Our nation has gone to war and it’s my turn to go. This war we are engaged in to me is unjust but it’s my civic duty to my country to go and fight. After learning about Socrates I begin to think what would he tell me? Socrates being a man of principles would tell me to go and serve my country on the front lines. He would let me know that this country has given me all that I have earned; all that I have gotten why now would I turn my back to them if I agreed to live in this country all this time. Today I believe even though there is no “draft” there is still a big dilemma when we go to fight in wars that many people may have. It s funny to hear people complain about all the wrong or unjust things we as a country are doing in the wars we are actively involved in today but they do not complain about the society they live in with freedoms, equality and the pursuit to happiness. I would go and put my reservations aside to serve my country if drafted. To me it would be what I owe to the place that allowed me to prosper, educated me and groomed me. After reading the Crito it’s so many things we take for granted that is provided to us. No one is held against their will in most of today’s society to stay in the country they live. They may not have the means to leave but they are not forced. When your country come calling whether it’s to be a productive citizen or to become a solider I believe it’s your duty and what is owed to them to answer. In the case of Socrates I believe it would have been unjust for him to escape. He said it himself in the Crito that he had the opportunity to offer up an alternative punishment such as exile. He chooses to stand trial because of his beliefs. Being tried and convicted is the risk of standing trail, to run and go against the decision of the court would send a big message to his nation. Socrates was a well known man by escaping he…...

...Week 1 Assignment: Critical Thinking John Calderara PHL/458 July 16, 2012 Dr Mc Carthy Week1 Assignment: Critical Thinking Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations. While working on how to streamline maintenance requests, it was decided that the unit should introduce a work-order form that would allow the unit to send their request directly to the field service representative (fsr) to see what maintenance was needed and what parts may be required. Many of the FSRs would receive a higher load of work because the units were accustomed to their work, which often left some hurrying to finish tasks and projects whereas others were working very little. When the form was first released, it was created in a Word document that had to be emailed to the FSR. This was somewhat problematic because the emails were not sent to a central office, some requests would receive a higher priority based on the time of receipt, rather than on urgency as it was originally designed to process. It would have been better if the lead FSR received requests so that he could prioritize the requests. It would have been better to place the form online so that units would have access to it online, and could send their request in without......

...Solve a Problem PHL/458 Solve a Problem A current problem that is plaguing law enforcement agencies to include my own is the lack of manpower for the department, on the road and in the office. This topic will be discussed within this paper using the different techniques through the creative process and problem solving. There will be different ideas on how to remedy this situation from the most logical to some that are farfetched. This problem has become more of an issue with the citizens of the jurisdiction I work in. Stages In The Art of Thinking, Ruggiero says the four stages are searching for challenges, expressing the problem or issue, investigating the problem or issue, and lastly producing ideas. Searching for challenges are those that are right in front of us or they may be subtle and need to be tweaked a little. The challenges may not be a challenge at all, “there are no problems or issues at all, only opportunities to improve existing conditions” (Ruggiero, 2009). In expressing the problem or issue it may be necessary to state the issue many different ways. The text states, “different expressions open different avenues of thought” (Ruggiero, 2009). The thought provoking ideas behind this statement allow different individuals to think about a wide array of solutions for a single problem. The more ideas generated the easier it is to solve, potentially. The third stage is investigating the problem of issue. It is pertinent for the person......

...Critical Thinking and Society Exercise PHL/458 10 February 2015 Describe a situation in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome. Describe why it is important to think critically and creatively in similar situations. A situation, in which critical and creative thought could have been used for a better outcome, is when investors were making decisions about the purchase of real estate. In 2006 the real estate market was giving signs of weakening where prior to that year it was booming, but investors were not thinking critically and creatively instead, they were greedy and they let greed make decisions for them. To make matters worse lenders where very aggressive in their lending protocols while no one in the government was watching. Investors continue to buy in frenzy at high prices, even paying over the listed prices for properties. Then came the market went bust and investors were stuck with nearly worthless pieces of properties. Had the investors even consider one or two worse case scenarios, their net worth could have been preserved, instead we saw how thousands of properties started going into foreclosure. This was a hard lesson to learn but today the lending rules have changed thanks to a revamp of the lending practices. By thinking critically and creatively the government has tighten the screws on a much unsupervised system. Define free will, truth, knowledge, and......

...Critical and Creative Thinking in Society Short Essays Joshua T Lemmerman PHL/458 April - 13 - 2015 Matthew Fallesen Critical and Creative Thinking in Society Short Essays A couple months back there was a gentleman by the name of Eric Garner. This man was from New York and got into an altercation with police. Eric Garner was no angel, but he was not complying with the police officers. One of the police was given an order to subdue the gentleman via chokehold. Eric had asthma and the chokehold ultimately ended his life. Now the public is completely appalled and sickened by events like these. We are not police and sometimes we do not understand how hard their job really is. This situation could have had a completely different outcome if the police had actually had a critical and creative thought process before the chokehold order was given. It is hard because the police did not know this man was asthmatic, but they went off instinct and were trying to detain the gentleman from moves they have been taught. The police in this situation did not use critical thinking to their advantage. Instead they trusted the orders that they had been given. This entire situation could have been avoided by simple critical and creative thinking. They did not evaluate the issue in order to form their judgment. There was no evaluation thought at all, just the simple fact that they were given the order to use excessive force and it cost Mr. Garner his life. If the police would have been able......

...Solve a Problem Paper PHL/456 August 15, 2011 The creative process includes four different steps. I will discuss the four different steps in this paper on how to change a flat tire on the side of the road. These steps includes, Searching for Challenges, Expressing the Problem or Issue, Investigating the Problem or Issue, and Producing Ideas. Each stage has a specific duty in the creative process. The first stage of the creative process is Searching for Challenges. Creativity is where we as people are meeting challenges in and imaginative, original and effective way. As people challenges are often needed to be sought out. These challenges come to use in the forms of obvious issues or problems. For an example you allow your friend to use your car to go back and forth to work. Your saw your friend a few time with someone else in the car and follow and saw she was taking someone else home. The second stage of the creative process would be Expressing the problem or Issue. The purpose of this stage allows you to fine the best expression of the issue or problem that is occurring. In other words the most helpful ideas to help solve the problem or issue that you are experiencing. For example you are traveling and your car has a flat tire. You have a spare but do not know how to change it. What would you do? The third stage of the creative process is Investigating the Problem or Issues. This stage of the creative process allows you to gather the information......

...PHL/320 University of Phoenix Robert Sparks June 4, 2015 Critical thinking- The art of exploring questions that focuses on how we think- not what we think; which guides us to improving the way we think. Simply put it is the process of improving the way we think while using certain skills such as having the ability to analyze the information we receive to be able to process, assess and become a critical thinker. One must possess the ability to reason, thus critical thinking allows one to make sound, rational decisions based on the information received as a result of asking probing questions and actively listening for the answers. This way of thinking will offer one more control of their decisions; allowing them to learn by simply inquiring. I have had many debates with close friends about my way of thinking. I was once that person who knew what she knew and would conclude based upon my own knowledge and understanding of how I thought things or situations were supposed to conclude and how one will need to proceed. This way of thinking usually came to life without fact and an overflow of baseless assumptions. Yes, I know this was an awful way of thinking but I am being honest. I was that person who would not ask questions for understanding. I was stubborn and refused any guidance or teaching on the topic. Then I met my match. I found myself toe-to-toe in the ring with as accomplished thinker. My friend helped me to think outside of my box and to cut ties with my......

...Nature of Thought Processes University of Phoenix PHL/251 Nature of Thought Processes The brain is one of the most prevalent and studied organism within the human body. The processes of thought and everything around anyone situation is different. Rather a circumstance around a predicament is the same for two individuals; ones perception versus another can be analyzed completely in a different mindset. The way beings project certain situations within their environment can uphold the title of who that being might become in their future. Thinking is what makes functionalism a reality for any being that is living in society. Without the standards set by organisms that have brain cells, life would not be possible and chaos would occur. This is what makes all beings on planet earth individualistic and unique. Also factoring the realization that even twins of any kind, fraternal and even identical may grow up with completely different personalities although they are from the same origin or cell. The nature of thought and how the thinking processes are perceived from one to another within one’s life may vary dramatically. Thinking is mandatory along with necessary to any individual for bettering one to familiarize themselves to any situation that is in front of them. Humans throughout time have acclimated themselves whether they knew it or not. Within the human race, thought is the process of trying to perceive, analyze, and comprehend about a situation. Every one......
