Chapter 3 - Homework
#2 - Compare and contrast managerial efficiency and effectiveness
Managerial effectiveness focus is accomplishing the end objective and as a result takes into thought and the up-and-downs that may change in the future.
Managerial efficiency is concerned with the current status. Thinking about the future and addition or eliminating any resources might concern the current state of efficiency.
In other words management efficiency is trying to do the things in the right way where management effectiveness is trying to do the right things.
#3 – Identify the key factors in cultural change
Information – this is to provide people with information or ability to gather information. Making information available at every level increases employee motivation and permits faster decision making.
Support – support and collaboration is from other departments when needed. Organization will then remove the fear of failure and provide climate that supports people in taking risks.
Resources – this includes funds, staff, equipment, and materials to carry out the projects.
These key factors will make the successfulness
· Understand the old culture – managers should understand the existing culture
· Follow outstanding units – recognize exemplary units and use them as a model for change.
· Encourage change in employees – encourage employees to change and improve the current culture
· Involve employees – avoid imposing culture change and instead involve employees in discovering new ways of operating.
· Lead with a vision – the vision provides a guiding principle for change, but must be brought into by employees
· Recognize that large-scale change takes time – it may take three to five years for significant, organization-wide cultural change to take effect.
· Live the new culture – the actions of…...

Crowd Funding: a Game Changer?

...I am sure that not many people remember the TV series "Veronica Mars", or for that matter, have ever heard of it, but it was a show about a female high school sleuth, with a very overdramatic plot, and sub par acting. The series ran for three seasons before it was canceled in 2007 due to poor ratings. Well, thanks to crowdfunding website, the series may see a resurrection to the big screen, thanks to a last dich effort by its creator, Rob Thomas. After failing to receive the necessary funding from studio execs, Thomas made a final push to fund the project by turning to Kickstarter. Within 10 hours of posting the initiative the project met its $2 million goal, and has, at the time of this writing, raised over $3.8 million and is still climbing. So what? Projects, including independent films, get funded on Kickstarter all the time. The big deal is that Warner Bros is the studio producing this film. That is a giant studio. Not a camera, a computer, and some basic editing software in some kids garage. This is the first time that such a film produced by a major studio has been entirely funded through Kickstarter. This could create a stir in studios. Imagine seeing the next Avengers movie on Kickstarter. How long would it take for comic book fans and action movie lovers to raise the money necessary to cover the cost of production? My guess would be probably not long at all. Studios may turn to platforms such as Kickstarter to fund project and not have to pay......

Game Changer--Globalization

...Game changer—Globalization The term “globalization” is on everyone’s lips nowadays, which is seen to be a new phenomenon in our modern society. However, when talking about its origin, it is surprisingly enough to know it was first employed in the 1930 and was entered in the dictionary in 1951, proving this idea is not new. Generally, globalization focuses on economic aspect with reference to the integrated financial markets. With the presence of free trade in the era of globalization, tangible substances as well as abstract ideas are widespread and interconnected; which has succeed in marking a change in human history. If asked to list two most predictive attributes of its success, I might suggest the hastening pace of technological change and the existence of free trade. Advancement in Internet and transport technology contributes to the escalation of globalization in the past decade. It expands the availability of telecommunication and information; facilitates remote delivery and provides new access and distribution channels; this helps to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness in conducting economic activity. For example, the use of Internet—Skype, Facetime, Whatsapp etc. makes the world shrink its size as people can simply reach out to people who are miles away. This facilitates growth of economic activities as interaction and connection between people all over the world becomes a lot easier. What’s more, the market liberalization is indeed an important......

World Changers

...World Changers Charla Fernandez Western Governors University World Changers Martin Luther brought about significant social and political change in the sixteenth century, which sparked the Protestant Reformation. “Any attempt to assess Luther’s impact must begin with his redefining of the individual” (Wilson, 2007, p.34). Luther’s personal convictions led him to attack the idea that individuals must go through a repetitive process or to a religious leader to grant them freedom from the wages of sin. He believed that the Bible was the true Word of God and could be read and understood by all people. He placed the Bible as truth above all societal ideology. Luther liberated people to think on their own, to refuse tradition as absolute truth and to research the Bible to draw their own conclusions. People liked his writings and his theology spread widely. Luther espoused that salvation in Christ Jesus was the cure for a guilty conscious or sin. He taught that a mediator between God and man was unnecessary, for each individual could commune with God directly. According to Wilson (2007), Luther translated the Bible into German. This gave the Germans the ability to read, ponder, and come to their own conclusions about how righteousness is obtained. No longer were the people kept in ignorance. Priest, monks and nuns began to abandon the Roman Catholic Church in order to pursue family life. Luther’s teachings lead to the Protestant Reformation. Luther’s followers took......

Precis - Marketer Acculturation: the Changer and the Changed

...Julius Meyward P. Occeño March 1, 2014 Marketing Management Prof. Dominador Gamboa “Marketer Acculturation: The Changer and the Changed” The global marketplace is consisted of consumers that belong to different cultures and have different behaviors, needs and wants. It is a huge challenge for global companies and marketers to penetrate different types of cultured markets and to the changes that the businesses have to adapt in order to fit in, but it can be an opportunity for them to provide a need that has not yet been realized. Acculturation, as defined in the article, is a general term that encompasses intercultural interaction and adaptation and includes assimilation of a new culture, maintenance of the old culture, and resistance to both new and old cultures. Global companies entering foreign markets either adapt the marketing mix or the separate elements of it to local markets, or they enter local markets with a standardized marketing campaign. The result is both the marketer adapts to local culture and consequently, presumptions can be made that no or little influence is made, and local consumption patterns and consequently, culture to some extent, probably adapt to those imposed by global marketing. In reaction to this, consumers do either integrate, assimilate, reject, or become marginalized depending on how they individually react to the host culture that is being introduced and how much of their home culture they retain. Integration can be seen in the...

The Game Changer in Medicine and Society

...Morgan Gadley 16 September 2014 English 1102 Zhang Marijuana, The Game Changer In Medicine and Society Is marijuana as corrupt as society makes it out to be? Growing up, everyone is told that, “Drugs are bad for you,” time and time again. Now as a kid you don’t really appreciate the reasoning behind it, but you listen to your authority figure heedlessly. I remember being told this my entire life and even to this very day. But as I got older I realized that people would still use the drugs even though it’s unlawful. I could never comprehend why someone would go against the law and endanger their life just to use drugs? But as I got older I began to realize that these people truly didn’t do any harm to the public or to themselves by smoking marijuana. Many doctors and health specialist are advocates for consumers to smoke marijuana just because of its health benefits. Marijuana is the third most popular recreational drug in America other than alcohol and tobacco, but marijuana is the only one that can benefit you the most out of the three. Alcohol and tobacco are drugs that many people have died from and harms the body as time goes by. Other medication that doctors prescribe to their patients is painkillers, and they can really kill you. According to McKnight et al. (2014), “There were 14,800 deaths from opiate overdose in 2008, according to the Center for Disease Control, and none from marijuana” (p. 4). Pain is the anxiety of disease, the symptom that reveals......

...easy to remove and apply. Decals were often applied haphazardly, making the units appear messy. To answer the clients’ need, InterMarket devised a novel “price changer” system, which enabled clients to easily display changes in the price of cases of soft drinks. Although the price changer required a distinctive grade of plastic, custom tracking, fasteners, and a specially developed adhesive, the production process fit well with the company’s current manufacturing technology. The price changer consisted of printed numbers and symbols on foldable plastic sheets set within a plastic frame. Depending on the amount of information to be conveyed, each plastic frame held between four and six foldable sheets. To change the pricing or pack information, a foldable sheet was removed from the plastic frame, refolded to the proper symbol, and then reset inside of the frame. (Exhibit 1). Pilot field tests revealed that clients were willing to pay a 20% premium for this added feature (Exhibit 2). To outfit all 10 base merchandising units, three different-sized price changer systems were needed. Unlike the base units, which required four-color, one-sided print, the price changer needed one-color, two-sided print. Since three distinct price changer units were required to outfit all 10 base merchandising units, price changer print demand was contingent on the order demand forecast for each type of outdoor merchandising unit. For the print division, the change-over from......

Payment Banks; a Game Changer in the Indian Financial Sector and a Race with Indian Public Sector Banks

...‘PAYMENT BANKS; A GAME CHANGER IN THE INDIAN FINANCIAL SECTOR AND A RACE WITH SMALL AND MEDIUM PUBLIC SECTOR BANKS’ Authors: Ajai vishnu, Adith Venugopal, Gokul Ajayakumar Abstract This is for the first time in the history of India's banking sector that RBI is giving out differentiated licences for specific activities. It has given in-principle’ licence to 11 entities to start Payment banks business. RBI is expected to come out with a second set of such licences — for small finance banks — and 10 micro lenders were given in-principle approval to set up small banks to advance loans primarily to the unbanked, small businesses and farmers, micro and small industries and unorganized sector entities which do not have access to finance from the larger banks. The idea behind the payment bank is further financial inclusion by providing small savings accounts used by payments and remittance to migrant workforce, low income households, small businesses, at lowest costs. The payment banks, as the concept is more advanced and visionary, moreover having less risks in activities, will lead to rising competitive intensity (higher savings interest rates and service standards) in the banking system, particularly for PSU banks in non-urban centres. It could be uneconomical for traditional banks to open branches in every village but the mobile phones coverage is a promising low-cost platform for quickly taking basic banking services to every rural citizen. The impact on private sector banks...
