The United States of America (USA), commonly referred to as the United States (US), America, or simply the States, is a federal republic[10][11] consisting of 50 states and a federal district. The 48 contiguous states and the federal district of Washington, D.C., are in central North America between Canada and Mexico. The state of Alaska is the northwestern part of North America and the state of Hawaii is an archipelago in the mid-Pacific. The country also has five populated and nine unpopulated territories in the Pacific and the Caribbean. At 3.79 million square miles (9.83 million km2) in total and with around 317 million people, the United States is the fourth-largest country by total area and third largest by population. It is one of the world's most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations, the product of large-scale immigration from many countries.[12] The geography and climate of the United States is also extremely diverse, and it is home to a wide variety of wildlife.
Paleo-indians migrated from Asia to what is now the U.S. mainland around 15,000 years ago,[13] with European colonization beginning in the 16th century. The United States emerged from 13 British colonies located along the Atlantic seaboard. Disputes between Great Britain and these colonies led to the American Revolution. On July 4, 1776, delegates from the 13 colonies unanimously issued the Declaration of Independence. The ensuing war ended in 1783 with the recognition of independence of the United States from the Kingdom of Great Britain, and was the first successful war of independence against a European colonial empire.[14][15] The current Constitution was adopted on September 17, 1787. The first 10 amendments, collectively named the Bill of Rights, were ratified in 1791 and guarantee many fundamental civil rights and freedoms.

Ebola Usa

...DALLAS — A 29-year-old nurse who is the second Texas hospital worker to test positive for Ebola is "ill but clinically stable" and will be transferred late Wednesday to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said. Emory University Hospital 's Infectious Disease Unit is where the first two U.S. Ebola patients — both health missionary workers stationed in Liberia — were treated and released in August. Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where the nurses work, has only three isolation units. The announcement came only hours after the CDC confirmed that the nurse, identified by family members as Amber Vinson, had flown on a Frontier Airlines flight from Cleveland to Dallas. CDC director Thomas Frieden said she had violated CDC guidelines against anyone using public transport while undergoing self-monitoring for exposure to Ebola. Frieden said Vinson did not report that her temperature had risen a small amount, to 99.5 degrees, before she departed for Dallas. He said her risk to other passengers was "very low." "We will from this moment forward ensure that no other individual who is being monitored for exposure undergoes travel in any way other than controlled movement," Frieden said. The CDC also asked the 132 passengers on Frontier Airlines Flight 1143 on Oct. 13 from Cleveland to Dallas/Fort Worth to call the CDC at 1-800-CDC INFO (1-800-232-4636). Frontier Airlines said in a statement that the passenger "exhibited...

Corruption in the Usa

...per capita, showing just how damaging corruption is to sustainable economic development, and why addressing it is one of the most important endeavors in Public Administration in the modern era. Corruption in the United States This paper seeks to address the prolific claim whether the Public Administrative landscape of the USA is effective at removing institutional corruption, and to do so we must look at the changing relationship of the US with corruption. The United States constitution sought to “Establish Justice (and) insure domestic tranquility”, and abolishing corruption was paramount to succeeding in these goals. The US sought to establish a democracy based on remedying the errors of nations long since passed at its inception; during the drafting process of the United States constitution in May 1787 Charles Pinckney asked – Can we copy from Greece and Rome? Both of these classical empires, despite their grand reputations as the beginnings of true civilization, battled with corruption, and were arguably destroyed by it, therefore the most important lesson for the US to learn from them was not to repeat their mistakes. It was for this reason that the USA was founded on the three overarching tenets of representative government, separation of powers and checks and balances – these created the very structure of the United States government. This never-before-seen true three branch system got its foundations in the writings of Charles de Secondat, Baron de Montesquieu, and......

...Kirin USA Q1. Run “Segmentation” from the Segmentation and Classification tool (do not enable the Discrimination) to find the optimal number of segments in the market. Explain where you decided to cut the dendogram and why? When we ran the segmentation a dendogram was created and this provided us with information regarding the amount of lost information when we clustered the data together. The top of the dendogram is where all clusters are grouped together and most information is lost. The bottom of the dendogram is where all the clusters are not grouped together and the information is most similar. According to the first dendogram that was created, we determined that the optimal number of segments is four. This is the optimal number of segments because at this point the first significant jump occurs from .55 to .89. Four clusters is the best approach because you lose information from 4-3 and when going from 4-5 the information is too scattered and becomes irrelevant and unfocused. This is why 4 clusters is the best approach. Q2. Use the number of the segments you determined in Q1 and re-run “Segmentation” from the Segmentation and Classification tool (enable the Discrimination). This time, in the Dendogram sheet, instead of 9 segments you should see the specific number of segments you determined. What are the key segments of import beer drinkers? How can you label them? Explain the profile of each segment according to the segmentation (not discrimination) variables...

Różnice między niewolniczym Południem i postępową Północą zaowocowały w 1861 r. wybuchem wojny domowej, w której zwyciężyła Północ. ...Will the incentive plan to reduce absenteeism succeed? The incentive plan to reduce absenteeism will probably be successful because it takes from what employees look to the most, their vacation time. The employees had found a way to be compensated for being absent which is not what was intended 10 years ago between the union and USA Motors. That being said it seems that the new incentive plan will be met with great resistance from the emloyees and they will need to roll it out and give employees time to accept the new plan. After all, employees will see this as a “free” week of compensation being taken away. This is a large organization with over 8,000 employees and there will most likely be initial problems with the plan but if you follow the steps of designing a total rewards plan then the program should not go astray. But, it’s a well-known fact that, in any large organization, change takes time. ( Bridgewater Today., 2002). Although it has been labeled high-priority for fall negotiations, it will not happen overnight, organizational culture, changes very slowly. (Schauber, A.C., 2001). How much absenteeism is really under the employee’s control? Unfortunately, there are times when an illness or accident occurs and that is not within the employees control. There could be an on the job accident, and that would fall under worker’s compensation. Workers' compensation laws are designed to ensure that employees who are injured or disabled on the job are provided with......

Sports in the Usa

...References 11 INTRODUCTION Americans pay much attention to physical fitness. Many sports and sporting activities are popular in the USA. People participate in swimming, skating, squash and badminton, tennis, marathons, track-and-field, bowing, archery, skiing, skating etc. But the five major American sports are hockey, volleyball, baseball, football and basketball. Basketball and volleyball have been invented in America. There is a large choice of sports in America. This can be explained by the size and variety of the country. Another reason of the popularity of sports is the people’s love of competition of any kind. One more reason is that Americans use sports activities for teaching socials values, such as teamwork and sportsmanship. All this explains why Americans have traditionally done well in many kinds of sports. Every high school offers its students many sports, such as wrestling, rowing, tennis and golf. There are no separate “universities” for sports in the USA. Students of any higher educational establishment are trained in different kinds of sports. Many colleges and universities are famous for their sports clubs. There are sports facilities at every school. Some Americans like active games and others like quite games. I think that quite games, as golf and crocket, intend for rich elite people. Most popular games in the USA are hockey, American football, baseball, basketball and soccer. I would like to explore these sports in my paper. 1.......

Communism in the Usa

...Communism in the USA 1: Source A suggests that in the 1920s, America feared that the working class would stop working and the country would go downhill. This is shown in the source by the person representing the labour class, walking down the stairs, labelled with words like strikes, riots and murders. This is showing us that America feared what would happen to the labour class. Source A also suggests that America thinks one event will lead to another, not knowing what it will eventually end with. This is shown in the source by the words on the steps, like disorder and bolshevism, and then by the question mark at the end. 2: Source C and source B are both telling us about the problem of communism in America after the war. From these sources we can learn that people who were communist, were frowned upon by many Americans, especially the government. We can tell this because source C says ‘Hundreds of poor labouring men and women are being thrown into jails and police stations’, and in source B, it says ‘determination to drive from our midst the agents of Bolshevism.’ Both sources refer to them as criminals as source B says ‘a mass formation of the criminals of the world.’ and source C says that they are being tracked down, like criminals. We are also told by by both sources that there was a huge amount of communists. We can tell this by the fact that in source B they are referred to as a ‘mass formation’ and source C says ‘the voice of the many.’ Source C, is......

Montreaux Usa

...Background With over $35 billion in revenues in 2011 and a growth rate of 2.8%, the confectionery industry in the U.S was an attractive market, and chocolate, comprising almost half the market at $17.6 billion, held some promise for new entrants. Apollo Foods, a California-based, global confectionery producer, acquired the well-known Swiss Montreaux Chocolate Company with the intention to expand its number-two position in the global confectionery business by launching a new product in the U.S. market. This venture would become Montreaux Chocolate USA, with new product development headed by Andrea Torres. While ambitious, Apollo aimed to achieve national distribution, $115 million in annual sales, and a 0.6% market share with their new product by 2015. In order to achieve their objectives, Apollo would have to gain greater penetration into the chocolate industry, a diverse and mature global industry. One of the greatest distinctions within the industry was between dark and milk chocolate. Globally, darker chocolates with higher concentrations of cocoa were perceived to have greater health benefits, and the U.S market was especially honing in on fitness and health in their consumption habits. The U.S. market was fragmented into multiple segments, with the largest being chocolates sold in bars/bags/boxes greater than 3.5oz at $7.149 billion in revenue in 2011. Moreover, convenience plays a huge role in purchasing decisions, as mass market chocolate dominates with 80% total......

...USA Motors Will the incentive plan to reduce absenteeism succeed? Explain your opinion. The new incentive plan Jack Parks developed to reduce absenteeism is, “if a chronically absent employee exceeds the standard, then vacation, holiday, and sickness/accident pay would be cut by 10% during the next six months (Strayer University syllabus, P.8). If worker absence continues to exceed the allowable limits, then vacation, holiday, and sickness pay would be cut during the next six months by the actual percentage of absent days incurred by the chronic absentee”. In my opinion, this incentive plan will work. To me, you have some responsible employees and some irresponsible employees. This may work for those that are responsible that will use their time wisely and understands that they are employed to produce for the company and it cannot be done if they are not there. On the other hand, you have those irresponsible employees that take advantage of every chance they get to try to beat the system. So, for them, they will quickly realize that if they continue the excessive absences, they will lose their time, with no one else to blame. This would probably make them more cautious of taking unnecessary time off and maybe understand the effect it has on the company and other employees. How much absenteeism is really under the employee’s control? Based on a Google definition, absenteeism is regularly staying away from work or school without good reason. There are two......

Welfare in Usa

...Welfare programs in USA Abstract This research will provide information regarding basic welfare programs in USA. Welfare state is a government that provides for the total well-beeing of its citizens and is akin to socialism. However, very few true welfare states exist. The United States is a good example of this as it provides some social insurance or entitlement programs to its citizens but does not espouse socialism. As socialism and democracy cannot go hand in hand, therefore, it is impossible for the United States to be one of the true welfare states. The United States does make efforts to provide for persons in need through a myriad of social service programs known as welfare. Welfare encompasses those government programs that provide benefits and economic assistance to no or low income Americans. It can also be defined as financial assistance to impoverished Americans which is supplied through the taxes paid by the working class. One of the main goals of welfare programs in USA is to improve the quality of life and living standards for the poor and underprivileged. Welfare help is usually extended to people groups other than just the poor and underprivileged such as the elderly, the disabled, students, and unpaid workers, such as mothers and caregivers Welfare programs available in the United States include: Medicaid, Food Stamps, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Head......

...Test Description There is a fundamental human need to belong to social groups. Evolution has taught us that survival and prosperity is more likely if we live and work together. However, to live together, we need to agree on common beliefs, values, attitudes and behaviors that reduce in-group threats act for the common good. We thus learn to conform to rules of other people. And the more we see others behaving in a certain way or making particular decisions, the more we feel obliged to follow suit. This will happen even when we are in a group of complete strangers. We will go along with the others to avoid looking like a fool. However the forces are strongest when we care most about respect and love from others in the group. Thus families and friends can apply very strong normative influence. People with lower self-esteem and who crave approval of others may well be more easily influenced this way. When a person in a group does not conform, then they may be considered a deviant and both private and public advice may be given to them on how to fit in. If they still do not obey norms, they will eventually be ejected and membership of the group revoked. National culture also has a significant effect, and people in countries like Japan, who have collectivist cultures, are far more likely to be influenced than in more individualistic cultures, such as in the USA (although it is a testament to the power of this effect that it still has a massive impact......
