorganization of personnel is almost a constant factor with organizations. In terms of the financial statements, new employees/accountants need to gain understanding on company policy of stating transaction. For this paper we wanted to discuss four key factors: Adjusting lower cost of market inventory on valuation, Capitalizing interest on building construction, Recording gain or loss on asset disposal, and Adjusting goodwill for impairment. To explain to the client why this information is important, we will discuss each topic. First we decided which topic we would do our research on, and then we assembled all the data and analysis to create this paper. Adjusting lower cost of market inventory on valuation: Ending inventory in one accounting period will automatically become the beginning inventory for the next. For that reason and others, it is important to keep accurate information. Lower of cost or market refers to the valuation process that may result in an asset that can be reported at an amount...

Client Treatment

...Discussion 2 Week 9 Give a brief description of how you would want to be treated if you were a client seeking treatment with a therapist from a background different from your own. Then, explain what actions the therapist should take to ensure that you are understood. Finally, give a brief explanation of why acknowledging your own biases may be helpful when working with clients. As a future mental health professional being in the position of a client, that is seeing a therapist whose background is different from mine whether by ethnicity, linguistics or even sexuality I would crave for them to be understanding, non-judgmental and respectful of my beliefs and values. In reflecting an understanding attitude, it would be very important for me that the therapist displays keen listening skills; as these attitudes of listening can either assist in promoting a free flowing dialogue between myself and the therapist or build a wall which may prevent me from expressing my feelings on the challenges and issues I am currently facing. In the therapeutic relationship, it is important that the client feels that the therapist is not critical and judgmental towards them and displays a high level of "caring and compassion toward the client even if they have confessed their deepest secrets and hidden desires" (Brew and Kottler, 2008; p.115). Another aspect of being understanding on the part of the therapist is the therapist's body language. Especially with the therapist's cultural......

...My client is fairly familiar with using computers and can handle basic task. She also has some experience with using Access, but only for viewing data she receives from others. Microsoft Word is another program she is used to. She will need some basic lessons in how to use Access to add or edit data. One of her receptionists knows how to do this, so can teach her. I also recommend that she buys a manual or user guide for her and her staff to read to familiarise themselves with the software. She rated her ease at learning new skills as 7. My client can also save data as well as copy it (including to an external hard drive). The receptionists have a similar skill level to Mrs. Johnson, but rated their ease of learning as 8 and 9. They also said that they are able to handle common errors and problems. Two of the vets have some basic computer skills, but only one of them knows how to use Access. The other will need to learn from either my client or the receptionists. They both know how to use Word. The other two vets have nominal computer skills, so will need more extensive lessons on how to use the system. I would recommend that they go on a training course before the new system comes in place. My client is legitimately accustomed through by revenues of computers and can button basic task. He also partakes some experience with expending Excel, but only for broadcasting data she take delivery of from others. Microsoft Word is a not the same plug-in she is used to. She will......

...1) Client A: For Client A I would use the exploratory research as my research design. Exploratory Research entails a very informal research method, in order to gain more background information about the problem. In this case it is said “In these situations we know immediately the problem is that we don’t know what the problem is. There are many possible causes for this slippage.” After gaining their little knowledge of information they have on the cause of the market share to slip 15%, it is clear that this case would be an exploratory research. Also I would use a hypothesis in order to speculate the decline in market share in the past 12 months. Client B: For Client B I would use the Descriptive research design. Descriptive research mostly describes the answers to questions of who, what, where, when, and how. In this case Client B gives us enough information to work from. I would use the cross-sectional study. The cross-sectional study, measures in more of a large population and sample sizes. This study can be beneficial by narrowing down the time period associated with each campaign in each region, and the product category as well. Client C: For Client C I would use the Casual Research method. With Casual research, it mostly focuses on determining what will cause a change in consumer satisfaction, gain in market share, or increases in sales. In this case Client C is trying to determine what factors of their package design (size, shape, color, texture, etc.)to......

Client Understanding

...Client Understanding Paper Client: The ADT Corporation Lydia Ferdin I thank you for the opportunity to work with The ADT Corporation on this important project. As I was analyzing the papers provided, I realized that additional information is requested by your representatives. It was brought to my attention that ADT and its affiliates are unclear about why the additional information was requested on the adjusting lower cost of market inventory on valuation, the capitalizing interest on building construction, the recording of gains or losses on asset disposal, and the adjusting goodwill for impairment. The adjusting lower cost of market inventory on valuation is specified in Accounting Research Bulletin No. 43 (ARB No. 43). The Statement of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 34 is the statement, which deals with capitalization of interest as part of the cost of the asset. The SFAS No. 144 addresses the reporting and accounting for the impairment of the disposal of long-lived assets. New rules for the accounting for goodwill have been addressed in SFAS No. 142. To be able to complete the analysis of the work papers of my clients’, certain information must be obtained. To alleviate the concern of the client of why the information is requested analysis of each topic and its importance will be discussed in this paper. The adjusting lower cost of market inventory valuation is essential because through the life cycle of inventories, the inventories will decline in......

Client-Based or Client/Serer

...Client-based or client/serer Mashelle Scott IT/240 December 20, 2013 Jennifer Gonzales Client-based or client/serer After reading the scenario I choose a client/server model. Client/server networks employ one or more centralized servers that house critical information that is shared by everyone. Meaning, that it is comprised of a single central computer acting as a server that directs multiple other computers,(clients). They also provide centralized backup, which can be determined by the business. Also as a business expands a client server enables them to reach a shared database program no matter the distance. If there were to be an issue the company could recover the data and resume operations. With client/server model the servers are sometimes clustered in order to provide failover capability in the event hardware failure which avoids downtime and saves the company money. In any situation the decision to employ a client-based or client-server network depends on the business in question. If the company is a small business it may do well without a costly server, as long as there is someone appointed to ensure the backups are performed. As with a bigger business it might be more important to utilize a client-server network for the reason stated above. With a larger company it will be more important in order to provide the security and stability that a client/server network gives. For example, through encryption data can be available only to qualified......

Client Paper

...Client Paper Holly Regan BSHS/305 December 15, 2014 Cassidy Hawf Client Paper In order to be a proficient and efficient helper in all facets of the helping field of human services, the helper must first be diverse. Diverse individuals have an upper hand when it pertains to assisting client needs efficiently and their expertise in the proper helping skills to use for each range of problem. The range of problems client's encounter is addiction, homelessness, or mental illness. It is within these ranges of problems the helper must implement a variety of skills to assist the client on how to manage effectively or cope with such issues. When envisioning a client and the problems that can be attributed from the past, the present, and in the future, the helper needs to look at the whole person and not just the problems directly. “Problems for clients are rarely single issues, and the human service professional should approach each client with the expectation of more than one problem. In fact, one problem can cause, influence, or at the very least be related to other difficulties,” (Woodside & McClam, 2011). Range of Problems The range of problems that a client may face can be short-term or long-term. Short-term problems are issues such as being an unemployed or displaced worker, poor living environment, or spousal abuse can be resolved by implementing a plan that will affect each problem by creating a positive outcome. Long-term problems like addiction,......

Client Paper

...Client Paper Tabatha Jones BSHS/305 11/22/2014 Ellen Biros Client Paper In this essay I will be explaining the range of problems facing human services clients today. In the human services field, we run across so many people that are down on their luck, have hit a rough patch, or are just having a hard time providing for themselves or others. It is our goal to take these clients in and take all the negative in life that they are facing and strategize, categorize, and solve whatever problems we are able to. Ultimately coming to us is the first step that they have taken to becoming self-sufficient again, whether they see that or not. And as a human services worker, you have to realize that each client coming in has their own unique needs and goals that they hope to get out of this newfound relationship, and it is our job to do whatever we can to meet these goals, even if it means referring the client elsewhere. Given all of this, I will be only briefly touching on some areas of issues that human services clients face. And to follow, I will explain some of the necessary skills that will help a human services worker progress in helping clients try and resolve these issues. Needs It is estimated that 671,000 people are homeless on any given night, and 1.2 to 2 million people experience homelessness during one year. The numbers of homeless increased in 2008 and 2009 reflecting the economic downturn (National......

Client Paper

...BSHS/305 Client Paper There are several different problems that people face in their everyday life. Knowing this is critical to be able to understand the client and what problems the client can encounter. There are different levels of problems; some of them are small and some of them are large. The different problems affect people in different ways and this means each person deals with them in different ways. Knowing this is why there are different specific helping skills human professionals can use with clients. When a client has a problem that is letting the human service professionals know that the client is in need of help. The client can show different feelings for different types of problems. It is the professional’s job to focus on the clients problems to find a positive productive way to address their problems. In human service the problems in living have two different components. They are the description of the problems and a plan of action and this leads to the resolution. The problem can be a simple problem to a very difficult problem. The problem needs to be described and labeled such as an even, or situation that is troubling the client. The problem is identified and discussed with the client then they come to a plan of action for solving the problem. Once they know the problem and have discussed and they have a plan it is now time to put the plan in action the results will be evaluated by the human service worker. There are problems that are short term and......

...The first part of establishing a client-server network in the Home Hospice Care building would be establishing where the Access Points would be in the building for the WLAN, because the Windows 2008 server machine that is running Medical Manager is already set-up for the most part. Here is a diagram of the floor plan with the location of where the APs will be set-up. Each AP will be set-up with an omnidirectional antenna, with antenna gain features to ensure that signal is properly spread to all areas of the hospice through walls and other obstacles. I believe a wireless local area network is the best option. Next, the servers for the file managers and three-in-one printer, copier, and fax machine must be set-up. These servers will also be running on Windows 2008 standard. The file machine needs to be its own dedicated box, so that there is no extra delay for managers and employees when files need to be read, wrote, and managed. A print server set-up with one three-in-one machine would be the easiest to set-up and cost-effective as well. This would be beneficial to all employees and easy to set-up on each workstation. Windows 7 Professional edition would be the best idea for each workstation here at the company. Each workstation needs to have its own license purchased, but the benefits of having extended RAM capabilities is critical to the doctors/nurses here. Also, I think 6 notebook workstations would be a good standard for the doctors/nurses. They......

Active Ways to Get New Clients

...Active Ways to Get New Clients 1. Get the word out to family and friends in a meaningful way. I had a friend launching a business + blog who chose a method that I now love to use and help other people use: she wrote (actual) personalized + purposeful messages to each person. This may sound very “duh” to you, but make sure each time you reach out, you include: * a personal note that lets someone know this is not the same email/message 300 other people got; make a connection on a hobby, interest, desire, or need of theirs * a brief description of the type of work you are doing now and why it’s so important to you * the ways in which your friend/contact can help you (Do you want referrals if your friend knows someone in need of your services? Do you want people to share your message?) * a clear way for people to practically do what you’re asking/hinting (for example: if you’re asking for people to share your brand on Facebook, give them a brief description and picture “if they so choose to use it” . . . or if you’re asking for referrals from a good friend, give them an idea of what they could email out to others–and perhaps even give them a sweet freebie to distribute) * a sincere “thank you” for the person’s time in reading your message and in helping you any way they see fit Are you at a loss for where to pull personal connections from other than your phone’s contact book and Facebook friends list? Think of people you may know through: * volunteer......
