The PRINCE2® Practitioner Training Manual
Thank you for reading our PRINCE2 Training Manual. The main objective of this book is to provide an easy-to-read and easy-to-understand PRINCE2® manual. The idea for this book came from the questions I received from people trying to learn PRINCE2 and after reading the official PRINCE2 manual “Managing Successful Projects with PRINCE2”. The official PRINCE2 Manual for the Project Manager is an excellent reference manual but can be rather difficult to pick up and read if you are new to both project management and PRINCE2. So this book is meant to be – and is – an easy introduction to PRINCE2 and is quickly becoming the most read book for people wishing to learn about PRINCE2 and prepare for Foundation Exam and Practitioner Exam. Feedback: We welcome any feedback (suggests to improve or corrections), Feedback

...For Portfolio, Programme, Project, Risk and Service Management PRINCE2® Business Benefits Dr. Ian Clarkson, QA White Paper January 2010 2 PRINCE2® Business Benefits Section 1 Introduction As the pace, amount and complexity of change continues to increase, transforming operations so as to achieve a beneficial future state whilst maintaining ‘business-as-usual’ remains the crucial challenge for organizations. This challenge creates a natural tension which, in most cases, always requires more time and money to manage than anticipated. Projects provide the means by which organizations can transform their business operations. Project management, therefore, is the mechanism by which this transformation process is managed. This white paper discusses the business benefits that organizations can attain by adopting a structured, controlled, repeatable and robust project management method. The particular project management method ‘under the spotlight’ in this white paper is PRINCE2®. The content of this white paper is structured as follows. Section 2 discusses what PRINCE2 is and its place within the global project management industry, whereas Section 3 defines exactly what is termed ‘PRINCE2 Business Benefits’. Section 4 ‘makes the case’ as to why formal project management (and, indeed, a structured approach) is needed with Section 5 exploring the business benefits of adopting PRINCE2 from the perspectives of 1) the commercial sector, 2) the public sector, 3) the......

...Design-Specification Manual: A How-to on Aspen Plus If this screen appears, enter in a title for the simulation and click on the Next button. If it doesn’t you can find it by clicking on Setup, which is found on the left hand side of the input screen. However, completing the Setup form isn’t manditory. Once finished inputting a title, Click Next. In the Component Name box enter the two components for this problem: isobutane and isobutylene (isobutene). Note that the data bank doesn’t recognize the name isobutene, hence isobutylene is entered because it is the same compound and it is in the data bank. Enter these names in the component name column. The names in the component ID column are aliases. Click Next. At this screen, enter in NRTL for the "base method” as we have done before in other simulations. This screen is under the Specifications sub-directory of the Properties section. Click Next. Aspen will now ask you for the FEED stream information. (Note how the title bar indicates which input form you are in.) Enter a temperature and a pressure of your choice. Next, enter the known flow rate of isobutane in the Total Flow box (make sure that you are using the right units). Also, Aspen Plus requires some composition info for the feed stream. For this example, in the Composition box, select the Mole-Frac and input 1 in the Value box for isobutane. Click on the Next button. The next screen will be the......

Manual Critique

...Manual Critique Nathan Coffman ENG/221 October 6, 2014 Nancy Henderson Manual Critique I will start by saying that I chose a manual completely at random. For my critique I chose to use a manual I found online for an Avaya 3920 wireless telephone. The five criteria I had set for the manual beforehand were: it needed to be written in the second person, it needed to have a table of contents, it needed to be easy to understand/non-technical, the terminology needed to stay consistent throughout, and the manual needed to appear professional. The first thing that I noticed when the manual opened was that the first few pages were essentially legal notices. There was also a portion about the author/s making their best effort to make sure everything was accurate at the time of writing. I thought that was a good way to start. They seemed to cover all of their bases from a legal perspective. After getting through the legal notices, I found the table of contents. Ding, Ding, Ding, it matched one of my criteria. The table of contents was laid out, in my opinion, just the way it should have been. It started out with the introduction and all things a person would expect with that. (Welcome, brief description of the manuals layout, and it gave a website where the user can get more information.) The other sections in the table of contents were mainly for installation and setup. After I got through examining the table of contents I started to read the actual manual. The......

...Microsoft User Manual Critique John Doe ENG/221 June 14, 2010 Instructor Name Microsoft User Manual Critique The focus of this paper will be to evaluate the Microsoft Word 2007 manual based on the criteria defined in Comparative User-focused Evaluation of User Guides: A case study (2007). The Microsoft Word 2007 manual is evaluated based on the following criteria: (a) attractiveness, (b) practicality, (c) simplicity, and (d) efficiency. Each of the four criteria are assigned a point value of between zero through five, zero meaning none of the criteria was not meet and five meaning the criteria was completely meet. Attractiveness A user manual should be attractive to entice the user to use it (Ganier, 2007). Attractiveness is subjective, a matter of personal esthetics, it is difficult to quantify attractiveness as it is defined differently by individuals. For the purposes of evaluating the attractiveness of the Microsoft Word 2007 manual three criteria as defined in Design 101(2007) are used: * Proximity: is related information groped together * Contrast: do the text and headings contrast with one another * Repetition: are design elements repeated throughout the manual Proximity To evaluate if related information is properly grouped in the Microsoft Word 2007 manual four main topics: (a) Activating Word, (b) Headers and footers, (c) Creating specific documents, and (d) Page numbers were selected at random from the table of contents. The main topics were......

...PRINCE2 reduces unknown factors by providing a defined approach in the form of processes, practices, standards, templates and PM tools. This obviously helps in improving performance and delivery since a shared, standardized approach is always easier to adopt rather than a customized or personalized approach. With the help of standardization tools, documents, communication and project procedures become more transparent and easy to apply across the board. A key aspect of PRINCE2 is “Tailoring”. Since standardization helps in applying this methodology across multiple industries and projects as described above, tailoring helps in making the methodology even more advantageous.( Dow, William 2009, pp. 345-351) PRINCE 2 defines tailoring as the appropriate use of PRINCE2 on any given project ensuring that there is correct amount of planning, control, governance and use of processes and themes. To put it simply, tailoring is done by the project management team to adapt the method to the context of a specific project. Tailoring involves adapting the PRINCE 2 method to both external and project factors. External factors to consider could be any corporate standards that need to be applied while project factors would include items such as the scale of the project. For example if there were two projects – one simple and the other to build the worlds’ tallest tower – a PM would still follow corporate standards in each case, but those for the tower could involve more in-depth work. And,......

...Photosmart 5510 Series User Manual M. Raquel Medina ENG/221 August 14, 2012 Gregory Bontz Recently purchased, by the writer, was an HP All-in-One printer, scanner, and copier, the HP Photosmart 5510 series. A manual was provided in the boxed package but can also be viewed online at http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02983578.pdf. The manual provides simplicity, clarity, attractiveness, organization and graphical illustrations. It is a well written instructional manual for users of any technical level, although the length of the document is a little too long. According to Don Norman, “People do not want to read manuals — they want to do their activity. Help them get right to work, with minimum reading” (Norman, 2012). At times a reader can become confused and frustrated with a user manual that is too big. Keeping the manual clear and simple is important. Simplicity • Positive: The HP Photosmart 5510 series user manual is made simple because of the shortness in its index. There are only nine major topics that are covered in the manual but these nine are the key points to operating the device. The manual has each topic linked to the page so a simple point and click gets you to the information needed. • Negative: The Technical Information portion of this manual was not easy to follow. Although, technical information is not the easiest to make simple. Clarity • Positive: Clarity is important when reading a user manual because your......
