Addicted to electronics, and its side effects

Today technology is evolving rapidly and shows no sign of slowing anytime. While this is happening many people are starting to adopt the new technology and this affects their kids. There are debates that currently say that kids are using too much technology which relates to a number of different issues. Figuring out what problems are occurring from too much of this electronic use can do to a person is what I tend to find in this essay. Many people believe that electronics are great learning tools, as with many electronics this is true however there is still a gaming or addictive side of this. There are also the electronics that have no educational aspect to them what so ever. So, should kids be limited to the amount of daily electronic use? The average kid sponges in 2.5 hours of music each day, almost five hours of TV and movies, three hours of Internet and video games, and just 38 minutes of old-fashioned reading, according to a new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation. That adds up to 75 hours of media every week. And that doesn't even include the hour and a half spent text messaging each day, and the half hour kids talk on the cell phone. “The cell phone or smart phone is a common fad now days, everywhere you go more and more kids are getting them. This is the device that is causing all these issues with kids. Studies have shown that the more a student is involved in their electronics have an average grade around a “C”. This is due to the fact that kids can always have that access to things away from home, during lunch, study hall, and on the bus.”(World News. 2010) It’s more than just phones, regardless of the device there are still issues that arise with over use. In the past, medical science looked purely at the physical effects of electronics on humans: The…...

...Position Paper Communication Ethics Macon Borne Dr. Carlson is facing a situation involving Michaels present and future that needs to be handled with the five values of ethics. In the paper I will try to explain how three of the five ethical values would help to make the communication process of Michael’s options easier on Dr. Carlson. Truth, integrity and care seem to be the three ethical values that fit this situation. Truth is how accurate and how reliable the content of communication is. Truth, in my opinion, is the most important aspect of communication. Most, if not all, relationships between people are based on trust, which is how we rely on the accuracy and information exchanged between persons. In the situation regarding Michael, Dr. Carlson should be truthful when explaining to Michael his options. Dr. Carlson needs to tell Michael that his body systems are slowly falling and that he is having difficulty breathing. Dr. Carlson needs to tell Michael the full extent of both options. Explain that the more aggressive option is to put him on a ventilator to help him breathe and that he would probably die on it. Explain that the second option is to administer him morphine. The morphine would ease the pain but not help him breathe; this would cause him to slip into death with less pain. Dr. Carlson should also explain that each option as a very slim chance of helping him rally and live, for at least a short while. If Dr. Carlson gave Michael all the information......

Social Contract Position Essay

... Social Contract Position Essay Monique Stephens September 8, 2013 Instructor: Michael Crandell Course: HCA-255 | Health Policy and Health Economics After reading the old social contract it made me think about how healthcare is today and the obstacles that citizens face today to have coverage for healthcare. I feel that the government is trying to move in the correct direction in creating a new social contract, but before that can be done; everyone needs to review and evaluate the things that went wrong with the regulations previously and either alter them or create new rules. I feel that the Affordable Care Act is one way that things are improving regulations into a new social contract. If I could create a new social contract, I would start by figuring out how all citizens would benefit from a universal form of insurance coverage. Then I will see how each financial class will be able to contribute to the healthcare plans without having an increase in taxes and other things. If states still wanted to have forms of Medicaid and Medicare, I would try to set new regulations, definitely for Medicaid. I feel that individuals that are currently on Medicaid and other form of government assistance, do not fully need it and can be independent in some ways. Some regulations I would make is that recipients have to be working to contribute if they are able to and there will be programs to assist individuals to get on their feet to help them obtain a form of the universal......

...Position Throughout this semester I have found myself jumping back and forth from Interpretive and objective so I have narrowed my position to somewhere closer to the interpretive side. I would start with the traditions that I feel really resonate with my position. The first one is the critical tradition. This is where my interpretive side comes in. I find myself questioning a lot of what media puts out there as important or just entertaining. For example, when there was Heavy coverage of the Casey Anthony trial a lot of people may have been misled into thinking that was what was important at the time, but in the greater scheme of things it really should not have plagued the news stations like it did. I realize that things like that are really distractions to keep people unengaged. The sad thing is that I have fallen victim to those distractions and I feel it is a struggle everyday to try to find a way to promote change or at least get other people realize what is distracting them. Now on the flipside there are a lot of people that are aware of the foolishness that is out there but are content with the status quo. I feel that is something that will always be issue, but if feel through proper education that can be reduced greatly. I also don’t follow blind empirical evidence because there is ways to manipulate testing to push a certain agenda. Now this is where my objective side starts to step in because although I wont follow quantitative evidence solely that doesn’t mean...

...Determining your perfect position A Team Leader would be my perfect position. Team Leader has to be able to lead employees and guide employees, have knowledge of the department, read engineering prints and understand them. A Team Leader also needs to have knowledge of processes and procedures of the organization. The position requires knowledge in qualifying customers for DSL and cable services and an understanding of how this process works. Since I worked in Mesa de Control Department previously I gained important knowledge that is needed to perform your duties as Team Leader. Going into this position with no knowledge could make it extremely difficult to succeed and the person may become discouraged and not understand. Evaluating my leadership style and the strengths and weaknesses has been important in discovering if I could be a successful Team Leader. Leadership Style Model Leadership can be broken down into five different approaches such as traits, behaviors, integrative, situational, and power of influence. Each of these approaches help to determine how well a leader can influence his or her followers. To understand how leaders become powerful and why people follow a particular leader we first have to understand the leadership approach. Three types of variables are relevant to understanding how effective a leader will be. These variables are as follows: characteristic of the leader, the followers and the situation. In think that the leadership style I posses......

... POSITION DESCRIPTION QUESTIONNAIRE GUIDANCE August 2008 General Information and Purpose The Position Description Questionnaire (PDQ) is the state’s official job description and legal document that describes the duties and responsibilities of an individual position or job in the state personnel system, which are also the expectations of the job. In structured questionnaire format, the PDQ is the primary data collection instrument designed to gather information about the specific assignment and characteristics of a single position relative to the job evaluation system’s four factors: Decision Making, Complexity, Purpose of Contact, and Line/Staff Authority. Because the PDQ is the official record of the position’s assignment, it is the basis of job evaluation decisions and documents information used for purposes of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employee selection, performance management and development, and workforce and staffing planning. Every position in the state personnel system must have an official PDQ on file. The PDQ is evaluated to determine the proper class for new, vacant, and filled positions. Although employees and supervisors are encouraged to work collaboratively to complete the PDQ, the supervisor and appointing authority are ultimately accountable for establishing the work assignment, as well as the completeness and accuracy of information within the......

...America. The fast food companies doesn’t come to your door and ask you to eat their food, instead it’s the other way around. The reason why there is obesity in America is because of the choices that people make and the money that they have. Also the lack of understanding of nutritional values goes hand to hand with the choice that people make. Lots of people eat at unhealthy fast food restaurants like McDonalds and Taco Bell is because they have cheap food. But that don’t mean that fast food is always the best choice. There are fast food restaurant which are little more expensive, but lot healthier, like Chipotle and Subway. The problem with fast food restaurants like Chipotle is that there aren’t that many around like McDonalds. In his essay David Zinczenko wrote that “restaurants like McDonalds don’t have nutritional fast on its food because it isn’t covered under Food and Drug Administration laws, so most people don’t know what they are eating and what kind of nutrients are in it”. But I believe that it is the consumers’ job to find out what they are putting in the body. Also restaurants like McDonalds and Taco Bell have become symbol of American fast food. If you ask anybody to name one fast food restaurant it’s most likely that they will say McDonalds. If want to fix the obesity problem in America we need to change how people think about fast food, as said by Judith Warner in Junking Junk Food. Also the social norms play big part in this because as I said McDonalds......

...Position Paper 1 Technological advancement during the Industrial Revolution ultimately laid the foundations that enabled the creation of a workplace that promoted efficiency, discipline, and coordination. This workplace has become a symbol for the shift from home industries to the modern industrial firm known as a factory. Technological advancement can be classified into two categories: macro-inventions and micro-inventions. Macro-inventions are technological advancements of sufficient importance that dramatically change the production process. Micro-inventions are minute alterations to preexisting forms of capital that serve to enhance or improve its performance. There is a great debate, specifically concerning the British Industrial Revolution, over whether successful technological change is based on breakthrough inventions or small, incremental improvements to known techniques. With changes in technology and the workforce came the centralization of employees. Centralizing the workforce dramatically changed the basic functions of a family and the household. Families adopted a new specialized lifestyle in which they had to adhere to the schedule of the factory. The in industrial revolution can be defined through a three pronged sequence of change: a small sector economy that underwent drastic technological change, as a consequence this sector grew exponentially, and this growing and advancing economy spread to surrounding sectors allowing for trade to occur. Technological......

...Position Paper First things first and here we must understand what addiction is “the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.” After such statement we need to think if we are familiarized with those descriptions. Here a deeper look is necessary to fully understand and reach its meaning. When stated being slaved, what can be understood from that, a person that does not have a choice in the matter, something or somebody else is in control and here the control is to a habit or practice or something. It can be either physical or psychological habit-forming, it’s a cycle that needs to be done every day and it gets to the point it can be harmful. Another statement might exemplify a little better what I’m saying here. “Anything any person does more often than is thought reasonable from the reference point of the describer is ‘‘addicted’’ to the behavior in question.” Everyone knows someone to be doing something more often than is thought reasonable. Some people can’t stop working out, other eating, getting connected to Facebook, phone texting. Is it harmful? The answer is yes; think about those that died or killed somebody for texting while driving, or eating so much that health problems starts to emerge. And when the word addiction is pronounced the first thing most people have in mind is alcohol, drugs, cigarettes. They...

...The Position Paper Analysis 3.1 Composition II There is a common ground that all of human nature shares, and that is the fact that we all must eat to survive. Food. It is what keeps us alive, and is undeniably one of the single most important factors of our existence. Without it we would perish. So, how does the world manage to mass produce enough food to feed the billions? Mass production of crop cultivation on a large scale. In order to do this successfully and provide food for the populations there are a few primary issues which must be addressed. One of the main issues the farmers of the world must deal with is the problem with crop destroying insects and invasive plant species. Pesticide is used to identify both insecticides and herbicides, or (as I like to refer to them) bug and weed killers. Although pesticides curb the effects of insects and weeds in food cultivation, the detrimental health issues concerning the effects of pesticides continues to increase; therefore, pesticides should have stricter standards imposed upon their use, and more focus should be made towards developing alternative methods and safer solutions. Depending on location, environment, weather, and many other variables there is a great need to protect the world’s crops from the devastating effects of bugs and weeds. Certain species are capable of terminating the growth of necessary food sources. Of course humanity would react as alarmist and jump to an immediate solution of......

So I had to watch videos’, read the chapter instructor assign for the class to read on how to paraphrase and quotation, and listen to the instructor talk in live-chat on what are paraphrases and quotations; well as giving examples. As the weeks went by, became more familiar with quotations and paraphrase not so hard for me anymore. The second harder thing in English Composition was how to write a cause and effect essay. Position Paper

...Position paper From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia A position paper is an essay that presents an opinion about an issue, typically that of the author or another specified entity; such as a political party. Position papers are published in academia, in politics, in law and other domains. Position papers range from the simplest format of a letter to the editor through to the most complex in the form of an academic position paper. Position papers are also used by large organizations to make public the official beliefs and recommendations of the group. In academia Position papers in academia enable discussion on emerging topics without the experimentation and original research normally present in an academic paper. Commonly, such a document will substantiate the opinions or positions put forward with evidence from an extensive objective discussion of the topic. In politics Position papers are most useful in contexts where detailed comprehension of another entity's views is important; as such, they are commonly used by political campaigns, government organizations, in the diplomatic world, and in efforts to change values (e.g. through public service announcements) and organisational branding. They are also an important part of the Model United Nations process. In government, a position paper lies somewhere between a white paper and a green paper in that they affirm definite opinions and propose solutions but may not go so far as detailing specific plans for......
