First off, you need to decide whether adding Chris LaRossa and Pierce Woodward as partners is the right decision. By adding these two, you are adding the frustration of making decisions mutually with five people instead of three. It can also hurt the record proposal that you have been offered, if you now have additional band members. My recommendation is that you keep Chris and Pierce with the band as contract musicians only. If they are happy with this decision, then that is the best one to make for your personal success. As you grow in the industry, their personal careers will grow by being associated with you, but they are free to go off on their own. The next issue that you are facing is with the impact of revenue. You need to go over your offered contract and make sure that it is possible that you will make a substantial profit by joining the label. If the profit would be the same as when you were going at it independently, then joining the label may not be the best idea. My recommendation is that if the profit envisioned is the same, then stay independent. I say this because you will have greater control in what your music entails. You will have all the creative say in how your CD is designed and how your controversial lyrics are portrayed. Humble Abode let you create a CD that had an okay quality. In the music industry, okay is not good enough. With the new label, you would be able to create a much better quality sound and that can improve your sales overall. My recommendation is to consider whether or not you will be able to generate more sales with a better quality CD. If you are able to do so, then signing with the label will probably increase your profit, which is a main goal for musicians. While profit is a main goal, you also want to make sure that you still have some control of the music that is being produced or you are no longer…...

Recording Agreements

...Recording Agreements (Part 1) By: Chris Taylor, B.A., LL.B. The views and opinions expressed in this article are not meant to substitute for legal advice which should be sought in each particular instance. Introduction This article is the first of a two-part article reviewing the major terms found in a typical Canadian Major Record Company recording contract. Of course, individual circumstances can vary widely depending on the bargaining power of the artist. Major Record Company When we use the term "Major Record Company" ("MRC") we mean one of the following companies in Canada: Warner Bros., Universal, BMG, EM! and Sony. Several other record companies in Canada including Jive, Aquarius, and Nettwerk can, on occasion, make competitive offers against MRCis. Smaller record companies may be more flexible on the length of term and creative control issues whereas MRCis are often stronger in the financial guarantees of artist advances, recording funds, video budgets, tour support, etc. All of these terms are discussed below. Term Every recording agreement should explicitly outline how long the contract is for. Typically, the term is tied to a delivery commitment for a particular number of albums. In most instances a Major Recording Company will attempt to tie up the artist for as many albums as possible with the maximum being up to 8. albums. The artist (or their representatives) should attempt to reduce this requirement to as few albums as possible (3 to 6). The MRC will......

Recording Studio

...Song Demo Photo By Cliff Goldmacher Why do professional recordings sound, well . . . professional? There are a number of reasons, including high quality microphones, pre-amps, an experienced engineer and a well-designed studio space. But one of the single most important elements in a great-sounding, professional recording is the performance of the session musicians. There is a reason that the job of the session musician exists. It’s these musicians whose talent and studio experience contribute in a major way to the polished sound of a recording. Because there are different rules that apply when you’re recording an artist demo, I’m going to limit the scope of this article specifically to songwriting demos. Shouldn’t I Be Able To Do This Myself? While I am a big proponent of wearing as many hats as you can in your musical career, there are certain areas where it makes much better sense to rely on experts. First of all, it’s extremely important that you take ego out of the equation. There is no shame in having someone else play on your demo. Remember that a songwriting demo is supposed to put your song in the best possible light in order to “sell” it to prospective artists or place it in films and TV shows; it is not supposed to be proof of your studio musicianship. Recording your instrument in the studio requires an entirely different skill set than playing live. For lack of a better description, studio recording is more like music surgery than a musical performance.......

Sound

...Every sound we hear around us is also part of our lives. If we look at the other side of sound, it could be our memory or rewind us back to our childhood time. Sounds come from everywhere, everything, and such as: animals, nature include weather, or objects in the environment. For me, I hear a lot of sounds in my whole life. Some of the sounds I hear can make me think back of my childhood’s memories. Summer season almost approach to us. Sound that most reminds me of the summer are related to insect, weather, and natural. Surprisingly enough, insect is the most annoying bugs at night in the summer. They are everywhere, from the grass to the trees. One night in summer day, I was sitting outside in the balcony in the dark and couldn’t see things well because I lit the candles. I heard the “buzz, zee” sound around my ear; I knew some kind of bee around me. I was terrified that night because I would look horrible if I got stung. I immediately blew the candle so the bee couldn’t see me. Lucky me, it flew away after a few minutes. Bumble bees are a big nightmare to me. So every time I see bees, I remember that night. It was a scary night but also a memory in summer. Bumble bees are friendly to some people but it is my enemy. Summer is the season of rain, thunderstorm and lightning. Everyone likes rain because it cleans out all the dirt and pollen from the trees. When I see rain, I remember my six- grade school year in my country. Back then, we wore uniform when we went to school...

Open the presentation in which you want to record a narration and display the first slide. 2. Click the Insert tab, click the Sound arrow in the Media Clips menu, then click Record Sound. 3. Locate the Record Sound dialog box. Enter a name for the recording in the Name box, and then click the Play button. 4. Discuss the points associated with the first slide, just as if you were giving the presentation to a live audience, and then click the Stop button. 5. Click the Play button to review the recording. If you do not like what you hear, click Cancel and repeat Steps 2 through 4 to record the speaker’s comments again. 6. Click OK when you are satisfied with the recording. The “Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce” Act and Ecommerce

...“Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce” Act and eCommerce The “Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce” Act went into effect October 1, 2000. This act will have a profound impact on online business by establishing the legal validity of electronic contracts between legal or commercial entities. The new level of enforceability the act gives to online transactions extends from retail purchases to Business-to-Business to almost any contract two parties would like to execute online. The act, on a national level, specifically makes “electronic signatures” binding and enforceable by superceding most existing state and federal laws requiring hard copies of many types of documents to exist. Electronic records may now serve in place of these hard copies and the act even provides for electronic Notary Publics where required. A seller can now reasonable be assured that they have a purchaser’s electronic signature on a contract of sale if the purchaser is made aware they are entering into the contract and completes a definitive and unambiguous process that signals the intention of the purchaser to be bound to the terms and conditions of the sale. At this point, the purchaser has given their electronic signature to the contract of sale and is legally bound by the terms and conditions of the contract. The seller has also completed the process of offering the contract of sale. These actions demonstrate the parties’ intention to be bound by the......

A Sound

...I remember a sound in my dream that was telling me that I should make the most out of my life. The sound was saying that I am the captain of my own ship. However, I ignored the sound because I thought that I had all that I ever wanted in life. After waking up in the morning, I thought to myself. I reflected on all the terrible things I had done with my life and thought that the sound was right. However, I told myself that it was just but a dream. Little did I know that the sound was trying to drive me out of the bad things that I was doing into engaging into a righteous lifestyle. However, I thought that a righteous lifestyle was meant for those people who were desperate in life. I therefore continued to live my life as I used to without caring about tomorrow. However, after I was declared jobless and I had spent all my resources on lavish activities, I sat down and thought about the voice that was once telling me to refrain from the lavish activities. I started thinking that the voice in my dreams was trying to direct me on the right path but I ignored it. Now is the high time that I am beginning to think of the things that I should have done when I first heard the voice in my dreams telling me that I should make the most out of my life. I am now aware that I should have listened to the inner voice that was telling me about molding my life when I still had the chance to do it....
