Neither success nor failure depends on the complexity of a plan. It is quite the reverse. Success depends on the planner and the execution of the plan. An ethical strategy and motivation play important roles in achieving accomplishment. In addition, setting short- and long-term goals, establishing and utilizing a list of resources, and continual improvement are equally important. My personal plan for success is relatively simple. I will not compromise my values or morals to achieve a position in my professional or academic life. By continuing to base my decisions on what I believe is good and right, I will succeed in life as a whole. I would rather fail in both by treating people with the same respect and extending the same courtesy I would prefer, than to succeed at either. Honest failure is far more rewarding than deceitful or manipulative success. By carefully analyzing various opportunities, I will consider the possible impact on all who are involved. The main source of motivation is my family. Earning my degree will create openings that will allow me to provide a better quality of life for them. Setting and achieving goals will also help me stay motivated. The short-term goal of finishing my classes thus far successfully has motivated me to continue with the pursuit of a degree. My long-term goal is to become debt free long before I retire. To stay motivated during the process of achieving goals, I will manage my time to avoid stress. I, like many other students, have a hectic lifestyle and schedule to say the least. My cell phone, wall calendar, and appointment book are very valuable in my daily life. I write everything that has to be done by a certain date on my wall calendar. I set alarms a week in advance of due dates in my cell phone to remind me of tasks that need to get accomplished. By scheduling times to work on my assignments…...

In order to achieve any of these goals, I have to start by getting a university education that will serve as the foundation of these personal and professional goals that I have set for myself. But my personal goals do not end there. I have started to take the initial steps into creating a better studying environment where I will be free of distractions and ergonomically correct to avoid injuries and musculoskeletal disorders which are common in computer users like students and people in my field of study and career path, software engineers. I have purchased an extremely comfortable chair rated for use in a range of five to eight hours consecutively, which allows me to be pain free in my lower back area and take less breaks from studying because of the pain and now my breaks are more enjoyable. Time management has been a problem since childhood. I am a huge procrastinator. I find any excuse to leave assigned tasks for the last minute. Sometime I even analyze it as that I need the pressure to function better, but I know that it is just a rationalization to not see the truth, that I lack academic discipline. I have come up with a solution. I......

Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal Responsibility and College Success When a student makes the decision to commit to a college education, they must be prepared to take on certain responsibilities. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizational skills and time management, goal setting, and follow through. Frequently students fall short on these responsibilities and attempt to blame others for their failures. The student must realize that they alone are responsible for reaching their academic goals. The best way to predict how a student will perform in college is by using their high school grade point average (Haskins, 2009). The grade point average is a good indicator of the students’ level of commitment and personal responsibility toward their education. Students who have performed well in high school show that they have the potential ambition and personal responsibility to excel in the realm of higher education. Personal responsibility can be defined in many different ways to different people. In Ron Haskins article written in 2009, The Sequence of Personal Responsibility, he states that “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity” (paragraph 3). Another view is that personal responsibility requires self awareness of a person toward their personal success (Mwangi, 2012).......

...Introduction Personal Goals Playing to Your Strengths Building on My Competencies Conclusion School is a tool that allows you to be in control of your success or failure. You must match your pursuit of your degree based upon your strengths and not allow your weakness to hold you back. With goals, interest, and competencies guiding us into career development, I had to ask the hard question, “am I qualified to own a business after getting my Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting?” In the pursuit of our dreams, we have to remember to keep our integrity intact as the college environment will present many opportunities that will force us to choose. Make sure to use every resource and opportunity available. Allow mentoring by instructors, classmates, academic advisors, and people in your field of study that can help guide you to your goal. I had to make the correct decision for me because I was in control of success or failure. Being married with a stepson and working fulltime meant that the traditional college road was not the one for me. The University of Phoenix was the perfect choice for me in pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Accounting. It would allow me to continue to work and get a degree in an online setting. I knew that there were not many opportunities in my area for a career in a large corporation. And while I could work at a local firm, my plan was to own an Accounting firm. A gigantic step I was undertaking but had believed that I could do it. It was......

...My Success Strategy Plan Stonnie Bell Colorado Technical University Online UNIV101 09/08/10 Success Strategy Plan Step 1: Student Success Strategies The Three strategies that I am using from the success strategies guide are to stay motivated, choose a great study environment, and to do the hardest or my least favorite task first. The reason that I chose these three strategies are that staying motivated is key, without motivation you will not have the drive or the desire to accomplish a task and keeping my eyes on the prize is all the motivation that I need. Choosing a great study environment is key for me because this will limit my distractions and sitting in my favorite chair is very important because it makes me feel comfortable and when I feel good I tend to have a positive outlook on doing my work. And lastly I chose to do the hardest assignment first because it usually requires the most attention and when I get to easier assignments I will find them even easier and will feel good while doing them because I will not have to stress over doing a harder assignment next. Out of these three the most beneficial to me is staying motivated because like I said before without the motivation to do a task it will more than likely not get done and if it is completed it will not be up to the standard set by the instructor. I have changed my routine greatly since beginning school, for instance I don’t go home and play video games or watch television like before. I have...

...Personal Plan for Success Sadie Miles Argosy University Section 1: Academic and Career Goals (M1 A3) My career goals consist of being the best photographer I can while getting my degree for substance abuse counseling. I have different goals for both of the careers I plan on holding. I want to be done with my degree and working within the next 4 years, I want to make a difference in people’s lives. I know I can’t save everyone, but my goal is to definitely save as many as I can. For photography, my goal is to have my name out there; I want to shoot more than just friends and family members. I want to hopefully have my own little photography business on the side. Section 2: Organizing your Time for Success (M2 A2) I love to be organized. It makes me feel like my thought process is allowed to flow freely, I don’t like clutter, and I don’t like rushing things. So I keep a day planner on my desk right next to my lap top so that I can open it and know what I have going on for that day. I have everything in my planner; my work dates & times, important events for that day, due dates for school. Sadly with how much I work, it’s hard to get in some good study time. Personal Responsibility and College Success

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Andrew More Gen/200 August 20, 2012 Prof. Cassandra Smith Personal Responsibility and College Success Personal responsibility for me is an important concept composed of three parts. It is a continuous process, starting with the recognizing of social standards, which leads into the formulation of a plan as an effort to comply with these standards, and ends with the acceptance that failures are a direct result of my own shortcomings. These components are every bit as important as the whole, all intrinsically tied in with long term college success. Personal responsibility commences with the recognizing of social standards. People do this automatically without even knowing it. It is the constant desire to fit in, the interpretation of what is socially acceptable or not. This is where I choose what social group I wish to belong to. Each social group has its own different set of standards, yet they are always polarized into success or failure. My understanding of these standards is the basis for my perception of what failure is, and what success is. According to Haskins (2009) “When applied to education, personal responsibility means that students accept the responsibility to study hard and to learn as much as they can in courses that press against the limits of their capacity.” It can be said that students in general wish to be perceived as successful. The first thing I as a student do is evaluate what success......
