Cruel Old Lady

I was six years old when I wanted to go to first Seattle Mariners baseball game to watch Ichiro play because he was my idle. I wanted to be like him making the big bucks and playing baseball for the Seattle Mariners. My interests have changed now, but I still wouldn’t mind play for the Seattle Mariners and making millions to lose baseball games. Besides watching the Seattle Mariners lose almost all their games all season long the games are very fun to go to. The atmosphere and energy is very exciting during the games. For my first time I had no idea of what it would be like at a game because I was only six years old and had never gone to a game. For my birthday I asked my parents for tickets to go and watch a Mariners baseball game. I had figured that I would get to go and watch because I didn’t ask for much that year because I had really wanted to go watch a game. So when my birthday came around I couldn’t wait. I was so excited to open up an envelope that held my greatest present of all time. To my surprise I had not gotten Mariner tickets, I was going to cry until I had realized that Christmas was only 19 days away so my parents were just going to give them to me then (I was hoping). So I was okay with what I had gotten for my birthday even though I had not gotten what I really wanted the most. The next 19 days seemed like 19 years and it seemed as if it would never come. I was going crazy, I was about to cry if I didn’t get my tickets for Christmas. No matter what I knew I had to be strong. I asked my parents if I had been a good child this year? They smiled and said yes. Right then and there I knew I was getting the tickets for Christmas. Christmas eve came and I was so happy, I was in the holiday sprit this year. Christmas day came and there was not an envelope under the tree so I thought I was going to get a jersey…...

Should I not take personal responsibility for my decisions and actions, or blame someone else and make excuses for something I did not complete? Once I have accepted to complete a specific task or goal, it becomes my personal responsibility to complete it. However, I must apply myself; and determination and self-discipline are required to get successfully results. I should plan carefully before proceeding to ensure the mistake does not happen again. Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility makes me accountable for my decisions and actions, especially when working toward my goals. When a specific goal is set in place whether short or long-term, it becomes my responsible for completing it with success. Like parenting, I had to change my life-style to provide a safe, nurturing, and disciplined environment for my children. This required a life of security and stability by having childcare in place while seeking and obtaining gainful employment, and making sacrifices that empowered my ability to enrich my children’s lives. ...China, which is also named “iron rice bowl” (Gross & 170 International Journal of Business and Management December, 2008 Dyson, 1996). The iron position means that the managers can keep their job all of their lives and the payment are not related to performance. The iron wage have been given also indicates that managers need not responsible for workers’ salary and the company’s benefits. The managers are not motivated as there is no extra incentive if they work hard. Therefore, the managers’ working efficiency would much lower than expected. They will commonly come later and leave earlier or even be absent to do private personal things in the working time; they will lose their technical skills and be difficult to train, after a period of time, most of the managers will strain their attitudes towards work and ultimately depreciate their personal value (Francesco & Gold, 2005). Accordingly, when foreign multinationals start running business in China, they had encountered many difficulties in human resource management, and found that attracting qualified managerial staff in China is a challenge. 2.3 Compensation and benefits Employed compensation and benefits system is another factor that influenced the human resource management for multinational companies in China (Tian, 2007). Watson Wyatt had conducted a survey in China recent years, and finally found that the dominant reason for local Chinese qualified staff to leave their company is to find a better-paid job......

...Its Personal! Eng:121 June 23, 2013 It’s Personal! A Look At Privacy In The 21st Century There is no doubt that there is a lack of privacy in the 21st century, but is it our choice? How much is under the control of our own actions and how much is implemented by the government? Surely there is good that comes from having an “invisible” eye watching and recording certain daily actions, but are we more susceptible to threats because some of our privacy is literally stripped from us? I never got a choice if I wanted google earth to take a picture of my house to display to the world, or my name and family history to be available to anyone that googled it. Criminals are off the street because of cameras, terrorists are being tracked by computer, and it sure is nice to find old friends by looking online. The 21st century has introduced us to new technology that makes our lives a little easier however, privacy seems to diminish with every click of a mouse. Perhaps we can argue that the use of advanced technology is threatening our fourth amendment rights. Privacy is a concept that has been interpreted in many different ways. “In the United States, the concept of privacy has evolved since it was first articulated by Justice Brandeis in 1898. His definition of privacy-"The right to be let alone" (as cited by Berman & Bruening, 2001, Para 6)- has been influential for nearly a century (Berman & Bruening, 2001). This definition seems to give a good definition of......

Personal Responsibility

...Personal Responsibility Courtney Cerniglia GEN/200 December 02, 2013 Lisa Foster Personal Responsibility Imagine your life if you did not take any responsibility. You never turn anything in on time, you don’t feed your cat, and you do not wash your socks. You would fail your class, your cat would be hungry, and you would stink. That life would be a chaotic one, so while it may seem difficult to learn personal responsibility, it is most important because the choices you make early in your education, influence your success in your academic career. Everyone needs clean socks, right? “Response-ability” Personal responsibility is simply a person’s “response-ability,” that is, the ability of a person to maturely respond to the various challenges and circumstances of life (Thomas, 2012). Look at it this way, if you are not willing to take personal responsibility, your giving up your opportunity for personal growth. Personal responsibility is also taking responsibility for your actions. In an article written by Ron Haskins, who is a senior researcher in economic studies, he stated “students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity” (Haskins, 2009). We as a student need to realize that we control what grades we make, what and how much information we take in, and how much time and effort we want to put into our academic careers. Life Experience Let me give you an example of......

Personal Computer

...Personal computers are now a very common item in many houses yet in 1955, there were only 250 computers in use throughout the world. In 1980, more than one million personal computers had been sold and by the mid-1980’s, this figure had risen to 30 million. How did this come about? A computer in 1955 was very large and could not have fitted into a normal room in a normal sized house. They frequently burned out and had a tendency to attract moths into the system which short-circuited them. (Getting a computer ‘bug’ now refers back to the time when moths were a problem to the early computers). In the late 1950’s, computers got smaller because one of its main components - the valve - was replaced by the much smaller transistor. These made computers far more reliable and therefore businesses took a much greater interest in them. Firms such as IBM could sell a mainframe computer for just under £½ million pounds in today’s money. By the mid-1960’s, the microchip was replacing the transistor. A microchip could have several transistors on it. But being smaller, it lead again to a decrease in the size of computers. By 1965, there were 20,000 computers in the world. The most famous was the IBM System/360. The microchip also leads to computers being made that were small enough to get into the average sized room in a house. By 1970, one microchip could contain 1000 transistors on it. In 1970, a home personal computer would have cost nearly £70,000 in today’s money. In 1971, the......

...importance of personal data protection online. What potential problems are there and what solutions are available to the individual? Various researchers have evaluated the importance of the Internet, but little attention has been paid so far to online personal data protection. (Donald et.al, 1997) The purpose of this study is to introduce some potential problems of the Internet, the importance of online personal data protection and some solutions. The paper is structured as follows: the first section will present some background of the Internet, the second part will show some potential problems, and the third part will introduce the importance of online personal data because of the potential problems. Finally, this paper will introduce some available solutions. At present, the Internet has become an indispensable part of people’s daily life, because it can be used to communicate and do business with others. For example, “in 1996, Internet shopping revenues for U.S. users, excluding cars and real estate, were estimated by Jupiter Communications, an e-commerce consulting firm in New York, at approximately $707 million but are expected to reach nearly $37.5 billion by 2002” (Achs, 1998). However, a lot of problems of the privacy of personal information have caused people's concern and make them less confident about the Internet. The first potential problem that causes people’s concern is cyber-thief, because it is one of the most convenient method to obtain personal......

...ALLASO RANCH Do you have special talents about yourself or accomplishments in your life that have affected you and who you are in life? Many might not know that our special talents and accomplishments really show who we truly are. What most people don’t realize is that everything that we experience can affect us both positively and negatively; we can learn from every experience in life. In my life I have been blessed to accomplish many things, but there is one experience in particular that has impacted my life and many others around me. At the end of my sophomore year of high school I got my first job at a place called Allaso Ranch. It is an 1100 acre camp and retreat center that my church owns in East Texas. I applied for the job at the age of sixteen, and they hired me when the hiring age is actually eighteen. During my interview I was told that this job would be a lot of hard work, and they didn’t know how I would do at my young age. Due to several high recommendations, I received I was hired for the job. I am the youngest employee they have ever hired. Before my job began, I had to be trained and certified as a lifeguard. The beginning of the summer I started working as a lifeguard. ...Brandon Kasinger Tmgt-3347 10/27/2014 Personal Ethics Ethics is what truly defines a person or company. In our world today, everyone is governed by a complex of moral principles and values in which they believe in. That’s why everyone in the world is unique we all have different codes of ethics that make us the individuals that we are. We all have different opinions of what is right and what is wrong. Did you think it was right when Germany invaded Poland? Well Hitler certainly did. But why do we think differently? What makes a person different from one another? What makes me, ME? What you personally believe is morally good and the values that you have as an individual is known as personal ethics. Each individual’s personal ethics are defined by what they have gone through and their past experiences. I believe the biggest impact on a person’s ethics is how they were raised and this is because of the impact my parents had on me. My mom always told me honesty was one of the most important qualities a human being could have. She believed that honesty was what people use to build any relationship. By being honest you will make those around you feel as if they are exposed to your true self. Thus, making them assured that you truly value their relationship and make a bond long lasting. By her definition a lie will put a relationship, rather it be business or person, in jeopardy. For instance, when I was in high school I lied to my mother about staying after school to......

...Individual personal statement Over the course of the facilitation module I have learnt many things, whether it be through work in class, through my own wider reading or my own personal experiences being a participant. One thing that has become clear through my reading of Boal's games for actors and non-actors is that facilitation is a platform to allow anyone to experience drama. I found this very interesting as using facilitation in this way shows the positive ways in which drama can be used. I felt that this was an important idea, especially as the purpose of our workshop was to bring drama to an age group that might not have had a chance to experience it. Although our group was not on the same calibre as the groups that Boal's in the theatre of the oppressed it is still just as important for them to experience drama, “Even if they had all been homogeneous groups I feel that this introduction would have been necessary” (Boal,1992) this clearly shows that it is important that we use facilitation in this way. Although I missed a section of this module, due to health reasons, I feel that I have tried my best to put in an equal effort towards to outcome as my peers. I have tried to use my own experiences being a participant in workshops myself and also my experience being a facilitator at a local drama school to influence my decisions in the planning and development process. As I was working with children of a similar age, I felt that this influenced the way I worked in this...

...MSc Leading Learning and Change Quantative Analsyis Assignment: Personal Reflection Serren Callister 106533 The following document outlines the process that was followed to complete the quantitative assignment during different stages and my learnings and reflections throughout. Learning Statistics: I was extremely concerned initially about the quantitative (statistics) aspect of the course, as I had struggled to fully comprehend the purpose and power of statistics and result interpretation during my initial bachelor degree. I was relieved when the first lesson contained material I did remember and understand! After the first session it became apparent that prior exposure to statistics varied across the cohort, requiring repeated explanations using different analogies which each member of the cohort assisted with to ensure that we all understood each option presented. I felt that the introduction of different statistical concepts in each session was disjointed but individually manageable. However, it wasn’t until during the assignment that I understood how the various statistical methods could be applied to a single data set to provide meaningful results. It would have aided my understanding to have built the statistical methods being studied into an overall framework as it was difficult to understand how each of the statistical models could help build up a picture and be used to determine findings in conjunction with other methods. For example,......

Personal Responsibility Is Personal

...Personal Responsibility is Personal T-ata DeHart-Williams GEN/200 June 20,2012 Lois Blyden Personal Responsibility is Personal Personal responsibility begins with an individual being solely accountable for one’s words and deeds, as a result of centering one’s thoughts on a set standard of beliefs and with proper implementation, a personally responsible person can succeed in college and achieve their goals. William E. Henley (1888) captured the essence of personal responsibility in the last two lines of his poem “Invictus”: “I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul” (Henley,1888, A Book of Verses). Every individual is at the helm of their own triumphs and just as censurable for every defeat. The level of success we obtain is a direct result of the amount of personal responsibility we practice. Each individual was created for a specific purpose that can only be fulfilled by them. Personal responsibility is not a team effort. This paper will provide my definition of personal responsibility and how it is connected to my college education along with my plan to practice personal responsibility in my quest for higher education. Accountability is key The key to having personal responsibility is accountability- willingly accepting responsibility for one’s actions. It is also important to be able to recognize one’s flaws and shortcomings. The ability to admit the...

...100% “Hey man you’re up after this heat.” I nod my head and thank my coach, upbeat music pounding through my headphones. I felt like I had been sitting on the same metal chair for a lifetime just waiting to be called. I stand up and stretch one last time. I quickly grab my ankle and pull my leg up, feeling the strain of the muscle as it slowly stretches out. “Quads, hamstrings, and shoulders” I quietly said to myself, a phrase coach Marsh always had us repeat in our dry land warm-ups. The loud electronic noise of the buzzer blares through the whole aquatic center, bringing everyone at the edge of their seats as the first heat begins. The whole crowd sits totally engaged in the ongoing 200m . I begin to walk over to the stands and prepare for the 100m breast stroke. Ever since I was a young child I had loved being in the water. In the neighborhood I lived in I was able to go to the pool every day in the summer, and it became a second home to me. Many long days were spent at the YMCA pool in Cornelius where I would play common pool games and compete in races with all the other kids. As I grew up I continued to stay in the water with the introduction of new hobbies such as surfing and wakeboarding. After what appeared to be ages, senior year came around and I decided I wanted to swim competitively for my school, something I had never done in the past. After training for a couple of months I found myself doing well and after a great season I ended up swimming in our......
