What distinguishes you as a unique candidate for CMU? Napoleon once famously said, “Take time to deliberate; but when the time for action arrives, stop thinking and go in.” For me, the time of deliberation has come to an end. My path of action is to be a Carnegie-Melon University Graduate. The leap from being an eighteen year old to a nineteen year old is a very subtle change in numbers, but is often one of the most momentous changes you go through. In coming of age one is often burdened with independence, motivation and the uncertainty of the future. In my opinion, having to undergo these changes while juggling the rigorous demands of college academic’s frequently leads to the wrong decisions. What separates me from all the other potential candidates is that I have the independence, motivation and experience from the real world to apply myself fully at Carnegie-Melon University.
In my experience from manufacturing with National Petroleum Product Company (NPPC) to banking with Qatar National Bank (QNB), leading to auditing with one of the big four firms; KPMG, I have had a wealth of exposure to the business world. I have undergone job experiences such as an apprenticeship at NPPC, which introduced me to the responsibilities and work ethic required to succeed. An Internship at QNB Capital which gave me the platform to develop a professional persona and understand the nuances of the business world, and lastly a rigorous 12 hour daily internship at KPMG which has taught me the skills to work and think both independently and as a valuable member of a team.
These experiences all complement the diverse skill set that shaped my personality. I have volunteered in red-cross sponsored charity events and organized my own events (American School of Doha Talent Show, Pakistan Flood Relief Red Cross Charity Fundraiser). I find that one very useful skill in my repertoire…...

Why Teens Choose Abortion

...Why Teens Choose Abortion There are so many sources that could be used to gain knowledge about why teens choose to get abortions, but there are only several reliable sources about that topic. It is very important to rely on credible sources. The use of good sources can lead to information that is credible and accurate. If using non-reliable sources about finding information about a specific topic you could be getting all the information wrong because of the non-credible sources that are being used. Because I used reliable sources I was able to come up with the conclusion that the number one reason why teens choose to get abortion is because when they feel pressured they tend to find an escape to the problem, in this case, abortion. A source is more credible if written by someone with a degree or other credentials in the subject of interest. If no author or organization is named, the source will not be viewed as very credible. An example of a good source about the reasons why teens choose abortion is the article “Why Teens Choose Abortion” by Linda Lowent. This article proves to be a reliable source in so many ways. One way is by giving us a publication date. The publication date is not only important but the fact that is recent, April 15, 2011, makes it a more reliable source. Also, the website where this article was published at is known web page which makes it a credible article. The most important evidence that makes this article a credible one is the author. The name...

...Why I chose science – I’m studying this undergraduate course (Bachelor of Science, specialisation) namely because it’s a very open biology course which will offer me a great base as to what I’d like to study post my undergraduate degree. Science – especially biology has always interested me, walking out of a class and feeling more educated in a subject truly is a great feeling. Knowing that when I study I’m studying the world around me, what makes up our world and how we can better understand it. My goal with science isn’t ‘what is life about’ but more ‘what makes up life’. Learning about how we evolved to how everything’s gas waste products help to create a greenhouse effect in order for us to keep on living. I cannot imagine a time when science was outlawed, science is amazing and is slowly but surely answering the mysteries of life, and I definitely want to be on board helping the human race delve into the depths of it! I was never given opportunity to study chemistry at the high school level, so learning about the Molecules in different chemical reactions and how they react when a another element is added is fascinating to say the least. Why O Choose Bp

...I choose to find the art work that best symbolizes symmetrical balance first because I know it would be the easiest to find. After flipping through the book I landed on Diego Rivera, Man, Controller of the Universe, or Man in the Time Machine, 1934. Symmetrical balance is defined by taking a piece of art and cutting it in half and having both cut pieces be the same or near perfect. With this piece there are some differences with the objects on each side of the man but I believe if you cut it in half the differences are minimal. The only slight differences would be the colors and designs in what seems to be part of the ship. Each side has rows sitting and statues facing the man driving. On each side of the, what I am calling ship, there are to mirror looking things that are exactly the same. Both sides have the same shapes and angles that I feel make this painting symmetrical. You can see easily that what was going on during this time this was painted had an influence on what figures he put in the background. This may not be a mirror image but I feel like it represent symmetrical balance. Next I decided to go next in line and hunted down a painting representing asymmetrical balance. After going back and forth with some I landed on Van Gogh, Starry Night, 1889. This one seems asymmetrical to me because it has the big broken tree on one side which represents the heavy single object and the town with the big moon on the other balancing it out. Even if you cut......

Why Investors Choose Sharemarket

...Chittagong Stock Exchanges. One reason for the small number of current IPOs is that the objects simply have been valued higher by PE companies than they would do in an IPO. PURPOSE: The purpose with this thesis is, from a shareholder’s point of view, to analyze and describe the reasons of making an IPO instead of selling to a PE company. METHODOLOGY: Since the research is based on gathering and understanding information regarding specific persons’ choices and motives, a qualitative approach has been conducted. CONCLUSION: All the main motives of the IPO could have been achieved by selling to PE Company, except the motive of attaining share liquidity. One of the attractive reasons for share liquidity is that shareholders easily can choose between reducing ownership, increasing ownership or remain with existing shares. Another attractive reason is that financial institutions normally become shareholders, which in turn increases the credibility of the company. Eight out of the ten companies had parallel plans to the IPO; most of them including a possible PE buy-out scenario. However, no PE Company offered a price high enough for the individual companies. Either the existing owners received a better IPO price, or the remaining owners believed that the stock exchange would out-perform the PE price offers in the long run. Theory means that buy-out has got its advantages compared to IPO, but the empirical findings show that the alternatives were on the contrary quite......

Why Choose Multiple Choice

...Why Use a Multiple Choice Test? Multiple choice testing is an efficient and effective way to assess a wide range of knowledge, skills, attitudes and abilities (Haladyna, 1999). When done well, it allows broad and even deep coverage of content in a relatively efficient way. Though often maligned, and though it is true that no single format should be used exclusively for assessment (American Educational Research Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education , 1999), multiple choice testing still remains one of the most commonly used assessment formats (Haladyna, 1999; McDougall, 1997). What is a Multiple Choice Test? The multiple-choice test is a very flexible assessment format that can be used to measure knowledge, skills, abilities, values, thinking skills, etc. Such a test usually consists of a number of items that pose a question to which students must select an answer from among a number of choices. Items can also be statements to which students must find the best completion. Multiple-choice items, therefore, are fundamentally recognition tasks, where students must identify the correct response. Instructor Preparation Time: | Medium to high if you are writing your own items the first time; low if you have validated items. | Preparing Your Students: | Little or none. Especially in introductory classes, it might be wise not to assume that students know strategies for taking multiple-choice tests. Some......

Why Did I Choose Nursing

...WHY DID I CHOOSE NURSING When I was a little girl I always dreamed of being a nurse. I would watch my mother get ready for work every night. First she would put on her scrubs, then the stethoscope, and then her id for the hospital. She would come home and speak about all of her experiences and adventures. I was inspired. I started helping my mother take care of my grandmother and from then on I knew this was my calling. My mother always said: “Alexandra, you have a nurturing spirit, and you were born to be a nurse” (Danielle Jerome). I went to Camden county college as pre-nursing major and I got to work. College wasn’t as easy as I thought and I began to become discouraged. I switched my major to mathematics education and shortly realized that nursing was the only thing I can dream about. Then I landed in Prism Career Institute for LPN license and I feel right at home. School is not easy for me but I am prepared to buckle down. I’d had a plethora of jobs in my lifetime. My first job when I was 15 was an administrative assistant in a senior day care. I absolutely loved that job. I sat at a desk, greeted guests, answered phone calls, wrote emails, and assisted the manager with anything he needed done. I learned at a very young age how to be professional and mature. After that I went to the restaurant business. I worked at Friday’s, Cracker Barrel, and Bahama Breeze just to name a few. Working in the restaurant business taught me self control, responsibility, and great......

Why Choose an Mba

...MBA: My Bachelor’s Ain’t…enough! Management 521 MBA: My Bachelor’s Ain’t…enough! Pursuing an MBA is simply another way of saying, “My Bachelor’s degree just Ain’t enough!” Obtaining a Bachelor’s degree should be considered an amazing accomplishment. However, many have come to the realization that it is, in fact, inadequate. The status of the current economy is a leading indicator that something beyond a Bachelor’s degree is needed. A potential stepping stone beyond a Bachelor’s degree is an MBA, which opens up a great deal of opportunity compared to a Bachelor’s. Many reasons exist for an MBA to be sought out and why a bachelor’s just “Ain’t enough.” Some of the top reasons to pursue an MBA are that a Bachelor’s degree does not provide the potential to make enough money, give the education to be marketable enough, or give enough prestige to the degree holder. A study in the Journal of Marketing for Higher Education led by Lynn Dailey, MBA, PhD, marketing professor at Capital University, Columbus, OH, showed that career advancement, financial security, and elevated social status/prestige (see Table 1) are within the top 5 reasons to pursue an MBA (Dailey 148). Because of the current trend and these economical times, a Bachelor’s degree is just not enough. Pursuing and obtaining an MBA is an excellent way to make more money in the long run, to make one more marketable, and to give one more prestige than with a bachelor’s degree. One of the top reasons heard most for......
