SELF-PORTRAITS REPORT

Scriptwriting or screenwriting is an art in which the writer develops a story from his or her imagination, life or other peoples work. The responsibility of a screenwriter is to illustrate his or her story in detail, this would include illustrating the moods of the characters in the story and the setting in the story. A film or television director and producer would work with a screenwriter to plan a script for their show or film. The selfie below represents my ambition to be a screenwriter.

Securing a degree is not a necessity meaning I am not required to have one to pursue this career however by studying and gaining a bachelor’s degree I will have perfected my skills, strengthen my chances of having a successful career and have the proof and a trophy of my accomplishment. A pro of having a career in screenwriting is the salary can be very good I would have a variation of genres to pick from and have the chance to do some freelance work however the cons of being a screenwriter are, I may have limited creative freedom, the pay may be inconsistent, many of the positions that are salaried require that I do have a university degree. A lot of hard work and dedication will need to be applied for me to land a job as a screenwriter because, the strive for high paying jobs always attracts a great number of people meaning hard competition, also the promotion of my work will be needed or I could risk my work going unnoticed. Experience is another key attribute I will need to have a successful career in screenwriting, I will be looking to gain this experience through work placements and internships. Working as a screenwriter for TV or film is not the only career I could follow as a scriptwriter I could work in an office environment as an editor or work from home, my responsibilities as an editor would be to review and…...

Selfie 2.0

...Selfie 2.0 The selfie is a self-portrait photo that is a quite widespread in social networks today. The history of this type of photography is much longer than one may expect. The first photo that can be called a selfie was taken by an American pioneer in photography Robert Cornelius in 1839. [photo of Cornelius] With the popularization of photo cameras in 1900s more and more people started taking pictures of themselves in the mirror. Of course, these were usually wealthy people. [2 more old selfie photos] With the emerging social networks, particularly MySpace, people started to post their selfies as profile pictures. Those were with the use of flash, in a bad quality and usually taken through the bathroom mirror. Later, with the Facebook gaining more popularity, those became unpopular, were called “MySpace pics”, were considered unprofessional, and were just a sign of a bad taste.[link NYer: http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/elements/2013/06/the-return-of-the-selfie.html] That could be the death of the selfie. However, it is back. In 2010s selfie suddenly started to gain popularity again. Barack Obama took a selfie of himself after his victory in the 2012 elections. This photo was retweeted 778 801 times in Twitter. [photo of Obama] In 2013 the word “selfie” was added to the Oxford English Dictionary and was announced as “The Word of the Year”. The Good, the Bad, and the Unexpected Consequences of Selfie Obsession

...A Outline Text 1 has the title “The Good, the Bad, and the Unexpected Consequences of Selfie Obsession”. The so-called “good consequences” are presented by explaining why the selfie is popular. “The cult of the selfie celebrates regular people” (p. 1, l. 17) “It allows you to control your image online” (p. 1, l. 20) “I like having the power to choose how I look” (p. 1, ll. 21-22) Just hearing these quotes would probably lead to a positive understanding of the subject, but immediately after the author indicates her own standpoint, Selfies have gone too far! “But let’s be real” (p. 1, l. 23) “There’s a danger that your self-esteem may start to be tied to the comments and Likes you get when you post a selfie, and they aren’t based on who you are – they’re based on what you look like” (p. 1, ll. 27-28) Just by the use of “but let’s be real”, the text clearly indicates that the previous “good view” is false. The doctor’s quote supports this, by pointing out the flaws and “unexpected” consequences that is teenagers playing with their own self-esteem and therefore identity. Text 2 however is written by a regular selfie-user and Instragram icon. As expected, the text therefore tries to defend the subject. “The selfie is the new way to look someone right in the eye and say, “Hello, this is me.” (p. 2, l. 18) As in this quote, the selfie is explained as a modern tool to show people who you are. It is presented as a “tool of communication”, that is now......

...Trayvon Martin Trayvon Benjamin Martin (February 5, 1995 – February 26, 2012) was a 17-year-old African American teenager from Miami Gardens, Florida who was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, in Sanford, Florida. Martin had gone with his father on a visit to the father's fiancée at her townhouse at The Retreat at Twin Lakes in Sanford. On the evening of February 26, Martin went to a convenience store and purchased candy and juice. As Martin returned from the store, Zimmerman spotted him and called the Sanford Police to report him, saying he looked suspicious. Moments later, there was an altercation between the two individuals in which Martin, who was unarmed, was shot in the chest. Zimmerman was not charged at the time of the shooting by the Sanford Police, who said that there was no evidence to refute his claim of self-defense and that Florida's stand your ground law prohibited law-enforcement officials from arresting or charging him. Zimmerman was eventually charged in Martin's death and a jury acquitted Zimmerman of second-degree murder and of manslaughter charges in July, 2013. Martin was born in Miami, Florida, and attended both Norland Middle School and Highland Oaks Middle School, in north Miami-Dade County, Florida. He attended Miami Carol City High School in Miami Gardens for his freshman and sophomore years, and at the time of the shooting was a junior at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School in north Miami-Dade. Following Martin's......

Plot Analysis of Short Movie "Selfie"

...Exercise 1. Plot analysis a. Setting: the movie begins with the sight of a man sitting lonely with his camera near the river bank in a breezing Valentine afternoon. He quietly watched many couples walking along the side of the river, talking happily together, hand-in-hand. b. Rising action: then, he suddenly saw a girl walking alone near the river. Curious, he quickly raised his camera towards her and saw that she was trying to persuade the passer-by to take her a picture with her phone, but she was ignored and became a bit frustrated, then she resorted to “selfie”. After that, the girl moved into many beautiful places, took her own pictures by herself and faked a smile in every single shot. She didn’t know that the man was following her and secretly taking pictures of her. c. Climax: the camera suddenly let out clicking voice indicated that the current memory card was full so he might run the risk of being unable to take any more pictures of the girl. Then he sat down and took out from his wallet another card which had a line “don’t delete” written on it. That card turned out to contain a lot of pictures and videos which reminded him of her ex-girlfriend and the time they spent together. And this meant that he was in the quandary whether keeping his happy memories with his ex or deleting them and moving on. He was confused, hesitated and noticed that the girl was then standing under a spectacular tower with some words inscribed on it “out of the mountain of......

Selfie

...out her phone turns the front to face her and snaps a selfie. The word is unmistakable. It has become so widely used, it was actually named the word of the year by the Oxford Dictionary. For those who tuned in to the Oscars this year, you’d know that host Ellen DeGeneres’ selfie broke Twitter records. According to an LA Times article, the photo of the funny woman, Jennifer Lawrence and Angelina Jolie among many other celebs received nearly 2.7 million retweets. But with this revolutionary photography technique (yes it has actually branched over to the world of “photography”) comes with it side effects that cannot be overlooked. A myth that has yet to be entirely debunked is that Millennials, the generation that essentially acted as a guinea pig for the evolution of technology and social media, are entitled narcissists. Psychologists have used selfie culture as a way of proving and demonstrating these vain attributes. A search of the word #selfies on Instagram brings up nearly seven million photos, which is a testament to their use. However, whether or not these photos are a plea for people’s attention or a tool for promoting positive self-image is unknown. “Honestly, I have more photos of myself on my phone than I do on any social media site. So I’d say it’s more for myself,” says Jennifer Hebert while scrolling through her photos. With features constantly added to instagram and on your smartphone, not only do selfie masters take photos, but they also edit them with......

Selfie Obsession

...study (Credibility in Wikipedia) A selfie is a type of self-portrait photograph, typically taken with a hand-held digital camera or camera phone. Selfies are often associated with social networking, like Instagram. They are often casual, are typically taken either with a camera held at arm's length or in a mirror, and typically include either only the photographer or the photographer and as many people as can be in focus. Selfies taken that involve multiple people are known as "group selfies" or "ussies". Robert Cornelius, an American pioneer in photography, produced a daguerreotype of himself in 1839 which is also one of the first photographs of a person. The concept of uploading group self-taken photographs (now known as super selfies) to the internet, although with a disposable camera not a smartphone, dates to a webpage created by Australians in September 2001, including photos taken in the late 1990s (captured by the Internet Archive in April 2004). The earliest usage of the word selfie can be traced as far back as 2002. It first appeared in an Australian internet forum (ABC Online) on 13 September 2002. Um, drunk at a mates 21st, I tripped ofer [sic] and landed lip first (with front teeth coming a very close second) on a set of steps. I had a hole about 1cm long right through my bottom lip. And sorry about the focus, it was a selfie. The term "selfie" was discussed by photographer Jim Krause in 2005, although photos in the selfie genre predate the widespread use of...
