Introduction

Education is a process by which man transmits his experiences, new findings, and values accumulated over the years, in his struggle for survival and development through generations. Education enables individuals and society to make an all-round participation in the developmental process, by acquiring knowledge, ability, skills, and attitudes.
According to the Regional Memorandum No.88, s.1993 – A longer time spent in teaching Filipino from first year and up. It also provides that students should be encouraged to undertake Filipino experiments and teaching should require maximum students activity with emphasis on reflection level lessons. Filipino subject is one of the difficult subjects in the learning process. This subject requires not only day to day lectures but actual manipulation of materials, experimentation, observation, and other scientific process. Some teachers do not have expertise in teaching the subject and they have lack of resources in making the discussion more real and interesting.…...

Pupils Attitudes Toward Science: Its Influence to Academic Performance

...Secondary Education (SMASSE) initiative in Kenya was in response to the continuous poor performance in Mathematics and Science despite the effort of employing qualified teachers, increasing salary, providing equipments and constructing laboratories and Mathematics classrooms. SMASSE-INSET program was made available and compulsory to all serving Mathematics and Science teachers in the country in 2004 at the district level. The Activity, Student, Experiment and Improvisation (ASEI) through Planning, Doing, while Seeing then Improving (PDSI) approach introduced through the SMASSE project is an attempt to improve performance. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the attitudes of teachers toward SMASSE-INSET and establish the relationship between attitudes and implementation of SMASSE-INSET resolutions. Evaluation research design was adopted and the target population included all mathematics teachers of Nandi Central District secondary schools. Sixty (60) mathematics teachers participated in the study. The data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study show that Mathematics teachers tend to have a positive attitude toward the SMASSE-INSET project and despite the challenges they face, they work hard to implement ASEI/PDSI pedagogy, which is a student-centered approach. ...CHAPTER I Introduction Background of the Study This study investigates whether PowerPoint presentations improve student’s learning and attitudes compared with traditional classroom presentations. While the use of PowerPoint and multimedia in the classroom has significantly increased globally in recent years (Connor and Wong, 2004; Bartsch and Cobern, 2003), few studies have systematically investigated its impact on student learning and attitudes. Rebele et al. (1998) note that little research exists regarding integration of technology in the accounting curriculum, and suggest that accounting researchers should examine whether technology improves learning. One study that has examined the relationship between multimedia and student learning and attitudes was conducted by Butler and Mautz (1996). In a laboratory experiment conducted during a 30-minute time period, they found that multimedia did not affect student recall in all situations. Butler and Mautz did find an interaction between the effects of the multimedia presentation and the student’s preferred class representation style (i.e., whether the student was considered a “verbal” or “imaginal” learner). To improve the quality of learning in our schools using multimedia is very effective in the teaching learning situation. Environmental issues include various aspects but the pollution of air, water and noise but water pollution is the topic of presentation as water is the main constituent of life and various life processes need water as an important part. The teaching is done in the Khalsa School Fremont which is in the Sikh temple. The people attending the presentation were the community members, general public and the students of the Khalsa School. The permission was granted by the director of Sikh temple Fremont and they provided a classroom which has a writing board and proper lightening and ventilation. The small children were sitting in the front row and the rest of the community people were sitting at the back. The estimated time of presentation is not more than 50 to 55 minutes and the teacher has a printed information regarding the topic of presentation which is “water pollution”.
