Raging Bull Film Analysis

My reaction to the film Raging Bull was a positive one. The film displayed a troubled fighter looking to escape his personal reality by fighting in a boxing ring. Martin Scorcese directed the film it was to be his Swan song from movie making. Robert Deniro starred as Jake Lamotta a troubled individual who didn’t feel comfortable in real life situation but once he enter the ring it became his world. Joe Pesci costarred in the movie as his brother/trainer this was Pesci first big break as a film actor he had done mostly minor films prior to the making of the film. The movie takes the viewer on a rollercoaster ride through Jakes life from a wannabe fighter into one of most fierce men to enter the ring. The film also showed his insecurities out of the ring with the women in his life. He was very insecure in relationship from males and females mostly from the women in his life he didn’t trust them at all. He met and married his second wife while she was just a teen which added more fuel to the fire of an already insecure man. His decisions out of the ring made him a very volatile inside of the ring he threw a fight on purpose just to get a shot at a title. His decision to throw the fight almost cost him his career because it was so obvious to the spectators the boxing commission had to suspend him. Jake also had several memorable bouts against Sugar Ray Robinson the last one leaving him bloodied and battered but he never fell taking the punishment that was being dealt to him. His personal demons also fractured the relationship with his brother after physically assaulting his wife he then turns his frustrations on his own brother and beats him senseless. That relationship would never be fixed even though Jake knows that he was wrong and tries to apologize years later. After his retirement from the ring he becomes a club owner and a semi standup comic but trouble soon finds him again after he is arrest for soliciting underage girls at his club. Before going to jail he tries to raise bribe money for his case by selling his championship belt. The problem with that was he removed the jewelry from the belt which made it worthless to the jeweler. After being sentenced he goes berserk in his cell punching walls and questioning how he put himself in that situation. After being released he goes back to stand up comedy he looks in the mirror and quotes the line from On the Waterfront that he could have been a contender. The movie uses Chronological editing which moves the action in a seamless way from the older and fatter Jake to the slim and in shape boxer back to an older version of Jake. In the sequence in which he is fixing the T.V with his brother they take action from the living room up to the bedroom where he breaks down the bathroom door in order to abuse his whom he thinks has slept with his brother. The scene move seamless from living room to bathroom and then finally ends at his brothers house which is down the street from him once inside he brutally attack his brother in front of his wife and children. All the while Jakes wife is pleading with him to stop at which point he turns and knocks her out cold with one punch. That scene hardly required any editing as the camera moved with them at a fast pace giving it a seamless quality. There many scenes in which sound played an important part none so much as in scenes that involve the ring Scorcese used the sounds of punches without really showing any that landed on the fighters. He allowed the sound of punching to intensify the actual fight scene. That gave it a brutal type of feel and you could almost feel as if you were sitting ringside. The scene in which he fought Sugar Ray Robinson for last time really made the sound stand out you knew he was getting his clock cleaned but the sound increased the level of brutality. Even with the pounding he took from Sugar Ray he never was knocked off his feet and the last scene of the fight showed a boxing rope saturated with Jakes blood dripping to the floor. The music in the film was set exactly to the era in which they live and could be heard on the radio at the time. The music that played when he first met Vickie made the situation seem innocent even though his intentions were otherwise as they talked it made the impression that she was an angelic person full of virtue and innocence. The thing that I learned about editing and sound is that it has to be thought about beforehand and not just a foregone conclusion that you can just cut and paste things to make it a film. With the proper editing the movie moves along smoothly without losing the audience in the process. It gives the viewer continuity with the action that is being presented. The same goes for sound the movie becomes realistic in a way because of what you hear audibly translate to your brain in a much different way than just seeing something visually. I see the same in old Three Stooges movies where if it was any sound effects of the slaps and pratfalls wouldn’t be funny. It helps to intensify the effect that is being presented on the screen even if your eyes were closed it would convey its message to you. The music in films helps to show the emotion of the actors and give a little insight to their inner feelings without them saying a word.…...

Red Bull

...To start off this presentation, its important to understand that ever since Red Bull was founded in 1987, word of mouth marketing has been at the very core of the company’s marketing mix and this strategy has evolved into four pillars. However, based on our research, its interesting to see that when Red Bull would enter a new market the company won’t use all four pillars at once even though they had mastered the practice of each in previous markets. Instead each pillar would be implemented in the follow manner First, Red Bull would enter a market solely through the nightlife channel and at this time the company would began to invest in their consumer collecting pillar with the objective of winning new users and trade up existing users to different consumption occasions. This was achieved with sampling performed by their wing teams and Red Bull’s student brand managers which are actually full-time college students employed by Red Bull to ensure product availability and visibility on campus as well as provide Red Bull with youth trends Once the consumer collecting teams were in place and product was beginning to expand from the nightlife channel into the FC channel, the next pillar which formed was the Opinion Leader Programs with athletes and culture icons. The main role of these individuals was to reinforce the credibility of the product’s effectiveness and build brand image in a more cluttered and competitive environment Next once distribution channels had been......

Scorsese's Redemption Through Perfection: the Raging Bull

...Scorsese’s Personal Redemption through Perfection: The Raging Bull For almost thirty years Martin Scorsese’s overwhelming film Raging Bull has withstood the test of time, and as the films’ title character Jake La Motta defiantly tells Sugar Ray Robinson in defeat “You never got me down,” so the film and perhaps Scorsese himself can never be knocked down. The director himself attributed Raging Bull to saving his life and career. The film is as turbulent in its direction as it is in Robert De Niro’s extreme method acting, which set the bar higher for all actors. As rattling and real as taking a punch to the face, not only the acting, which has been discussed in every possible light, but the directing, the editing and the cinematography have become a hallmark and template of what a truly powerful film can be. Raging Bull was going to be Martin Scorsese’s final film, his goodbye to Hollywood. Shaken by asthma and depression, and finally derailed by a massive cocaine addiction and overdose, the acclaimed director had no desire to do a sports film or anything like it. Robert De Niro had been pushing La Motta’s biography on him for years, never with any returned interest. After his overdose however, De Niro continued to insist he take up the film, finally convincing the great director on the premise the work would save his life and in the end save his career. Scorsese has also said the gritty tone of the film, and its final theme of alienation redemption for the dark soul, or......

Pit Bulls

...How did Pit bulls become the object of fear? Pit bulls are very playful, loyal and gentle animals. But they have a bad representation of be aggressive all the time. Others have containment issues were they can be great with you, but different when they are in a kennel or on a chain it makes them aggressive. Pit bulls are the object of fear because of the way they are shown in the media as well as the way that they are treated. I had the pleasure of having two pit bulls before we moved to North Dakota. When I was younger we purchased a pit-bull puppy that we raised. Roxie was her name and she later gave birth to 10 puppies that we either sold or gave to friends, except for one in which we kept. While growing up and playing with Roxie we would run around the yard. She loved to play in the snow and piles of leaves. She was a very sweet dog. She would come and lay on the floor by your feet and just lay there until you moved. My sisters, brother and myself treated her more like a child then a dog. When we were eating something, we gave her some even though our parents told us not to. She loved peanut butter. She was a very good guard dog, because she would let you know when someone would be in the yard or at the door. She would bark to let you know that someone was there, but she never attacked the person. My sister’s pit bull mini is really sweet as well she loves to come and jump on my bed when I am laying their watching television and she will just lay there...

The runners are called “Mozos”. To me, sound like bozo’s because who in they right mind would run will bulls. Some of the runners take the event seriously some just go out and run, usually 5 or more runners get hurt a year. The bull’s path leads them half a mile to the stadium so they can begin the fighting of the bulls a cruel event where the bulls meet its end in the ring against a matador a skilled fancy suit wearing fighter. After the excitement of the running of the bulls and the...

Red Bull

...Marketing Essays - Red Bull Table of Contents Introduction Red Bull has created a strong brand image, using colourful icon with two bulls in opposition and a memorable tag line; ‘Red Bull gives you wings’. Through creative marketing and sponsorship it has linked itself with extreme sports, innovative music and art, all aimed squarely at the youth market (Dahlen, Lange and Smith, 2010). This brief examines brand development, which strategies have helped it to success and where the brand goes from here as it faces the prospect of losing its cuttingedge image while continuing largely with only one product. Red Bull is a European success story. The product was launched in 1987 in Austria. It faced opposition from the Food and Drink Administration (FDA), who refused to clear it for distribution but despite this it became an underground success through clubbers and snowboarders. This anti-establishment stance found synergy with consumers, even after it was cleared for sale. It quickly spread into neighbouring countries and into the US market (Franzen and Moriarty, 2009). Dahlen, Lange and Smith (2010) note that by 2004, it had gained 40% share of its market sector and 70% in Europe. However, the brand still faced problems; it was banned in Denmark and France following unsubstantiated rumours that people had died from drinking the product in Sweden and Ireland (Mail Online, 2001). The European market was stagnating, and it faced distribution problems from companies...

There are 30 teams in the NBA and only a few that have a winning track record. The Chicago Bulls has not only won 6 Championships, but they are the leading NBA team right now with a record of 62-20 with 62 wins and only 20 losses. The beginning of the Chicago Bulls Era began in 1966. This was the year this organization was founded and began. When the team began playing they were not strong enough to have a full team so they began as an expansion team. Expansion teams are teams that pick up players that are not currently on regular teams. Bull Riding

...Comp II – ENG 1213 Proposal for Bull Riders to Wear Helmets November 28, 2012 John Cox My proposal is should professional bull riders be required to wear protective helmets during sanctioned professional bull riding events. There are many different reasons why bull riders should be required to wear protective gear that could save their lives. Many of the riders still will not ever consider wearing any sort of protective gear a chance. There are many things to consider in when someone should be made to do something or not. It could be for money, pride or even physical well being. So when people say that you should not be required to wear protective gear when you are bull riding they are sorely mistaken. Like for instance in football players are required to wear helmets and protective padding and baseball players are required to wear helmets when they are batting. There was one study published that found bull riders were around ten times more likely to get hurt than a football or hockey players where likely to. Another concluded that head trauma accounts for about half of all serious bull riding injuries. To me though wouldn’t you say that a 2,000 pound bull stomping on your head is more dangerous than a man hitting you? Then you have the people who will argue with you saying that professional bull riders are so suppose to be made out like these tuff guys. It is beginning to change though as professional riders finally realize this is a business and what they earn and......

...Red Bull: The Anti-Brand Brand The loyal customers of Red Bull drinks are very passionate about the brand. In my opinion the effect that Red Bull has on consumers, not only the drink formula, but also the advertisement, makes Red Bull to meet the customer expectations, and in return the company gains their loyalty. Overall, Red Bull is widely recognized as a leader in content marketing. The most important thing that the mainstream brands can learn from Red Bull, is the ability to create your own market as a company. The company targeted costumers, who would be excited of the new product. Mainly they focused on the youth population, the people who are always party, search for excitement and adrenalin etc. By sponsorship of extreme sport events, they introduce the company products` as extreme. But rather than sponsoring events, Red Bull also developed its own extreme sports, this was innovation in some way, since they were the first company that implemented this marketing strategy. BMX biking, kite boarding, extreme snowboarding, paragliding etc, all these sports are dangerous, adrenaline-fuelled and on the edge, and Red Bull become associated with those activities. To attract more the young population, they organized music events. Red Bull became a popular drink for the young generation to mix it with alcohol. The adults oppose to this way of consuming alcohol, and I know that in my own experience. The other thing that the competitors can learn for sure is the profile that......

Through Raging Waters

...“I got you now!” Jor said as he rose from his seat. “No! You don’t!” I replied with a sneer look on my face. The Chicago Bulls beat the Charlotte Hornets by two points. “I knew you’d miss the last shot,” I added. “Shut up! I’ll get you next time,” Jor said furiously. He raged away from the TV, dropping his controller. He walked into his room completely frustrated and slammed the door behind him. I was pleased and carried on with my game. It was an unusual day. The sun was nowhere to be seen and the sky just kept on crying. It had been raining since I woke up. I could feel a rush of wind every now and then. The coldness made my breath visible. It was 6:30 in the morning and I was still on about the game. I was so focused on being the best. Or so I thought. I was interrupted by intermittent irritating barks. I paused the screen and investigated what my adorable tamed dogs were up to. I looked through the window pane and saw them barking and running into a frenzy. I noticed that my dogs were stepping on water. I realised that it was flooding and the water had reached the front yard. The sky kept on pouring water and it showed no signs of stopping. Unfortunately, I had to stop and act quickly. I opened my front door and ordered my dogs to come in. As soon as the three went in, I rushed and barged into my brother’s room. “Hey, look outside! It’s flooding and the rain isn’t stopping, the water just reached our front yard. What should we do?” I nervously...

Raging Bull Movie Review

...Motta, and as a result of his inability to trust himself or others, he loses them. He beats Vicki mercilessly because of his suspicions of unfaithfulness. However, when he inaccurately believes that his brother betrayed him, his vicious rage was let loose with an explosion of violence. Though through all of the meaningless fights and unacceptable conflicts, LaMotta wants his family's love, even though, something always seems to come between them. Perhaps it's his violent actions of jealousy and his paranoid mindset that ends up causing his indecisive struggles. But, the kind of rage he acquires from all of his suspicions, helped him become the champion. However, in real life, he was actually in the ring alone. “Raging Bull,” in my opinion was a great oldies movie. It was full of actions, a great plot, and it symbolize the life of boxing in the 80's. A movie that actually showed an underside of a sport where gambling, greed, and organized crime force fighters to throw matches to continue working....
