Have you ever accomplished something that you did not think you could? My senior year of high school definitely proved this statement. My classmates and I climbed one of the highest mountains in the Shenandoah National Park, while facing numerous challenges.
As I walked outside on my front porch, I thought it was rather cool to be going on a camping trip. I thought, “What the heck,” it was still going to be fun. As I arrived at school, I saw Curry, my teacher, and only a few more classmates. “Where is everyone,” I thought to myself. This was going to be the last camping trip high school. I kissed my grandmother goodbye and got my gear out of the car. “This is not going to be the typical camping trip that you are used to,” Curry explained. I wonder what he had in store for us Curry explained that we, as a group, had to plan the entire trip. That meant deciding what equipment to bring, what food to bring, and which mountain and hike we were going to take. We quickly figured this out and we were on our way.
When we arrived at the park, I noticed that it was a bit cold. Being that I have camped in the past, I dressed appropriately. We started our journey onto the trail. “This isn’t going to be that bad,” I thought. As we were hiking, I looked at the trees that were turning into the colors of fall; red, orange, and yellow. Beautiful. As I was walking down the path, I could hear a familiar sound. It sounded like running water. I remember, as we looked at the map deciding which trail we were taking, not seeing a river on the trail. The farther we hiked, the closer that sound got and before we knew it, we were at a standstill. There was a huge tree that had fallen across a short river. How were we going to get across?
We had the slightest idea how we were going to get across the river. It…...

The Last Float Trip

...The Last Float Trip – analysis By Mads Brögger Klausen Summary The short story is about a 15-year old girl named Sam. Her father and she have been taking float trips as long as she can remember, but Sam has been offered a scholarship to a boarding school, and therefore this year’s trip seems to be the last one. Along with Sam and her father two others are joining them for the trip, Sam’s uncle Harry and a client of his, whose name is Laydon. With him Laydon is bringing a couple of guns, including a ‘’Nine-millimeter Ruger semiautomatic gun’’ which he intends to teach Sam how to use. She gets pretty good at it, but decides that her father must not know about the shooting. This little secret brings Laydon and Sam closer together and results in a creepy situation one night around the fire after Harry and Sam’s father have gone to bed. Laydon tries to touch Sam on some private spots, but she is clever enough to stop him and walk away. At the end of the trip Sam tells her father that she is now determined to accept the scholarship, maybe because he has discovered a bullet in Sam’s pocket just seconds before. Who is Sam? Sam is right on the edge of saying goodbye to her childhood and this trip makes her take the step to become a more independent and sophisticated young woman, this is also the story’s main theme. In the start of the float trip she is very nervous, shy and furthermore she is unsecure about her own person. At the end of the trip Sam has experienced a lot of new......

Road Trips

...Thomas1 Travis J. Thomas Ms. Janet Call English 112 October 6, 2013 Out of all possible road trips – the best one is by car. The moment when you finish packing, put everything inside the, sit inside it, buckle up look at your family sitting next to you, smile and…go! And then begins the most wonderful part of the road trip. It is not the place you are heading to – it is what you see from the opened window of the car. The best part is when you leave you home before the dawn. The DAWN! I really like to meet the first flashes of the awakening new day. Long before the dawn when you look in the direction of the east you see how the sun informs the world about its arrival. It paints the dark sky with its beams and the last stars disappear. I love to meet the sun, while driving out a road trip in a car. I am amazed by its game and its morning flashes of the sun rays. First, you notice a crimson-red stripe on the horizon. Then, the stripe becomes orange, pink and eventually the sun fills everything around. And it always seems like for the first time in your life you see a green leaflet, the trees, which grow right next to your car window and a light gaze over the nature which waking up to meet a new day. Thomas2 Two seasons of the year are perfect for a road trip – spring and autumn. Spring is my favorite season of the year. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful time of the year. Because when you are sitting in a car on your way to your destination - you open the car......

Moutain Trip to Beach Trip

...people are looking for an escape period allowing yourself to detach from the craziness. Gave yourself time to recharge and rejuvenate from the everyday stress. My family is no different we are all looked forward to the spring break. We got two weeks this year instead of the normal one week. My family started to write down ideas on pieces of paper, then put them in a paper sack. Next, we all took a turn and pulled one out of the sack the trip ideas that were pulled trip to the Wallowa Mountains, trip to the Oregon coast, and then Yakima, Wa was pulled from the bag. Once I saw what my mum and my son pulled, my paper got tossed over my shoulder. The challenge now were to pick from the two options trip to the Wallowa Mountains or the trip to the Oregon coast. We ponder on what the Oregon coast and the Wallowa Mountains offered in actives, accommodations, and weather in late March. We were down to trip to the Wallowa Mountains and the Oregon coast. As we looked at these two, we noticed these were just a few of the more common spring break trips. These two place Oregon coast and the Wallowa Mountains are still far from being a like each other. Then my family was curious about other things such as accommodations and the weather in late March. The weather in Oregon can be unpredictable in late March at the Oregon coast also at the Wallowa Mountains. The weather can be sunny one moment to down pour rain. The Oregon coast often in late March can be foggy and stormy with high winds.......

The Last

...Benjamin Lucas COMM240 – Interpersonal Paper The Last I recall a brightly lit room on a Sunday morning, as I kissed her on the forehead, “I love you…” Slowly she opened her eyes and as she sat next to me, “Hey… Um… How many were there before me?” she asked. “Like, how many girls did you love before me?” “Love? Five…” I stated. “I loved five women before you.” The disappointment in her eyes after a sigh, though she smiled… “What are their names?” “…Who, What, When, Where, Why…” I said to her. “Can you tell me about them?” “Who I loved, was a girl from college. I wasn’t exactly close to her, but with some superficial facts and a few interactions over a semester, you know, like most guys fantasizing over girls they barely know, I filled in the blanks like a fairytale author. And who she became in my head was probably more than the reality. She was a third year, sorority girl, and yeah, I was an infatuated freshman, sure, but the several times you get to spend together outside of class… It really allowed me to see, she also had a good heart and a bright spirit. The only problem was, so did just about every other guy. And while she turned me down nicely, I swear… There were times when it seemed like the cliché sorority girl may have felt something for the typical awkward freshman.” “What I loved, was an old friend, but she was more than just a friend. We met early in college and kept in touch through the years. We saw each other grow, and change...

A Trip to France

...We calmed down and followed our parents around. After some time, after seeing where all the princesses lived, we came to the conclusion that Disneyland wasn’t as fun as we had imagined it would be. We saw the princess parade and a place where you could see animals like horses, chickens and rabbits. I think that was the highlight on that trip. Anyway, sometimes it doesn’t matter what you do, but who you do it with, so I would say that I was very lucky to have my sister with me. Of course my parents were to have a bit of ‘fun’ too, so they chose for our family to take a guided trip on a boat. I remember we sailed past Notre Dame. At the time I only knew the building from the Disney movie, so I think I was expecting a man jumping around on the top of the building or something. Another thing I remember was that, when the guide on the boat first mentioned Notre Dame, all the Chinese people raised and for some seconds I only noticed the sound of their cameras. My parents found them quite funny, maybe because the Chinese are known for taking pictures of everything. Pictures of things many people would consider unimportant. Suddenly the boat trip was over. I realized I had fallen asleep. I don’t think it had anything to do with me being tired; I simply believe I was extremely bored and I couldn’t find anything more exciting to do. We got off the boat and walked to the Eiffel tower. When you see the Eiffel tower in TV or in pictures, you don’t get overwhelmed by its size, like......

In the national hospital ranking, Hackensack University Medical Center is one of the Top 50 hospitals in the United States. It is also one of the National’s Largest Cancer Centers, a National-Renowned Children’s Hospital and an Environmentally-Friendly Hospital Designed Just for Women. On April 7th, 2015, under the directions of Dr. Ramnarayanan, we had a trip to Hackensack University Medical Center to see how supply chain is used in the running of one of the best hospital in the United States. In the trip, the Vice-President of Supply Chain Management showed us how the supply chain works in HUMC to help them to improve their work efficiency, and told us about the benefits that the supply chain bring to HUMC. With the new technology used into the supply chain system in HUMC, automating manual processes become possible. Before, HUMC used paper work for the input and output of the medical device from the storage, the statistic of the medical device cost a lot of time and labor. Right now, they use the new technology to make this work much easier. The new handheld device can scan the barcode of each medical device, record the input and output of the medical device at the first time, then, send the data to the computer for statistic. Also, this can help the doctor to......

Trip

...I am keen on visiting interesting places when I get vacations. On car journey I would like to talk about today was my visit to Mount WUYI which is located in Fujian province. Last winter vacation, my family and I decided to go to Hainan. Unfortunately, we were informed that Hainan was hit from typhoon 2 days before our departure. As the city repaired damaged, there were still powerful following storms threatening this region. Out of a choice, we canceled our trip. However, it was not often the case that my family and I could get time together to have a holiday trip. In order to fully enjoy our vacation as we planned, we changed our destination to WUYI city. Due to the sudden change, we failed to buy train tickets and had to drive there on our own. It turned out that visiting places like Mount WUYI is perfect for self-driving. It was estimated as a 3-hour driving so we rented a SUV and switched drivers on the way. Each of us were responsible for a part of the highway, and whenever we saw something fascinating, we just pulled over the car to have a closer look at it. I guess those are the merits of renting a car and going on a trip with family. Mount WUYI, a very popular scenic area in China is famous for the natural conservation of numerous ancient plant species and wildlife. The popular activities there include hiking and drifting. The first day we rode a raft down the streams. The raft we took was tied by bamboo, and there were two men using long poles to steer the......

Slip or Trip?

...Brandon Lamarre 6/17/2016 English Composition and Rhetoric Slip or trip? Arthur Volupides, the husband of Queenie Volupides, was murdered by his wife, Queenie, that night or early the next morning. The reasons for this claim are many, as all of the evidence is pointing towards a very guilty Ms. Volupides. For this reason, I don’t believe that the wife is telling the truth. As the testimony goes, Mr. Arthur Volupides and his wife, Queenie Volupides, had gotten into an argument that night, just as Mrs. Volupides was leaving to go to a country club where a party was being held. After having a few drinks, Queenie returned home shortly before one o’clock in the morning. She invited her friends to come over for one last drink, but returned ten minutes before they arrived at her house. When they showed up, Queenie explained that Arthur had fallen down the stairs and died, with his glass still in his hand. The autopsy shows that Arthur died by a head wound and was drunk. There are many aspects of this story that simply don’t match the picture. To begin with, let’s look at how she answered the door. She exclaimed, “Something terrible has happened. Oh my God-what should I do”. This sounds too scripted to be a real reaction, especially when she didn’t shed a tear the whole time. As a rule, when your husband or a loved one dies, you call the cops immediately and you’re going to be in a very emotional state. Queenie didn’t show signs of either of those two things, as...

Choir Trips

...Lynsey Chapman Comp 1 Instructor: Newell Essay 2 Choir trips to New York City and Orlando During my four years in high school I participated in choir. Because of insufficient funds our school isn’t able to send both our band and choir each year, so our choir had a chance to go on a trip every other year. My sophomore year we went to Orlando Florida, and my senior year we went to New York City. While both trips were fun, the Florida trip was more focused on the competition and the New York trip was more sightseeing. To raise money for the trips, we had to do many fundraisers. These fundraisers included That’s my Pan, where you can choose what kind of pan you want, the color of the lid and also the design and saying on the lid. There is also personalized utensils you can get and cutting boards. We also sold pizzas, candy, chocolate, and cookie dough. We also had a car wash to raise money. On the Florida trip it was nice to have more freedom to go where we wanted to go. During that week, we stayed at one of the hotels on Disney world grounds so we were able to get up when we wanted and take a bus to which resort we wanted to go explore. During the Florida trip, we spent most of our time at the resorts but we slept in when we could. When we went to each of the resorts, to be safe we had to be in a group of three or four people. If something happened at any of the resorts during the whole week, there were a couple chaperones assigned to be at each resort. When we were in......

A Trip to Dubai

...The last time I had been to Dubai was when I was in Primary 4 and it has been a year or so already. It was time to visit my dad again in the June break. The transformation occurred before I even arrived at Dubai as flew on the Boeing 777 from Changi. Emirates Airline is simply the best of the best as it has an enormous selection of movies and TV programmes from around the world, as well as music, video games and the latest news. There's always something on to sit back, relax and enjoy. The sense of “newness” and space continued as we arrived at Dubai Airport with its cavernous roof and spotless facilities. My tired, old suitcase looked slightly embarrassed as it came around the carrousel into this opulent arrival hall. It looked like it had just turned up at the opera in jeans and a t-shirt! As I stepped out of the airport, I couldn’t recognise Dubai comparing to the last year, it had changed a lot since I last visited. I could spot at least 30 differences since I came starting from the airport! Nevertheless we proceeded and we took a local taxi to the hotel which was the Palace, Old Town. Don’t be misled by the phrase old town as the hotel is next to the Burj Khalifa (formerly Burj Dubai) which had just been built when we stayed. For the uninitiated the Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building at almost 1km high. I realised that when you are staying next to the World’s tallest building you are always going to be able to find your way back to the hotel! The Palace......
