The biggest technological change recently is the use of mobile phones. These days everybody seems to have them. Cell phones have improved safety. Children can now reach their parents and vice-versa. Schools can reach parents, too, and parents don’t need to worry about being out of contact during the day, as they can always be reached in an emergency. Everyone can connect everybody else in the matter of a few presses of buttons, a signal and a minute to connect. Victims of serious accidents such as car wrecks and earthquakes have been able to use their cell phones to contact help. With cell phones, help is always just a phone call away. Cell phones also have some negative impacts. It can be hard for people to get disconnected, for example, from work. Some employers assume that their employees will be permanently available for consultation or discussion, even when the employee is on vacation. When cell phones were first introduced, there was a lot of discussion about cell phone etiquette, but these days, most people seem to ignore that advice. People talk loudly on their phone in public spaces, and they take phone calls while in the middle of conversations with others. People answer their phones in movie theaters and conference presentations. Cell phones are a wonderful technology that adds to safety and the feeling of connectedness. They have become essential for business and personal use.

Also, technology has helped improve productivity at work by allowing manufacturers to produce more in less time using less manpower. Many simple tasks that workers used to do are now done by robots. For example, the robotic arm seen on a modern garbage truck enables the trash collection process to be done by one man. Although it may sound like a good thing, it has disadvantages too. Technology creates unemployment because of the fact that machines are cheaper to maintain than…...

Influence of Modern Technology

...Influence of Modern Technology The world is at its climax and is yet still aiming for higher achievements regarding technology. However, is it only good that technology is soaring so high as to allowing modern day people to rely on the convenience almost too easily? Cell phones and computers are only a small percentage of the technology in which we are almost depending on too much. There are robots that clean our carpets, and even small chips that are to hold our entire identity in the near future. Barack Obama, the current American president, had promised a massive change to “modernize health care by making all health records standardized and electronic.” A group of Senators and the President have as a matter of fact already convened to put together a bill to have every citizen have Bio-metric ID or VeriChip in their bodies. This idea has approached from Obama’s ambition for computerizing of all medical records in order to make health care more cost-effective. If this bill passes and becomes a law in the United States, the microchip will be forced to be inserted typically in every individual’s right arm in order to legally have a job. The microchip will consist of a barcode that will provide such information when scanned: fingerprints, retinal scans, and every other possible identification of an individual – allowing the government to track every move of a person. This chip will be produced using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Device) technology, and will have......

Modern Technology

...nowadays our society has enjoyed the benefits of having modern technology. We are blessed with modern tools, which could perform to what seemed to be an impossible task in the past like retrieving information in a matter of seconds. However, this often comes with unforseen and undesirable consequences defeating the very objective in the first place. To my mind, modern technology is a bane than a boon. It cannot be denied that the technological improvement brings forth to us some advantages. Firstly, it helps man communicate local or oversea by writing email, telephone or mobile. A student , for instance, who is studying abroad can talk to his family by chatting and web cam rather than waiting for a hand - writing letters. Secondly, the modern tools also support man in business and studying. It makes better condition to fulfill tasks faster and more convenient. For example, a student spend less time searching information and documents by clicking mouse on google rather than is stuck with many books in library. A business man can deal with his job by using laptop and internet whereas he can still enjoy holiday with his family. Nevertheless, for every solution technology provides twice as many problems are likely to cause. The modern technology is to some extent underlying causes of negative things in our society. It's Internet that provides an accessible medium for bad elements such as pornography, crimes and so on. the teenagers who are not conscious enough tend to......

Technology and Life

...Technology is all around us. We have become dependent on it. Could you imagine a day without your cell phone or computer? These devises have become, “attached to our hips” so to speak. I have heard plenty of people say, “I could not live without my cell phone” or “I would be lost without my computer.” Right now this is not something that people do not take very seriously, it is just an expression they us to express how important these devices have become to them. We all have become dependent on technology; most everything today requires technology to function making it hard to live a normal life without it today. Technology has become both a blessing and a curse, the problem is finding out if it is more of a blessing then a curse. Have you ever asked the question “can I live without technology?” To answer that question fully we would have to see how technology affects the mind and body. You would think that technology would have no effect on a person, when really it affects us more than you might realize. It depends on how you use the technology. Technology can help shape what defines you mentally and physically, if you let it. Put simply if you get use to technology making life easier then you are prone to become less active. Simple example, before computers if you wanted to know what was going on in the news, and the news was not on TV at that time then you would have to go to a newspaper stand and get a newspaper. This simple act required you to get up walk to your car......

...in.’ While you may dismiss this as just another trivial pop song, it nevertheless captures the modern reality that technological knowledge has not just enabled Man to meet his needs, but to master and manipulate the world around him for his own benefit. While many traditionalists may criticize these radical new uses of technology as pursuing selfish personal improvements, many urbanites would find these necessary for their advancement in society. In my opinion, the various forms of technology have become imperative in addressing our needs more than our desires. First and foremost, it is crucial to acknowledge that modern technology has addressed our most basic need for sustenance – food and water. Throughout history, scientific and technological advances have greatly impacted the agriculture industry. Scientists and researches have been at work to address the issue of scarcity of food and it is genetic modification that has allowed us to improve crop varieties by adding genes from other species. One successful application is the development of a corn hybrid, Bt corn, that is resistant to certain insect pests because of the addition of a gene from a natural soil bacterium. As a staple in the diets of both livestock and humans alike, the arrival of Bt corn in 1996 was very significant because it promised better production yield and easier harvests. Water purification technologies like Reverse Osmosis (RO) have also enabled Man to optimize the usage of scarce resources that...

Modern Technology as Instructional Material

...world evolves, the technology is also evolving and we can’t deny the fact that it is happening also to education. One of the examples is the modern technologies used by some of the teachers as their instructional materials. (Richards) Before, children were taught in a rigid and stereotyped way. Teachers used authentic or created materials as their tool in teaching the learners. Nowadays, there are lots of instructional materials to be used in teaching. There are new trends on language teaching and this is by the use of modern technology as their instructional material. These instructional materials include laptops, LCD projector, speech laboratory, power point presentation, tablets, etc. By the use of it, learners can relate to their discussion. Instructional materials serves as the basis for match of the language input learners and the language practice that occurs in the classroom. They can provide a detailed specification of content, even in the absence of the syllabus (Richards and Rodgers, 1986). It is an important element within the curriculum and their often tangible and visible aspect of it (Nunan, 1991). Technology has become an integral part of higher education instruction with the increased use of technology; instructional resources like the textbooks are slowly making their way into the higher education system. The use of technology is still increasing although main acceptance influences the user’s attitude towards the use of instructional technology. Its......

...to define what exactly is the technology. In principle the term literally refers to the study of the technique, that is, to all the theoretical or practical knowledge involving the scientific disciplines. According to this definition, something is to be a technology as such, you must have a use in a particular field. At the time that no longer used, it would be technology. Like that is pretty hard to categorize, we tend to talk about obsolete technologies or obsolete. No need to go to the time of the invention of fire to see technologies that have been replaced by others: that to our grandparents it was technology for our generation can be an anachronism without practical use. There is another concept used today such as new technologies, involving various fields of recent creation as computer science, telecommunications. Anyway in modern society living technology as old as the wheel with newer. The importance of technology is almost always linked to practical applications you may have. In fact, a very expensive or very complicated, technology doesn't succeed, because its implementation is very complicated. That's why sometimes technologies that seem rudimentary trump other much more 'modern'. Either way, technology tends to be in continuous progress, in general being the practical development of new ideas conceived by the scientific disciplines, and is therefore closely linked to the concept of innovation. ...In today’s society modern technology has helped us live longer, healthier, cleaner, and more comfortable lives than our ancestors did. Yet we are all aware of some technologies disadvantages, ranging from the minor frustrations we have with technology gadgets to the thousands of lives lost from automobile accidents. Technology has changed the way we as humans live; it changes our understanding of the way things work and changes the way we interact with one another. In science, our goal is to get further and understand everything there is to understand about our earth and our capabilities with technology.   But the way we are viewing technology now these days is making our life more efficient for us. When you look around what do you see? You see certain individuals walking around with a phone up to their ear, holding laptop cases, or just listening to music from their Ipod. ...Emerging Technology Paper Week 5 Assignment Anthony M. Garrett BIS/221 Instructor Keith Hopkins November 23, 2015 The emerging technology that I will be discussing is the military grade smart phone. The smart phone has been around for quite a while now but has yet to be introduced for government use. The blackberry has been the phone of use for the last 10 years. This is due to the simplicity of the use as well as how inexpensive the phone is. Due to its platform it is a phone that is not and cannot be used to the capabilities needed by the war fighter. The introduction of the smart phone is going to revolutionize the administrative and mission driven military. The google platform is going to open up document formation and implementation as well as PowerPoint. You cannot forget the importance of the GPS feature as well as the ability to transfer all information from one phone to the other simply by touching the two phones together. You also must look at the storage capabilities, and the ability to wipe, or erase all information remotely in the case that the phone is compromised. Other benefits that will come from this is the picture taking and processing capabilities that is not offered by the blackberry. Needless to say the ability to use these phones will greatly out do the benefits of the blackberry. Now we will discuss the drawbacks to the smartphone as opposed to the blackberry. First off the ability to ensure that the phones are used only for work will greatly...

...prone to frequent fluctuations in mood and self-control. If one of a student’s friends posted about his or her present relationship with someone, then other friends are pressed to do the same thing. Actions that attract more public attention hold more value, even despite some of them being immoral or illegal. We even see that many students are worried about their looks, and so they always try to upload nicer pictures than their friends. A recent survey has stated that whenever someone uploads a profile picture, it immediately affects the moods of friends. It often produces stress, anxiety or fear about their identities as people. Consistently thinking in this way can sometimes lead to depression. The most important things in a student’s life are studying, learning good habits and gaining knowledge to become a person with moral character. But today, as we see in various studies, this optimal learning process is seriously jeopardized by students becoming entrapped by the ploys of social networking. Students neglect their studies by spending time on social networking websites rather than studying or interacting with people in person. Actively and frequently participating in social networking can negatively affect their grades or hamper their journeys to their future careers. Getting too involved in social media can lead to an addiction that inculcates bad habits. Students prefer to chat with friends for hours, and this leads to a waste of time that could have been used for......
