The Reason Why I Can’t Look a Person in the Eye

In grade nine, during semester two I had gym last period. It had been a long day, I was exhausted and I just wanted to finish this class and go home. To make everything so much worse we were going to be playing a game that I absolute hated. Soccer-baseball. Both classes were standing in one large circle, while the teacher with boorish brown eyes, was in the middle yelling out instructions. Her voice echoed throughout the huge gym, as she was saying “Everyone has to pick a partner!” and so on. So I looked over to my good friend faith with glamorous green eyes. And mouthed “want to be partners”, and she mouthed back “sure”. So I smiled to myself, until I caught the glimpse of the boy standing beside me, just staring at me, with considerable, confused, brown eyes. Now you see this boy was supposed to be very popular, everyone knew his name, (but I seemed to have forgotten) and everyone thought that he was funny. Even I chuckled at his resistance to a teacher’s demand, his English presentations, and his sarcastic comments during class. So of course I looked back at him into his eyes, and then whispered impatiently to him “what do you want?” he looked at me all wide eyed and pointed at himself. At first I didn’t understand, and then I realized he must have thought that I was taking to him, when I asked faith to be partners. So I shook my head and mouthed “No”, then pointed to faith. His gaze followed my finger till he saw I who I was pointing to, and shook his head as if to say ‘Oh I see’. Then just as I was about to tune in to what the teacher was talking about, I still saw him starting at me, as if I was some alien. So I started into his eyes and whispered back to him again “what now?” He paused for a moment as if trying to figure out what to say, and then he whispered to me “Which eye do I…...

The Reasons Why I Dont Sleep

...2012 The Reasons Why I Don’t Sleep Why don’t I sleep? It’s a question I’ve been asking myself for a while now. I’m sure there are many reasons why, but here are 3 enormous reasons of why I think I don’t sleep at night. I have a lot of bad habits in my life but I think the worst ones I have are before I fall asleep at night. I used to be able to sleep well at night that changed after I started listening to music right before I fell asleep. I think that since I listened to violent music before I went to bed every night it really disrupted my sleep schedule. I remember one night where I was listening to music on my iPod before I went to bed. I had to get really early in the morning, around 4am to go to the gym with my trainer to work out. I remember listening to heavy metal before I tucked in for the night. Little did I know how much it was going to affect my sleep patterns and myself. I finally went to bed around 11 30pm, the whole night I was tossing and turning in my sleep. When I finally woke up around 4am to work out I felt horrible because I didn’t get enough sleep. Listening to music before I go to bed is a really terrible habit that I have and it’s really hard to break. After a while you get used to it and its almost like second nature to listen to music before you fall asleep at night. It can really disrupt how you wake up in the morning as well. I remember one time where I had to wake up early in the morning to go take a test. Since I had been......

Reasons Why a Person Might Consider Data

...Reasons why a person might consider data or information to lack validity, credibility, or reliability depends on what type of data it is. One reason would be what method was used to collect the information. Is the data accurately represented to what it is claiming? An example would be if 400 people were surveyed on a college campus about alcohol use. How would a person know if those 400 people are representative of the college itself? Are these people in an equal proportion to the social economic status, age, race, academic interest, religion, and employment to the entire college campus? This is not likely. Also, a person should look precisely at the questions that have been asked and the questions that have not been asked. A person might have a problem if you ask people if they are drinking and driving and not asking if they have a driver’s license or not. Also, look at who has done the collecting of the data or information. Does this person have a lot of interest to the outcome to the data that has been collected? An example would be a person collecting data on a project that they have little interest in. By not having much interest in the project they are not going to put much effort behind finding the best data that is validated, credible, and reliable. Does this person also have the training and education need to interpret the data that they have collected? If a person doesn’t have the right training or education then they might not know how to put the data they have......

Look Me in the Eye

...) In the memoir, look me in the eye: my life with asperger’s, by John Elder Robison there are several points that seem to be significant in the development of his interpersonal self regulation. Identify one of these time points (please use page numbers) and explain how you think this is an example of a shift in interpersonal self regulation. (10 points) Throughout his memoir, Robison recounts upon his inability to communicate socially and his desire for fluid interpersonal skills. He notices that people who are extroverts and are socially capable often “go far in life because interpersonal skill is one of the most important predictors of success” (207). As he grows and becomes more socially capable, he is able to recognize his interpersonal shortcomings and work to change his awkward habits. Because of this, he inherently has more social problems when he is a young boy. “Starting at about six years of age, [he] learned not to submit [him]self to repeated humiliation from people and institutions” (239). Unfortunately, humiliation was the impetus for Robison’s education in interpersonal self-regulation. In chapter 3, Empathy, Robison’s mother has one of her friends over. She comments on a tragedy of someone’s son being killed by a train while playing on train tracks. For lack of an understanding of social and emotional norms, Robison decides to smile at this remark. “She turned to me with a shocked expression on her face. ‘What! Do you think that’s funny?’ I felt......

I Closed My Eyes

...I closed my eyes and listened to his voice. I heard Buddha’s voice in mind. “What is going on?” “Am I imagining this?” I heard his voice in my ears. Happy place, happy place. The garden filled with happy times of me with my wife, Eve; my beautiful Eve. I pictured us together in the garden and then something started to happen inside of me. I felt this power. I saw Buddha there with us in the garden glowing. Qiao told me to open my eyes and stand up. So I stood up with a teardrop running down my face. Qiao told me to use that power and channel it through my fists. Qiao told me to swing both my hands now. As I swung, Qiao placed a thick piece of wood in my way. I felt the life from my soul go through my hands. Both of my fists struck the wood and it broke up into small pieces. Qiao smiled at me saying, “My friend, you have found the middle way,” and then bowed to me. Buddha said with a big smile on his face, “You have just learnt the Almighty push. Also, another reason we don't use it too often is because channeling the power of your soul will shorten your life with every use. It is called the Almighty push for a reason. You're pushing out the power that was given by the Almighty God. That tear that I shed was not from sadness but joy. If you have ever cried from joy, you will then find true happiness. There, Buddha told me his work was done and went back to his place to meditate. Qiao was in shock. He told me he couldn’t believe that Buddha got up to speak. Qiao started......

A Person I Admire

...college would be a big one. The reason for that goal is a little complicated. Immediately i think of a career and how a degree would help me get a job. Hopefully it will lead to financially safe career. I would appreciate the education i would get for my own personal gain and the value of knowledge. I want to know as much about the world as i can. Still i can’t ignore the fact that what really drives me is the degree. I see it as the more you learn the better you get. My education would improve my life in two ways, by broadening my knowledge, and through reputation. I want to improve on my self and education helps me do this. In college you would find more success of knowledge than you could find anywhere else. Another reason why i am in college because in my recent experience in trying to find a job i realized that the employer takes you more seriously if you have more than just a high school diploma. I don’t want to be working at some fast money business and hardly having enough money to support not only myself, but also my family. Being in college and getting a degree in whatever my heart desires will open up so many doors for me. It would help me get a job that i not only like, but one that will make me feel like i am actually accomplishing something with my life. My last reason, but not my least important reasons is that i decided to go to college because i like being anti-social and being involve in school activities. So a big reason why i wanted to go to college was......

Why I Cant Be German

... wear short skirts and drink whiskey. My parents received the highest praise bestowed by the Germans: "You're different from other Turks, aren't you?" Different Turks. I had "different Turks" phrases that I repeated again and again. They went something like this: "My parents made out even before they got married. Yes, they were even together for seven years before they wed. They were not promised to each other; their marriage was not arranged. They wrote each other love letters and held hands, on the Bosporus, without a marriage certificate. Yes, they were allowed to go to the movies." These were stories to prove that we were "different Turks." Modern Turks. Nice Turks. Almost Germans. But becoming a German wasn't that easy. When I arrived in the fifth grade, I never raised my hand -- I simply blurted things out, and I did it often. I was disruptive. It was a clear case, at least in the opinion of my homeroom teacher, Frau K., who invited my father to drop by for a talk. Frau K. had prepared for this. She now knew everything about women in Islam (my mother), and about male domination (my father). She knew about oppression, honor killings, and the distribution of tasks and rights between men and women in Turkish families -- in other words, my family. Now she explained it to my father: "Herr Gezer, I know your origins and understand your culture, but when you oppress the girl at home like this and don't allow her to speak, just because she is a girl, she lets it all......

The Person I Admire Most

...THE PERSON I ADMIRE MOST Talk about the person that I admire so much, a lot of names run through my mind. My mother, sister and some good friends. I even wanted to write about Shim Changmin, the man that made my eyes pop out and he is my love at first sight among the Korean boy bands. But then , I decided to write about a person whom I admire so much and who has influenced me a lot . she is my best friend from my hometown, Kerteh , Terengganu. Her name is Khairunnisa and everyone calls her NIsa. She is as pretty as her name but she does not seem to realise this or she chooses to ignore it. She has a face that every girl would die for. She has silky soft , white creamy skin. Her sparkling hazel eyes are complemented by dark sooty lashes . Her hair is straight , waist length and lustrous like the models in the Rejoice shampoo advertisement. She is a simple girl but yet other girls are envious of her. Though she is petite, small and slender she is strong willed and matured. It is not her physical appearance that made me admire her. Her personality attracts people like magnets. She is friendly, talks politely to everyone, has a good sense of humour, caring and a good Muslimah. Another good thing about her , she has no time for puppy love. Although she has many good looking suitors flirting with her, my elder brother included, she paid no attention to all of them. Sometimes I wish she had introduced some of the guys to me. However , being a good Muslimah, she stays......

The Reason Why I Started to Eat Carrots

...The Reason Why I Started To Eat Carrots It is Sunday afternoon; I’m hungry and I can’t take off my mind the carrot cake that I eat each year on my birthday. I’m gazing at the splendid vista that my huge picture window offers. It is winter now, and as far I can see, there is no green anywhere in the woods, only the desolate gray that is scattered among the crunchy branches, the dead frozen grass that doesn’t lure the deer to come by and say hi to the window. But here I am, the time is passing, and I have the feeling of being part of a movie playing in slow motion, one that shows my life passing by in front of my eyes, and I can’t touch it. Walking with my head down, suddenly, a sparkle of light on the ground calls my attention; it is a distortion of the sun that deceives me with a fractured hint of a gem that becomes the most important thing to me for the next three seconds. It is a leaf. Here is when the shining leaf took me back to a big moment, that moment in the past that everyone remembers once in a while. Those memories that transport us back to times of happiness. The shining leaf I had rescued has the same brown glazed color of a carrot cake. Those memories are ‘messing’ in my head, just to cause my emotions to emerge. Was this weird or just coincidence? The golden brown color in a carrot cake is the only thing I can think about right now. Yeah, life gives surprises and on this occasion it gives me a trip to the past. I was just five years old. The memories come......

Describe a Person Whom You Find Attractive and Explain the Reasons Why.

...What defines 'attractiveness'? What makes a person attractive to others? Looks and personality - these are the usual attributes which defines an attractive person. Most people have either looks or personality but not many people have both. I have a childhood friend called Julian Lee. He is very good looking and he has a heart of gold. He is quite a heartthrob. With raven black hair, long eyelashes, an aquiline nose and a strong jawline, it is hard not to be mesmerised by his good looks. As added bonuses, he has a towering frame and a gentle voice. As the captain of the school basketball team, his skin spots a golden tan from the hours of tireless training under the sun. He exudes a boyish charm which makes not only girls fall for him but also a favoured student among teachers. His looks aside, what makes Julian highly attractive is the fact that he has a superb personality. Julian is very kind and helpful. Whenever the teachers need help, he will be the first to render his assistance. When there are school events, he will also be the first to volunteer his services. There was a time when there were a few younger boys torturing a hapless cat. They were tying its paws with rubber bands. Julian immediately went forward and stopped the boys. Frightened by his stern persona, the boys stopped what they were doing at once and ran away quickly. On another occasion, there was a group of students who were bullying another student. Even though the boys were older than Julian, he......

Each tape has a dark blue number painted in the upper right-hand corner, possibly with nail polish. Each side has its own number. One and two on the first tape, three and four on the next, five and six,and so on. The last tape has thirteen on one side, but nothing on the back Hello, boys and girls. Hannah Baker here. Look Me in the Eye

...Look me in the Eye Starting this novel was more difficult than expected. Reading the prologue took the longest time, and prepared me for a boring book. However, as I continued to read this, I found that it was interesting. Many people who had read this book previously told me it was humorous, but I found it to be more informative, learning about a new disorder and how a young child faces it. John Elder Robison allows the readers to feel the sorrow with him when his mother and father’s fighting is mentioned, but also allows the readers to laugh with him when he pranks all his family members. Since, I didn’t know much about asperger’s, this book really opened my eyes. It’s a kind of book that a reader will remember for a long time, recommend it and continue to read it multiple times. Having to read about problems that involve children is always a sensitive issue, but this book explains it well. I found myself reading certain paragraphs over and over again so I could fully comprehend the situation that John Elder Robison was in. Readers find out how hard it is to live with asperger’s. For both family members and the child. It shows the true meaning of patience and tolerance. Although, John Elders father could not cope with the stress and became an alcoholic, it shows how difficult it is to raise an autistic child. It shows the amount of commitment it takes, a quality trait that not all parents have. The first five chapter of John Elders novel have caught my......

The Person I Admire

...The person I admire Movie stars and singers, who make a lot of money and are famous, are admired by teenagers. However, they don’t even know the person or their personality. To me admiration is a kind of respect. But there aren’t a lot of people in this world who demand this sort of respect from me. My mother is the only person who has entered my life and made me look at things differently. The first reason why I admire my mother is because she teaches me about experience. Experience is what you learn as you go through your life. As a child, you always learn that people are really nice and generous. That is not true. As you step into the real world, you will see the a person’s real face and all difference schemes, plan to make them success.[I don't understand what you are trying to say here] This happened to me when I was in sixth grade. When my class had a test and my friend did not know the answer , she asked me what the answer was and I told her what the answer was but when I had a problem and I asked her, she never answered me. Instead she said she didn't know or she that she hadn't got there yet. I was really upset and unhappy but as I have from my mother, I understand why my friend did that and I let it go more easily. She took care of her children first before she took care of herself is the second reason why I admire my mother. Taking care of a person is not easy, and taking care of yourself at the same time is even harder. My mother always takes care of me...
