Wuthering Heights has a very complicated narrative structure. There are two clear narrators, but in the nove ldialogue plays a great part, too. These narrations not only helps us to build the story in different levels, but also leads us to see from different perspectives. Also the story is understood easily by participation of the characters in the actions. I have indicated that the story is mainly told by two main narrators but apart from these narrators, we can see that other characters who are in the action, also explain to the reader what is going on as Catherine does at he begining in her diary. One thing to remember is that , the narrators are eyewitnesses, characters involved in the story, and they neither have an absolute knowledge about the events, nor about the inner life of the other characters. Which makes the story even more personal, any reader can read and take a side of his own as there is no omniscient narration. I have said that Wuthering Heights is told by several different narrators, including Nelly Dean and Lockwood. Of course, they differ from each other. To examine each of them a little bit; Lockwood’s narrative style isdifferent from Nelly’s style, and his language is also different . He writes with an educated literary language, with complex sentences, longer phrases. Along the book, his style becomes more and more sophisticated. The language used by Nelly seems particularlypredictable, coming from a housekeeper. It is simple, but not easy. Nelly is the housekeeper of Thrushcross Grange, as she has been before in Wuthering Heights, so, Nelly is an eyewitness-first person participant-main narrator of Wuthering Heights. Her narrative style is very different from Lockwood’s; plain and simple, shorter phrases; less sophisticated. As she dramatizes most of her narrative, it has an incredible energy and immediacy. The narrative technique is…...

...condition of Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. (WAG). Our opinions/recommendations are unbiased and we believe are representative of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). After reviewing the significant events for fiscal years 2010 – 2011, the following recommendations were determined (please see subsequent paragraphs & Exhibit A for revised 2011 income statement). During September fiscal year 2011, two sales were recorded for artwork that was undelivered and not paid for as of year-end. GAAP states that revenues should only be recorded when they are earned (goods are transferred or services are rendered). Our recommendation, in accordance to GAAP, is that WAG not recognizes these sales until the goods are transferred. Recognizing the sales before they are delivered (not in accordance with GAAP) would overstate net income. Revenues from ‘Artwork Sales’ should be restated at $30,600. As a direct result of sales being adjusted due to revenue recognition issues in accordance to GAAP, the ‘Cost of Artwork Sold’ needs to be adjusted as well. The company currently states that the average cost per piece sold is $1,000. This amount (cost) is subjective and no relative market value is given. In the future if the company continues to record its inventory at the lower of cost or market it would be advisable to have a financial accountant assess the current cost of inventory or, have readily available, the market value of relative items. If WAG does not adjust the......

...The results of the study scaled the dogs on five dimensions of behavior temperament: playfulness, curiosity/fearfulness, chase-proneness, sociability, and aggressiveness (De Palma et al., 2005). Dogs living in rescue shelters were assessed as demonstrating a low degree of playfulness, showing distraction by the environment when being enticed to play. The sheltered dogs also scored low on curiosity but, high on fearful behavior. The cortisol levels for the sheltered dogs were significantly higher than the cortisol levels of canines living in households, indicative of stress and anxiety associated with shelter lifestyle. Shelter dogs showed a low proportion of chase-proneness supported by demonstrations of low physical activity and excitability. Shelter dogs were assessed as exhibiting low levels of sociability toward conspecies but, a high sociability when concerning humans (De Palma et al., 2005). This trend was also demonstrated when observing levels of aggressiveness; the dogs seemed more antagonistic toward conspecies than humans. It should be noted that shelter dogs displayed rare bouts of hostile behavior and results were supported by little data. It is interesting to find a set of shared characteristics existing in canines living in rescue shelters. Such findings lead one to speculate if the shelter environment may be partly responsible for inducing behavior characteristics? After all, dogs living in shelters are subjected to a variety of stressors including......

Dog Fighting

...Dog Eat Dog? Dog fighting has been around for hundreds of years and can be traced back to Europe. The sport of dog fighting is progressively getting more and more popular. It is illegal and considered a felony under federal laws in all fifty states in the United States of America (Dogfighting Fact Sheet 1). Besides the act of dog fighting itself being illegal, there are usually always other criminal activities involved such as: drug paraphernalia, illegal weapons, illegal gambling, and gang activities. Therefore, this so-called sport of dog fighting should continuously stay prohibited, and be more harshly punished by stricter laws. This brutal and bloody entertainment sport, where dogs fight to the death, is an inexcusable example of animal cruelty. Dog fighting is believed to have started in England after bull-baiting was outlawed. Bull-baiting was a spectator sport where a bull had a rope tied around its neck and then tied to a stake in the ground. Bulldogs were then sent to attack or “pin down” the bull by grasping the bull by its nose. Many dogs would receive life threatening wounds or would be killed by the bull trying to escape the torture of numerous dogs attacking him (Luca 1). After this very popular sport was banned people who owned these bull-baiting dogs, also known as bulldogs today, began pitting these dogs against each other. After people began participating in the sport of dog fighting, people began breeding bulldogs with terriers (Background on Dog......

...Additional Perspective Why does a dog wag its tail? Because a dog is smarter than its tail. If the tail were smarter, the tail would wag the dog. The opening credits have a various interpretation, according to Philip Coppens. Some suggest that the dog symbolizes public opinion and the tail represents the media. Other would say that, the tail symbolizes political campaigns and the dog is the media. But sometimes, the dog is the people and the tail is the government. So, Coppens stated that the phrase “tail wagging the dog” is the same as “any case where something of greater significance (such as war) is driven by something less (such as sex scandal)”. Moreover, it was believe that the moment before the start of the press conference in which Monica Lewinsky was about to give information of her presence in the Congress, White House announced the missile strikes against Sudan and Afghanistan. Critics argue that the operation was made to draw away the publics’ attention from the scandal of Clinton and Lewinsky. Barry Levinson’s film was a product of inspiration from the book of Larry Beinhart, American Hero. American Hero was about President George Herbert Walker Bush and Desert Storm, a fake war and the first war in Iraq. Bush planned the Persian Gulf to guarantee re – election in 1992, but he failed. Wag the Dog Reaction Paper

...I. Background Information Wag the Dog is a hilarious new satire movie directed by Barry Levinson. Ironic with the genre of the film as a comedy, it carries a serious and an eye-opening message about the relationship between politics and mass-market entertainment. This is one of Levinson's best films, and the screenplay, co-penned by noted writer David Mamet along with Hilary Henkin, is brilliantly on-target. The story begins with presentation of the premise which is the president of the United States is accused of having sex with a teen aged girl who belongs to an organization similar to the girl scouts and the election is less than two weeks away. A brief encounter with a Firefly Girl becomes public knowledge, and now his 17% lead is about to go downhill. The president's opponents get wind of the story and use it to their advantage. Thus, this led the president's Public Relations team to take action regarding the crisis. Winifred Ames played by Anne Heche, one of the President's top aides, calls in spin doctor extraordinary, Conrad Bream (Robert De Niro). Conrad goes to work immediately, thinking of the best way how to turn away the public's attention from the Firefly Girl issue. He came out with the idea to create another bigger issue for the public to think about and over power the bad publicity caused by the sex scandal. "Change the story, change the lead" is his motto, so he decides to manufacture a small, cost-effective war against Albania, which he euphemistically...

...Jesus Ojeda Top Five Guard Dogs There are top five dogs when it comes to guard and protection, according to Cesar Milan these are the top five dogs; the Bullmastiff, the Doberman, the Rottweiler, the German Shepherd and the Belgian Malinois. These dog breeds have characteristics that make them the best choice when looking for a guard or protection dog. The Bullmastiff is an English dog breed obtained by crossing 60% Mastiffs with 40% Bulldogs. This dog breed dates from 1795.The Bullmastiff was used as a game keeper’s do, even though they were fierce and threatening, they were trained not to bite the prey or in case of a house, the intruder. This breed had a darkish color. But when game keeper dogs were not required anymore, people stop caring about the dark color for night camouflage and so the light fawn coloration became more popular.(AKC, “Bullmastiff”) The Bullmastiff is docile and affective but if it’s provoked it becomes fearless. In the case of a guard dog if an intruder brakes into its territory the Bullmastiff wont attack in order to kill the intruder instead it will catch an intruder, take him down, hold him down and start barking to alert its owner. This breed is also good with children; it is intelligent, even-tempered, calm and loyal. The male Bullmastiff has a height of twenty-seven inches and weighs 133 pounds. They can do okay in an apartment if sufficiently exercised. They cannot tolerate extreme temperatures .With a life expectancy of ten years the......

...Dog Swimming a. importance of swimming Just as swimming for people is recognized for its conditioning and therapeutic value, so has it been recognized for “man’s best friend” -the dog. For dogs that are overweight, need conditioning, or have disabilities that make normal exercise painful or inappropriate, swimming can provide an excellent alternative or supplement to ground-based programs. Also, swimming can provide dogs excellent rehabilitation therapy, aerobic conditioning, exercise, relaxation, interaction with other dogs and great of fun! b. how to swim Dogs, like all animals, have the natural ability to swim but generally have to learn water confidence before a specific swimming program can be developed. There are two swimming pools in our company. A training pool provides the initial swimming introduction and allows the dog to gain their water confidence. The main pool allows the dog to swim in 30 yard laps or to swim freely to retrieve, train or just swim for the fun of it. Swim Center staff performs the initial swimming of the dog, but owners are encouraged to take over once the dog has graduated from the training class. Dogs wear a chest harness for support and are walked down a gentle sloping ramp into the water. For dogs with paralysis or inability to walk, they are gently lifted and placed into the water and supported by the harness, or in some cases a flotation device may be used, while they develop their swimming stroke. Once the dog is......

The term "domestic dog" is generally used for both domesticated and feral varieties. The dog was the first domesticated animal[4][5] and has been the most widely kept working, hunting, and pet animal in human history.[citation needed] The word "dog" can also refer to the male of a canine species,[6] as opposed to the word "bitch" which refers to the female of the species. The dogs' value to early human hunter-gatherers led to them quickly becoming ubiquitous across world cultures. Dogs perform many roles for people, such as hunting, herding, pulling loads, protection, assisting police and military, companionship, and, more recently, aiding handicapped individuals. This impact on human society has given them the nickname "man's best friend" in the Western world. In some cultures, however,......

...enlgish 921 potty The dog is a loving companion to a man. He is happy to go everywhere with his master. He shows his affection for his master by wagging his tail and licking his hand or face. Dogs were not always like this. Overtime humans have domesticated dogs into making them loving pets. At one point dogs were able to pee wherever they want, eat whatever they want, and do whatever they want. Now we provide our dogs boundaries and train them to become our best friends. Eating and playing comes naturally to dogs just as it does to humans when they are born. Just like human babies one thing that does not come naturally to dogs is being potty trained. Adding a furry litte friend to the family sounds like a lot of fun and many would not think of it as such a difficult task to do since all dogs do is eat and play which obviously does not need to be taught to then but the hard part comes when it is time for them to relieve themselves and they choose do to this task on your living room floors, bedrooms, and bathrooms. For most dog owners who have little to no dog experience potty training can be a very difficult task to do but I am here to make this job a tad bit easier for you and your furry friend. Potty training your dog or puppy requires far more than a few stacks of old newspapers, it calls for vigilance, patience, plenty of commitment and above all, consistency. The first step to potty training is introducing the spot you would like your dog to go potty. Like babies,......

...Most people said that dogs are man's best friend and a great companion. They had been domesticated ever since the beginning of time. They are different breeds of dogs throughout the whole world and in this essay that I'm writing about, I'm going to compare and contrast three unique and one of some kind types of dogs that I chose to write about. They are the Basset Hound, the Chihuahua, and last but not least the Pit Bull. What makes these dogs so similar is that they are the most popular pets in the world. They ordinarily remain loyal to considerate masters, and because of this they have been called man's best friend. A dog fits easily into family life. When a master tells a dog that it is good, the animal happily wags its tail. But when a master scolds a dog, it skulks away with a sheepish look and with its tail tucked between its legs. Some dogs can herd animals in a farm, and some of them can also serve as watch dogs, or even as playful family pets. Dogs are even trained as guard dogs in peacetime by the U.S. Army and other military services. Because of their keen sense of smell, the police at times to track down escaped prisoners use dogs. Law enforcement agencies also rely on the dog's acute sense of smell to uncover illegal drugs. And specially trained dogs serve as the "eye of the blind, guiding steps of their sightless masters around obstacles and hazards. However there are some characteristics that make the Basset Hound, Chihuahua, and the Pit Bull different......

...context, ‘Wag the Dog’ (a 1997 film directed by Barry Levinson). I aim to get my readers to recognise the large role that media play in influencing our realities along with how dangerous the collaboration of the media and the government truly is. In order to put forth my opinion I’ll write in a cynical tone to portray that the motives of particular people are bad, I’ll use factual (gun crimes in the US) and fictional (‘Wag the Dog’ and ‘Leaky Boat’) evidence and I’ll use proper terminology to add sophistication and credit to my piece. In this piece, I draw on examples from ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997 film directed by Barry Levinson), ‘Leaky Boat’ (2011 ABC documentary) and gun crimes in the US in order to illustrate the idea that people are easily influenced by external sources, especially when they have authority. ESSAY: Stephan Lewandowsky’s study shows that “weighing the plausibility of a message is cognitively more difficult than simply accepting that the message is true – it requires additional motivational and cognitive resources.” This shows why peoples realities are heavily influenced by others, this is due to the difficulty of weighing the plausibility and the foundation of the reported truth or version of reality. People’s reality can be influenced by the media, government, values, beliefs and perceptions. This is apparent in ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997 film directed by Barry Levinson), ‘Leaky Boat’ (2011 ABC documentary) and gun crimes in the United States. ‘Wag the Dog’ is......

...February 14, 2012 Stephen Conley Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. 117 Western Ave. Peoria, IL 61604 Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to meet with us.During our meeting, you stated that you (Stephen) are planning to purchase your co-owner’s (Rob Wilco) shares of Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. (WAG). As a private company, WAG’s shares do not have a readily available market price. However, you and Rob have agreed on calculating the buy-out price using the “earning multiplier” equal to five times the GAAP based net income for the year ended September 30, 2011.You stated that you would like an opinion regarding the 2011 financial information as it has not been audited. You would like to know whether WAG’s fiscal 2011net income fairly reports the company’s financial success as this will be the basis of your purchase price of the company. We discovered several areas of concern: revenue recognition, allowance for doubtful accounts/bad debt, inventory valuation/cost of goods sold, capitalization/depreciation of assets, and accounting for dividends. We based our audit on the U.S. GAAP, IRS and FASB standards, which includes the sources listed at the end of this letter. Revenue Recognition Wag Company reports revenue when a price is agreed upon with a buyer. According to GAAP, revenue is recognized only when realized or realizable and when earned. Realized revenue is when products are exchanged for cash or claims to cash. Revenue in considered realizable when a promise to pay......
