Which of the four operations on functions do you think is the easiest to perform? What is the most difficult? Explain why.

The operation of adding function is easiest to perform because we can only combine like terms. If there are no other like terms within the operation that constant or variable remains as is. For example f(x) = 3x^2 + 1, g(x) = 3x +2.
Solve (f+g)(x) = f(x) + g(x).
(3x^2 + 1) + (3x + 2) = 3x^2+3x+1+2 = 3x^2 + 3x+ 3
In this equation 3x^2 and 3x, although similar are not alike so they cannot be combined.
The most difficult operation to perform is multiplying functions because we also have to remember the properties of multiplying exponents. There is more work that has to be evaluated when it comes to multiplying functions.

Is the compound interest formula—such as would be used to calculate a car loan—an example of a function? If yes, of what type of function is it an example? Why might you identify it with that type of function?

Yes, a compound interest formula used to calculate a car loan is an example of a function. The compound interest formula is A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt) and would be considered an exponential function because P, r, and n are all fixed variables/ constants and t appears as the exponent which would be the changing variable.

The function would then be written as A(t)= P(1 + r/n) ^ (nt)
A= accumulated amount, t = the number of years, P = the beginning principal, r = the annual interest rate and n = the number of compounding periods per year.

Develop a word problem that contains 3 scenarios for a company. Use 2 of the 3 scenarios to form 6 compositions. Based on your findings, make a proposal that is best for your company.

A car insurance company is planning to buy a television to put inside their waiting room to occupy their clients. They go to an electronic store and find they are running a sale on plasma TV’s. They have a 42” on sale for $450.00 and a 42” bundle package for $550.00. The bundle package includes a 1 year warranty and a wall mount which is normally a $150 value. The electronic store is also running special promotional offers.
Additional 20% off the purchase when opening a charge account f(x) = .80x
10% coupon from the weekend ad g(x) = .90x
One day special of $50 off a purchase of $200 or more h(x) = x – 50
Based on the above information, which TV and combination of special offers would be the best deal?

Special offer | 42’’ | 42’’ bundle package | Charge account f(x) = .80x | .80 ( 450) f(x) = 360 | .80 ( 550) f(x) = 440 | Coupon ad g(x) = .90x | .90 ( 450)g(x) = 405 | .90 ( 550)g(x) = 495 | One day special h(x) = x – 50 | 450 – 50 h(x) = 400 | 550 – 50 h(x) = 500 |

Special offers | 42’’ | 42’’ bundle package | Charge account + Coupon adg(f(x)) | g(360).90 X 360324 | g(440).90 x 440 396 | Charge account + one dayh(f(x)) | h(360)360 – 50310 | h(440)440 – 50 390 | Coupon Ad + charge accountf(g(x)) | f(405).80 x 405 324 | f(495).80 x 495396 | Coupon ad + One day specialh(g(x)) | h(405)405-50355 | h(495)495 – 50445 | One day Special + chargef(h(x)) | f(400).80 x 400 320 | f(500).80 x 500 400 | One day Special + coupon adg(h(x)) | g(400).90 x 400360 | g(500) .90 x 500 450 |

For the current promotional offers, it would be best if the car insurance company purchased the 42’’ bundle package. Thus, applying first the 20% off for opening up a charge account and then the one day special of $50 off a purchase of $200 or more.…...

Discussion Question - Week 6

...Introduction This week study module is all about my learning styles and how best I make use of my ability to learn, as a student on the MBA program. It is true that I might have a distinctive learning style. This particular learning style might have an impact on how well I am coping in my studies. It is particular true that some might learn best through audial information and others through visuals. Even so, there exist many different theories that were presented to us this week that describes how we as students prefer to learn best. Preferred Learning Style Carl Jung (1875 – 1961) developed a theory on learning style that categorises people in terms of different learning personality patterns. He highlighted two important processes that are important in learning, 1) how we take in information and 2) what we do with that information once it is in our brain. He called the first perception and the second judgement. This theory led to the ‘Meyers-Briggs Type Indicator’ (MBTI). However Kolb (2005) believe our learning styles comes from ‘genetics, our life experiences and demand from our current environment’ (Kolb, 2005). Four different learning styles were also developed and the theory of experiential learning and learning style inventory. In reading the four different styles by Kolb, I can easily associate my learning to ‘The Accommodator’. This style can be attributed to those strong in experience and experimentation. I am a doer and this style is for those that enjoy doing...

...HRM 530 Week 7 Discussion #1 "Training Assessment" Please respond to the following: • Imagine you are a new employee in a human resource (HR) department. Your first task is to develop a stress management seminar for the employees. Determine the topics that should be covered in the seminar. Support your selection of the topics. • Develop criteria to assist in selecting the vendor to use for the training. As a new employee in the HR department tasked with developing a seminar for stress management, I would first: Identify the training audience; ascertain the training needs in levels of importance; develop training programs that have been demonstrated to be successful and that are cost effective to the organization; create the programs and appropriate training hours needed and that are available; ensure time for feedback after training; ensure on the job training so that "lessons learned" can be used and demonstrated on the job. I would also cover workload, setting priorities, getting help when needed, and setting reasonable goals. The selected vendor I would use would be in the form of an informal presentation. Open ended discussions and participation would be encouraged. Feedback would be solicited at the end of the training. Lastly, surveys would be handed out at the end of the training to rate the training and/or garner improvements. Stewart, G.L. and Brown, K.G. Math 221 Discussion Question

...Week 1 DQ 1 Response 1) Given the enumeration methods; sum rule, product rule, permutations, combinations along with enumeration methods for indistinguishable objects, how can we devise a strategy to solve problems requiring these methods? A basic concept in the branch of the theory of algorithms called enumeration theory, which investigates general properties of classes of objects numbered by arbitrary constructive objects (cf. Constructive object). Most often, natural numbers appear in the role of the constructive objects that serve as numbers of the elements of the classes in question ("Enumeration", 2013). The Sum/Difference Rules refer to the derivative of the sum of two functions is the sum of the derivatives of the two functions ("Basic Derivative Rules", 2013). The product rule is one of several rules used to find the derivative of a function. Specifically, it is used to find the derivative of the product of two functions. It is also called Leibnitz's Law, and it states that for two functions f and g their derivative (in Leibnitz notation, ). The derivative of f times g is not equal to the derivative of f times the derivative of g: .The product rule can be used with multiple functions and is used to derive the power rule. The product rule can also be applied to dot products and cross products of vector functions. The Leibnitz Identity, a generalization of the product rule, can be applied to find higher-order derivatives ("Definition Of Product Rule", 2013). A......

...utilities are among common company explicit costs. Because of their predictability, explicit costs are easier to budget for and account for in financial recordkeeping. Companies use explicit costs in budget preparation. They total the projected amounts of explicit costs based on monthly payments or average costs for an item over time. This provides a basis for understanding the break-even point at which revenue covers explicit costs. A high number of less predictable costs makes budgeting more difficult and leads to greater fluctuation in business income. These costs are never hidden, one has to pay separately. Source: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/explicit-cost-definition-65796.html From the e-Activity, recommend whether the company in question should or should not continue to produce the good or service. ...group of individuals to certain qualities or characteristics. Whether they be positive or negative. For example, a common stereotype is that all Muslim people are terrorists. Though that may be true for a very insignificant percentage of the Muslim population, it is actually highly inaccurate. If someone were to stereotype me with something, I would probably say that they would label me as a gamer nerd that expresses my anger through games on Xbox. 3. Language and culture almost go hand in hand. But they can cause major differences even when two cultures use the same language. A prime example of which is America and England. As I mentioned before, humor is one of the biggest differences that I have noticed between the two countries. 4. One big example of body language meaning different things in cultures is what in America we say as A-OK. Which is connecting your index finger and thumb together while keeping your other three fingers extended. While it is common for us to do this in social situations in the US, in France it means something completely different. It means “zero” or “worthless”, and in Japan it is a symbol of wealth and money. This can effect business when trying to recognize a person’s emotions through their facial expressions. Research has shown that cultures worldwide can distinguish facial expressions and relate them to almost any type of emotional feeling. 5. In monochromatic time systems, time is expressed in a linear fashion. For example,......

Week 1 Discussion Question

...Discussion questions “Marketing is managing profitable customer relationships” (Armstrong & Kotler, 2011, p.4).  In marketing you want be able to get new customers, while also still satisfying your existing customer.  Word of mouth marketing from customers is business’s best and worst thing for a company.  If customer was impressed it makes a company look really good, but if customer was not impressed you could also lose customers because of what another customer said.  The end of day goal in sales is to profit through sales volume, and marketing’s end day goal is to profit through customer satisfaction. I do think that marketing and sales should be included as part of the sales organization within a company.  Marketing gets the customers in door, so then the sales team can sell the correct product to the customer.  Marketing and sales need to work hand and hand, to make sure marketing is getting the right people in the door to get the product.      Armstrong, G., & Kotler, P (2011). Marketing: An Introduction (10th ed.). Upper Saddle River, NJ: Prentice Hall. Planning is very important in marketing because you have to know how to market your products.  A market plan is made of strategic and tactical plans. “The marketing planning process consists of analyzing marketing opportunities, selecting target markets, designing marketing strategies, developing marketing programs, and managing the marketing effort”( Kotler & Keller, 2012, p15).  A market plan......

These theories would summarize the top five ethical issues I perceive to be a challenge in health care today. Describe at least two ethical principles discussed in this week's reading material. Apply those principles to two examples of ethical challenges that exist in the delivery of health care today. Do these principles assist in overcoming the challenge or do they create more of an ethical dilemma? Why?
